Hi all im new to the forum and to android ...i recently purchased a dell streak 5 ...when I received it...i started looking through the forums and different uses on how to root the streak. so i found one that i could understand (remember newbie...not understanding alot of ways to do this). after i did it....alot of my applications were not working...they would freeze and i would have to force it closed...i got fed up so i wanted to put the phone back to factory settings....i did it then went to try and upgrade it again....it wouldnt work...kept saying something like this E:sdcard cant encrypt...and then it left me with nothing. the phone would start and take me to the android logo (as if i was starting from when i first got the phone) but when i pressed the logo it never did anything...it was like frozen on that screen and I couldnt get into my phone at all...good thing i didnt have my phone that long....took it back to rogers and they said it was screwed up and they never seen a phone do what it was doing....so they sent me a new streak....so i dont want this to happen again ....but i do want to root my phone...can someone help me with this so that it will work....and also some info on flashing ROM i have no idea what that is and what to do....right now im on streak 5...

Need Help rooting Rogers Dell Streak 5 Build 14896 BB GAUSB1A133932
Hi All
Great Forum.
Having similar issues to the original poster...
I have today received a new Dell Streak 5 from Dell, performed carrier unlock and am now ready to root and hopefully flash to a custom ROM.
Have read many posts here and searched extensively for a firm answer.... seems there are several methods to root and flash
Definitively.... Which is the best method to:
1) Root this device
2) Flash to Custom Gingerbread ROM

okay so i have spent many hours with my new motorola photon 4g that i recently got from sprint. bout 4 days now. im more use to using samsung android devices and htc devices and this is my first motorola. i had been wanting to root it because its my favorite thing with an android when i get one. so i did research and unlocked my bootloader and did the unlock sbf file and installed clockwork mod revocovery as well. after all that my photon was working fine but was on stock rom. i had downloaded a rom and put it into the phone and of course installed it. im not used to motorola and it was my first time learning about their bootstrap and blah blah blah. after installing i had tried turning the phone on but it just stayed at the Motorola dual core screen. i tried booting three more times to no luck. so then i had tried another rom and again i had no luck. i should have done the smart thing which is after the unlocking and putting on recovery to make a back up immediately but for some reason didnt. so i go online to find another sbf file so that i could start all over and see my mistakes, but then my battery was way to low. my advice to you is to make sure your battery is filled up cuz trust me this was a ***** to figure all out. so this is what i did in case if any body has this kind of problem, cuz i know im not gonna be the first, well maybe, but definitely not the last. what i found out is the phone wont let you flash any files when battery is low. and as i can say, its for saftey reason cuz if it dies while flashing, well you might be **** out of luck. depending on what you are flashing. but what i found out is that if you connect the hone to the wall outlet, the phone will turn on into clockwork. dont try plugging into the computer cuz it will be useless. i tried several times till i finally got the message. the recovery is the only thing that can be booted up. you dont even need the battery in the photon. it will still turn on as long as it was in the outlet. i then transfered files to the sdcard from another phone, over and over till finding the right one, then flashed and flaseh. finally, finally found a rom that woul work with ,y phone. i kept the rom till i was able to charge the phone. rom kept bootlooping but it kept bootlooping long enough to charge the battery then flashed the sbf sprint file to my phone. i wanted to write this cuz i was hoping somebody would be able to explain to me what i may have done wrong with the flashing or if their was a step that i had skipped cuz it seems like no rom works as of now with my photon. hopefully someone can help me out here cuz i really do want a custom rom. or maybe someone can tell me what i should do in order to install a custom rom and have it work for me.

jokersax11 has done an amazing job bringing ICS to the photon... I believe he will soon have his beta officially picked up by cyanogenmod... also, I am pretty sure he's close to fixing the 4G that you loose when you unlock the bootloader.
I was tryin to root my samsung captivate on 2.3.5 gingerbread software when i accidently unplugged the usb chord it was stuck and wouldnt go into download mode when i tryed everything i decided to try and download the root and it finally worked but only a little it goes to world phone atnt and has galaxy startup but one i havnt seen it says samsung 19000 and then continues to go back and forth between the two it will get in download mode and recover mode but i just want my regular software back can anyone help??
First of all, the I9000 is the Galaxy S, not the Captivate. You can't (generally) put firmware from one phone onto another (I've NEVER heard of that, anyway).
You need to go back to the start by flashing a stock ROM and getting your phone back to working order. You can do that by going here...

I'd strongly recommend that you spend some time reading the sticky threads in the development and Q&A forums as they will have answers to most questions like this.
Good luck
i tryed that and with all the options one im not to sure what to do but regardless it will still go into download mode but now it will only go to a white screen saying atnt world phone i am so screwed i have no clue what to do
hey i figured it all out thanks for the help!

