goldcard for htc desire z - General Questions and Answers

am i the only one having a problem making a goldcard?
i've seached several threads here and several external links to how to make a goldcard all with slight variations but still cant get it to work.
i have used both a kingston mirco sd and a sandisk mirco sd to no avail..
i have tried using mmc0, mmc1(well mmc1 wasnt available) and mmc2, i copied out the numbers from the CMD, reversed them manually, replaced the first two-digits with '00', got the image from the website and did the hex editor thingy and confirmed it worked by removing it and putting it back into computer and phone without any error prompt to format, but still i cant get the downgrade to work. i always get the 'CID error, update failed' message.
im trying to downgrade my desire z from the OTA 2.3.3 to something that can be rooted following this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912, and i was hoping to try out this custom Rom, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216997 but it seems like my dreams wont come through coz of the goldcard issue.. :-(

we are on the same boat man! hirap amp!

try to ask here...
some already downgraded their units...
soon for my phone but still reading some stuff which rom to use

its so hard to root htc desire always cid installation failed

Hacking HTC Magic like breaking into fort NOX!!

I've spent the last few hours searching for the ways and guides on how to hack the HTC Magic and i think im about lost.
first of all i used to have the htc touch hd and it was as simple as running a program to get it to the right SPL then flashing it then throwing on a new ROM.
Now for the Magic i'm being told to put an image on an sd card the im told to make a goldcard but dont format the gold card? ive got the 8gb card that came with it! thats it.
im using windows 7 and ive tried to use HTC Sync but it wont detect the device.
ive gone in and updated the drivers with the ones that were recommended on here and still no detection
the device is a 32b
Radio 2.22.19.26I
hboot 1.33.0006 (SAP10000)
Australian Vodafone one
ive got no idea where to go from? what the hell do i do? i followed the guide here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Sapphire_Hacking
i assume the drivers did install correctly as i type ADB Devices in my cmd box and it comes up with my devices Serial number.
after that it tells me how to use adb and fastboot? why do i want to knlow this? i just want to be able to update the rom and be able to put whatever applications i want on it and change the startup screen as well as a heap of themes and the likes.
i guess basically what im asking is whats the easiest way to root this device? i dont know where to go from when ive adb'd the device...
ive no idea what rom to put on or what to do. also its a 1.6 in the info box when i check it. so im assuming its the donut version.
take it i need to get it back to 1.5 but im struggling to do this..
these guides seem awefully difficult...
To root the phone, I followed this guide: http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/29/how-to-root-the-htc-magic-in-one-click/
There is a link for Donut rooting also. Hope it helps.
you shouldn't have any issues with that spl, only that you have the vodafone au OTA donut
read up on one click - very quick and easy. you need to revert to cupcake before you can use flashrec though...
http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/29/how-to-root-the-htc-magic-in-one-click/
Htc Sync didn´t detect my phone either but i managed to hack it via goldcard procedure and i had a perfected spl 1.33.0014 32a device.
Now i got a rooted phone but Sync still doesn´t detect my phone and I´ve used 3 different PCs and different OSs - XP, Vista and Win 7.
i followed the one click. but it says to use htc sync which doesnt work. as im in windows 7 even with the updated drivers, with the goldcard thing i only have the sadisk card that came with the phone.
what i will try is turning the device into its boot loader and then runnning the RUU they supplied with the one click and see what happens.
just tried it with it in boot loader but usb isnt detected will try it with the actual phone on and see what happens
Edit: tried that also, still doesnt work just running the RUU file from unlockr.
I have a vodafone magic 32b with the 1.6 OTA upgrade. The guide on unlockr requires using a nbh file but the guide doesnt have a link to an nbh for vodafone only roger and it says that they couldnt find a vodafone one. I was also trying to use the relentless rooter but couldnt get it to work.
BTW are you using the newest version of HTC Sync because that is the only version that comes with the drivers for windows 7.
also do i need a specific RUU or anything? will the one i downgrade too the 1.5 be fine to use in australia?
i used this one

Hi
Try reading through this guide:
http://vivekgolecha.blogspot.com/2009/08/as-promised-i-said-i-would-come-up-with.html
Especially this part:
*Tip: If your computer says the drivers are installed but it is installing the wrong drivers, I recommend Uninstalling the drivers using this program, USBDeview, then plug the phone in again and choose the correct drivers in the SDK USB Drivers folder
Click to collapse
The drivers are in C:\AndroidSDK\usb_driver or similar path.
The gold card method worked for me (I have an HTC Magic 32A), but I think I should point out that in step 13 of the gold card guide make sure that you choose Removable Disk under Physical Disk.
Here's also a guide to installing proper drivers:
http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/06/how-to-set-up-adb-usb-drivers-for-android-devices/
Good luck
EDIT: By the way the guide says that you have to have a spare microSD card, because after transforming the microSD card to a "Gold Card" it can't be used for anything else. This is not true. If you have an microSD card adapter (to be able to access it from your computer), just put it in your computer's expansion card slot and format it as FAT32. This way you don't have to have to microSD cards to go through the procedure. If you don't have an adapter and you instead have to microSD cards, you can format the gold card through the phone, once you've got it up and running again, making it a normal, fully-working microSD card again

I dont beleive that vodafone use the RUU because they are upgraded OTA but if they did it would have to be a vodafone branded version. What i think you need is a sappimg.nbh as i heard there is a version that will work for all magics, ill have a look and try find you one. BTW i can only post once every 5 mins as my account hasnt been chaecked by moderaters yet sorry.
thanks LayzeeDK ill try it tomorrow after work and let you know how i go.

You do that. I had a lot of trouble getting my phone flashed and rooted too at first, but after these steps you'll get the hang of it and it'll pretty much be a walk in the park next time
By the way don't waste your time on the one click method as it only works on a few certain SPL's.
Upgrade to the 1.33.2010 ENG SPL in the guide and you can flash most ROMs using fastboot and Amon_RA's Recovery ROM (if v1.5.2G doesn't work try v1.3.2 and v1.2.0). I wasn't able to flash and replace the stock recovery ROM until I upgraded to the 6.35.x Hero radio and 1.76.2007 SPL. If you can't either, you should still be able to use fastboot in USB mode to boot into Amon_RA's recovery ROM. Just place for example recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.5.2G.img in C:\AndroidSDK\Tools (or similar directory), turn off your phone, boot into fastboot by holding BACK and pressing POWER and connect your phone to your computer with the USB cable then type: fastboot boot recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.5.2G.img or whatever version you're using (in Windows cmd command prompt). The phone will reboot and boot into the custom recovery ROM. Remember to pull out the USB cable or you won't be able to access the SD card from within the recovery program.

Hm??? I've used "One-click" myself because I have PerfectSPL (still have - 1.33.0010; and I don't have second microSD for "goldcard" and no willingnes to do it) and I've read procedure twice just now but nowhere I see anything about HTCSync ( I have no Windows so it could be hard to use HT CSync on Linux ;P )
So what are You talking about when You mention "one-click"? dunno
the one click procedure is on www.theunlockr.com its just what they call their way to hack the phone, however it doesnt work due to windows 7 ill also contact google/htc to see if they can help get the sync sorted.
Yeah, right, I'm reading this same article 3rd time and I don't see HTCSense anywhere unless You are reffering to comments then good luck but comments is not the procedure.
PS: are we talking about this same article? http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/29/how-to-root-the-htc-magic-in-one-click/
HTC Synd v2.18 should be working with Windows 7, but here's a workaround:
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/08/24/workaround-for-htc-hero-sync-problem-in-windows-7/
And another guide to get USB connection working:
http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/06/how-to-set-up-adb-usb-drivers-for-android-devices/
So... How did it go?
i get to here
(wait for the it to show a serial number underneath, if it doesn’t then reinstall the drivers from section I). Then type:
adb shell
cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid
5. A code will display, write the code down (MAKE SURE TO WRITE IT DOWN EXACTLY!)
i get this
cat/sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid NOT FOUND
thats as far as i can get. i found another guide but it talks about having RC29 or RC7 to root the phone however i have DRC92
firmware 1.6, baseband 62.50S.20.17U_2.22.19.26I kernal 2.6.29.00479.g3c7df37

[Q] Flashed the wrong PG58IMG.zip

Very much a noob when it comes to Android phones and I have been working through the process to get a custom Rom on my HTC Sensation. I started following the instructions in this thread [Guide] to Installing S-off, Unlocking, ClockWork, Root, SuperCID & S-on and successfully completed step one, achieving s-off on the phone.
In step two things went badly wrong. Following the instructions I downloaded clockwork recovery and copied the PG58IMG onto my sd card, at least I thought I did. What I now realize is that since I had been doing a lot of reading and research on this topic before attempting it for the first time I had downloaded several relevant files in advance, one of which is the PG58IMG file from this thread [DEV] HTC Sensation & HTC Sensation XE firmware | Partitions Info | [01.03.2012 and it was this file that I put on the sd card. Obviously not what I should have flashed at all. Especially since it seems that the tool which would help me out of this mess is the one I just failed to install properly.
So the situation is that the phone loops constantly on startup when booting normally. When I boot into HBOOT with the SD card in it tries to update again and when that fails, gives no option but to reboot. If I remove the SD card then I get access to the following screen -
-Revolutionary-
PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-1.27.1100
RADIO-10.14.9035.01_M
eMMC-boot
and below the options -
HBOOT
FASTBOOT
RECOVERY
FACTORY RESET
SIMLOCK
IMAGE CRC
I have tried connecting the phone to my computer at this stage but I cant get FASTBOOT USB and adb cant find any devices either. Am I completely stuffed at this point? If not, if anyone can help me out with some instructions on what to do here I would be extremely grateful.
Thanks,
Webba
So have you tried to go into recovery once your in bootloader ? what happens then ?
If you get the correct files onto your sd card via a card reader, then put it in the phone, bootloader should attempt to update the new correct files.
I have tried going into recovery, it comes up with a pic of a phone with a green circle, followed by a phone with a red triangle, followed by going into the boot cycle. This is with the sd card removed. Am I right in thinking that if I get the right files onto the card and then run recovery with the sd card in it will work?
If you run BOOTLOADER then it should do... Make sure you remove the old PG58IMG before putting the new one on.
Thanks so much, I will try it as soon as I can. I assume I will find the right stock rom somewhere on these forums?

