[Q] Rooted devices best roms - General Questions and Answers

What are some good roms for rooted devices and tabs

I have a HTC inspire rooted it with HTC inspire 4G simple one click rc2
And leedroid. I am having some problems. be aware
K4GET

I have the evo 4g and through my experience cm7 is universally a good rom all around but personally i enjoy all kinged nocturnal roms.

CM7 is probably one of the better ones.

MIUI is always a good one, except for the no 4G.

Synergy is not too shabby

miui
10 char

CM7 on the i9000 for example .

I have used CM7 ever since it came out. Tried many, but I keep going back to CM7, because it is very familar to me, battery life is great and very few FC. Have heard nothing but good things about MIUI too, but tried it and just felt a little too Apple-like for me. As far as stability, speed and battery life, can't go wrong with either one.

HI
Ginger dx is a good rom

[Q] Buying an Inspire when it's back in stock..

So I'll be coming from a S***sung Craptivate after it killed its own memory, resulting in not having enough room to load a back-up or a fresh ROM after a full wipe. (Phone is actually in two pieces, divided straight across the center) I had the phone flashed with a rooted deodexed and lagfixed ROM (Paragon RC6) and undervolted and stock clock speed (1ghz). I also had a different launcher, text based icons, widgetlocker, basically nothing was "stock" about it, but that was out of need, to fix the shutdown problem, the crappy GPS, the crappy sound, the crappy speed, the crappy lag.. etc etc..
I will be buying a Desire when it is back in stock locally, hopefully with tomorrow's shipment. But I have a few questions...
How much different is everything about modding this phone? I've read the guides and the stickies, and liking the Ingersol ROM (with just a battery notification mod, would like it to be white and turn red below 15% instead of the crazy colors it does.)
I only have 3 questions really... but one or more may become more. Please bare with me.
1. It looks like to root I'd have to DOWNGRADE.. what does this downgrade affect, or is an up-to-date version flashed after the root?
2. Can anybody tell me what HTC Sense is all about? Is it the launcher? It seems like a combination of apps already out there but from HTC (Flip to silence for example). What do I lose by going with a non-sense ROM? Also I take it using Desire based ROMs don't use Sense? But why would people want to use a ROM based off a different phone altogether?
3. Gingerbread ROMs (CM7 and the like) were buggier than all hell on the Captivate. Sure it looked good (but that's theming) and was supposed to be fast, but all over the Craptivate develpment forums was posts about widgets/apps not working, not refreshing, or force closing constantly with 2.3.3. A lot of the phones functionality was lost too, like the ability to take pictures, or use it for social networking (Facebook not working..). How do the 2.3.3 ROMs take to the Inspire?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advanced!
You need to downgrade to get unknown sources back. HTC sense is basically a theme that designed for there phone if I'm not mistaking. The gingerbread themes here are very smooth and good. You will encounter bugs but that will always be fix from the developers

It only enables the exploit to get S-OFF (think recovery 2e from the Captivate, vs 3e which required signed update.zip's). Once done, you don't have to worry about it again. There are plenty of stock based ROM's like TPC or dilligaf for you to choose from if you so desire.

Sense is more than the launcher, it is a complete rework of the Android framework, like TouchWiz, but nowhere near as craptacular. It is actually useful. Any HTC sourced ROM will originally have Sense in it, but some HTC ROM's that say "no-sense" have a good chunk of that removed and are more like AOSP Android, but not quite all the way. Then there are other ROM's like CyanogenMod, which are based on actual Google AOSP code and have NO HTC software in them. It really is your choice which to use. I tend to flip between them. My personal favorites are CM7 and RCMixHD 5.9.4. I would flash them both to see what your preference is.

They work perfectly, with only the minorest of troubles that tend to be app specific, like the Gmail word wrap issue(which is not even a big deal at all). I haven't used a Froyo ROM in weeks.
And finally, welcome from another former Craptivate user! You will be MUCH happier with this phone.
Thanks!
In terms of stability, "snappiness" (at 1ghz clock speed), and resource consumption/management, is there a noticeable difference between Sense based, and AOSP based ROMs?
I'm also looking for decent battery life. I understand that screen on time and brightness, along with reception are the biggest consumers, but do one of the above based ROMs seem to do a better job of managing power consumption?
I am pretty weary of flashing a GB ROM just because of the numerous compatibility issues that I witnessed on the craptivate forum..
On the RCmix ROM, does it come overclocked by default? It says to use SetCPU to adjust it, so I'm assuming it runs at 1.0 ghz right off the flash? That ROM along with the theme with the white notification bar icons seems to be what I'll be flashing first. Thanks for the helpful information thus far!

The only thing about sense that really eats battery is the constant data usage of the HTC sense account, if you don't set up an account, your battery life should be rather good. As far as the gb roms they are all working very well, and you will find a small bug here and there, but all the major roms are very good daily drivers.
Most of the roms here have numorous tweaks for stability and snappiness, and you would probably be pleased with any of the major ones. I would say there is more difference between stock sense and tweaked sense than tweaked sense and no sense as far as performance goes. I ran stock for all of a few hours when I got this phone, and have been on a few roms with and without sense, and all of them have been very snappy and smooth.
Any of the major roms that support clock speed adjustments will use setcpu to adjust it, you can run at basically any speed setcpu lets you(within reason, and check the rom post for exceptions and recomendations) I currently run at a maximum of 1.5ghz on miui and my battery life is just as good as it was running 1.2ghz on android revolution.
And last but not least, don't be afraid of gingerbread here, most major bugs have been worked out and 90% of the problems posted about are due to the installer, not the rom.
Welcome aboard!

Just an add on note:
Gingerbread sense ROMs do not have overclocking right now. But really they are so butter smooth especially when compared to a captivate. RCMix5.9.3 has no compatibility issues I have found.

Yep they are GB. There is also Ultimate Droid, which I am using now. This is the best ROM I have used so far, but all of them have been rock solid as far as performance goes. I don't think you will find a bad ROM on here. You will recognize some of the devs from the captivate forums.
As for my battery life. I have been unplugged for just over 15hrs and I am down to 21%. That is with 2 push email accounts, 3 hours streaming rhapsody, 2 hours mp3 music, 30 mins of calls, and about 1 hour of browsing/gaming. It also helps that I am on wifi for 90% of the day.

Xaviier my man u may post, but a lot of times your information is short with not much Info.lmao buddy cm7 is pure gingerbread and miui. And htc sense is they user interface...meaning its the over lay on top of android. Without the ui, it would be pure vanillia.sense pretty much makes the experience of using the layout of android a lot more customizable with exclusive sense Widgets, sync options, even that beautiful clock. Kinda like how ur cappy had the touchwiz interface, just a lot better.

Are there any benefits of going with the GB version of RCmix versus the Froyo version? Basically I don't feel comfortable flashing an OS not designed for the device so I'm leaning towards the Froyo based version of that ROM.
Thanks agian for all the help. Really looking forward to this phone. Using a S***sung Mythic for the time being, I can't even type on this phone...

I've gotten better performance out of the GB ROMs I have used. I believe that ROM is based off the leaked GB for the Desire HD which is the same thing as the Inspire, so you shouldn't have any worries about it not being designed for this phone.

Yea, the UD ROM is really good. I've been on it for the past week or so and it is running like a champ. Making it really hard to switch to something else.

Good stable Rom and easy on the battery?

I second leedroid. I've literally tried Android revolution hd, coredroid, and leedroid, and leedroid seems to be the fastest, smoothest, and stable as far as I'm concerned with the ability to o/c up to 1.8ghz if you're into that sort of thing. Thanks developers!

cant say too much about battery life yet, but it seems pretty good
8 hours 48 mins.... from 98 to 67% with light usage...
I'm using CM7, and my battery lasts almost twice as long, with just a few apps running. IMO, HTC Sense is the problem causing massive battery drain. But I tend to like Android as it was intended to be.
CM7 or anything based on it is great. It's ran the smoothest for me.

are you guys using cm7 or cm7 nightly?
whats the difference anyways?
yea ill admit im trying to get my post count up, i could search....but i want to leave feedback in the dev section sooo....
I have found these 2 Roms the best for battery life.
Cleardroid and CM7 (not nightly)
Nightlies are updated pretty much every day. Not "stable" and experimental. I'm currently running CM7 Nightly 84 (downloading 85 right now) and i have pretty good battery life using LordMod's UEv2.0 VIO kernel with -25 script. I jumped on board the CM7 Nightly train from Android Revolution 5.1.5 (now 5.1.7) to try out Netflix, which works great. Though my battery life with ARHD 5.1.5 and I think it was Apache's kernel was fricking amazing. I could go two days between charges with normal/light usage.
Men there are many roms, i thing the Best is CoreDroid v6.6 Even leeDroid (Reboot issue)
Inspired ACE 1.0.1 + MDJ's Kernel V19
This is my Inspire after moderate use, always WIFI ON.
FaceBook+Twitter+Weather // Updating Data every Hour.
I tested every single Rom (I have 3 Inspires) this is THE BEST combination I found for battery life.

+1
I have tried so many different ROMS and have always come back to Inspired Ace 1.0.1 I have it heavily modded with lots of Sense 3.0 components and still the battery life is more than exceptable for me and the performance (even moderatly overclocked to 1.21) is clean and smooth.
i do have to say though that if you dont want the Sense experience then CM7 has to be the best out there. but for my taste i like the frills and bling theat Sense provide.
P.S. keep in mind that overclocking, even moderately is not recomended. And since all hardware reacts differently your inspire may not tolerate being overclocked or it may tolerate it even better than mine. Battery life as always is not an objective reference but subjective my use may be far less than yours and it all depends on what you are using it for.
so many to choose from, i keep going back to cm7 based personally. Recently been using mdj cm7.1.0 v1.4 with the latest lordmod kernal PUV. The rom can be found in the Desire HD section. Just flash the audio fix after flashing the rom. So fast yet has the least battery drain. On standby, I hardly draw any juice at all! TPGB is a great choice as well!
I have my wife's inspire running Inspired Saga (100% stable) using the 12.35..... radio and juice defender app. She avgs 1d 4hrs on a single charge. And yes that includes a few hours of angry birds. She has been running it for the last month. And i have yet to do anything to it since flashing the rom. No fc's no reboots etc. It runs flawlessly.

Now what is the best rom XDA has ?

Trying to get feedback the best gingerbread rom that is out on XDA at the moment since there is no Gingeritis and Bamnf.

That is like what asking what is the best food in the world lol...everyone has different tastes and opinions.
Liquid thunderbread takes CM7 and one ups it with less bugs, even more custom settings and better benchmarks. Otherwise if you use the same launcher on both roms they are strikingly similar (custom setting are just under liquid settings instead of cyanogen). For sense roms I have always ended up using chingy's roms (perfect storm, then 2.1 gingebread and finally 3d gingerbread)... and yes I know those are no longer an XDA rom but since the ASOP roms (when all the bugs are ironed out) are better than any sense roms (functionally) I really needed not mention any sense roms lol.
Honestly no one can tell you what the best ROM is. These thunderbolts... all of them seem different and all respond different to each ROM. You're going to have to run them for a week or so and figure out for yourself which one is best for you, and works best with your phone. I for one can not get GB BAMF to run smoothly on my phone. Best 3.0 sense for me was Gingeritis 1.1. I run CM7 and dream kernel as my daily driver and have had very few issues with anything.

Hi all CM7 USERS. Little game :) cm7 count

Hi im just asking all cyanogenmod 7 ser for the sensation to write "cm7 user" ONCE on this thread, i think we all want to know how many of us are out there
Thanks to everyone involved in cm7, goid work!!
So il start
Cm7 user
I've been using CM7 for two weeks now. Miss some aspects of Sense, but happy so far.
CM7 user here.
Im a potential CM7 user. I rooted my Sensation and was going to install ARHD but decided to wait a lil bit and see how CM7 comes along. How is the current CM7 build for the Sensation? I use my phone as my daily driver so I can't have it go wonky on me when Im not home.
I tried CM7 it's great and smooth and it will only get better but i find myself always missing certain aspects of sense.
CM7 User
I personally will never go back to sense
CM7 User here
cm7 user, waiting for alpha 8
Finally flashed my first ever ROM last night and it's CM7. Loving it so far. Haven't really had any time to play with it yet though. Also planned to try out ADRHD but I'll see after I actually get to play around wth CM7 some more.
Tried it one day, but I wasnt really happy and had some reboots, so I switched to Sense3.5.

ROM Recommendation please?

I haven't rooted/modded in awhile. I used to just use CM7 when I first got the phone. I've gone through 3 replacements now and have yet to mod it. Can you guys recommend the best ROM for the specifics I'm looking for?
-Has to have wifi calling (this is a must i barely get 1 bar to no svc in my apartment)
-has to record in 1080
-has to have HDMI working
Please let me know which ROM you'd recommend? I'm tired of the stock always getting the black screen of death and the random reboots. Tmobile said they can't exchange it anymore. Thanks!

Weapon or Tsugi. Love weapon G2x because it is really stable amd has great toggles. Tsugi is great also but i really want the toggles.

Ran 2.3.3 eaglesblood for the longest and it was very stable, but I really like voodoo and the faux123 kernel for ota based roms kept freezing and rebooting my phone worse than the stock ROM/kernel and it took forever to reboot due to the cache rebuild issue. Then I tried RG2x MIUI and loved it but had too many bugs...plus MIUI has a bit of a learning curve to it. Now I'm on phoenixblood 1.4 with faux123 cm7 based kernel and so far everything is great. Only been a couple days but so far fast, smooth and stable!
If you don't care about overclocking or voodoo sound, then eaglesblood 2.3.3 based is very stable and fast.

I would also recommend one of the Eagle's Blood or Phoenix Blood Variants. Quick and stable. Good Luck!
Phoenix blood 1.4 no special kernels...
Yeah, I have tried then all and ever since nightly 201 from cyanogen...the CM 7 build have been the best

Get the one with the shoulder thing that goes up...
I've been using Weapon 2.6 since the day it was released. I also need WiFi calling.
Just install the LG cam 3.0 add-on and your set. I can also confirm that HDMI works nicely.
FWIW; I'v installed every iteration of Weapon as it was released. V 2.6 is the most stable for me.
I just got done trying the wajkui, and it worked pretty damn good. CM 7 worked pretty well for me too, and I have finally moved on to Bionix. It is all about finding which rom works best for you. Download a rom and try it out for a week, and flash another until you find what works. There are so many people who have made great roms, I am starting to get addicted to flashing one rom for a week and flashing another one the next week.
Bionix works really, really well for me and it's in active development. I've had good and bad experiences with Weapon, and I've also tried Tsugi and MIUI. So far Bionix has been the best for me. Good battery life, very responsive and most recently no random reboots.
If youre looking for straight style, go with MIUI. It looks great and theres plenty of very smooth themes out there I use a custom port called Singh-UI, its a bit more stable.
If youre looking for more customizations, go with CM7 Nightlies or Phoenixblood
I have tried all but right now I think the best two are Singh or WajkIUI both are MIUI ports.

Phoenix Blood is what I am using now. Was using Weapon because I thought no other ROM could match it's battery life and stability. This was after trying MIUI ports, CM7, etc. Phoenix Blood is stable, smooth, and I EASILY get a full day out of it with pretty heavy use. But, it all depends on what you are looking for, stylistically I mean.
Phoenix blood runs great on my phone, with very few bugs, it also gets frequent updates
I've only flashed CM7S, so i can't compare it to anything. I figure if it ain't broke, don't fix it! But I'm using CM7s latest nightly with faux123s CM OC/UV v0.4.8 kernel. I like all themes there are for CM7. Oh, and of course the great performance and awesome battery life I'm getting is good too. Best thing to do would be, backup and flash a new ROM every week or so and see which is better
