Hey folks,
I've been having a hell of a time getting my tf to connect to the pc via usb these last few days. No matter what I do it will not connect to any pc.
Drivers are installed fine and worked great in the past. The usb cable works fine with the charger and devices charges fine.
If I plug the USB into the pc and then into the TF the screen turns on, so it knows its there but refuses to allow communication between pc and tf on any computer I try.
In device settings USB tethering is greyed out and no matter what I try I cannot get it to allow me to turn it on. Shutdown, held button to reset, restarted pc's, notta.
I recently used NVFLASH to unroot my TF for an RMA that I never got around to doing. Now I want to root again but without the USB working I can't.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
No one else is experiencing this? Is my cord mucked? If so why does it still work for charging? Eeeeek! I'm freaking out here.

Is usb debugging turned on in the tf settings->application->development?
I have no idea what you're talking about with usb tethering in the settings...
Is the device being recognized by your pc? What operating system?
USB Tethering is greyed out on all TF's. If for sharing data service with another device and you dont have data service on the TF unless you have a dongle.
Have you tried putting into APX and checking. You don't boot the rom when using nvflash. Power / Vol + when booting
Yes, if you think about it Tethering is when you wish to pass your 3G connection be that either through SIM card or Dongle to another device.
If you don't have either a SIM Card with Data services (which you won't have) or a Dongle then it is only correct the Tethering option will remain greyed out.
Hey and thanks folks.
Neither of my PC's will detect my TF but both did just a few weeks ago.
Asus sync won't work either. In accounts/sync Asus sync is off and there is no way to turn it on. Don't know if this is normal or not.
I have USB debugging on but still it won't get detected. Restarted everything multiple times too.
I cannot enter apx mode however I had no trouble doing so before.
Like I said above i can still charge with my cord just no PC connectivity so I don't understand what's up.
As for USB tethering, when USB is plugged in it should allow me to select it (even though I don't want to) thus why I think the problem is related to the pad or cord not the PCs.
Thoughts?

This is not only annoying but it gets more and more confusing. I can connect my other Android devices to a PC and move files between the devices. I should be able to do the same with the Transformer and a PC.

Try new cable, the charging uses other pins/wires in the cable
Already ordered from ncix. Hopefully that's it or I'm out $45 with shipping.

Usb tethering is for sharing the data service on your TF. If you dont have 3g/4g service on your TF then it will not be available. Do you have a conflict listed in your device manager? I have had to reinstall the Asus suite twice at this point and manually remove the drivers from device manager

I've looked everywhere and cant seem to find an answer, so i figured i'd start a new thread.
My captivate used to connect to my computer just fine, but there was another computer it would just NOT connect too! Well, after a few months, it stopped connecting to my home computer as well.
I have USB debugging on, the phone is rooted and everything. When I plug it in and mount the USB drives, i get drives J and K on my computer, one for the internal storage, and one for the SD card i have in the phone.
When double clicking any of those drives, it just sits there and reads forever without ever doing anything. I can use the SDK to run "adb devices" and it see's the phone, Odin One Click finds the phone but freezes on reading file line, or just fails all together.
Any ideas?
Try reinstalling the samsung usb drivers and restart your computer, that'd be my first step.

You have to be on the touch wiz home screen if you're trying to connect to Kies, otherwise turn on USB debugging and you should be good to go

SeenNotScene: I've uninstalled, rebooted, re-installed several times. I've been having this problem for a couple months now and i've tried everything i can think of. It doesnt work
bkhams: I dont even know what Kies is? I always have USB debugging turned on, and once connected i bring down the drop down menu and mount the USB so i can access my phones files as if they were another drive.
I had the same problem, and Samsung peeps told me I had to use the USB cable that came with the phone, low and behold they were right. Connected right away with the USB that came with the phone, could that be your problem?
I had the same problem in the past and it was actually a hardware problem with the Captivate and not anything with the computer. I ended up taking the phone in and they exchanged it for me.
I do not know if yours could be having the same problem, but that was my experience. Frustrating, to say the least.
Hmm... Could be the hardware i guess.. I know its not the cable though because i've only ever used the cable that came with it.
Have you tried connecting to the USB port directly off the motherboard? My connections were "sketchy" at best when using the ports of the top of the computer case. Once I connected directly off the MOBO, zero problems since.
Sloved!

