The future of my samsung galaxy s (is it bright?)

Hi I have just brought a Samsung galaxy s which I really like but I have a 14 day return period and I am having some doubts.
Gingerbread has recently been announced and I am thinking that it is unlikely that the galaxy s will get an update what do you guys think?
When I had WM (touch pro 2) I could upgrade roms whenever a new device came out, I'm guessing this is more likely to happen with android on a htc device?
I suppose my question would be this, is there any devices which are being released within about a month which will be as good as my galaxy s but likely to last with good updates etc.
Sorry about my vauge questions I just dont wanna spend all this money on a phone to find support gets pulled at the first moment.
I don't think you should worry.
I haven't heard of any phones that will be confirmed to have 3.0 (Gingerbread) other then the obvious nexus one.
You will be able to download any custom rom that is written for Gingerbread. You don't really need the official update, do you? I know it is nice, but it shouldn't affect your decision of a phone.
Plus, from what I hear, the Galaxy S is pretty sweet.
samsung chairman has directed the mobile phone division to focus on the galaxy series so I wouldn't worry so much.

Honestly I don't think Gingerbread is aimed at phones at all. I think it's for netbooks and pads really.
Ok thanks guys, that's what I wanted to hear. I'll be keeping the SGS then

[Q]Samsung Galaxy Precedent 2.3 Rom Request

Recently purchased the Galaxy precedent for straight talk and absolutely love it. especially with straight talks 45 dollar unlimited plan. BUT, im being driven insane only running froyo. I mean its great functional, but i find my self heavily modding it to get it to do things that gingerbread does natively and would love support for even more future applications! If anyone would help im sure I wouldnt be the only one to embrace it!
Here is a forum on Rooting the Precedent as well as some do's and don't's.

Hey I have the m828c precedent also and I have recently rooted my phone. I was wondering what mods are available for this phone? I had an iPod touch and loved experimenting with the jailbrake and now I have upgraded to the Droid phone and I want to experiment with Modding now. Can you help? Cyanogenmod doesn't have a mod for the m828c as far as I know.. please respond lol

Thanks a lot for the info. It is great that there is smart guys in the world. I purchased my precedent a while ago. Unfortunately i bricked it and fortunately i had warranty on it so got a new phone. I loved the areaRom that i was running. Made great space for many apps with the partion making thru CWM. I think that if i would have brincked it i would have stayed with it for a very long time. Thanks for the info.

Forgot... since im new (about 2 or 3 months) learing about how root works... what would be the first step into learning how to actually be able to root or create a mod or ROM for one?? any ideas and direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Regards, Pryma
I'm astonished these bricks are so old that dev communities weren't already used to meet here on xda.

[Q] (Maybe a) stupid question

Hey guys, so i played around with my cousins i9000 she gave me as a gift cus she's now on the i9300, anyway
Just wanted to ask if it is technically possible to port a full touchwiz ROM, like the stock ROM for the i9000 or even better the stock ICS from the SGS2 ^^
I just love the swipe-to-call function, it also looks kinda nice xD
So, yeah that's about it, just wanted to know if it would be possible, i mean they got sense working... more or less, but still...

MattLowry wrote a great "how-to-port" guide thread a month or two back, including guidance on what would be easy/hard. It's stickied in the general section. Why not have a go and let us know?

VERY possible! If you'll use these two links to reference what's compatible with our phone & what isn't, it'll help decide where to at least consider starting at.

(Processor size & type along with screen resolution are the two "biggies")
Okay, if i got time i will look into that
But it wont be soon...university calls...even in the holidays *sigh*

[Q] Question about Roms and Phone Variants

Hey everyone ^^. Im new to XDA and sort of new to the Android modding scene too. Im curious if i can install any Rom on my Galaxy S5. I know they have to be specifically designed for that phone, but are there certain Roms that are tied to a certain phone carrier/variant? Specially designed? I guess my question would be could i take a Rom made for the Galaxy S5 Dev Edition from Verizon and use that Rom on a galaxy S5 regular verizon variant? Sorry for being such a Newb :/
generally speaking the rom has to say its for your exact model/variant/carrier/etc or you will likely have issues and even possibly brick.
as far as specifically a dev rom to your phone, im not positive, but following the rule above, the answer is most likely no you cant.
