2.3.4??? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Why are all the decent current roms still 2.3.4 based.. i really wanna go EXT4 but all i can seem to find are 2.3.4 kernals with the lagfix option.. i have a nexus s 4g and im currently stock with custom kernal.. but no EXT support.. are there any steps i should take before downgrading to 2.3.4?

The only difference is the 2.3.5 kernels included some fixes for the ns4g.

Some wifi drivers got updated afaik

What's the advantage to going ext4? Or partitioning in general?

This phone is ext 4 native. don't stress on a lag fix flash a 235 ROM with some system tweaks to speed up. Get a stable 1.4 gig kernel and oc to 1.2

What Am I Doing Wrong? (Overclocking Question)

Well, on my Inspire I have flashed a custom rom that gives me up to a 1400 score on my Quadcore tests, yet I see other people hitting 2000-2500, what am I doing wrong? I'm using Core Droid v5.0 with a flashed radio that speeds up my download and upload speeds. Do you guys have any advice on how to speed up my Android?
And by the way, yes I do have set CPU and I have the settings on Max (1024000) and on Minimum (245761) I also have set on boot ticked along with profiles to save battery life. Any help is appreciated.
Sincerely,
RootTheNoob
Are you running a kernael that can be overclocked?
How can I tell of it can be overlooked, and I'm pretty sure I am its the default core Droid Rom, or do I have to install the kernel separately as well?

The default CoreDroid kernel isn't overclocked. Also if you have an overlooked kernel, setcpu would let you push past 1ghz.

I think you can use the leedroid kernel with coredroid can't you? If so, I'm using that one. It will overclock to 1.8. I only run at 1.2 though.
see post 957:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12123867&highlight=leedroid#post12123867
So what do I set it to to overclock it?
First you have to floash the kernel. The you use the slider in set cpu to overclock.
How do I flash it?
Sounds like you have some reading to do. Download the kernel to the root of your SD card. Then from ROM manager use CWM to flash rom from SD Card. DO A BACK UP FIRST THOUGH. Read the first few leedroid posts and that will help
No, I know how to flash things but what kernel do I use?
What kernel do I use with Core Droid?
http://leedroid.ftp.rshost.eu/DHD-Kernels/
it is the 2.2.9. Check his post here and it will tell you what you are getting
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991848
Try the Inversely ROM...sure its stock based but the kernel can be oc'd to 1.8.... at 1.5 I got over 2600 and at 1.8 I got a 3309 and could do better sub some tweaking...right now though kernel is not a separate flash package.

Um..should be Ingersoll ROM.
Autocorrect fail....
What also helps is be fully charged...do your quad right after fresh boot and stop/shutdown all background processes you can..that's when you get best score.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
Edit: hey he just posted his kernel ad a separate package...will make things interesting.
Guys, none of those kernels worked , I had to restore my Android to a previous backup.
Anything I can do?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Coredroid 5 is based off the the leaked GB rom no custom OC kernels are available. 1500 is about what I get with that rom also. If you want higher quadrant scores you need a froyo 2.2 based rom and kernel.

You'll prolly have to download a Rom with an oc kernel and wipe everything before you install it.
May not be what you want to do...but might be the only way to get what speeds you're wanting.
Otherwise...you'll have to wait till there's an oc kernel for the Rom your using.
yelp there isnt Oc of the core with gingerbread.. they do a 2.2 with oc. i havent done those yet cause i do like this gingerbread.. Im just going to keep with this V5.0 MIUI guys have the OC kernal for their gingerbread but they have more steps than i wanna deal with.

whats the best combo

whats the best combo for rom and kernal for the g2x.
im about to install the eagleblood 2.3.3bg (since it has the stock camera) and was looking for a kernal so i could oc it. thanks for the help
also whats best 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 or 2.3.5????
For the most part, rom choice is going to come down to personal preference. As for kernels, faux's is pretty popular. Personally, I'm running eagleblood 2.3.3 and stock kernel.

