Samsung 32GB Class 10 or Sandisk 32GB Class 4 - HTC Sensation

I'm very tempted to get one of these cards. I did search and read a lot about the sandisk card. But there isn't much about the samsung class 10 card. Can someone please shed some light on it.

save yourself some cash and get a samsung 32gb class 6,

I try both on my Sensation....i think Samsung is just a little bit better but noothing special.

samsung or sandisk
you should look at the sandisk mobile ultra 32gb class 6.
not the cheapest card, but I would say the undisputted class six speed demon.

take the class 4 one, you dont need the speed of a class 10 on the phone it's just wasting money

Have a search for one of the SD card threads which should have detailed benchmark data in. Maximum read and write speads are not the only important factors. If you mean this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-MB-MSBGAEU-32GB-Class-Micro/dp/B005FY61EK, I can confirm it works well. I benchmarked mine before I put anything on it and, in megabytes per second it scored:
Seq Read: 20.06 Seq Write: 12.10
512k Read: 19.82 512k Write: 11.86
4k Read: 4.777 4k Write: 1.270
4k QD32 Read: 4.917 4k QD32 Write: 1.271
The 4k read and write values are apparently very important for us as the phone will read and write lots of small files to the SD.
These speeds ECLIPSE my Sandisk 16GB class 4 card and explain why Android on my old HD2 was slow whenever I put apps n stuff on the SD card. Hope this helps you make your mind up. Try and find that thread : )

I'm looking at the Sandisk Mobile Ultra class 6. I think I will go for that. Anyone's got one yet?

Saw this in a shop today and thought of getting it but it's a waste of money really. I think I'll just go for the Class 4 or 6 32 GB sandisk card.

Hello there!

isn't a class 10 better for multi-booting a rom from an sd-card? I think both brands are pretty good

I got the class 10 Samsung the ouzo posted the link for, blazing fast & apparently waterproof, so if your phone ends up in a beer glass (happens more often than I'd like) the data is safe

It is always better to buy the fastest card. My choice would be Samsung Class 10

Yep. Go for speed first.

16gb class 4
I've been using a 16gb class 4 sandisk and it works exactly as stated. Usually writes between 4-5 MB/s and reads between 20-30 MB/s. Its been very consistant and I've had no problems. If your looking for a dependable card id go with the sandisk.

I have one of the original 32gb SanDisk Class 2 MicroSDHC cards and a PNY Class 10 32gb
So far I haven't noticed a difference, Other than I filled the SanDisk already and got the PNY so I could archive the SanDisk

Does the clad of your memory card affect how full hd videos record ?? I'm using a class 4 and it sometimes freezes during playback then picks back up would a class 10 eliminate this.

Actually if someone could point out the differences in the classes and which one is "recommended" on the DHD?? I would also like a 16Gig...
And how to check what class I have on the DHD now?
Cheers!
I can answer The class thing the higher the class the faster it reads and writes which it recommends nothing below a class 4 for hd video recording at present in got a 16gb class 6 works great just wanting more space

yeah true would make it harder to now if you getting real deal, probly only way to know your getting what you ask for is import from a decent website. but you can always test the class of sd card by it transfer speed on pc as a class 6 should be able to transfer at around 6mb/sec if im right. but can your pc read/write at 6mb/sec i know mine can't lol
I'm pretty sure mine does... an i7

The class shows the minimum read/write speed of the card as shown below
Rating Read (Mb/s) Write (MB/s) Class
13× 16.0 2 2
26× 32.0 4 4
40× 48.0 6 6
66× 80.0 10 10
It is possible that a Name brand class 6 card, could out perfom a no name class 10 card as the speeds are minimum, I would tend to avoid anything slower than class 4 as it MAY introduce lag involving SD read/write operations
To those who have 32gb cards, what brands are they?
Contemplating between transcend and sandisk. transcend is a bit cheaper though. I just dont know anyone who can vouch for transcend.
I bought one from MyMemory.co.uk, just their own branded ones was about £52 class 4 couldn't be happier with it

On looking up the official standards of MicroSD cards http://www.sdcard.org/developers/tech/sdhc/ it only talks about differences in speed ratings such as class 2, class 4 ect. So I assume that HTC are advertising the Desire HD as only supporting class 2 MicroSD cards. I would like to know if anyone can confirm if using the USB cable to transfer data to a PC is actually getting faster speeds using a higher class MicroSD card than class 2 standards?
HTC isn't saying that the DHD supports class 2 only it just doesn't specify. (the micro-sd 2.0 thing is completely different to what you're thinking about the 2.0 means it supports micro-SDHC not that it supports class 2 only. and about the speed difference, I have a class 2 8GB micro-SDHC and that writes at 2MB/s and reads at 4MB/s, a class 4 16GB that writes at 4MB/s and reads at 5MB/s, and finally a class 10 32GB that writes at 12MB/s and reads at 15MB/s. (All tested on my Desire HD) So there is a HUGE difference between classes 2 , 4 and 10 when copying through USB.
Hello,
what class 10 32GB do you have?
best regards huggy
It's a Kingston. I would tell you the model number but I chucked the rubbish away.

[Q] SD Card class 2?

Hi!
Is it stupid to buy a SanDisk class 2 SDCH card for my Sensation? Or does it not matter as long as it is SDHC?
I realy don't want a slow card this time and this new sensation maybe handles faster ones than my old HD2 did....
Please help to buy the right card
stick with a MINIMUM of class 4.
The classification of card is how fast the card reads and writes. This will help you understand....
http://dcom.me/iS9nz
I would go with class 10, for write and read speeds if you plan on watching movies or putting alot of content on the card, usually the bigger the card the higher the class you want...I have a 16gb class 2 and got a class 10 instead because it would lag loading all mp3's and photos
I have a Class 2 32GB Sandisk card in my SGSII, its fine for recording and decoding 1080p video, I suspect the same will be true of the Sensation (can confirm later, my Sensation should be with me later today).
If the budget is less of an issue then obviously you're better off with a faster card (not in terms of in-phone performance, but certainly for PC-card transfers).
Amazon has 8gb class 10 for like $20

You can't go wrong with Class 10 just to be safe. I got a 16GB class 10 at Fry's for around $45.

Dont get a class 2 card......
I bought a 32GB Class 10 card. I bought this one.
The card needs special formatting in order for it to work in an Android phone properly. Otherwise it gets data corruption and eventually unreadable. Those instructions can be found here.
Once I did that it has worked flawlessly. No issues, fast data transfer and about 28.9GB of usable space. There are other Class 10 cards out there but I've seen issues reported on all of them. They may just need the same style formatting as this one.
DO NOT, i repeat, DO NOT get less than a class 2 card. You will regret the time it takes to transfer files back and fourth and personally I don't recommend anything slower than a class 6. Here are some 16GB Class 6 cards for fairly cheap prices.

Memory Card - Minimum Class/Speed?

As I understand it, the T-Mobile HTC Sensation 4G will accept a maximum 32GB card.
What, precisely, to I want to seek out (speed rating - 4? 6? 10?) and what do I want to avoid (I know some of the SDHC cards have different standards).
I would like to go up to a 16GB card. I am looking at Class 10 speed since that seems to carry a minor cost increase vs. 6 or 4. I want to stick with a name brand such as Kingston.
Am I on the right track?
Thank you for any help.

I'm using this and I get around 9.5-10.3 write speed, and around 22 read speed.
Thank you for the reply !
install this on your sensation and your read speed will increase. it says it only works for rooted devices but I tried installing on mine and it increased the speed especially the loading of videos and photos in gallery. Im not sure if it installed or not because I can't find the sd booster icon anywhere but it definitely speed up the read speed.
https://market.android.com/details?id=de.mehrmann.sdbooster
I have had some issues with SD cards in my phone, I emailed HTC support and they replied stating the following "Bill, your device is compatible with the SD 2.0 standard, i.e., it can theoretically read and write to microSD cards up to 32 GB.
Please verify the class of the 32 GB card you purchased. Our devices read and write to storage cards at Class 2 speeds. Although Class 4 SD cards will normally function in these devices, they may not recognize Class 6 or Class 8 cards."
Personally I wouldnt put in anything less than a class 10 so I get the fastest transfer speed while loading up music etc.

This area is a minefield. I personally have a class 10 32GB card but in hindsight, a class 4 or 6 would have done.
Generally most card have a higher read speed than write speed, which makes the "class" rating useless. For most users, read speed is most important . Very few devices require class 10 write speeds (with the exception of professional class cameras). You need to avoid class 2 but otherwise you can only go wrong by buying knock off cards from eBay.

I got that the class determine the speed like :

4 4 MB/sec
6 6 MB/sec

So, this means data rate

I attended a training held by htc for the sensation and they said the phone would work with a class 2 although it is highly suggested to use class 4 or higher. [Q] Which MicroSD do you use??

Hi there, I just bought the Sensation and I started the research for a good Micro SD to use on it. On my previous phone (the Desire I have in my sign) I had a Sandisk 8GB Class 6 which never gave me any prob, but I'm reading here and there that with the size of the new ROMs having less than 16Gb would mean meeting a few problems when it comes to have more than a couple of nandroid on your SD, plus video & pics in HD require more & more space.....SO: I wanted to get a 16GB class 6 or 10 but I'm having quite a hard time to find a Sandisk one (I'm wondering if Sandisk even produce something like that...) and at the same time I read here & there in various forum people having some trouble with non-sandisk memory card
At this point I thought to ask all of you which card do you use and if and what problems did you experience with it(?!?)
Tried to use the search tool but couldn't find out much out of this subject...
P.S. If you choose "Other" in the poll please then specify with a post which one you use exactly!

Class 10 all the way. I have a class 10 and it's slow, I wonder how slow will a lower class be.
I use class 10 cards in my DSLR, and would normally recommend them, however after installing CM7 on a microSD for my mother's nook color everything I read said your better getting a SanDisk class 2 than anything else, even in class 10. Apparently there is not a good standard for rating cards. I would recommend looking up specific benchmarks and choose from them.

Careful when buying sandisk especially online. There are some bad apolss out there selling improperly marked sd cards which say class 10 but really are just class 2.
Well Class 2 guarantess you 2MB/s, Class 6 6MB/s and Class 10 10MB/s.
6 is enough, 10 is better, see what you can afford.
Probably a tradeoff between speed and space.
Check how much space you really need.
Is it class so important?
I mean..when you have a class 4 isn't just enough for a smartphone?

For just having media files on there, probably.
If you start putting apps to be run from there, you wan't as much speed as possible.
I think it much more depends on your ROM, not your external card. I have installed my apps on the ext2 partition and it does not appear to have any differences.

From personal experience, the speed of the card makes a big difference for the Desire because of all the app2sd games.
As someone mentioned before, brand and the store are also very important.
I bought a Lexar class 6 16GB and quite happy with it.

I was thinking of this link coming into this thread, it needs to be a forum-wide sticky. For a camera, a class 10 would most definitely be required. But for Android, there does not seem to be a consensus.
Good luck
you should buy a class 10 dude samsung or another
Go for a class 10. If you aim for sales and such, you can get one for the normal price of class 6 cards.
