samfirmware said "do not flash i9003 rom on i9000"
Am I the only one who read rules, only one who notices its for DIFFERENT PHONE and only one to understand it should be posted in nexus forum?
opps, I had missed out that part "DO NOT FLASH I9003 ROMS ON I9000", so excited while spotted new fw release....
why they posted it in i9000 firmwares ?
YEAH!!!
Check the launch site:

I see all the same.
Except the "super-clear" LCD. Really? Super Amoled - Super clear LCD?
Enjoy the best viewing experience with 4 inch SUPER CLEAR LCD display. You can watch your favourite content in broad daylight and enjoy a crisp, clear picture. And, with 1 GHz processor, 16 GB internal memory, and Wireless Tethering, you have the speed, space, and access you need to stay connected wherever you roam.

All the other stuff is the same asi in i9000.
Did you found something else?
they replaced the SAMOLED with SLCD
That's what samfirmware posted about it:
The existence of Super Clear LCD in Galaxy S’ new variant I9003, has now been confirmed.
Thanks to listing on Samsung’s website, we now have an official confirmation that the GT-I9003 will be known as Galaxy SL and features a 4-inch Super Clear LCD (WVGA) and a higher capacity 1650mAh battery, like the Galaxy S 4G. A bigger battery has also made the Galaxy SL a bit thick, which is 10.59mm as compared to I9000’s 9.9mm and heavier than the Super AMOLED variant by 12g.
Rest of the features remain the same.

There's a massive difference. According to GSMArena, the new phone has 478 MB of RAM available to the user. Now that would be nice to have.

Does this mean what I think it means? That our original galaxy S never had 512MB of RAM? Either that or the I9003 has more than 512MB RAM.

It was had been discussed many times: Samsung Galaxy S do have 512 mb ram but shows only 339, and those of Samsung devices which show more (like Tab), just have more (640 mb) physical ram.

You miss the point entirely. The I9003 Galaxy SL is listed as having the same 512 MB RAM. So why does it have 478MB of user accessible RAM.
One explanation could be that the Humming bird requires more dedicated RAM (hence not accessilble to the user) while the other CPU's dont. That will also explain why the nexus S (again 512MB RAM and hummmingbird processor) has only 339MB user accessible memory
You miss the point entirely.

And so is Galaxy Tab. Advertised as 512 mb, in fact has 640 mb.
this is a downgrade.. read the review on gsmarena.
they are switching to slcd because hey dont have enough supply of super amoled and need them for other customers and new galaxy s2.. but they still want to keep selling a version of this phone.
the phone is also heavier and thicker.. with a slightly larger battery to make up for the poorer performance of the different led.

OK, got your point. But why would a manufacturer specify less than Actual RAM for any device. If a phone actually has 640MB of RAM. Isnt it bad advertising. I would be more inlclined to buy a phone if if it has 640 MB RAM
This phone makes no sense,it uses a ti omap 3630+SGX530 SoC instead of the usual hummingbird and SGX540. I see no reason why it should be called a "galaxy s" phone as it seems to share nothing other than the body design. Why no hummingbird, isn't the 530 a downgrade in comparison to the 540 gpu?
source:-
GSMarena review ( cant post links yet)
The CPU is different as well. It comes with a 1GHz TI OMAP 3630 instead of a Hummingbird CPU.

Shoot me if Im wrong but the difference in user available RAM doesnt depend on the the cpu but on the separate GPU. I suspect that the gtx540 (contra the gtx530) uses dedicated and a portion of shared RAM just like many computer GPUs and Im not one bit surprised that its constant beacause dynamic RAM distribution didnt appear before windows 7 x64 for an example (again, shoot me if im wrong , please do). Furthermore I think the main reason gingerbread makes the nexus s UI more fluid than the Galaxy s is that it is hardware accelerated and Froyo isnt.

I guess, that it should be 512 MB RAM, video memory excluded... any factual info?
it should be exactly the same as the Galaxy S phones so if you look that up you'll have your answer.

The Galaxy Tab is(was) advertised as being equipped with 512 MB RAM... just (un)like the SgS family.
I would appreciate factual answers - preferably with screenshots - instead of generic blah blah.
I would like to know this as well.
How much of visible RAM is there on the nexus S?
346MB is visible to userspace (MemTotal in /proc/meminfo).
The hardware has 512MB of ram which is shared between Linux, carve-outs for the a/v hardware, the baseband, and shared memory between the baseband and Linux.

