With all the great info you provided I am sure someone will be able to help
well i read earlier that someone had problems with the android.process.media has stopped... thats the problem about after a minute of it pooping up my phone just resets. no need to be a **** about it
Without info you aren't going to get any good help. A rebooting phone could be caused by many issues. So far you have given us an error. This is still very little to go on. And now since you resorted to name calling I doubt you will get much help.

That error could be cause by no less then 100 different things. Welcome to a development site. You have to provide all the needed info before we can help. With the info you gave me I would suggest to flash to a stock rom and stay there until you understand a little bit more about what your doing. I see no rom, radio, ril, mods, recovery, it flashing info at all.

That's what i was thinking, but i was accused of flaming by a guy in the Captivate forums today, so i bit my tongue
i just flashed the absolution rom and it again crashed on me and i did wipe the cache and system before installing the custom rom.
and it reboots in the middle of typing or on standby >.< it is quite irritating to be honest
Rebooting
This is caused with a bad flash, radio/ril mismatch, and other programs that have been reinstalled from a backup. I would also suggest re-flashing to a stock rom, and see if it still does it, and if not I would look at getting a new rom. You also can reinstall the one you are running and then add the apps back one at a time to see if it is generated by them. Also I suggest going back to the dev thread and make sure you have the correct radio-ril combo. Search-Research and you will find the root cause.

The absolution Rom was having some issues with battery and themes tweaks in the absolution tools. If you happened to change any of those that is probably the problem.
Random Reboot
well instead of starting a new thread I'll tap onto this one. I am also experiencing random reboots. My phone will reboot regardless if you are using it or not.The reboots can be as far apart as a couple of days or as frequent as 4 times a day. I am running a stock Gingerbread OS.(AT&T) The phone is not rooted. The phone is as stock as possible. The only apps on the phone are the ones that are pre-loaded by AT&T. I have changed the battery with a new OEM HTC battery. I replaced the SD card. I have also replaced the battery door.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Its the battery. I had mine reboot at 96% and 48%. Replace the battery.

I've been looking around for any mentions of this for a while now, but i only found vague mentions of it a while back. I thought it'll eventually get fixed in one of the custom roms.
I'm starting to think this is an isolated case since no one is mentioning it at all. (or it's me going crazy. i hope not.)
When trying the key test in the recovery, it doesn't seem to drop anything at all, but when booting android, it drops whenever i type fast enough.
Can anyone confirm whether or not their phone drops keys randomly when typing?

but if it's really fixed, maybe it's something i installed? will do a clean install and report back
I know that the stock ROM did this (KG2, and KJ2), and my install of GOv2 does this, as well.
I'm just waiting for some extra time to get CMv2 installed.

this problem can be fixed from what i've read by using NXD's kernel as well
Formatted /system, dalvik, cache, deleted userdata, reinstalled CM merged 2.0, still drops.
try flashing nxd's kernal over what you already have it might work

yeah... just figured id offer the only advice i could, aside from his device being messed up. i think its still worth a shot
interestingly enough, the Samsung Epic 4G also had dropped keystrokes issues. But this one seems to be a different problem.
On the SK4G, keys are dropped at random when typing fast.
on the E4G, keys are dropped when repeating the same character quickly (eg. hello, according to that post anyway)

well, thanks for the attempt, but it's still the same. I doubt it's hardware-related, since the keytest in recovery isn't dropping keys.
Yeah, the Epic 4G was WAY worse lol. I actually contacted the dev. that pretty much fixed the problem on the Epic, and he was curious and took a look at the SK. He said indeed that the SK shouldn't suffer nearly the same keyboard woes. But he did make a little patch for us anyway, to try and improve some other stuff, but it was never put into a kernel I don't think.
I do get a missed keystroke on this device every now and then, but not too often.

Well, i noticed it happens VERY randomly. sometimes it's just once every 10 messages in gtalk, sometimes, it hits twice or thrice in a single message. drives me crazy :/
Lol, I hear ya. That patch was posted, possibly even in the thread you linked, so it might still be there. Sduvick didn't feel motivated to add it to a kernel, and even tho it is simple, my patching skills were limited, so it never got tested.
I'll see if I can find where the interaction took place, and see if the patch link is still good.
This is me typing as fast as I can I drop keystrokes all the tim but it only seems to be the e the g and sometimes t I think its a hardware problem I'm not looking at the screen at all so you can see where the keystrokes might be dropping also I've had sidekicks since 2007 so I'm used to the full keyboard and typing extremely fast on it lol lalalalalala typey typey typey...
And now a few 4 letter words typed 20 tmes in a row watch for drops
Time time time time time time time time time time tim time time time time time time time time time
Ding ding ding ding din ding ding ding ding ding digng ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding
Dirt dirt dirt dirt dirt dirt dirt dirt dirt dirt dirt dirt dirt dirt dirt dirt dirt dirt dirt dirt
And there you have it looking back on this post now I dropped a total of 2 e's and 1 g.

as i've said, it drops them VERY randomly. And for some reason, it doesn't drop, or at least as much as during regular use, when you start testing for drops. That, or maybe we're testing it wrong.
In my case, I'm getting drops on seemingly all of the keys. Sometimes on T. Sometimes Space. Sometimes even Return. etc.
Can anyone else test in the recovery key test under advanced just to make sure it's not hardware related?

