[REQ] Power A MOGA Game Controller Unofficial Games Support - Android Apps and Games

Hello everyone! I am sure that every Android gamer is aware of the awesome new product from Power A known as the Moga controller. If not you can check it out here at the Power A website. Basically it is a controller that attaches onto your Android device to allow for endless gaming possibilities. Actually, scratch the part about "endless gaming possibilities." The possibilities are NOT endless because Power A decided to limit Moga compatibility to games only officially supported by Moga. Even worse, you need to have the official "Moga Pivot App" from Google Play installed AND running in the background WHILE you play the game. There is a huge problem with this setup: many apps that are not being developed any more may NEVER get Moga support. For example, every emulator app by yongzh hasn't been updated in months. The last time his N64 app was updated was sometime in July. Every other emulator app hasn't been updated for more than a year, so I think we can assume that he has stopped developing. So here is my request: make an app that is similar to Sixaxis Controller that would allow us to use the Moga gaming controller on any app with bluetooth controller support. I don't think it would be too hard to pull off. If this could be done, it would truly make the gaming possibilities endless for Moga. Otherwise, this device is useless to me.

I've been working on reverse engineering the connection tonight since it doesn't just advertise itself as a HID device. I've got the initialization/ping/flush commands figured out and have the response data figured out, too. Tomorrow night I'll start working on writing an IME that translates everything into nice, standard events.
Stay tuned!

Awesome! I just got this as a gift and was sorely disappointed with the closed ecosystem it introduced. I was sad that i might have to return it since it felt nice in the hand. If you managed to get this working that would be so awesome! Ill be looking out for your fix.

Great work ObsidianX, it really annoys me that they didn't implement this controller as a standard bluetooth HID device.
I was actually considering ordering one until I saw the reviews that pointed this out. I still don't know if I would want to order one if you/the community figure out how to make it openly compatible - it should have been that way in the first place! Then it could work with PCs/Laptops/other devices too... that's actually what I like about the look of this controller - close the folding arm and you have a decent looking regular controller that could be used with anything, unfold it to attach your phone and it works there too... It would have been awesome, but that's not what they made it to be.
Still I look forward to following your efforts and might consider ordering one if it does end up working out well enough!
~Troop

Oh man that's great to hear, I have one of these and being restricted to like five apps out of the 30+ I own is annoying. I just want some emulator support really..

Put me on the list that would be HUGELY grateful if you made a workable hack.

It's working
I'm going to clean it all up and put it up on Play hopefully tonight but by tomorrow, for sure.

Nice! Awesome news. I'll be on the lookout to give it a DL and let you know my results.
Can't wait to actually USE this Moga controller.

Would be nice if you could also mod it the other way and have Native USB controllers (I.E dualshock3 or X-box pad) seen as a MOGA controller to the pivot app. We could then have full on game support (with no on-screen controls) from the likes of Gameloft, E.A for normal NICE controllers which have more of a pedigree. Why pay $50 for a cheap controller with triple A battery's when you could get one of the best controllers ever made for half the price and have it function the same if not better.
PS - If people are only interested in the clip here is a better idea - Gameclip and SIXAXIS

Looks like it's up! Enjoy, folks
(started an app thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1953647)

Great work on the app OP!
On a slightly related topic...
The MOGA site lists Dead Trigger as one of the supported games for the controller. I've not been able to get Dead Trigger to work with the stock app or the app from this thread.
Has anyone else had any success getting Dead Trigger to work, and if so, how did you do it?
Thanks
EDIT: I used the key mappings in this post along with the app in this thread and Dead Trigger is working pretty well.

I have a feeling this thread will be getting more popular in the next few days.

bought one from the sale, so stoked to find this thread. Many many thanks to the OP.