I am running Triggers 2.3.5 with Fauxs 0.3.5-sv OC to 1.4Ghz and it is awesome. No reboots or issues at all.
There is no kernel made for the ota (2.3.3) roms only 2.2.2 froyo, 2.3.5 cm, eb2.3.5 so basically any rom that is based off the new 2.3.3 ota will not have a oc kernel for it yet LG didn't release source, and best rom kernel combo is definitely cm, and fauxs latest or morfics it a toss up, but honestly the newest nightly runs so nice u wont need one and it has voodoo built in and boot up time is super quick, idk IMO oc kernels are not needed with this phone it is already sick quick I get 3100 quadrant with cm stock kernel, now if u want to save battery life grab a UV kernel
blondie or brunette?? LOL its all up to ur taste for roms and kernels! Im having a great time using the rom and kernel on my sig! But all depends on you and your phone... (some phones dont like oc/uv), the only way to know is to flash, flash flash and flash (watch out not to become a flashaholic...)
Any rooted 2.3.3 ROM, with the Stock Kernel, and LG Camera App.

want to root and overclock my ns4g without a ROM

I want to root and overclock my ns4g but I don't want a ROM is this possible? I'm running 2.3.5 and I just came from a epic 4g, what is the safest kernel and speed? Thank you.
What do you mean you don't want a ROM?
You are running a stock ROM lol. However, you can continue to run it and flash kernels without using a custom ROM

you dont need setcpu to run some kernels on stock rooted
Yeah I meant non custom, ok just wanted to make sure because on my old epic you had to be careful about what kernel you used some for ext4 and some rfs, anyone recommend a fast kernel for a stock ROM?

About custom kernels

I am a complete noob and I am so confused. I want to install the matr1x kernel. Do I have to have a custom rom? I don't really want a custom from. HELP

Are you unlocked and rooted with clockwork mod? You'll need to be first.
Flashed matrix kernel over stock ics myself a while back and worked fine. Just wipe dalvik cache in recovery first though.
Sent from me to you via the tinternet thingamebob.
I have done that.
Will I lose any data. Btw. Which version? Cfs or bfs.
What kernel do you recommend.

You shouldn't lose any data. CFS is aimed at multi-tasking, and BFS is more aimed at single-tasking, games, etc. CFS is everday normal use. If you do heavy gaming or other heavy single process stuff then go for BFS.
I hope this clarifies it some for you.
Matrix kernel is fine.
Also make sure you are flashing the correct Kernel for either GB or ICS. 11.5 I think is the latest for GB and 17.5 for ICS.
Successful

overclock cm9

So i just installed cm9, and my phone can only go to 1188mhz so how do i over clock because i know the sensation can go to 1.6
Install system tuner and try to raise the value. If not, install a kernel compatible with cm9 and u should be good.
On some of the early nightlies I was able to use faux123's 005b3 asop kernel and overclocked to 1.78. I only used it on a couple of the early nightlies. I tried flashing it a few days ago and got bootloops. I think that was on nightly 01, maybe 30.
Stock kernel works fine for me. Overclock will probably be available sometime down the road. Someone on cm9 dev thread is running faux's kernel now, apparently without problems. I guess YMMV, or maybe that should be MMMV.
Isn't there a kernel less than 1.78 like 1.67 or something. A 1.6 kernel should be ok and u don't need to turn it up to max.

For CM9, faux is the only one that maybe works as far as I know. There is a mod over in the dev forum that overclocks to 1.5, I think. Haven't tried it, so I can't verify.
cm9 was great, but it wasn't stable yet and couldn't be over clocked
so i tried aokp that wasn't as good the screen looked too small and spaced out, but yo ucould over clock. And unfortunately without me knowing my phone was backing up my apps, ON MY DATA, so i owe virgin about 200$ now =_= for using 70$
In the end i went back to arhd, do yo uguy have any recommendation.
Use faux kernel 005b3 it will over clock it to 1.728.and it is stable and will run great.I have been running it for 5 days no problem.

First make double sure the kernel is compatible with your rom and operating system and firmware . Then wipe cash.and dalvik cash, then flash like a rom. By downloading the Kernel to the root of your SD card and flash through recovery. I like 4 ext recovery. After wiping you install from SD card then reboot. Hope this helps.
Of course do the download first, then wipe, then flash
