[Q] Any apps to play online games over 3g - General Questions and Answers

I would like to know if there are any apps (rooted or not) that would allow my phone to receive wifi from my mobile A.P. on the same phone. Mobile ap right now disables wifi but was reading about the wifi tether aps and may have the wrong idea about how they work but gave me the idea that could do what i need. I have a Samsung showcase through element mobile in north central WI. Firmware ver. 2.2.1 hardware ver I500.04 model sch-I500 kernel ver 2.6.32.9. I know the connection would most likely be laggy but would just like to see if it is possible. Any ideas please post. If there is nothing out there would make a great challenge for the developers to create

Huh? I guess not. bump

[Q] Hardware required for Android Market access?

I know there are certain requirements such as having a 3G radio and camera that google requires for market access. At least, that's what I've read. My question is how are things like the wifi only Galaxy Tab going to access it? Is it going to be packing a 3G radio, but just not activated sort of like how the FM radio shipped in the nexus but wasnt activated out of the box?
I am exploring this question because NOOKcolor is launching this month and runs a skin on top of android2.1. I'm hoping it gets rooted with cyanogen on it because that would be awesome on a $250 tablet. But the question remains...would it be able to access the market? Can the 'hardware requirements' be bypassed by any means on a rooted device?
TIA
Lots of devices run android and don't have a 3g radio and only wifi. They're mostly mp3 players but they can access the market as far as I've seen. It should be possible for the NOOKcolor to be able to reach the market. I don't know for sure though, I've been wrong before.

interesting
To access Market there is no hardware requirement. You just need a few apks. And internet connection.

[Q] Need help with tethering MyTouch 3G GPS to Gtab?

Hello,
Thanks to all the great folks here on this forum I have modded my Gtab and I am really loving the experience.
I am currently running TnT Lite 2.4 and find it very stable. I did the Market fix that allows most os the apps to show up. Still using the old Market interface which accurately shows my downloaded and purchased apps. I have installed ADWlauncher EX and not looked back.
Since buying my Gtab I have rooted my MyTouch 3g 1.2 and implemented Barnacle to create an ad hoc wifi hotspot that works very well with my Gtab.
I read somewhere here that somebody was able to connect their phone GPS to the Gtab through the use of a combination of shareGPS and BlueGPS. I can't seem to find the shareGPS application anywhere on the Market with my phone or the Gtab. Is this due to the fact that my phone is still an Android 1.6 phone? If possible can someone point me to the sharegps apk file that would work on my phone?

[Resolved] ICS android CGM9 DESIRE S connecting to ad-hoc mode

Original post started in not very good style and I decided to change it to be as usefull information.
this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1438297
worked for me...
cd /system/bin
mount -o rw,remount /system
mv wpa_supplicant wp_supplicant.bac
download wpa_supplicant from the thred above and than
cp /mnt/sdcard/"wherever you have it on sdcard" /system/bin/wpa_supplicant NOT!!! wpa_supplicant2
Is there any point to install and play with cyanogenmod 9 if I'm noob?
I have HTC DESIRE S
I have rooted flashed so far by cgm 7.2 and I don't have problem really.
I know how to use google.
That's why I don't post questions about my device and set up, they are answers sooner, than my question arise. Google and forums are working well for me.
Is there any good to use semifunctional device for benefitial purposes? For example cgm9 for saga, the last nightly build, wifi is not working. If I'm noob?
How to report? Does it help really? It's not about complaining... I'm happy with stable releases and google. I'm not looking for learning coding. I "use" and if bug I do google search... Seems like cgm9 where functionality changes from build to build, there is no point to complain... of course... So does help to say if something doesn't work and where to do it? is there place to do that?
Do I have to make 9 other questions like this to tell that cyanogenmod 9 last nightly build for desire s has nonfunctional wifi? To be able to report it in developers threads? Is that helpful information? Can be noob helpful?
EDIT: wifi is not malfunctional, the etntire trouble is ICS android not being supported for connecting to ad-hoc acces points(hotspots). Infrastructure mode apparently available for set up under windows 7 (not xp) should let you use your computer as hotspot for ICS androids

I don't have this device, but if it doesn't work, CM knows about it. Are you sure it doesn't require a different kernel for wifi to work? Did you read the entire thread? I know sometimes in forums it says not to ask about certain things... Nightlies aren't a finished product. They are tests builds. Some better than others... I myself LOVE CM9 Nightlies!! If it's not what you want, just flash another rom.