Got the freebie in the mail. Seems I can run it fine for a few minutes on either the nexus 4 or 7, but then it starts to lose accuracy. Playing an fps, where once I could look up in a controlled manner, it gets to the point where trying the same amount of motion on the sticks makes me look at the sky. Ideas? Both stock rooted. 4 on 4.2.1, 7 on 4.1.2.
Using pivot app. Will try universal app as well.

Sounds cool, is this like a game center?

Any UK retailers selling this?

I just saw jrioni arcade has been updated to work with 2.3.3 and the dev has added xperia play support.
Has anyone tried it yet to see if it is actually any good?

Do we finally have mame for Android, and better yet, for the xperia play?

It works. Setting up the buttons puts in a ? instead of the button name, but it works properly. The emulator will put up the virtual buttons until you press a gamepad button, then turns them off.

Excellent news. Robocop arcade version is one of my favourite games ever. Next to the Spectrum version (yes i did say Spectrum ) it is the best Robocop game ever made.
Can you report how well other roms work too please.
Also can someone post a link to the 0.35 romsets (or whichever ones are needed to work with this emulator)
Im waiting on a new bank account card. When i get it im making my first purchase this emulator and n64oid,
That will keep me busy for games for at least the next 3 months. Screw new games
finally got the passcode sorted ,
ive got 74gb of mame roms on my pc but there not the 035 set
so dont think they will work,
trying to find 035 set is proving pretty hard
http://chui.dcemu.co.uk/mame4all.html#GameCompatibilityList - i think game list is same. Mam4all have compatybility for mame 0.35 romset.
Yes, you need to look for a MAME4All romset.

For anyone buying this after the timestamp of this post, can you tell me if you got it ok? I'm continually getting server errors when I click on OK to confirm my purchase.

Wow, thanks for the heads-up...this thing plays Ghouls 'n Ghosts awesomely. It's a bit tricky to assign the buttons to the Play's hardware buttons but I figured it out...you have to press the back hardware button after clicking on the assignment (because it pulls up the virtual keyboard) and then press the hardware button you want it to be assigned to.

OnLive App working on Galaxy note

So i just got the new OnLive app and tried it out on the Galaxy Note.
While there is a small black bar going across the top, It actually works quite well.
I have included the Apk to anyone else who wishes to try it themselves.
I have played both Dirt 3 and Lego Batman. Both were more than playable with the touch screen, But I think with the universal joypad it would be even better.
My home screen on the app is really blurry for some reason. Got a fix?
That app is ******* awesome.... my Note might replace my xbox lol

I believe its your connection, It happened to my momentariely but was fine afterwards.
I can see this being the place where OnLive shines and makes it's money.
"Application not installed". :<
Any idea ??
I should have included that the service is only available in the US and the UK, Although I'm in Ireland and it works rather well.
I was able to get it working because I originally signed up for a US account with a VPN and then moved to the UK account when the launched it over there.
I do hope they launch in more places, But for now, Use a VPN to sign up and then you should be good to go.
UK usually means your whole little mini-continent.
FYI, sign up and download the app off the market place and you get Lego Batman for free. Tried Dirt and could not play it at all with the touch screen. Has anyone tried the SixAxis Controller app and got it working with this app at all? The annoying thing is is that I have an Online gaming system with a controller (managed to pick one up for free ) but I get the impression that it isn't the same as the new "Universal" controller that they'll be releasing so there's not way to sync that controller with my note
the sixaxis controller only worked for me on CM7 and MIUI on the SGS2, it did not work on stock roms so i expext the same on the note.
Well I've taken the dive and brought the SixAxis Controller app and it works with the Note as stock rom but rooted, though only managed to get it working with Onlive if I set buttons as keyboard buttons rather than game pad buttons, just means I'll have to adjust the mapping depending on the game unless someone knows how to get it working so I can have game pad buttons instead?
The app doesnt work on my Note, says " your internet connection is too slow"
Well you need 2-5 mbps speed I think. Ill try it out later in a wifi router with 5mbps and see if it works.

