<oh ****! The last thing I want in my life right now is a pissed off clown after me. thought I was posting in the question forum. Looks like I put it in general. Please forgive me Mr. Clown, Sir>
Hey guys,
I finally pulled my nuts out of my gut and tried to flash gingerbread onto my Galaxy 4G and I just wanted to show you the versions of stuff it is listing to see if I did this right.
Here is what my phone says in the "about phone" area:
Firmware: 2.3.4
Baseband version: T959VUVKD1
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-T959VUVKG4-CL385158
Build number: GINGERBREAD.VUVKG4
I had to reformat the SC card on the computer or it wouldn't mount but after I did that I am in business and the phone seems to work like a champ and is smooth as butter.
Everything is gingerbread but the modem. You seem to still have the froyo one there. Gingerbread is smoother with better battery life. My personal opinion would have been to go with kh2 instead of kg4 though.

Hmm I wonder what step I am missing that I still have the froyo modem.
I will see if can change to kh2. I am not the best at this stuff and the bazillion threads on this confuses the hell out of me. Thanks for the reply!
Look into fbis' GB starter pack. It will help you flash the ROM properly. For a ROM, I am a fan of audiophile, but Valhalla is a great choice too
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
I tried to odin kh2 but it gave me the "Firmware update encountered an issue..bla bla bla" screen. That screen seems to be a alternate download screen and I was able to odin back to what I had from that screen.
Did I need a kh2 bootloader?
it's okay to use a froyo modem with GB. I'm actually still using the KD1 modem with Gingerbread because it gets better reception in my condo than the GB modems to.

This is NOT a full ROM, only the modem. It will not mess with your current ROM/data.
Here is the KH1 modem from Krylon's ROM leak. It is available in Odin and CWM flashable packages depending on your preference. Attached to this thread is Odin version 1.85, to my knowledge the latest version (at least the version I use).
I am not responsible if you brick/break/blow up your phone.
Odin Package: Here
CWM Package: Here
If you are unsure how to use Odin to flash the modem see this thread. If you are unsure how to use CWM to flash the modem, then please stop now and go watch some T.V., leave your phone alone.
Thanks for CWM version. Updated my Dr honk powered Kg4 rom with this modem.
So does this modem help with the weak wifi signal on KG4?
were is the modem at?
were is the link for the modem so i can test it out.
I just flashed the CWM version on Audiophile Bump in the trunk with no problems.
KB5 Has worked the best for me in Boston. I'm going to give this a good checking out.
Thank you for this.
Just Odin`d and... instant results. Thanks guys!!!

I think there is a bug with this modem. When I go to contacts, display option I get initializing sim message forever...
Stock kg6 + drhonk's kg4 kernel + kh1 modem

I'm on Audiophile Bump in the Trunk using the KH1 Modem and the display option in contacts is working properly for me.
ok then must be a problem with my kg6 or kernel, so I'm going to upgrade to whitehawx deodexed kh1
I just flashed to KH1 from KG4 so I shouldn't need this right? I haven't noticed an increase in WIFI performance btw...

You can check what modem you have installed by going to settings > about phone and looking at baseband version. Should say "KH1" toward the end if you just flashed the KH1 ROM.
Says KH1, All is well.
I flashed the CWM version yesterday.
I'm running Audiophile Bump in the Trunk.
A couple hours ago I went into our market app to browse and while there the MARKET automatically updated on my phone.
I believe it recognized my phone as a gingerbread phone because I ended up with a high definition (tv like) market app with a new icon. It looked and functioned GREAT...I want it!
But my phone got laggy and just a little buggy. My quadrant went from mid 1600's to mid 900's so I just uninstalled the updates and my phone is behaving normally. It has the mid 1600 quadrant again.
However now gmail tries to update and I'm getting "Package file was not singed correctly"
I have my froyo gmail and all is well. I'm not sure if the update is for gingerbread and I'm on froyo so it won't update or if I'm not receiving a froyo update.
Has this happened to anyone?
My market upgraded itself too. I'm using kg6+ kh1 modem and kg4 kernel.. Not sure about lag or scores..

hows the kh1 modem with kg6? any difference?
I got this KH1 modem on my Samsung Infuse 4G and the battery life just amazing. I think I also posted it on samsung infuse 4G section. Once I fully charged the phone after 4 hours it still have 100%.
My friend has the HTC Sensation 4G, do you know if this KH1 will work on HTC phones? He has bad battery life also.

Highly doubt it would work on any brand of phone that isn't Samsung, would probably cause all kinds of problems. Wouldn't advise you try it.

so do these builds like KH1, KH2 and so on, do the number increase or decrease with each new build? Because I have KH2 as my modem. I'm running Audiophile FTW

kh1 < kh2
So everyone is excited about KH1 I see, well.
I now have a fully functional deodexed KH1 breed. And now, why not make it look AOSP. As maker of GBTHEME, I am trying to integrate as much GB as possible into this rom. Also it will be there tonight or tomorrow.
Problems right now, Settings has an issue.
Screenshots up after i fix settings issue

I am not sure about the desex mods yet, but the system treats it like a stock touchwiz rom, so yes, full voodoo kg4 kernel support.
UPDATE: I AM ONE STEP CLOSER TO RELEASE, I FINALLY GOT OVERSCROLL WORKING
can you release a stock deodexed KH1?

That is nice, but I am making sure this is a no wipe version, so Anyone with KH1 Installed will have no problem with loss of data and etc....etc...
Hey have any of you guys noticed that on the keyboard after "A" and "S", it is "D""F""G""H", just like KD1, KF1, KF2, KG4, KG6, KH1!!!!
Maybe L will be finall version

there's an explanation why they have these codes. i know for a fact that K = 2011 and the letters after that signifies the month. so H = August. I guess the number is the build number.

