Class 2 mSD card good enough? - Samsung Infuse 4G

I know with some phones you can record 1080p HD video and that wouldn't go so well with a class 2. But for anything you can do on the infuse (720p video) is it good enough for recording and playback of at least 720p HD video? I've googled and searched XDA, but it's all people trying to record 9001p super-mega-ultra HD l33t hax video and who are apparently transferring huge files on a regular basis.
So like I asked, good enough for anything you can do on the Infuse? Or do I need to wait for amazon to stop being a turd and buy a class 4?

I know they recommend a class 4 for the infuse. Radio shack had 16GB class 4 for 30$ not too long ago. Its what I have, until I have the extra 80-90$ for a 32GB from best buy.

Unless you're taking the mSD card out of your phone and putting it into a card reader, a class 2 is just fine in a phone.

32gb sd card on Captivate

Does the Captivate get slow with the 32gb sd card from Verizons website? Ive heard people say that it doesnt play vids that are 1.5gb, I have movies that are 1.5gb mp4 at 720p, will they play?
What class is the card?
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App
The slowest card they will put out will be a class 2. That's the minimum allowed by the standard. I have a 16GB class 2 card in my phone now, and I can play HD video off it with no hiccups, so I would imagine that the 32GB card would do the same. As soon as I can find $150 I don't have a better use for, I intend to get one.
Buy dot com sells them for about 125 =p
But yeah, they should all work fine for watching movies, the file size limit generally has to do with the file system being used, but 1.5gb shouldn't be an issue I wouldn't think.

[Q] Microsd card 16 or 32GB ?

What sdcard can you recommend 16 or 32 GB? Of course I am considering only 16GB class 10 and 32 GB class 4.
I would like to know some points of view, like if it is useful to have 32GB rather than 16, how works the phone, I mean slower or normally with 32 and so on.
Thanks for your help
Well tell me this.. are you even using 16 or even 8gb of data on your micro sd card? 32 and 16 seem overkill.
Actually I have almost full my current 8GB, you know some ROMs for emulators ,some movies etc. so maybe 16 shall be ok.

My advice is that if you can afford to pay for a good 32gb from genuine traders, then go for a 32gb. It will save you the trouble of buying a 32gb sooner than later.
I have a 32gb on both my winmo and on my DZ. Can record without crossing everything for fear of running out of space.

Be very careful if you buy from eBay. I bought a fake, but since I had paid using paypal, I got my money back.
if you're going 32gb, then I'll be assuming you'll be putting your music library in there.
I"m also in the market for a 32gb micro sd (maybe if i can get my paws on a class 10, but that's really dropping some serious money on it [atleast for me]) since my music library is at a scant 16gigs (maybe more, but i havne't checked) so I wouldn't mind 32gb so i have lots of leeway to get my stuff in there.
There is only one question here:
Music or no music?
If you have music on your phone, go for the 32GB.
If not, I'd go for the faster 16GB.
I just bought a 32GB Class 10 Patriot card for a little over $100 at Frys .
Definitely an improvement over the 16GB Class 2 I was using . Buy the best
once and never look back IMO
id say grab a kingston 8gb class 10, just got mine for 19.99 ill wait on a 32 class 10 when they're not so obscenly priced..

I have one of these too, make SURE you follow the format instructions on patriots forums otherwise the card is going to go tits up and corrupt all your data once it stores over 16GB of data. There are "issues" with newer android/wm7 phones and patriot class 10 32gb microsd cards (they admit its true). Their current workaround/fix is to format it a specific way WITHOUT LBA and with 32k clusters.
I haven't tried it yet since, I said screw it, and went back to my 16GB a-data class 6. I lost all my data on the patriot 3 times and using my phone for music is not that important.
Other people on that forum say the "fix" works though so it may benefit you to format it per the instructions if you haven't already and you are worried about data loss.
I put the 32gb patriot card in my dslite so my daughter has more games to play. She's 6 and is beyond happy with all the stuff on it now. Anyways, here are the two important threads over on patriots website for the 32gb class 10 LX card.

I didn't notice enough of a speed difference between the class 10 and class 6 on my g2 anyway. I DO, however, notice a difference in speed when I use the class 10 card on my ds lite. Certain games don't stutter or freeze with it.
Ok i have bought 32GB class 4 Kingston for some about 90USD. As i had been reading i have found the highest class 4 for 32 instead class 10 :/ so i was too fast.

Micro SDHC Card

I'm updating the puny 2Gb placeholder in my Atrix 2. I finally settled on a little known name , Dane Elec, and ordered it from New Egg. Cost me $55 shipped and it's a class 10 card. They are the company making the new Duracell flash units. When I get it installed I'll come back and do a review if anyone is interested

I just ordered up a 32 gig class 10 as well. I was digging through all the data that seems to be split between the onboard and the sdhc card. I'm curious what happens with the various apps when you replace the card.

I'm pretty sure that if you mount both SD cards to your computer and copy everything from old to new, that the system has no problem carrying on with new card with more space. I have done this several times with Inspire 4G, did it once with Atrix 2 going from the stock 8 to a 16GB that I had, and will be doing it again soon with new 32GB.

So do I need to put the new card in and let the phone format it first or format it on the PC?
Let the phone format it, and then transfer the information to it. Good luck with the class 10 micro sd cards. People on the forum to include I are having issues with them. Supposedly going down to a class 4 and 6 will remove the problems the phone is having.
Taking pictures or recording video, the items will show up at as non readable. Everytime I take a pic the first pic is always bad, all of the others show up just fine. Gets annoying but i've managed to overcome it. Also when that happens all of the pictures you took after take a year to show up in the picture viewer. I have to reboot the device just to take a look at the ones I just shot.

shoot, I already placed an order for a class 10, I just assumed it was higher quality, like the way cpu's are binned for speed.
Any recommendation on a specific card that works w/o trouble ?

i am using a sandisk 16 gb class 4 card that was really cheap on newegg with free shipping. i am not sure if the deal is still going on. there is a link below:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820171486
I copied what I posted in another thread.
My experience has been just the opposite. I originally purchased a 16gb class 4 PNY card and I had the aforementioned read only issues. I then exchanged it for a 16gb class 10 PNY and all has been good since. and that has been about 3 weeks ago. Go figure?
New Question:
Could it be that different manufactures arrive at various class standards using different architecture? Maybe the same class of card from one manufacturer can act differently then another manufacturer? I think ultimately that it shouldn't matter which card we use if the software/hardware is correct, we should be able to put any "reasonable" card we like in the phone and it should work. Hopefully Moto will issue an update so the phones wont be so picky. By the way I love my Atrix 2 and have no desire to get anything else.

Its not that simple. It depends on the hardware.....my HD camcorder for example, it specifically states that it needs at least a class 4 card, otherwise the info cant be written to the card as fast as it needs to be and will error out. Im sure something similar is at play here. But with Motorola not specifying what class card its compatible with it becomes a trial by error. So far the most common thing among the many people who have had this problem is the class 10 card.
Sent from my MB865 using XDA App
Yes I agree I have been playing with HD camcorders for a few years and I understand that the medium whether it is a card or a disc or tape needs to be able to keep up with data stream being sent to it. Im sure something similar is at play here as well but a faster card shouldn't give negative results? You are right that a camcorder has a "minimum" rating but although a faster card will not necessarily give any better performance it certainly shouldn't be worse or cause issues like it appears to on these phones.

Logical, but its not always like that. Example....in car audio, the head unit sends signal via rca's to an external amplifier, the higher voltage the signal, the more efficient the amp will be and the better it will sound. So logic will tell you if you can get an 8v signal to the amp then it should sound lovely since most signals are 1-2volts....well, if ur amp can only handle up to 6v signal then feeding it an 8v signal will cause the amp to go into protect mode and not work right.

I think I shall try this now
I had my hopes up for this to work... but sadly it does not. Using a PNY 16 gb class 10 card.
It's a bust on the Dane Elec class 10 card. It doesn't say what class it is at New Egg but has a prominent 10 in a circle. Turns out that is for the warranty. It's a class 2 card, goes back today. After reading all this I may step down to a class 4 or 6.
NewEgg has a class 4 32gb card for $41 shipped ordered that based on what I've read

Samsung 32GB Class 10 or Sandisk 32GB Class 4

I'm very tempted to get one of these cards. I did search and read a lot about the sandisk card. But there isn't much about the samsung class 10 card. Can someone please shed some light on it.

I try both on my Sensation....i think Samsung is just a little bit better but noothing special.
samsung or sandisk
you should look at the sandisk mobile ultra 32gb class 6.
not the cheapest card, but I would say the undisputted class six speed demon.
take the class 4 one, you dont need the speed of a class 10 on the phone it's just wasting money
Have a search for one of the SD card threads which should have detailed benchmark data in. Maximum read and write speads are not the only important factors. If you mean this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-MB-MSBGAEU-32GB-Class-Micro/dp/B005FY61EK, I can confirm it works well. I benchmarked mine before I put anything on it and, in megabytes per second it scored:
Seq Read: 20.06 Seq Write: 12.10
512k Read: 19.82 512k Write: 11.86
4k Read: 4.777 4k Write: 1.270
4k QD32 Read: 4.917 4k QD32 Write: 1.271
The 4k read and write values are apparently very important for us as the phone will read and write lots of small files to the SD.
These speeds ECLIPSE my Sandisk 16GB class 4 card and explain why Android on my old HD2 was slow whenever I put apps n stuff on the SD card. Hope this helps you make your mind up. Try and find that thread : )

Yep. Go for speed first.
16gb class 4
I've been using a 16gb class 4 sandisk and it works exactly as stated. Usually writes between 4-5 MB/s and reads between 20-30 MB/s. Its been very consistant and I've had no problems. If your looking for a dependable card id go with the sandisk.

64gb Sandisk extreme

Anyone try this card out on the S4? Is there a huge difference in speeds between the ultra and extreme? My 64gb "samsung" brand microsd card is failing on me and im in the market for a new card and i learned my lesson so i dont mind spending the extra bucks for a "reliable" card .
just need an opinion if its worth spending twice the money for the extreme?
i have the class 10 sandisk microSDHC; works fine zero issues. GF has one in her S4 too.
I also confirm that it works.
64GB SanDisk cards in my Galaxy 4, Nook Tablet, and HTC Vision all working with no problems.
But can and does the Samsung S4 support the faster speeds that the extreme offers ?
I thought the reader in the S4 was limited. Can anyone confirm ?

It would seam to me the hardware speed must be limited, I was using a class 4 16gb card moved to a 64gb uhs1/class 10 and acording to sdcard speed test the write speed is actually slower or about equal compaired to the class 4 which doesn't make sense to me unless my card is crap.

Class 10 is only 10MB write /sec. Its not fast.
Sandisk Extreme is 50MB/sec but Ive read that the S4 micro SD is limited and the maximum you can get is 20MB/sec
so theres very little benefit in getting one with faster speeds.
May as well save money and get a slower one.
1080P video recording [technically] requires a Class 6 card or better.
The faster your SD card is, the faster some activities will complete. Like Titanium Backups or making a nandroid of your ROM. These are write intensive activities and if you're not a patient kind of person, then go with the fastest SD card you can get.
Otherwise, I'd get a Class 6 at a minimum. And make sure to get a real card because eBay is flooded with fake SD cards that are slower than advertised speed.
I'm in the plumbs parking lot right now