Thank you for suggestions! My front USB connector is probably connected to some internal HUB, not going straight to the motherboard and wont work. Connecting directly to MB USB solve the problem. I am a little bit surprised... but whatever - M$ bull*hits. I spend couple of hours yesterday to find out whats going on. Thank you again!
Do anybody know how to keep energized the USB ports of the dock while is closed???
I want to charge my phone via USB with my transformer stored in a schoolbag.
At fist time I thougth it was by hardware I mean a swich that turn off the USB ports when you close the tablet and dont care to much about this, but when I update my Transformer to ICS and put the option to keep active while is charging in developer options I note that even when my Transformer is closed with the dock it is still charging my phone via USB but only when Transformer is charging or conected to a PC.
So, anybody know how to keep active the tablet when its closed and no USB conected??????
An app???? A script that can run in terminal???? because I try with keep the screen on setting but didnt work.
Hope somebody can help me. Thanks in advance.
Try enabling the option to keep the wired network active when sleeping. I found that this seems to keep the USB ports active (although it also completely disables deep-sleep on the tablet, so there are battery trade-offs)....
Only problem is that I think that you need to connect a USB->Ethernet adapter in order for the option I'm talking about to appear (actually so that the entire "Ethernet" menu appears)...

No problem - please let us know if it works for you.

Well if i connect my usb to pc it will say its charging...
So it's broken nad i get new one? Only for connecting to pc?
My pc wont even notic it. So its proberly dead.
Atleast charging works!
The tablet needs 15v to charge. A normal PC USB port only pushes around 4-5v. It will charge very slowly. If your tablet is on when connecting to PC and doesn't get recognised you might need a new sync cable.

I'm not sure what your question is...but:
The Transformer can only charge from a computer USB port when the tablet is powered off. Even then, it will charge very slowly.
If your Transformer is not being recognized when you plug it in via usb AND it's powered on, check to make sure your drivers are installed.
Assuming you are running Windows:
Hit Start
Search for Device Manager
In Device Manager, you should see at the top "Asus Android Devices." That's what mine shows anyways. If you have anything listed under "Other Devices", unplug your Transformer and see if these entries under Other Devices disappear. If anything under Other Devices disappears when you unplug your transformer, that means your driver is not properly installed. If that's the case, download PDAnet on your computer and follow it's installation instructions. When PDAnet finishes installing, it will have installed the correct driver for your transformer.
I don't know what else to say until you can clarify your question.
I have like ... 6 Usb ports in the front
The first 3 says its charging.
and other 3 doenst even show a a charge icon on tablet. Nor it say its connect on pc.
So i need new sync cable. Sucks xD.
Update i isntaled pdanet and it did show me the not reconize tf 101 ( device i mena)
but ican fix that.
Thank
now i can install ubuntu
Well i cant fix XD
Okay, not a problem at all. You said you are running Windows XP right?

uh no its not that its the cable problem that i found at a min ago
The green cable is well loose. Accourding to wikia pedia its Data + and white one is data- so thast why i couldnt connect.
The green cable was by a yellow one and i think that cause to recharge at the pc lol
I have no clue where the gren cable Should been. proberly by white one.
Try a new cable then let us know if it works. I would recommend an authentic asus cable just to make sure its the cable you're having issues with, not the tablet.

nothing to do with tab its just the cable.
My TF-101 external interface is messed up. When I plug into my keyboard, the keyboard works, but USB and SD cards aren't recognized. When I try and connect directly to my PC (Linux or Windows) my transformer is not recognized. I tried to boot into apx mode, and my transformer will not do it.
I've tried switching MTP on and off, usb debug on and off--nothing.
I opened my transformer and switched out the physical interface port with my other working transformer, and it made no difference (i.e. it is not the physical transformer port).
any ideas or suggestions?
What ROM/firmware are you running?
Judging from your tests, it tells me there's 2 possibilities:
1. Software is creating the problem
2. The issue is deeper than the USB interface, could be the controller on the board or a number of other hardware issues.
Can you still boot in recovery? If so and if you're rooted, do a nandroid backup just in case. Also do a full backup of your data and copy over wifi using samba or airadb or ftp or etc. Then do a complete flash using easyflasher, get it back to stock. Check if the problem persists. If yes, then I'd assume it's something hardware. You could compare voltage at different test spots on the board.
Edit: I assume APX/transfers work while not docked?
The USB and SD cards are on a different circuit from POWER from the dock, as well as the physical KEYBOARD. I am pretty sure the touchpad is also on the USB/SD circuit, so I would bet that is not working.
Most likely this is an issue with that circuit/board on the dock.
As far as PC detection, I would try getting a new cable. I (and other) have had an issue where our tablets were NOT recognized by multiple PC's, but using the same cord did work to power the device to charge it from the Asus wall wart. My cable has been badly abused by about 12 trips around the world in the last 2 years.
Thanks but it's not the cable given that I have a second transformer working fine on it. I'm on a stock non-rooted build on this one. (The other working transformer is stock, rooted).
Perplexing. Keyboard works with other transformer, as well.

Just to lay out the symptoms: No connectivity with computer (Linux or WIndows) over USB when transformer is booted normally. Transformer does not come up in APX mode. I'm plugging directly into tablet with a known good cable. No hardware problem with connector (pins are good).
Running pure stock US 9.2.1.27 (ICS 4.0.3)
Can boot recovery, but have no good update to use. Anyone with a tutorial on how to "update" a downgrade to honeycomb using stock recovery and a microsd, I'm listening.
thanks,

You will need to use Wolf's Downgrade method to install an older recovery from the HC firmware you want to flash.
Since your computers don't recognize it, you cannot downgrade as you need ADB via USB working.
How do you know it is a good cable? My original cable works to charge just fine, but one or both of the data wires (pins 2&3) are not working so it is basically just a charging cable.
Got a new cable and computers can detect it.

It's a good cable because I have a second TF-101 that works fine with that cable and my spare good cable...I wish it were a bad cable, that would be the easy fix...
Hello there
Ive got a problem. I wanted to Root my SL101 (Firmware 4.0.3 Android) with Peri or THe 1 Click Solution. But the original usb cable only charged my device when I plugged in to power socket. BUt USB on PC didnt work. PC never found device, didnt search for driver and no "BLing" for USB device plugged in. So I ordered a new usb cable (not original, cause asus sl101 already 3 years old). The new cable worked. USB found on PC. Data transfer worked. Charinging over power socket worked, but no charging when connected to pc. When I enabled USB Debugging, it said "Device removed" and then "device started". But there was no deivce seen on computer. No "internal storage". So there is no possibility to transfer data and Root won't start cause it doesnt find device. I installed all driver (ADB driver, also tried Asus Pc Suite), but it doesnt work. Is my device broken or is it because of the cables? Are there any working cables on internet with better quality and supporting USB Debugging? The non original cable is from vhbw.
Is this a common problem with Asus Sl101? I searched for related problems. SOmeone also had problems with Asus original cable. It also charged plugged in to power socket but not with PC and Pc never fund USB conection, never searched for drivers. He ordered a new cable (original, cause his case was years ago) and it worked.
Any ideas how to get it work? Its not really important to root it though, but I wanted to buy Titanium Backup so I can save my apps, and I need root for it. There are f course plenty other apps needing root. Any advices?
Not sure about the data transfer error apart from lack of drivers, but the PC will not charge the tablet while it is running - at least for the TF101 anyway, the only way to get the PC to charge it is to either turn it off while its plugged into the PC and leave it overnight for trickle charge, or I think also if the tablet is in sleep mode, it will also trickle charge - but you have to use the main charger to get a fast charge into it - PC will only trickle charge

First of all, thanks for answering. I tried it, but when I plug in USB, Asus SL101 turns on. I won't charge turned off. It turns on automatically when I plug in USB to charge. And when its turned on plugged in on PC USB, as I explained before, it won't charge.
Somene know where I can get a working cable? Maybe an original working one? Asus SL 101 is maybe 2 or 3 years old know. Shouldnt there be still original ones left in shops? Actually it doesnt have to be an original one. A working one is fine, too. (Working means for me: USB, Charging, USB Debugging). So anyone knows good stores/internet offers (amazon, ebay...) for sl101 cables? Cause I really dont know which one is a good one.
Plug it in to USB and then turn it off, you won't see it charging, it is a very very slow process when you charge from PC (If it works the same as the TF101) - leave it overnight plugged in and turned off
Sounds like your cable is working fine, you get a data connection with USB debugging - so data side of the cable works, and you get a charge when you plug it into the charger, so power side of it is working too
It's likely drivers stopping you using the media transfer mode
eBay would probably be your best bet if you want another one
asusparts.eu sell some stuff too - fits SL101
http://www.asusparts.eu/en/Asus-KIT-AC-TF101
Ya actually I didnt want to complain. The cable really works fine, but I cant root cause USB Debugging Mode is found by PC, but showing no storage icons on computer. So Root Software dont find device and no data transfer works while it is in debugging mode. Could it be because of my device? Actually it was from germany and the firmware also was DE. But for updates, I had to change it to WW code. Maybe its cause of firmware. I really dont know. Its strange cause for everyone it works, only for me it doesnt work. So original cable was to begin with not working on usb pc. So I hoped the fake one would work full. *sigh*
Thanks for the link. I searched for only the cable (on the given link) and I found it without adapter. But its a pity, Im in germany and if they send the cable to me, I have to pay 46$ for the cable. For US people its 25$ (cause they dont have to pay oversea sending costs). If its also not working, so it would be a problem.. even warranty is expensive (sending back ~20$).
Is there a way to downgrade SL101 from 4.0.3 to Firmware Version 3.2 without using USB Debugging and root?
Case closed, Watson (I always wanted to say that)
I found the error. The cable is working now and USB Debugging working, too. Root was successful. I opened device manager and deleted Asus Epad Sl101 driver and plugged sl101 in. So windows had to search for drivers and it installed the right drivers. I dont know why preinstalled ADB Drivers didnt work, but now everything works.
Thanks for your effort
Great, yea sounded like a driver problem, pleased you got it working :good:
