3g and wifi - EVO Shift 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i recently downgraded my evo shift from 2.3.3 to 2.2 and booted the cyanogenmod 7 rom to it. everything worked pretty well so i installed a bunch of root apps. I installed juice defender and as of yesterday the wifi and 3g havent been quite working to par. the wifi always has a weak signal and the 3g barley works. it mostly stays on 1x and if it happens to go to 3g it is a weak 3g signal. i have tried restarting my phone and would try a radio update but my bootloader for some reason doesnt even recognize any img files i put on the sd card (i used ruu to flash the downgrade). any help would be appriciated

Well first, get rid of juice defender.. Unless you never use your phone, your draining more battery. Also I've had experience with it causing an issue with my data. Second, the lack of signal tends to be something that happens on AOSP and the crappy sprint network. Uninstall juice defender, clean up your dalvik cache and see how things work. Also install the V8 kernel of kernel manager

ok thanks i will uninstall juice defender. how to i clean my cashe though?
Edit: ok...so i updated to v8 and now my phone is stuck on the HTC logo........
edit x2: ok so restored using clockwork.... still having trouble though

Dalvik cache is cleared in recovery under advanced. As far as getting stuck on the HTC logo, try booting back into recovery, wipe dalvik and cache, then flash the kernel again. If it still won't boot then wipe Dalvik/cache and flash a different kernel.. Or reflash CM7 over what you already have.

To Boot into Recovery. Power down ( shut off ) the phone, hold the volume button down, and then press the power button. Let it do it's thing. Then with the volume button move the highlighted section till it's on Recovery. Press the power button. Again using the volume btton move the highlighted secion till it's on Clear Cache. Press the power button. Do the same thing again on the next menu. Let it do it's thing. When it says done the highlighted section should be on reboot. Press the power button and reboot.
EDIT: oh well to late.

ok i flashed the cm7 kernal and cleared the cashe. still nothing. my signal still goes in and out. data is still not working. could i need a radio update? i have android version 2.3.3 with baseband 1.07.00.1129

Did you do a FULL wipe when you first flashed the ROM? Wipe dalvik/cache/Data??
Also couldn't hurt to update your radio..

Format your SD card to fat32, that should help with the img not being recognized. Formatting clears your SD card so make a backup first.
Usually when you flash a fresh ROM it's best to wipe a few times to make sure everything is cleared out. Not sure if that is the issue her or not.

I think my phone is bricked....

Well, I was at cyanogen 4.0.4, and I wiped it again to reinstall the same rom because it was a issue due to the browser which kept force closing.
After doing so, My phone stays on the green screen. I can get on the bootloader and stuff, I tried wiping it again and It won't work...
I have no idea whats happening.
It's on the green mytouch screen for a while.

FIXED.
Take the SD card out ,
put it in the SD Card Reader,
download a new rom or the same (whatever you feel comfortable)
WIPE 3 times just to be safe,
then install rom
(Takes at least 2 mins to go through)

DONT PANIC!!! .... Take a deep breath and count to 10
How long is a while?
Some take up to 2min for it to boot, as long as you can get into Recovery your ok, might be a bad download.
Try a older ROM that you know is good.
It's been like 15 mins....
I wiped it , so it doesn't install annything and its taking long..
IF you can get into bootloader and recovery you are not bricked.
Reinstall the ROM.

Pull the battery and put it back in again, hold volume down and power, go into recovery and wipe the cache, reboot and you'll be fine.
i would love to do dat bro,but u got to unmount the card to take the cover off, andddd da only way to do dat is to get to the menu and unmount it.ive seen somethin like that in recovery i think, but wut should i do now?
I have no idea what you are talking about, pull the battery out of the phone to turn it off, and go into ClockworkMod recovry and clear the cache, that will fix your problem.
what im talking about is,to take the cover off,u need to unmount the card 1st,but the only way to do that is in the settings.itz da only way i can get to the battery.
Just do it without unmounting, just pull it all out or off. Back cover, SD card, battery, whatever. Otherwise you're never going to get it out of a bootloop.
The only way you dont want to pull your sd out is when your running a2sd. In you case I think it fine to take it out. When the phones off the sd card is not in use so I guess you could say it isnt mounted so just take it out and do what Kalavere said.

[Q] HTC inspire 4G stuck in boot loop! please help!!!

ok so my friend gave me his HTC inspire ( he got a new phone ) so he went to settings>storage>factory reset. so after it did the deleting it rebooted, it went to a white HTC screen the to a black screen and it said android int he middle, it it stayed there forever!!!!!!!!!! i dont know what else to do?? he told me that he had rooted the phone and then when the gingerbread update came out he updated the phone without unrooting it. ive tried removing the battery and putting it back in, ive gone to recovery and factory reset it, deleted the cache and data, but it does the same thing! ive tooken out the sd card but it does the same thing please help!
Thanks for joining us hear at xda. I would get familiar with the search button on this site. It will come in handy.
Your not the first nor last to have their phone stuck in boot loop. We could all explain how to fix this problem. But you would have no idea what we are talking about if you don't do some research.
So start with searching "stuck in bootloop HTC inspire4g or HTC desire HD" and do some reading. Get familiar with the lingo and ask your questions on one of the 8 topic posts already covering this issue.

1)yes.
2)yes its volume down and power
3)we use it interchangeably
4) you'll see on top pvt ship off, though if it was rooted chances are he didn't put it back son.
So boot into hboot(power and volume down) select recovery. Once in recovery full wipe and reflash a rom.

nice! so once in recovery, how do i full wipe? and i need a rom to flash because i delted everything in his SD card, cause i thought that was the problem
Download a rom from the inspire4g android development forum to your computer. Hook up phone with micro USB to computer put downloaded file on sd card of your phone. (I personally use cyanogen7.1 dhd but there are tons in that section of the forum.)
Once you do that you will be able to upload the Rom in bootloader from your sd card.

To do a full factory wipe you can either chose factory wipe. Or choose wipe cache, then scroll down to advanced and chose to wipe delvic seperatly. Once wiped you can proceed to add new rom as I stated above.
Sent from Soundwave aboard Nemesis.
If you still have issues or need a full walkthough. Read here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20382889. Just remember if you choose to use stock roms you should use the roms for the 4g not the dhd

But to do a full wipe u have to do factory reset AND wipe cache partition & dalvik cache. It's not an either/or deal.

Can you go into hboot by turning phone on hloding volume down and power button at same time if so see if at top it says s-off.
If yes and its s-off place this zip in root of sd card may need sd adapter to move zip to card go to hboot by powering up with volume down and power button method. Phone will recognize zip volume up for yes and let it do its thing. When done will ask to hit power button to reboot vloume up for yes. Done ATT rooted stock gingerbread rom and radio installed.
Then visit any rom page you want to try and follow their instructions on flashing rom.
PS: I dont mess with radios and kernels no matter what the rom recommends but thats just me.

Think I may be bricked...

Hi guys,
firstly, I KNOW this is pretty much the most frequently asked question on here (apart from the old ICS Camera one) but I really could do with some help.
My signal has always been abysmal, and 3g/data connections never stayed connected. So after much research and deliberation, I decided to install a new Radio.
And now I can't get past the HTC logo, nor enter recovery.
I used the method in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1186401
and the radio I flashed was 20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.08.04. Everything was fine in HBOOT, and it seemed to be successful. But now I can't access it - holding down Vol- and Power just resets the device.
I'm sat here waiting for the power to die, though I don't know what I'll do then! I'd really appreciate any advice, I know it gets asked all the time, but there we are...
I had the same problem but managed to solve it by getting into recovery. Does the three key reboot work? If it does, wait for the phone to go off and pull the battery before it comes on again. Then volume down + power. See if it works
Sent from my HTC Desire S
Three Key reboot worked, I did what you said and am in Recovery! had to format cache to get out of safe mode. What should I do now, Reboot or go back to a Nandroid backup?
Owe you bigtime already!

You can try to wipe dalvik as well and flash your rom without wiping anything else.
Reboot afterwards.
The bootloop could be related to a incompatible ril.
If it doesn't help, go back to recovery and make the nand restore.

[Q] Wifi will not connect. Stucking in off mode

Hi, last night my wifi seemed to cut off while using my tablet. I tried to cut it back on and it got stuck in the "trying to connect to wifi" stage. I cant press the button and it wont turn back on. I was running Chromi X 4.6.6 at the time. Today, I flashed 4.6.8, hoping it would reset and fix the problem, but the problem still is there. I am really nervous I broke my wifi chip or something. Here is a screenshot of what is happening. I hope someone can help me.
Thank you.

Just do a factory wipe. As long as you don't do a full data wipe you will keep your nandroids if they are on internal.

**** me. Restored back to 4.6.4. Wifi is still broken. Gets to the the "Turning Wi-Fi- on..." screen and never turns on. I am freaking out.
Do you think doing this will work? And if so, how do I start a terminal session?
I've had the Bluetooth not turning on issue four times on my TF101 - the first two times a hard reset (no data loss) fixed it - have you tried this, as opposed to a restart? - and the next two times I just waited and eventually BT turned on. I've never encountered this with WiFI (yet).
In case anyone else encounters this, on a rooted tablet the following might also help:
Open a terminal session and -
su - <enter>
cd /system/bin <enter>
stop bluetoothd <enter>
start bluetoothd -n <enter>
This will force stop and then restart the Bluetooth daemon. I haven't yet worked out (mainly because I haven't need to) what the equivlent process is for WiFi.

I got that problem before. I believed that this was what I did if you want to try it out:

2. Restart your system
3. Shut it off again
4. Go to recovery and select the Android for a cold boot
5. Restart it again and it work for me
I don't know why I had to go through that sequences but I seem to work for me, good luck.

Hehe, I have been there so many times before. You can use the volume up to select and volume down to confirm. Any way, did you tweak your device before the problem? Did you use D2SD? Maybe you explain a little more details what you did so that people have better understanding of your problem. The worse case is you have to flash the rom again .

OK. I was running Chromi-X 4.6.6 ODEX at the time it happened. I used to use a micro sd card but it was acting weird and I took it out. I have been using only the internal SD for the last ~3 months. 1. Boot back into twrp and select wipe, use format option instead of wipe
2. Install cromi x, prefer 3.6.5

4. Make sure that you must SHUT IT OFF COMPLETELY for a few seconds and turn it back on
Hope it will solve your problem, good luck.