It's worth a try, although I still don't see how the changes I made would alleviate dropped keystrokes. The printk logging statements have close to zero overhead compared to the rest of the Android stack.

Just to be sure, would you check what kernel version shows up under Settings -> About Phone?
I'm wondering if perhaps sometimes, the kernel is failing to flash.

this was back in the days of KD1, but i hope it could still be of use to us.
So I have had my s3 since around the 10th and I've loved it so far. Lately I have been having issues that surly aren't annoying but on the other hand im not exactly sure if a software update would fix anyone of these things. As of now I am not rooted at all and everything is stock. These are my main problems for the phone
1.) While texting on stock messaging app (I just love the stock app) the keyboard constantly freezes up while im texting
2.) Screen flickers yet not too drastically
3.) For some reason when I try to set my custom vibration pattern it only stays as the basic call vibration and only changes when im getting a phone call.
Like I said these issues really aren't drastic and im not sure if it really warrants a replacement phone at all. I talked to the VZW tech support and she said that its up to me really because I am deff able to get one for these issues. The only thing that made me have second thoughts was the fact that she said most likely im getting a "certified like new phone" meaning that its basically been used before and im not sure if I should really trust it. Anyways im really on the fence about this so if anyone can give me some in sight id really appreciate it.
ps: I did factory resets and everything and it still has not fixed these issues

Ok thanks ill do just that. My final question now is does this count as rooting my phone? just in case I do end up sending back my phone I dont want there to be any problems with it
Turn off Settings | Display | Auto adjust screen tone to address the flicker problem.
The keyboard is probably searching predictive text; I've only used the stock KB for a few minutes. Wife and I use SwiftKey without any problems (including right now).
I have vibration disabled completely, so I can't even guess on that one (I can't even find the option you're talking about and I know I've seen it before!)

reason #2 is enough to try and get it swapped.
That is a hardware issue, and will only get worse.
I have had a dozen smartphones, and anything that CONNECTS stuff (headphone jack to the motherboard, cables connecting screens etc) only get worse until they stop working entirely.
Good luck!

Flashing the stock image through Odin is not the same as rooting your phone. It would not trip the flash counter so you could still return it if you wish.

Hi guys
Last night I installed the fallout rom on my desire s and it's all done.
I'm facing a problem, that is even when I disable auto-rotate from display settings, it still keeps rotating the phone. (In settings menu, and everywhere else unless I disable auto rotate in some app but most don't even have the auto rotate setting and follow the default settings, which is set to disable but is still on for some reason)
Basically I want to disable auto rotate permanently. I do not ever need it.
Any idea how to do this? There must be a way. This is really a deal breaker for me for this rom and it's the first custom rom i've installed on my phone.
This bug is known about Fallout. There is no fix.
You can try a newer Sense 4 ROM (like Nik Project X)

I understand ROM loyalty and am convinced that fallout is a great ROM and one which I want to stick with. However, your experience of never having had a certain problem does not mean that you can say it doesn't exist.

You may have a point but it isn't valid in this case as the problem started two months after the installation.
Actually I lean to the feeling that this is not a problem with the ROM but I'm finding it interesting that I have now found several people mentioning this problem associated with this ROM - so I'm now seeking clarification, which is not really helped by apparently automatic denial that a problem exists by people who have no knowledge of it.

My desire s with stock rom is experiencing some issue, i called htc up, tech told me to do a factory reset, hey that solve the problem, but wait, i dont think that should be the solution, ROLL OUT ANOTHER OTA!!!
Same case here, just do a fresh clean install, with backup apps and data. If after 2 months it happen again, then come back and report. Or you expecting fallout v6, which in my case i dont mind :victory: in xda new roms are always welcome.
The dev or someone with expertise needs to experience the issue for you to have clarification, if non are having u only get assumptions from people who are not knowledgeable enuf.

So following your advice I did a totally clean install and the problem was still with me - so I figured it was a problem with the phone. Just to be sure I installed a different ROM and the problem was gone. That suggests to me, regretably, that it is problem with this ROM. Why it should happen to some people and not others is a bit of a mystery.
I felt it was both arrogant and ignorant of me to give feedback with a diiferent Rom on my phone, so I decided to flash fallout before making a reply since I had the zip on my pc. Never like going back to older roms, always going for the newer ones.
And result is, rotation works. No issue here. On and it rotates, with the phone still tilted I off and it went back to vertical without me tilting it back.
Sad that this Rom is having issue with your phone.

All i can really think of is that in the viper rom you have the option under tweaks to let the screen turn on when a message arrives. Mine used to do the same thing every once in a while but it was somehow connected to my data connectivity jumping all over the place so i re-flashed and wiped caches which did the trick.
Hope you get the problem resolved for your nieces sake!

If there are still people with this kind of issue,
I would recommend to check for "wakelock" usage.
As third-party apps can use "wakelock" to turn on the screen, there might be some buggy app which is using the feature improperly.
I had the same case before, turned out that "Naver Mail" app was using Screen wakelock to turn the screen on randomly.
As a solution, there is an app in Google Play called "Wakelock detector" which has a feature to show statistics of Screen wakelocks.
GooD luck
Random Screen On caused by faulty power adapter
I changed my power adapter for charging, and the problem went away immediately. I assume it was the result of either drawing too much power, or not enough to charge the phone. Anyway, there you go. Hope it helps! :silly:
