Engadget reported that the N900 and PalmPre have PS3 jailbreak apps, where you can connect it to your PS3 via USB and jailbreak it to allow for homebrew apps and stuff. Anyone know of anybody working on a port or version for Android?

idk if your G1 will work... It sounds like it needs a device with Clockwork and a CM ROM. I'm going to look into it more before I attempt to jailbreak my PS3, but from what I have read, the latest firmware update (out this week) will overwrite the exploit and re-imprison the PS3.

I was trying to look when I had time at work, but if the G1 has the MSM72K USB controller it should work, but i've not had time to find out if it does. But the USB jailbreak hardware that this software is based off of, would prevent the PS3 from updating to the new firmware. You only need to update the firmware in order to go online to use those features of the PS3. If you don't play online or do online stuff with it (like me) you don't HAVE to update the firmware that Sony sends out. So if the G1 has the MSM72k USB controller we should be all set. I'm pretty sure as well that there will be an update to the jailbreak software to get around the new firmware update soon. I don't think it would NEED clockwork or CM, just that who ever it was that got it working was using that setup. I'll be home in a few hours and will experiment a little and see what happens. If it don't work on the G1, i'll try it on the Moto Cliq (may have the usb controller). And if THAT don't work i'll wait for the HTC Vision to hit T-Mo and try it with that..hehehe. worst comes worst, i'll find a used N1.
Too bad playstation released a update for these things, there surely on top of their game!
If I were you, I wouldn't want to forgo the sony updates, as they are often times feature enhancing like the 3D support that's being added later this year.

this app is so cool and you can literally jailbreak your ps3 with a tooth brush and slipper
as long as you have not updated
is this posible JAILBREAK with the new TRUE BLUE metod??
Sony has been on top of their updates lately cause there are a ton of people out there that use the jailbreak just to cheat at online play with alot of games especially COD! I liked to use it just so I could copy all my games onto my hdd I've got a 1 TB drive in there but it's mostly the little punk kids that cheat and hack games cause they suck so much at playing them. Its pretty pathetic really what's the point of cheating? It doesn't make you a better player just lazier!

PS3 Jailbreak
hii friends,
i need ps3 jailbreak 4.83 version
I just wanted to know if anybody has tried using a bluetooth keyboard and mouse setup. I am interested cause i think this phone would be amazing to use as a 'pc' just like the evo especially since we can hdmi mirror natively and i have verified that using droid overclock to change lcd density works.
I am absolutely DYING to know if this works. My entire life is on my phone and it would be so wonderful to connect a keyboard and mouse and put the hdmi out to my tv. cmon, this has to work. how can the evo do this and i can find nothing, absolutely nothing anywhere on doing this with the g2x?
find it very hard to believe that with all the people on this forum we cant get an answer for this very simple question. Someone please assist.
i have a bt mouse at home. i'll check this evening..but somehow i doubt it... the keyboard SHOULD work tho.. but I don't have one.
I think it's likely that you will need an additional driver to use a bluetooth mouse and keyboard. Search in the market for "bluetooth keyboard driver."
I know Teksoft has an HID driver for Android that is supposed to allow keyboard/mouse input. Its called BlueInput....here...
http://www.teksoftco.com/index.php?section=blueinputandroid
I don't know if/how well it works on our device. I only know it exists. If someone wants to try it and report back I would be interested in knowing too. This could save me from hauling my laptop to work every night.
Hope this helps...
I was in bestbuy and tried the motorola BT keyboard that they market for their android tablets. I kept getting an error on my device while pairing. said, "problem with pairing. please make sure the password on device is ******"
the *'s are always random numbers. I would really like to get this to work. gahhhh
Passwords are usually 0000 or 1234 for most devices, but if not you're screwed and need documentation. I'm going to be ordering a bt keyboard/mouse for my atrix cuz I hacked the webtop on it so I don't need the dock, hopefully input devices work without....
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Oh wait, I realized what you're talking about, bt 2.0 uses different password methods.... Back from spacing out, you should be able to click yes that they do match and likely out will attempt to connect.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
welllll. there is no option to say yest they match. the password changes everytime i try to pair. So yeah, still no definitive answer on whether or not the G2X supports bluetooth hid. how is this so FFFKKKKNNNN hard to find?!
Bump. any help please?
Is this something i need cm7 for? do i get mouse pointer like the evo had in cm6? im so confused please help
There definitely have to be more of us that want to see this become an easy task. im sure many would benefit from this. I know i would love to be able to take all my work notes on my phone without using my thumbs for pages and pages of notes. any ideas folks?
I think the stock rom doesn't support it. I couldn't get my wiimote to pair until CM.
Probably the same deal. I'm sure CM has support for those profiles.
Thanks so much for the input. I've been trying to get the wiimote to work too? Any feedback? Using nexus aosp by faux.

So I've pretty much replaced my laptop with my transformer. Yea my laptop has a 17 inch screen, but to be honest with you its so big I never wanted to take it anywhere! Isn't a laptop supposed to be PORTABLE? I feel like I can (and should) take the TF everywhere. It seems tiny when docked, but just right when used as a tablet.
I love it.
The only thing stopping me from selling my laptop at this point is that I need to burn CD's occasionally. Is there any app out there that can access an external burner so that I can make CD's from music I have stored on my external drive?

Probably more a matter of time, at least if there's interest in it, but might be a long time. Didn't Honeycomb just add USB host support? I don't think it would've been possible before that.

Not necessarily at all, not all manufacturers provide Linux drivers for their hardware (Android is linux underneath it all). As well, I'm not sure exactly how Linux drivers work, but each CD burner might need their own set of drivers
If the iso drivers are in the kernel, the system will know about cd/dvd disks and drives. The issues is a program to do the burning.

So I plugged in my external DVD writer, and the kernel currently is not reconigzing it.
So that is step 1, someone adding the drivers into the kernel.
After that, it is simly a matter of re-building cdrecorder and mkisofs for an ARM target and writing a little UI on top of it.

I would dust the laptop back off......There are not enough devs or support for at least another 2 yrs to have a bug free Android OS. Also you have the first model of about 15 major tabs in the next 2 yrs! Just because it has a docking station means nothing. Don't get me wrong i love Android.....but leaving windows 7 and coming up 8????? Not to mention all the bugs because its a "beta" product. Actually i wouldn't even call this Alpha..Android OS should of release a GOOGLE laptop first with all the correct hardware specs and almost bug free before letting anyone put there OS on a tablet and sell it...Every Honeycomb tablet that has been made has issues. And its the hardware not being fully compatible.

It wouldn't take much to make android completely replace a full size os.

If you replaced android with another operating system on your post, that can apply to any OS system on the planet. Be it windows, osx, Linux or what ever a company puts out. Not one OS or hardware is immune. Perfect software only happens when it's on the drawing board. The longer android is out the better it gets..but honeycomb has been out a very short time and is only on 5 percent of the devices running google OS. There are more then enough developers for it.
I'm looking for an external dvd burner to work with the TF also. Seems like a lot of TF owners are looking too. Hopefully someone with xda will develop the software...
Not exactly what you want but it might help
Check out this product.....It adds an extra step and it would be kinda kludgy at best.......It is a standalone cd burner.
http://www.cyberguys.com/product-details/?productid=11177
They also have a DVD burner. There may be others out there as well. I have been wanting this as well and don't really want to spend extra to get the capability right now at least.
Awesome! Definitely a solid solution. And a great idea in general! Thanks for the info

technically you don't need any of those things you listed to burn a cd in linux, all you need is the command line.

I don't think he's looking to reboot into a full-blown Ubuntu environment (where nothing else works) just to burn a DVD... The whole point of this thread is to get Android-native tools to do the burning - not setup some half-working OS to do the task...
I don't see what the Unix "cdrecord" and "mkisofs" utilities can't be ported over to Android. Although, I don't have the skills to do that, so maybe it's not such a trivial task...

Hello everyone! I am sure that every Android gamer is aware of the awesome new product from Power A known as the Moga controller. If not you can check it out here at the Power A website. Basically it is a controller that attaches onto your Android device to allow for endless gaming possibilities. Actually, scratch the part about "endless gaming possibilities." The possibilities are NOT endless because Power A decided to limit Moga compatibility to games only officially supported by Moga. Even worse, you need to have the official "Moga Pivot App" from Google Play installed AND running in the background WHILE you play the game. There is a huge problem with this setup: many apps that are not being developed any more may NEVER get Moga support. For example, every emulator app by yongzh hasn't been updated in months. The last time his N64 app was updated was sometime in July. Every other emulator app hasn't been updated for more than a year, so I think we can assume that he has stopped developing. So here is my request: make an app that is similar to Sixaxis Controller that would allow us to use the Moga gaming controller on any app with bluetooth controller support. I don't think it would be too hard to pull off. If this could be done, it would truly make the gaming possibilities endless for Moga. Otherwise, this device is useless to me.
I've been working on reverse engineering the connection tonight since it doesn't just advertise itself as a HID device. I've got the initialization/ping/flush commands figured out and have the response data figured out, too. Tomorrow night I'll start working on writing an IME that translates everything into nice, standard events.
Stay tuned!

Awesome! I just got this as a gift and was sorely disappointed with the closed ecosystem it introduced. I was sad that i might have to return it since it felt nice in the hand. If you managed to get this working that would be so awesome! Ill be looking out for your fix.
Great work ObsidianX, it really annoys me that they didn't implement this controller as a standard bluetooth HID device.
I was actually considering ordering one until I saw the reviews that pointed this out. I still don't know if I would want to order one if you/the community figure out how to make it openly compatible - it should have been that way in the first place! Then it could work with PCs/Laptops/other devices too... that's actually what I like about the look of this controller - close the folding arm and you have a decent looking regular controller that could be used with anything, unfold it to attach your phone and it works there too... It would have been awesome, but that's not what they made it to be.
Still I look forward to following your efforts and might consider ordering one if it does end up working out well enough!
~Troop
Oh man that's great to hear, I have one of these and being restricted to like five apps out of the 30+ I own is annoying. I just want some emulator support really..
Put me on the list that would be HUGELY grateful if you made a workable hack.
It's working
I'm going to clean it all up and put it up on Play hopefully tonight but by tomorrow, for sure.
Nice! Awesome news. I'll be on the lookout to give it a DL and let you know my results.
Can't wait to actually USE this Moga controller.

Would be nice if you could also mod it the other way and have Native USB controllers (I.E dualshock3 or X-box pad) seen as a MOGA controller to the pivot app. We could then have full on game support (with no on-screen controls) from the likes of Gameloft, E.A for normal NICE controllers which have more of a pedigree. Why pay $50 for a cheap controller with triple A battery's when you could get one of the best controllers ever made for half the price and have it function the same if not better.
PS - If people are only interested in the clip here is a better idea - Gameclip and SIXAXIS

Great work on the app OP!
On a slightly related topic...
The MOGA site lists Dead Trigger as one of the supported games for the controller. I've not been able to get Dead Trigger to work with the stock app or the app from this thread.
Has anyone else had any success getting Dead Trigger to work, and if so, how did you do it?
Thanks
EDIT: I used the key mappings in this post along with the app in this thread and Dead Trigger is working pretty well.
I have a feeling this thread will be getting more popular in the next few days.
bought one from the sale, so stoked to find this thread. Many many thanks to the OP.
Got the freebie in the mail. Seems I can run it fine for a few minutes on either the nexus 4 or 7, but then it starts to lose accuracy. Playing an fps, where once I could look up in a controlled manner, it gets to the point where trying the same amount of motion on the sticks makes me look at the sky. Ideas? Both stock rooted. 4 on 4.2.1, 7 on 4.1.2.
Using pivot app. Will try universal app as well.
Sounds cool, is this like a game center?

I think the thread title gives a pretty good idea of my question. I ordered a raspberry pi, and I would like to use my tablet as its display while I play with it. I found several apps that do what I want, but they only run on windows or osx. iDisplay is one of them, and it definitely does run over usb. I think wifi is probably going to be a bit too laggy for proper use. I've been trying various google searches but I'm not sure I've been using the right terms. So, has anyone heard of an android app that will do this?