Yeah, that's correct. I remembered reading about that on the Vibrant forum. Mind-blowing stuff, lol. The number is the revision though.
KG6, for example, means out was built in July 2011, sixth revision.
patiently awaiting release thanks airfluip for the work put in. Can't wait to test this out

I you are referring to me, why? I just wan't to know.
Is it possible for you to make an Odin version of this rom? It would really save a lot of steps in installing. Right now I can't get the gb bootloaders off the phone and trying to load ICBINB on top of a stock odin results in the phone hanging at bootup. The only way to get CWM on gb is by way of dr. honk's KG4 kernel odined on top of a gb install.
You must have the dr. honk kernel. Then you flash using recovery, then you can reflash the khi kernel.
I'm sorry, I looked inside an odin tar and it must be a bit more difficult to compile those four or five big installation files. A CWM file is easier to mix and match as I found out just now by following the suggestion and sticking the zimage from dr. honk's kernel in whitehawk's deodexed KH1. I thought for sure the phone would freeze but it didnt! That explains the preference for CWM. Maybe I can get a stable gb with CWM on there after all.

You can mix and match using Heimdall. I'm thinking of switching to that instead of using Odin... It's been more reliable in some testing I've done recently, plus it works on other OSes besides Windows.
If you want to flash back to Froyo bootloaders, try this release:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1129933
Raver added the bootloaders to it so you can install other Froyo ROMs afterward.
I'm new too the Androids got my frist SGS-4G like a few days ago and its going great but the bat life is meh drains soo fast so was looking around sites for new FW updates nothing so i found out you can flash GB too it Wich i did im on GB 2.3.3 and found out that there is a problem with the wifi and a few things now im trying too flash cyanogenmod 7.1 too it because people say its GB 2.3.4 so now what im looking for is the files and a step by step on how too install so far i have Odin3 v1.85.

Well welcome to sgs4g, the wifi is a issue on all GB releases at the current.
A for cm7... Not available at the moment though there are developers working on it.
Word to the wise, and not so wise, do NOT flash anything not specifically make for this phone.
Most of the newer roms are based on gb... So once you settle on the custom rom of your liken and calibrate your battery you'll notice improved battery life, just keep in kind it will take a couple of days for the battery to settle in after you install the rom.
Hope this helps.

Browse around the Android Development thread. I would strongly suggest to start reading the guides like "converting ext4 on gingerbread" by dsexton or the "ext4 starter pack" because those will help you get started and they are VERY important. Follow those directions carefully and read up on the troubleshooting and you'll flash the ROMs with no hassle.
As for the ROMs, there are quite a few on 2.3.4. The latest ones are ICBINB variants (KG4, KH1, KH2, etc) by Team Acid, Audiophile by Raver, and the most recent one, Valhalla by Whitehawkx.
Ah im not big on the roms still a noob at that just trying too get the normal GB 2.3.4 and later work on doing custom roms.
ok i found GB 2.3.4 but now i cant go in too download mode
I had trouble with this at first. They changed the sequence. Unplug the cable. Hold down volume up and volume down, and while holding them down plug in the cable. That will trigger dowload mode.

Alright, so I've always been a bit confused about this whole phone modding thing and I usually just follow the instructions on the given ROM I want. I forgot what ROM and process I did a few months ago but since then, it has been slowing down and freezing alot lately so I'm looking to update it once again. Is there something I should do to my phone before I go from my current custom rom to another custom rom? I was also wondering what is an overall good rom/kernal that you would recommend, I've heard good thing about Valhalla v1.3.2 but it seems that KJ1 just came out and is much better.
Phone specs:
Samsung Galaxy S 4g (Bought it the day it came out)
Model Number: SGH-T959V
Firmware Version: 2.3.3
Baseband Version: T959VUVKF2
Kernal Version: 2.6.35.7-T959VUVKF2-CL277147
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.VUVKF2
Not sure if it matters but all my phone info is above.

After you get Valhalla up and running you can get the KJ1 kenrel here:

and the KJ1 modem here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1293218
Both of which flash via CWM
To the OP, get rid of kf2 as soon as you can!!! that's the worst GB ROM ever. Battery drains really fast.
Any ROM would be good for you, you should however get valhalla 1.3.2 (wiping all your /data) and set it up to get ready for next valhalla update, which should be out soon, and flashing it won't mess up with your installed apps.
I think you should install kg4 first via Odin, just to be sure you get proper GB bootloaders and avoid bootloops later.
Good luck
Sent from my SGS4G using xda forum app
GET RID OF KF2. KF2 has a potential to brick your phone. It has a different way of getting into Download mode and has no recovery. Press volume up and power only to get into download mode. Flash KG4 to get right bootloaders.
Flash KJ1.

Thank you so much everyone, went alot more smoothly than before lol.
a while back i flashed Trigger to my phone using odin. Ive been using trigger since and its becoming buggy so i was looking into new ROMs but i was unsure of something. My baseband build is KD1, so does that mean i can only use KD1 builds or what :| Sorry if this facepalm worthy but its been a while since i did any of this. Im also looking for recommendations on what ROM to use next and if there is anything special i need to do when switching ROMs.
Thanks
You can flash any rom but if you flash a gingerbread rom you will need to have the correct bootloaders. Fbis251 has an excellent starter pack that you should check out. Valhalla is the only gb rom I liked. It is good others are equally as good.