For those of you who may have tried to connect your recently updated ICS Transformer Prime to your cell phone using the wifi tether app, you may have noticed that your tablet would not pick of the signal from your phone. We are running an ATT Samsung Galaxy SII here and had wifi tether 3.1 beta 6 installed from a few months back. Before upgrading to ICS on our Prime, we had successfully tethered Honeycomb 3.2.1 to the phone without a problem at all. After the upgrade to ICS we wanted to test some of the wireless connectivity issues and decided to tether to our phone once again to get Speedtest results and noticed that we couldn’t see the phone’s hotspot.
In launching the trusty wifi analyzer app, we noticed that the tablet was “seeing” the hotspot in the wifi analyzer app, however, there was a little red designation at the end of the hotspot information denoting “ad hoc” and we were not able to connect or even given the option to connect to the hotspot. In doing some reading on this and finding that in other forums there were many other users saying that after upgrading to ICS they were no longer able to connect to their hotspot, we assumed this was definitely something with ICS. Officially, Google does not support ad hoc networks in ICS apparently.
However, the upside to all of this is that if you upgrade your wifi tether app to the latest and greatest, which in our case was 3.1 beta 11, we were able to select the option in the wifi profile to be the infrastructure mode as opposed to ad hoc mode for our Samsung Galaxy SII. After performing the update, and changing the profile to infrastructure, we were once again able to connect our ICS Prime to the wifi tether app.
It is yet to be seen if this is functionality Google is simply not support from this point forward or if this is just an early ICS quirk that will be resolved with a later update.
maby this is the issue
Finnaly this can be solved by having windows vista in infrastructure mode... Windows xp haven't been build to provide such stacks.

[Q] Photon Q Wifi LEAP question

Hi, newbie here.
i have been reading for a while on this forum, i was using Nokia E7 for my work purposes, and interested to know if photon Q can replace it. i like QWERTY device anyway. as photon Q looks attractive for me so finally I got one.
i am interesting if i can connect photon Q to 802.1x with LEAP.
i try to play with stock wifi setting, no LEAP option there, i try to play with LEAP Wifi free (can be downloaded in google play), Wifi advanced configuration editor, wifi connection manager, try all possible setting but still can't connect to my company network.
other status :
SW version 77.8.14
android version 4.0.4
build number = 7.7.1Q-6_SPR-125_ASA-14
i was wondering if i need to root/unlock bootloader to have LEAP connected (so i can edit something/files).
any idea or any help? thank you !
Never used this type of wifi, but maybe this post will help?

thanks, but i have tried that and not working.
I assume a lot of university & company still using Cisco LEAP Authentication.
once we find a way, photon q can be the perfect phone for businessman & student.
I use "LEAP WiFi Free" from the market (Play Store) and it works perfect with LEAP authentication at my workplace.

[APP][2.3+][Update 17/09/13][Free/Pro]Free Tethering Unlocker

Free Tethering Unlocker
Unlock your tethering possibilities!
With this simple app you can, finally, use your Mobile Data plan, to surf with your notebook or any device you want, without having to pay any extra to your network operator!
As you can see here, since Android 4.1.2, Google introduced a new tethering function to "mark" tethering packets, so the operator can bill the user for that traffic separately from the traffic generated locally by the phone. May be useful even with Android 2.3+, when tethering problems occurs.
This app makes a simple trick to the routing table, to permit tethering traffic to proceed to the mobile network without any modification :victory:
PLUS, on the premium version, there is an on boot unlock function that will patch the routing table at every reboot, automatically. This way you can forget about the existence of this app and freely enable tethering when you need.
Features:
Automatic interfaces detection
Boot time patching (Premium only)
Wi-Fi and USB tethering mode supported
Tested operators:
The application works properly on all Android devices 2.1 +, but was tested on the following devices:
Vodafone IT
Changelog:
-----1.0.8------
Fixed interface detection bug, multiple interfaces support (LTE Galaxy S4)
New configurations added: T-Mobile
Translations fixed.
Known Issues:
If you use "superuser" on some ROMs you cannot get root privileges. To solve this, download "SuperSU".
Very Important:
In the app menu, there is a link to report your current operator configuration, this way if your actual configuration is not supported (the application wont work) I can see what is happening and can fix the app for your configuration.
This help me a lot, so, please, do it if the app don't work for you. Thanks.
Download:
Download the application from the market here
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.kernelxp.freetether
Screenshots :
Remember, if you like this application, rate and review it! Thanks!
Let me know which phone and which operator you use, to complete the compatibility list, thanks.

Thank you sir..
Noob Attack!
Uhm, sir, noob question from a noob person...
Does this app ,of yours, works like those WiFi Tethering apps like Barnacle WiFi / OpenGarden...?
And if it so, how does this differ from those apps?
And if it isn't so, does my phone required to have WiFi Tethering and Hotspot support to use this?
This app only patches original mobile WiFi hotspot (tethering) Android application.
This way you can use what tethering application included in Android distribution, there is no need of external applications like opengarden.
BTW I think, but not assure, that my app will unlock third party tethering application too, so you can use whatever tethering application you want and test if with my patch the tethering starts working.
If you do that, please, report the result here, so I can add compatibility.
Thanks.

This is exactly what we need thanks for your contribution.
Brilliant!
Does it also spoofs my mac address?

Android stock mobile WiFi hotspot uses NAT, so...yes, your operator sees only your phone's MAC address.

By the way, can you guys who successfully use this app tell me which is your phone model and your operator, to compile a compatibility list, for all users?
Thanks!
Im using SGH-T999. By the way how do we know if the app is actually working?

This is simple, you have only to unlock tethering with this app, then try to surf with your PC, through the mobile WiFi network created by the phone. If you can see something and you have not paid anything for that....it works.
I suggest to call your operator and ask for disabling the tethering profile. This way (the one I've done) if you can surf the web from your PC, you're sure not to pay. In case the app is not working gor you, and you're using the standard tethering APN (and your operator will charge for that), the connection will be interrupted and you will be not charged for anything.
Let me know, bye!
BTW, today I'll publish an update with new configuration. Stay tuned!

Nexus6, VZW (unlimited plan), does not work. Checks for subscription, then says "Your order could not be processed", and fails.
*Edit:
Developer corrected the issues, this appears to be working on N6 in lastest version!
THANK YOU!!!

Worked first time!
PHONE: INFOCUS M512 (Foxconn)
OS: 4.4.2 (root), MIUI
OPERATOR: FIDO/ROGERS (Canada)
4G/LTE
I had NO working tether on this phone since purchase 2 weeks ago (tether was working on retired Apple 3GS - same 1 GB data plan). I probably could have gotten it working on the new Android with a call to FIDO tech support, but I remember when i bought the new SIM card, the sales guy at the mall kiosk warned me that FIDO calculates their tethering data a "little differently" than phone data, and that I might notice higher-than-expected usage totals on my statement...
I think not.
Hello!!
Nice to see that you like my work, as soon as possible I want to create a compatibility document, to be published here and in Google Play Store, so you guys can directly know whether this hack will work for you or not.
I'm currently working on an update but my job does not leave me much time so...might take a while to be ready, I'm sorry.
Bye and merry Christmas!

Anything new with this app?
Hi!
I'm currently working on a brand new application, with Material Design graphics.
Also the engine is updated, hopefully supporting more unlocking techniques.
Unfortunately my job does not help me in this; I've very small amount of time to write this app, therefore I cannot give you an estimation about when I'll be able to release it. Sorry.
Regards,
Marco.

Hi Marco & thanks for your app.
I've had it on my phone for a while, and it has been working fine, however due to the ever increasing load on my ram & cpu from all the apps & google service updates, I have had to prevent a bunch of system processes & apps from running.
This has stopped your app from working.
Can you please list the system apps/processes that your tether unlocker app needs access to or need to be running so I can enable just the necessary ones thanks?
