Devs: A Bounty has Begun on the Cyanogen LG G2X Bluetooth Issue - T-Mobile LG G2x

Cross-posting this from the LG G2X Cyanogen forums.
In case you missed it there is now a bounty on issue 4105 aka "no bluetooth stereo". As of this writing it's over $100 and though that probably won't cover the hours it takes to track down the Bluetooth driver and port it, it will buy a few cases of beer to celebrate.
I'd post a link, but I can't yet because I'm a newb - so you'll have to trust me.

Is this even possible??? Would they have to make a driver from scratch??? If it is possible and legit im down for adding to the pot.

It was my understanding that nVidia needed to release the source code for their drivers to get this to happen? I'm not holding my breath on that happening. I would really like to see the Bluetooth issues worked out though.

..maybe NVidia wants the $100

Anything is possible. It's not easy, and very Time consuming, to reverse engineer drivers.

Lol that's awesome

That is the pretty ****ty thing about NVidia. If they are going to keep their doors closed then at least provide updated drivers frequently.
Maybe when Tegra 3 comes out they'll release Tegra 2.
I've seen so many devs so so many near impossible things here are XDA that I know someone will crack it. I think they are just being lazy now (which is smart) because why waste time and energy if NVidia will release it shortly? But now that we're finding out that it probably won't happen that hopefully they'll start crackin' on it.

I would add to the pot if someone can provide a link

That will be next to impossible. Nvidia is not open source friendy.
I think this will work. If many are doubting, better check out hd2 android...

To write a driver, you need a register set. Apparently that is part of the IP NVidia isn't up-ing, at least not without an NDA. Without a register set, have fun...
So if you signed the NDA, get the register set description (which may come with sample code), wrote a lib, and posted the lib (but not the source code) here, would that violate the NDA?

I would add to the pot as well. I would LOVE to see this happen.

No, that should not violate the NDA. The NDA covers the source code they provide to you to develop your products. The work product is okay to distribute as long as you don't disclose the source code.

I will donate of we find somone that is capable. Maybe we can drag another dev into a g2x as a result as well. Love this phone. Hopefully more will realize its superior smoothness to the crapsation.

Ill trow down $30 on the pot.

I would definitely chip in for the bounty as well if someone could get a2dp/bluetooth to work. I've been pretty disappointed with my g2x and it's because of this.

Makes total sense. I should of thought of that one.
Anyway i'm gonna go ahead and say thanks to the devs and anyone else who is going to contribute.
Anyone know how difficult it would be to port a Captivate Rom to th Infuse? They do have similar hardware.
If I may chime in, the quickest way I've seen to get dev's developing for your phone is to start a multi donation page where you amas funds (some may give 20 bucks each donator, etc) and then buy a couple of the devs the device and ship it to them. This is how the Nook got CM7 as well as many other devices.

Unfortunately my Hernia surgery has caused some slight impedance, but I may try to contact other devs and see whats going on.

please this is not true. assuming thing are easy to port from sgs is not a good way to go. there is a similar processor. and that's about all you can confirm. this phone has more ram, mhl hdmi support, new gps hardware, maybe a new radio, though it may be the same as in sgs4g which in it's self is hard enough to port anything beyond the apks and maybe the rom, new camera, a flash, new screen type, and posibly an new audio chip as some samsungs such as the galaxy player and sgs2 are using yamaha audio componants while the sgs line is wolfson.
you dont see ports to and from captivate to fascinate, or to sgs4g, or to the droid charge and those phones are more similar to the captivate than this is. this may have more in common with the galaxy tab than the captivate.
these are not minor differences but it may be posible to maybe port the framework over and apk's. it may be posible to use the whole rom but not the kernel. ports will be projects and maybe not a great idea other than maybe an aosp gingerbread or icecream sandwhich project.
I just got this phone as well and awaiting some development
Since I don't know Cyanogen, we'd need to talk to someone like "rhcp0112345" or "EugeneKay" to reach out to them....same for MIUI devs.
If we can get more people showing an interest to donate we can get this going.
See the below thread as a successful instance of this, I know it happened also for the captivate with cognition I think.

Ok I guess we've done enough talking i guess I'll start another thread later today to start accumulating a list of those who'd be willing to donate. If the list gets substantial, we'll reach out to the devs.
to be honest id rather it stay small. i would like 3-4 roms more than a couple dozen. and id like there to be better comunication between devs, intermediate users, and newbe's rather than the cluster [email protected] seen in some forums. when there are too many parties involved it gets to a point that lower level users stop learning and advanced users suddenly take on expectations from the comunity. id rather it stay small. we can get help when we need it but most of the stuff in the sgs forums that we wont see are not that significant in my oppinion. i got rid of the captivate and got this because i thought id know enough about it to get it like i want it and not be sucked into the rom frenzy while also being a contributing member of the board. im not saying im against bounties for your favorite devs to come over but id rather put up a bounty for a second phone for the devs that actually wanted to buy this phone.

Vendors don't release proprietary driver source code unless you are covered by an NDA. You aren't going to get it. I got Marvell to give me source code once but under an NDA and it was extremely difficult to do and took a long time. Also, since I was under an NDA it which meant I had the code but could not disclose any of it or give it to anyone else, period. Sorry, but those tweets will just be wasted key presses.
sorry, guys, nagging nvida will get you nowhere!
I'm curious as to why people imagine this might happen? Is there a precedent that h/w vendors for Android platforms have released source for drivers? Or released specs (like register maps) for hardware? Some h/w vendors don't even write drivers for h/w - that's what gives embedded C programmers like me job security (I've been involved in plenty of NDAs like mentioned above).
So what is the "norm" for the Android platform?

It seems that in some alternate reality it is acceptable to assume that "in your spare time" means cancel all of your plans and get used to fluorescent lighting because daylight is just the glare on your computer screen. Either way, I am downloading some 2 gigs of random ICS stuff and finally received my replacement Macbook, so between projects I will try to get something moving on this.

I guess if you didn't see the previous thread, which was more or less a rick-roll youtube video that said it isn't possible to get anything running, then an understandable first reaction is to make rude comments...
But if you read the thread you are responding to, you would have seen that on the Nexus it is a working build, capable of being used as more than just a proof-of-concept. Then again, I don't expect people to read these days because they are too busy writing...

Best leave the developing to the developers and stop back when there is something to load up and complain about
So getting an SDK port working on a Nexus S is the same as getting it to run on the ThunderBolt?
I'm not saying it isn't possible though I highly doubt it will work. I'm saying don't call it the "Real Deal".

This is real ICS development, and not a prank so it is as the title says "ICS Development (Real Deal)"
And no, getting a port working on the Nexus S is not the same as getting it to work on the Thunderbolt, which is why there isn't a file in that first post yet. I think you are assuming that the only thing available is the SDK image, though, when the full system dump is out there also.
My previous statement still stands.. Why don't you go shake down some kids for their script source, and come back when there is something here to test.

You do know downloads, packing, transferring, uploading, etc do run in the background right? I remember back when threads like this rallied up support and assistance instead of whatever you call what you're doing... For the record I am waiting on a data wipe and a lot of stuff is still installing since the computer only came yesterday.
I can just toss up every little edit I test and brick phones all day long, or I can document the process and release when it hits milestones. That way I can catch input along the way and prevent a lot of wasted time.
Just swapped the boot on the posted Nexus build, changed over all the apn info, and added in all the keylayout and hardware files. Going through and finding everything that needs to be swapped for a straight port, then if it runs I will post up the progress.

Thanks. The good news is that I have a shopping list of what has been changed to go from sdk to working port. The bad news is that I also have a project due Thursday that I need to actually spend some time with.
For anyone with the sdk build, make sure before even trying to run it that you replace all the /system/bin files that just say toolbox with real files or set up symlinks for them. Busybox also needs to be added/replaced in /system/xbin
This will get that version to where you can run logcat and see the EGL errors, but it will also be in a condition to start tweaking files to get the touchscreen running.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
I can't waaaaiiiitttt!!
Take as much time as you need! Your life is more important than this.
I am uploading what I have, but not because it is a huge step forward. I fixed all the commands and added the files that should fix the touchscreen, but didn't on this device.
This is still a step forward from the base build we currently have. At least typing a command no longer results in "toolbox" being displayed instead of results. I reverted everything I tested to make sure the only test changes were absolutely necessary to provide a solid base. I will post a link as soon as it is up.

[REQ] G-Tablet Camera Source Code Petition

Current News 11/28/2012
Well Fosser2 and his gang have finally hashed out a GIT with the source for the 3.1 kernel they are compiling. It is to my displeasure that NVIDIA requests are a complete failure, but because of this amazing open source comunity that we have with Android we are still able to bring our devices around to match that of what we desire out of our tablets. Thank you to their valiant efforts in creating a better user environment and we tip our hats to them. Please be sure to give them a thanks and buy them a beer. Here is the GIT
GIT Source from Fosser2
Old Info -
Directly quoted from Fosser2. I have been checking daily to see when the forums would come back up, and it looks like they have. Please get your petitions over there to get the sources so our g-tabs can be 100% functional (Well as close as you can) =]
Hey guys,
I know you all want the camera working but NVIDIA is really holding back on the information that they are releasing. As you know Notion Ink and the developers who have been working with the Adam tablet have really helped this project along. NI is asking people to post in My Post on the NVIDIA Forums to see if we can get the camera source code and information on the interface the camera runs on. Please take the time to read this Post and register and complain in the NVIDIA forums about the camera. Please try to make your posts sound professional, but we're gonna need some support behind this one if we have any hope on getting the camera active again. Even if NI gets the camera sources and we don't, I'm sure that the work that they finish will be able to be ported to our camera with minimal efforts. Thanks for your time!
You can find my topic over here
please register and keep this post on the top. The more traffic we get there the sooner we will hear back from them.
Link
I see a couple of people who have posted and I thank you all for the help, lets try and keep the forum as the top hit list so MODs will see it and hopefully get a response. If they refuse we will threaten with the better business bureau and I am sure they will listen then.
I know its a pain to have to create another user account, but please the more people they see posting on the nvidia forums the higher chance we have of getting the sources released to the public. Imagine the possibility of the device without poking around blindly at the kernel, but having a complete map available.
I just registered and posted. I really hope someone notices how important this is to us.
Cheveron just said in the Dirty Bean forum on Slatedroid that the camera is already fixed.
This is more than just the Camera though. The Devs are poking blindly without source. The fact they got it working is a miracle, we would rather have the hard solid evidence to make sure we get the most out of the devices with the source from Nvidia.
We tried very hard the first time. They just arent willing to help out. With a middle finger in the air I think all devs who have contibuted their time can walk the streets proud of their accomlishments. Thanks for the hardware Nvidia...screw you for the support.
We don't need anything from NVIDIA; apparently dwagner already got the camera working (for the most part). This is what Ch3vr0n5 said over on Slatedroid. So it's coming, just be patient.
In the future you should consider boycotting NVIDIA; go with Qualcomm or Samsung. They are far more receptive to the community than NVIDIA and will have much better longevity than any NVIDIA products. Yes, the Nexus 7 uses a Tegra III but that doesn't mean much since NVIDIA still doesn't share source with the community. Eventually even the Nexus 7 owners will have a G-Tablet like situation on their hands.
Yes we did get the camera working w/ our own set of code. Not sure when its going to be fully available to the public. Hopefully sooner than later though!
You guys are amazing. Does that mean once you work out the kinks in theory the tab should be 100% functioning?

Better on the battery, since wifi doesn't work.

Just a side note installing an ICS KERNEL like hefe will earn you a boot loop, so don't unless you like that sort of thing.

As soon as erik gets the source posted somewhere, it will receive some teamacid luv.
It's funny, because I started looking at a herring port last weekend, and then saw the dev thread erik started and stopped.

Its funny I remember the last time source code was not posted when promised devs got upset and there was a huge dog-pile.
Per the rules here at xda source code should be posted. When can links be expected? .
By posting your work on XDA-Developers, you are agreeing that it complies with relevant licensing conditions. As such, by posting a kernel or other work containing GPL code, you are confirming to us that you have made this source code available publicly under the GPL, and should highlight this in your thread with a link.

It's no secret you have a beef with Erik, but really, going to try and call out "no source link", for an alpha build, when he's said he will get source for everyone to work with. If you are going to be that much of a stickler, then you better go through the ROM thread and find EVERY ROM that doesn't have a source link in the thread.
Seriously, go through every single ROM and post in that thread your little XDA link and quote, because otherwise it's shows your being petty against Erik and you're mad because the mod's keep deleting your posts or closing threads every time you start something. I just looked and saw 10 ROM's without source linked without even looking at Erik's releases, so go report all them too and post your quote.
He is not referring to ROM'S and ports, rather the kernel and CM10. er1kmm is NOT keeping it from people for malicious reasons. To imply otherwise is childish. You don't see ANYONE from TFQ releasing ANYTHING CM10. Please stop asking for ETA's. Grow up and stop whining.
Sent from a hole in the time/space continuum.
Actually this is something that is suppose to be released when the thread is started. So this eta is a valid one. It would be nice to have this code available so other people can look to see if they can fix stuff. I dont care when I beta release is made, I just care to see the source code posted. That is not a unreasonable request. This is a pretty major release and I know others are chomping at the bit to get it to start trying to fix some things.

Maybe, just maybe, there is something going on in er1kmm's personal life. I honestly don't know. Real life comes before XDA. Be yourself, report it, have any and all threads regarding CM10 deleted (including bhundven's which has been proven false, and his is now an "any other thread").
Edit: Not false, just no longer relevant.
I am not defending or going against anyone here, but the reason that I am asking for source is because I feel that once we have source, we will be able to fix a ton of issues. The more devs/helpers, the better.
And I am quite sure, since erik has promised us source, it'll be here soon enough.