An unexpected type of shootout between completely different products, but fun to read anyways. Not prefect since it is done on paper specs and not actual hardware:
http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/38491/lg-optimus-vs-nintendo-3ds
Bad review , author has no idea what he is talking about , this phone does not have 4 gigs of RAM. It has 8 gigs of internal storage SSD and 512 MB of RAM.
Winner: LG Optimus 3D1GHz Dual-Core OMAP4, 4GB RAM, SGX540 GPU (LP DDR2)loser: Nintendo 3DS2x 266MHz ARM11 processors, 64MB RAM, PICA200 GPU

Does this device really have the SGX540? The same GPU as the Galaxy S?
If it does, wouldn't that mean that there really won't be much improvement over the Galaxy S for single-threaded applications(seeing as, besides the 3D-ness and extra core, the specs are quite similar)? Are most Android apps/games/emulators/N64oid single-threaded?

The omap 4 is paired with an overclocked version of the sgx. If you check a thread on smartphonebenchmarks.com it will show the comparisons for the 2 different phones. As of now the overclocked version doesn't make a big difference until newer games are released that require more power. It gives the phone more life in terms of hardware . I would link but my g1 doesn't have the ram to save the state my apps are in. The g1 requires a full restart of apps which is inconvenient.

Hi Guyz I am from India looking for a new phone within 10-12k INR ie about 200-250 USD. By doing a little bit of research for 5-6days i have narrowed my choices to a few phones.
Dell XCD35
LG Optimus One
HTC Wildfire
HTC Wildfire S
HTC Explorer
Samsung Galaxy Fit
Samsung Galaxy Ace
Please Suggest me which one of the following will be a good choice for me. First things first I should be able to install apps in Memory card. I think we need to root the device for it if i am not wrong (Please clear this doubt for me). Second the device should be choppy or laggy in terms of gaming too ... !!! If i get Android i will definitely play a lot of 3d Games.
HOPING TO GET MY DOUBTS CLEARED SOON !!!
Going by the list of phones you are looking at, i would recommend 1 phone and take 2 into concideration.
Recommended:
Samsung Galaxy Ace
Alternatives:
HTC Wildfire S
LG Optimus One
There are essentialy 3 Factors that are important for you, they are:
Resolution -> a lot of apps simply will not install on phones that use 320x240 screens
CPU Clockspeed -> The Faster the CPU is, the faster applications like games will run
Amount of RAM -> The more RAM you have the better the phone will perform while multitasking
All of the phones you have listed are essentialy either older, and/or lower specced entry level phones. All of them are using older CPUs (ARM11 / ARMv6) and most of them are clocked at 600 MHz or even lower like The HTC Wildfire (528 MHz).
The exception here is the Samsung Galaxy Ace clocked at 800 Mhz, so it has the fastest hardware and should be the fastest out of all of them for gaming.
A lot of the phones you have listed have fairly little RAM by todays standards, often times only 256 MB
While the Galaxy Ace has 384 MB of Ram, the Optimus One and the Wildfire S both have 512 MB of Ram, but a slower 600 Mhz CPU.
IF you chose a phone with more RAM over the Galaxy Ace's faster CPU, i personaly would go with the Wildfire S, as it has superior build quality and is better supported by custom roms.
So the choice is essentialy yours:
Galaxy Ace
------------------
3.5 Inch Screen
800 Mhz CPU => Gaming
384 MB RAM
Wildfire S / Optimus One
--------------------------------------
3.2 Inch Screen
600 Mhz CPU
512 MB RAM => Multitasking
According to your requirements, you should go for Galaxy Ace. It's really a nice smartphone with mind blowing features. It can also provide you a nice gaming experience. I am personally using it an loving it a lot.
And this is not always necessary to root the device for installing apps on memory card. But in some cases, it is necessary (if manufacturer has programmed the device to download apps directly to phone memory). When it comes to rooting, then rooting is just like jailbreaking in Apple. A rooted android device breaks the limitations that are applied to it either by manufacturer or carrier. Following are some examples about What a rooted user can do:
1) Access the flash memory chip, which you need to do if you want to modify the Android OS or replace it with a customized version.
2) Make the apps on your phone run faster.
3) Remove pre-installed apps to free up space.
4) Turn the phone into a 3G/4G WI-Fi hotspot without paying an extra fee.
There are also many other reasons for rooting. But these are the most popular ones.
So HTC Wildfire S or Samsung Galaxy Ace is it ..... Can any1 tell me how much of a diff. does 200MHz make in gaming. I mean is it noticable ????

Well, in this case it is a speed increase of 1/3 or 33%, just imagine how much higher your PC CPU would be clocked if it was 33% faster.
Go with the SG Ace
If you are willing to install custom roms, I bet the wildfire S can be overclocked to run at a higher mhz.

You're wrong Dude,Galaxy S I9000 has 512 of RAM 1xx of it ram is used by the emulator that's why It has 3xx o ram user avaible,But the our galaxy SL I9003 It has a 650 MB of RAM so 487 of RAM avaible for users
I have a sg sl and the original.
Gt i9003 is better than the original one because of the cpu is faster, battery life is better and camera quality and the gpu isn't that bad, I got 14.4 fps on nenamark2 faster than xperia play by 0.3 fps but the s has a better gpu so if you are a gamer, the S is better although I recommend paying little more to buy the galaxy R
Spec-wize S Plus beats them both but development-wise Galaxy S wins

When I was searching new phone for me (almost 1 year ago) it was 3 parameters of the selecting i9003:
1. I compared 2 phones and I liked more the sharpness of the LCD display and more natural colors.
2. The price of i9003 was lesser
3. In the shop with the best prices there wasn't i9000 and I should wait for a week or 2 to take it.
Hi All,
Been seeing a lot of china phones running the MTK6577 + SGX531 and was wondering if anyone had any real performance figures on any of these devices, particularly those with screen resolutions greater than 800x480.
There are a lot of knock-off phones running this however there are some china-branded phones sporting them as well.
Ive seen some threads surrounding haipai devices that are running this SoC, however they only seem to have 512MB RAM and WVGA screens (albeit the screens are quite large physically).
I was wondering if there were any phones running MTK6577 with 1GB RAM and a 960x540 or better yet a 1280x720 screen?
I understand that they are cheap and would like to know if they represent 'bang-for-buck' at all?
Well depends who makes it ...xiaomi is great got the mi-1 going to get the two ... look at fastcardtech.com for xiaomi mi-2

we need an a chinese phone section.
Just got my Amoi n820, trying to figure out how to root it.
Anyway Antutu score is about 5400+ ? its actually a pretty decent performer
It appears that there is an S3 knock-off that has a 1GB RAM and a 1280x720 screen which is pretty decent.
I have also found a "Hero H9500+" which is essentially a Zopo ZP900 but with only 512MB RAM and a 5.0MP camera (8.0MP would be better but ahh well).
Still for less than $200 it has a 5.3" QHD 960x540 screen. Havent been able to find any video demonstrations of it however.
It would be awesome to have a 5"+ phone with 1GB RAM and a 1280x720 screen. I think we will see them soonish.
I understand that MediaTek are bringing out a quad-core (i think its MTK6585?) later this year which should see quad-core china phones boom. The GPU is supposed to be the SGX544 which is used in TI OMAP 4 amongst other things.

Be very careful. Many shops advertise 1,2 Ghz but they do send you a 1.0 Ghz phone. Afaik there is no 1.2 Ghz variant around.
I own one of the "1.2ghz" MTK 6577 and the fact that they have a sticker with "quadcore CPU" on it should tell you something about how the chinese advertise their products.
That being said i knew that i am buying a 1.0 GHZ dualcore phone and i am very happy with it. It's really fast and powerful enough to do some gaming if one likes to.
It's the Tinji I9300 S3 clone 4,7 inch. It's getting sold under all sorts of names aparrently.

Sorry it's my first android phone. Switching over from an iphone 4.
I don't know TW or AOSP.
Rooting went with a nice script and very easy (thanks to a nice thread on here).

Could you post some screenshots of the home screen and app drawer?

TW is TouchWiz (from Samsung Galaxy phones, look a screenshot of the home screen up on Google.) and AOSP is Android Open Source Project, and the design of that is found on the Galaxy Nexus (stock Android, no changes made to any icons.)