Bringing this old thread alive.
I've had a play on the OnLive app and it's really good. However, the games with touchscreen controls available are a bit rubbish.
Does anyone know of any controller options that are better than using a PS3 with the control mapping app as above, or using the OnLive universal controller? Both of those are too big for me.
I'm really surprised that the OnLive universal controller is so humongous. When they're aiming at being able to play on netbooks/tablets/phones, you'd have thought they'd make the controller nice and small!
I'm surprised that I can't seem to find some sort of innovative controller that folds up or something, ideal for carrying around.
Just tried a couple of games and can confirm that the touch controls are more or less useless. On dirt 3 you can't get passed the login screen as there's no way to press continue!!
And why why why does my note get extremely hot after just 5 mins of using onlive?? I know that most of the screen res is being used but considering that the cpu and gpu are being used on a remote server I don't see any reason why the note should be so overloaded.
work in progress i guess.
Wait and see ^^ but this app is a messy for future of android game
hey does anybody know when will onlive service be available in the rest of europe??? I live in switzerland and it doesn't work...my 'region is not supported' or something like that.
I would really like to see how this cloud gaming works. Oh and my wifi speed at home is almost always close to 30mbps download and 2.5 mbps upload...i have enough bandwidth.
It's work in wi-fi, the platform is very good, but it wants a large bandwidth. I create a guide on my blog to use it. I want the universal pad .
Darksiders is wonderfull: screenshot
still doesn't work on the phone....i can use it on my pc very well but when i try from the phone it says my region is not supported.

Skyrocket Appreciation

This phone is awesome. I have yet to see any posts showing interest in their phone, beyond changing ROMs like its a disease.
I recently found out I can use 'Six-Axis controller' to connect a ps3 controller to my phone and effectively have a portable n64 console with me. All I need to do now is find a Conker's Bad Fur Day or Banjo-Kazooie ROM.
I recently found out about LCD density changing and messed around with it a lot. 180 makes our Skyrocket look sexy. (But now I'm experiencing market compatibility issues so I need to look more into it).
I like organization, so SD-Maid was a nice find and I'm going to learn Titanium Backup to increase my battery life. Just need to find a freeze list.
I found the site My ColorScreen so theming will be a task soon undertaken, as soon as the necessities are figured out.
So come on, share some cool things about your phone. Whether it's a cool Llama task you made, new homescreen setup, an app you think people should know about, a ROM you like (AOKP + CM9, thank you guys), or an important tip you should know (I didn't know Titanium Backup could restore my folder settings in Nova Launcher, that would have saved time).
Be a little positive guys.
Why is it that an incorrect, naive post about an OTA update for Skyrocket can get two pages instantly full of people *****ing about how useless the thread is (then don't reply to it smartass).
While a thread with the capacity to help people find some cool things about their phone gets nothing.
I hear the app "LCD Density Modder Pro" can fix the market compatibility issues. It's a paid app though.
Any more info on the six-axis controller and how to use the phone as a "portable n64"? That sounds interesting!
Edit: Ah, a little bit of googling answered my question about that six-axis controller.. didn't realize it was an app. Makes sense now. Which N64 emulator do you use?
I don't root my phone but I love it to death! I also agree that negative posts get more responses than US news media stories.
That being said I love that flipboard app and I'm going to be buying a new Samsung LED TV. I've heard that we can turn our phones into remote controls for the actual TV, if not yet its on the horizon.
I also use mine for web browsing mostly and I'm looking for a cool app like MATLAB based or something that has Physics and Calculus formulas all over. I hope this thread gets going. Mad thanks to the OP. This is the first thanks I've used.

I currently have a Samsung TV, and it's true that we can use our phone as a remote control, as long as your TV has wifi and you connect your phone to the same network. You'll just need the app conveniently named "Samsung Remote" lol. It's free in the market. Works for their blu-ray players too I think.

Mupen64AE, pulled for free from the developers site here. You just run sixaxis and start the emulator, then map the buttons (less than 10 seconds) and you're good to go. Emulators were always a cool idea to me but they didn't translate well for certain games, but honestly with the analog sticks and actual triggers its a perfect experience.

[In Progress] Hacking the Optimum App for Kindle Fire

Cablevision recently released the full Optimum app with streaming capabilities, but it has only been released for the Kindle Fire. Since the Kindle Fire runs Android, it should be possible for the application to run on any other Android device. This thread will be the attempt at modding the Optimum application to work with all Android devices (2.3+).
Optimum App Download:http://www.mediafire.com/?169999r49rv15q9
Currently Known:
Application asks for root upon opening
Some devices can open and run the app successfully, but must log in and out every use. If not, data must be cleared for every use.

I have tried on my CM9 Evo and CM9 Iconia A500, and in both instances the application works (sometimes I have to wipe data, sometimes it works flawlessly).
The point of this is to modify the application itself, without touching the device files, making it work with almost any version of Android (Gingerbread and up because that is the Kindle Fire version).
So far, I haven't come up with much in the past few days. I'm still looking though.
Also, my thoughts on Cablevision:
I think Cablevision is actually one of the "good guys". They have cheap plans, fantastic service, and they really do want to help their customers. Their TV service is great, and it offers a lot of fantastic channel choices. The Internet is really good, as I always get at least 25 up/down with very low ping (I do enjoy gaming).
I don't like the fact that they haven't come out with a streaming application for Android yet, but it is obvious that they are making progress. I do like watching TV on my laptop, and it is nice to know that I can watch it on an iOS device if I ever get one again. The fact that they have an application for an Android device just shows that they are very close to a full Android release.
I changed buildprop values to resemble kindle fire. It didnt work on my SGS3 stock ICS neither on my toshiba thrive stock ICS

Nice to hear! I love working for them. I used to work at Comcast but I lived in cable vision territory so I thought why not do the same job and get free service lol. They are definitely putting for effort in trying to offer the same experience for both iOS and android. I've been bugging them since I started and I might pursuit the development side. I have tried using this stick for a couple days and I think it has some potential, but the interface is horrid. I'd like to start a discussion about how to modify, root, or at least find some apps that can help make this a better media option.
Anybody else got one yet or that can point me in the right direction?
It comes preloaded with 4.0.1, plex and the ability to sideload apps, so it should be pretty straight forward

What about a custum 4.2 update? would be great with the multiply account function for tv of the familie :good:
Since there is a usb port, does it come with drivers for a computer? And is it stock android with favi's hand picked apps/ui on it, or forked kinda like a kindle?
I just ordered one of these with the keyboard. I should be here on Monday. I am curious to see how this thing works out. I just want to use it for Netflix and HBOgo. Everything else will be a bonus. I will write a small review after I get my hands on it.
I saw this last night. It looks interesting but one of the few reviews on YouTube was horrendous. Nothing worked right. But then again the guy doing the review could be an idiot. I'm kind of thinking the latter is true.

I like the concept of multi-account. I am not sure the 4GB version I ordered could handle too much data (I believe there are duplicates of apps when using muti-account in 4.2, is that true?). Regardless, I think the 8GB version would be better setup to handle that.
In the last week, I haven't used the stick at all. that is partly due to being busy, but also having a bad taste in my mouth from my initial use of the stick (lack of usability) and being really frustrated with force closes, poor responsiveness and having to switch out HDMI cables to use it because I have too many devices connected and not enough HDMI inputs on my TV...but I digress.
I see that the XBMC Frodo Release Candidate 1 has been released http://xbmc.org/download/
my plan is to drop that on the smart stick this weekend (via the USB thumbdrive, I assume) and see how well it can handle it. My hope is I will get 1080 output, the new audio engine, PVR support and other nice goodies in the latest XBMC development and when it is stable and working well, to be able to grab my current XBMC user options folder and drop it into the stick.
Then I will have all my favorites, subscriptions, local network music/tv/movie folders, etc easily ported form my ATV2 iOS XBMC to the smart stick android XBMC....
I will report back and would like to hear if others have tried something similar.
I will follow this thread. Very interesting thoughts.
Do you know if you can control it with your phone/tablet?
Would be awesome to make my Nexus 7 into remote!

you can control the stick using the Google TV remote app
Cool, thanks.
Do you have any idea if you can get a Google TV remote .apk somewhere? It's not available in my Danish Play store.
EDIT: Or maybe this one is viable? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.entertailion.android.remote
Able Remote..

The reviews I have seen haven't been the best. I love the idea of this, but maybe its a little under powered. There are other ones out there that have dual core processors. According to Amazon, mine will be here on Monday. If its not up to the task, I might try one of the other ones which have dual core processors.
Ok, so it came early, and I was able to get it hooked up. I have been playing with it for awhile, and my initial impressions are not good. I don't know if it is lack of oomph with the processor, or terrible software, but this thing is barely usable for my needs.
I did download the googletv remote app. It works pretty well. Occasionally, it loses connection, but overall it works fine.
Initial setup is pretty painless. After getting everything up and running, I downloaded netflix and hbogo. Neither work very well. Netflix takes a long time to load and there is terrible lag. After a few minutes, it seems to get better. Because the app is made for tablet/phone, it doesnt work nearly as well with a tv, because of the lack of a touch screen to scroll with. It becomes an exercise in patients to get what you want on this app. The search feature works just fine, but for general browsing, it really isnt very good.
HBOGo is much worse. With big series such as the sopranos, it overwhelms the unit and things almost completely freeze up. There was no way to select any episode because of all the lag. I did a movie to load, but the resolution was subpar and the video is choppy. I have full bars and the Favi is right next to my router. HBOGo works flawlessly on my phone or tablet, but on the TV, it is really bad.
I love the idea of this thing, but i don't see me holding onto this unit very long. It really is a slow pile of junk at this point.
Unfortunately your experience sounds exactly like mine. I am wondering, hoping that the XBMC implementation may do a better job as it may utilize few resources

I'm wondering if something like this might work better.

Upon reading more about the one from laptopmag.com, it comes rooted out of the box. and apparently although it cant reach 1080p resolution natively, some have been able to do so with custom roms, and being only 5 bucks cheaper makes it alot better. Thanks for those links!

720p is good enough.
I am looking at the last link I posted. The MK802 III. It has a 1.6ghz processor where the first link is only 1ghz.
Edit: Just saw the mk802 II on amazon for $37
I should have looked at reviews before I bought this thing, what a pile of crap... It's really terrible, so damned slow. I don't remember even my OG Droid being that slow at 1ghz, and it only had 256mb ram... I'd love to see it rooted with overclocking and CM10.1...
Ok, I've been playing around with this thing. I disabled all apps and processes which aren't necessary.
Stock Browser is terrible. I downloaded Opera and Chrome and they work better, but not great.
Youtube app works really good. No lag, high quality video and sound.
HBOGo is terrible on this thing.
Netflix takes a little time before it works, but it seems to be pretty good. After the videos load (which take too long), it has worked pretty flawlessly.
I uninstalled googletv app once my wireless keyboard came in. The googletv app worked ok, but was buggy. the wireless keyboard works much better.
Its still a little disappointing and a little unstable, but with some tweaks, it might be OK in the future. They have released a rooted access build. The bootloader is locked, so this will limit development. Because this thing was so cheap, I might hold onto it. I have been debating keeping it and hoping it gets better, or sending it back and buying MK802III. I have until the end of January to send back, so I will continue to play with it for now.

Its under general support and its sticky at the top.
Well I just picked up the mk802 iii from Amazon for $69. The 1.6ghz proc. and 8 gig of storage. I should have it tomorrow. I will let you guys know. I could have gotten it cheaper but I didn't want to wait for it to ship from China.