you will find anything and everything you will ever need on these forums
My Sensation was purchased in Hong Kong, after looking at the lists at shipped-roms this one - RUU_Pyramid_hTC_Asia_WWE_1.35.707.1_Radio_10.43a.9007.00U_10.51.9007.27_M3_release_198358_signed.exe
seems to be most likely correct. Can anyone more knowledgeable confirm this? I would hate to flash the wrong thing again.
did you successfully get superCID ? if so i do believe that you can flash any RUU / ROM
Im not 100% on this as im still new to the sensation myself, But im sure thats the whole point in having SuperCID
Unfortunately I dont have superCID. I was following the instructions pretty slavishly and the superCID setup is one step after clockwork
Is there a way to get superCID in my phones current state? From what I am reading I need it to at least hook up to adb which it is not doing at the moment so I assume I just have to get the right onto the sdcard to have any chance of it working, right?
Yes, You need clockwork mod before SuperCID. Have you tried to re download CWM and put it on sd card ? It could have just been a bad download, it happens to us all.
Download it again, Remove the previous PG58IMG from SD Card via a card reader (if you have one) Put the new PG58IMG on SD card. Pull battery out, Put SD Card back into the phone, put battery back in and boot into bootloader (volume down + Power)
Bootloader should automatically find the PG58IMG and ask if you want to update it, Select yes and theoretically you should be fine..
EDIT: Use this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=706572&d=1314848127
Yeah, I have re-downloaded CWM and made sure it is the right one I have to wait until the shops open here so I can pick up a micro sdcard reader but I will try the new CWM first, and if that fails then I will try the stock rom. Am I right in thinking that neither of this is likely to make the situation worse, even if they dont work?
No providing bootloader still works everything is fix-able..
We aint messing with bootloader so u will be ok.
Cant believe you dont have a card reader lol....
lol, up until today the only thing I needed to be able to read micro sd cards was the phone. Well, I will be better prepared next time anyway.
The thing that had me worried is that since I originally didn't realize PG58IMG was not a unique file name I am almost certain that the one on my sd card at the moment is not even CWM at all but one of the updated firmware ones I mentioned in the OP that I very stupidly mistook for it. It feels like a really serious mistake to make, but happy to know that if the boot loader is working then it should be fixable. I wasn't sure even about that.
I think the PG58IMG is a unique code that the phone reads and recognises as something to be flashed / updated.
Ive seen various things CWM / Firmwares / Updates with the same PG58IMG title. so maybe youre right and the original file you downloaded wasnt the correct one.
Dont panic, Keep calm, Ask questions, Get answers...... This is the only way to avoid a bricked phone
Yeah, you've saved me a lot of stress already. Ill be back in a few hours with the results of the next attempt. Thanks again!
Ok, the news is not great. I got hold of a micro sd adaptor so I could plug it into my computer and removed the old PG58IMG. I put the correct one (downloaded from this thread) on the sd card and rebooted the phone into HBOOT. It recognizes the file on the sd card but gets a cid fail and there is no option but to reboot which goes into the boot cycle.
Whats worse is that doing this apparently fries the sdcard. I tried it twice, because I am sucker for punishment and in both cases the sdcard is unreadable afterwards.
Maybe I should try and explain more clearly that I am now sure the PG58IMG that I first put on the card and flashed I am sure is the Firmware from 3.32.401.x & 3.32.401.10x RUU from this thread. It appeared to successfully update before rebooting the phone into its current state, causing me to realize I had the wrong file. I dont understand enough to know exactly whats going on but it seems pretty bad. Do you think I should try a 3rd sdcard with the Shipped ROM on it or is there something else I should do at this point?
Edit - The second sd card wasn't fried after all, but I am still searching for a shipped rom that isnt in .exe format, since the phone isnt connecting to the computer by usb at all right now. Anyone know where I can find one?
Edit - Ok, now I have fastboot usb which means I can use .exe shipped roms. adb devices cant find the phone though which means I cant superCID it which means I still have to find the right ROM. Since I brought the phone from HK I am trying all the asian ones first. Anyone know specifically which file at shipped-roms.com is the right one?
You flashed firmware for ics rom, so the stock rom won't boot and you have bootloop. If you flash the 3.12 firmware ( works for both ics and gb) that will resolve the loop and you will be able to continue with the guide and flash cwm.
Sent from my HTC Pyramid using xda premium
Hey Stringer7, do you mean this Firmware from 3.12.401.2/102 RUU available in the same thread? I will download it and give it a try.
edit - Gave it a try, I get CID incorrect from it too. Seems like CID incorrect for everything I try to flash atm.
What is your CID ??
Unfortunately I dont know. I didn't know I needed it before I started and now since the phone isn't talking to adb I cant use it to find out. All I know is that I bought the phone from Hong Kong about 6 months ago. Is there a way to check the CID with the phone the way it is now?

[Q] Soft bricked my phone - please help!

Hi,
I just bought a HTC One S ville - great phone, but wanted to try MIUI.
I got S-OFF, had rooted it using the standard guide and had
clockwork-touch-5.8.3.1 for recovery.
I flashed MIUI but during load, it would hang - the same with Cyanogenmod 10, even though
I followed guides.
I had a nandroid and could revert, but HBOOT i tried "clear storage", and then must trouble started.
Now I couldn't mount SD card in recovery, and I couldn't boot into MIUI.
I followed this thread to gain access to the SD Card:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1630459
But that didn't work since I can't reflash clockwork-touch-5.8.3.1 since I get remote: signature verify fail - maybe because
it's RELOCKED (?) - otherwise I might have been able to mount, butno luck.
As a last resort, I tried RUU, but gets connection error 170 on two PCs running Windows 7 - tried 5-6 times.
So, after 4 hours I'm fairly sad, I have no idea as what to do a part from retrying RUU. I had a Legend once, and it took me 20-30
tries to get RUU working on Windows 7.
Any help would be greatly appreciated since I'm about to give up for now ;(
I quick follow up - I resolved the problem by installing HTC Sync which I didn't have installed...
Hope this can help others.
Regards,
Fred
What hboot and carrier are you on, if not unlocked. Probably running the wrong ruu, or missing the drivers.

[Q] cid error even after creating goldcard

"RUU_Saga_HTC_Europe_1.28.401.1_Radio_20.28b.30.0805U_38.03.02.11_M_release_177977_signed" shows customer id error even after creating goldcard. I've tried 3 other RUUs but they all show cid error. I upgraded my phone to ics using "RUU_SAGA_ICS_35_S_HTC_Europe_14.01.401.2_Radio_20.76.30.0835_3831.19.00.110_release_275068_signed".
I wanted to s-off and for that i needed to downgrade my hboot from 2.00.002 to 0.98.0.000 to be able to use revolutionary. For that, I had to install gb RUU after using zerg_rush, misc version, etc( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399331 ). But I can't install RUU as it shows Customer id error even after creating a goldcard.
Can someone tell me what to do??

Try different sdcard,
are you sure the gold card has been made properly?

i got my gold card from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1248095&page=23
and i patched it using goldcardtool.exe
now i've tried 1 another sd card but again i got error 131[cid error]
1 question though. You should just install a RUU after creating a goldcard, right?

You should not forget to relock bootloader before flashing RUU
What version have you changed, the one on your device'to?
Perhaps you might push < misc_version > once again,
and change it to the version of RUU you intend to flash..
if that wouldn't help, I'd try to create a gold card from a different source...
There is even on the market, an app called < gold card helper >, 4
The whole procedure has been checked and sucessfuly acomplished by the users,
probably hundreds of thousands of times,
so, it realy is working,
it is just one of the components you've prepeared that is failing ( probably )..
If your device was rooted, zerg rush is not needed

Question about goldcards

Hi, I've made a gold are for a second desire s I got for free as it wont boot and have been trying to revive.
The card works as it should and bypasses the cid although I think the desire is beyond help as i cant flash the bootloader no matter what process i try, my question is about keeping the card for future use in other devices.
Once made and used can it be re used over and over in different devices with different files for those specific phones or do you have to remake the card each time its used for a different phone?
My other question is does formatting it mean you have to re make the gold card or does the hex edit remain?
Thanks in advance,
Steve.

I have tried every mothod going to try and flash that phone, it refuses to touch the bootloader.
Ruus won't even try cos it won't boot, official branded roms with the right cid the same android version give a same version error before it even tries to flash.
Different version roms that are right cid freeze on flashing bootloader be it in the form of a PG88IMG from SD or in fastboot.
And unbranded roms used with a gold card freeze on flashing bootloader.
The phone won't restart to bootloader from bootloader and any programs that try to restart the boot loader fail to managed it at the bootloader freezes with battery pull being the only way to shut phone down and try again.
When I got this phone from a friend it never booted past t-mobile screen and he says it just stopped working one day, its not keen messed with and as a result I think usb debugging was not enabled ether although fastboot does work for some commands strangely.
Basicly anything that trys to work with the bootloader gets told where to go by the phone lol
If it was s-off I could have used the work around from booting the o.s from the SD card but its not.
I think the emmc has corrupted from agressive multiple app updates from the marketplace and think its beyond help, I've spent hours trying everything lol. Now I just want to know if the gold card I made can be reused in other phones and what a format would do to the card.