Hello All,
Well Ive had my head buried in the xda forums for about a week and a half, two weeks now so I decided to post my issue hoping someone could advise me, I rooted my phone LG G2 D80220c-HKG-XXX, kitkat 4.4.2, Ive tried flashing a couple different roms but it would not take, ( I am sure its rooted ) and the last one cm12 I had to abort and at that point I decided I would just go back to stock and unroot, well to my great pleasure (lol) the ota for lollipops push came to my phone and guess what!!! I left it with my dad, and not knowing what it was excepted it thinking it was a app update of some kind, no problem, it was stuck in cwm recovery loop, after researching the forum I used Minimal ADB and Fastboot from 'shimp208' and ADB shell code to boot from 'thecubed'' post [fix] Installed TWRP and now you're stuck OTA, To shorten this long story, Im operating on basic os 4.4.2 now and discovered that my imei # is that of a D800 but my build number is KOT49I.D80220c, baseband version is M8974A-AAAANAZM-1.0.190084 and of course the software is in the above text, so now I have no clue what firmware to use to go back to stock, I'm thinking D800 but I dont no where or even if what I need exists, Ive searched where, does anyone have any ideas, thanks for reading and for any help.
Hi, Nice phone - should be able to find help here lg-g2/help
Hope this helps !!
Hi! Was playing around with my phone this morning and decided i would try and get Cyanogen mod on my phone.. It was previously untouched for the past like 6 months but for some reason decided to go for it.. One of my friends who is fairly confident but lives half the province away decided to help me.. I dont know anything about modding first off.. First I started by trying to use the one touch cyanogen mod thing.. Unsuccessful.. He told me to download the Nexus root toolkit so I did.. After awhile and some errors I got a driver and managed to unlock and root my phone.. My friend then had to go to school but said the rest would be easy.. so without his help I continued.. I looked up a video on how to get Cyanogen mod and I got the TWRP on my phone and had Gapps on the phone aswell.. dont know what I did exactly but all I know is my phone is now not working how I want it to..
Problems:
It connects to the laptop but the laptop doesnt show the file folders. (previously had "Stick mount" on my device)
also while the phone is on it keeps popping up tabs saying "unfortunatly "App name" has stopped. The two apps that keep coming up are GooglePlay Services, eu.chainfire.supersu and com.google.process.gapps.
I cant do anything and am super frustrated.
What should I do?
Hi, thank you for using XDA assist. Before you do anything with your phone you should really spend some time learning about it. That way if you mess up you'll know how to fix it. Start here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...urce-guides-info-threads-linked-read-t2784527 Your best bet right now is probably to flash the stock firmware and start the process all over again. Also see this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5 If you have further questions you can ask in the Q&A section of the forum.
Hello. First of all, let me just say I'm glad I was pointed to this place by a friend, and, while I know asking for help with your first post is simply bad form, I think you guys are my last hope for fixing this phone, so I'll just go ahead an explain.
Alright.
So, yesterday I decided to root my ZenFone 6 (A600CG) for the first time after about 9 months of use. Up until then, I didn't really have any interest in rooting or even unlocking the bootloader, or any knowledge of how to do anything with it at all.
So, I did a quick google search, and found this:
w w w.asus-zenfone.com/2015/05/one-click-root-for-zenfone-series.html
The whole thing felt a bit dodgy, what with the all the bat files and stuff, but I decided to go ahead anyway. And it worked just fine, my phone was rooted. Hooray. Time to go and install stuff I couldn't before, right?
That's when this came in:
w w w.asus-zenfone.com/2015/10/how-to-add-zenmotion-to-your-zenfone.html
So, I did that. What I didn't realize, however, was that my bootloader was still locked. And so I followed the instructions detailed on that tutorial and all, seemed to work. Except when my phone rebooted, all that showed up on the display was a USB symbol. It wouldn't boot. I swear, I nearly shat my pants at that moment. So, I set out to fix that.
I couldn't really find ANY decent tutorial on how to undo the soft-brick for the ZenFone 6 specifically, so what I did first was trying to sideload each and every single rom that ASUS has for the ZenFone 6 on their support page. None of them worked, all of them showed the "failed to verify whole-file signature" error when I tried to have them sideloaded with ADB. So, I followed these:
zenfone-blog.blogspot.com.br/2015/06/guide-how-to-unbrick-asus-zenfone-4-5-6.html
w w w.windroidica.in/2015/07/how-to-revert-back-to-stock.html
First the former, didn't work because the rom wouldn't sideload, then the latter. Now, I'm aware the latter tutorial deals with the ZenFone 5 (for some reason, everything out there regarding these devices is either for the ZenFone 2 or 5, almost nothing can be found regarding the 6), but I figured the two are similar enough that a ZenFone 5 firmware would most likely work on the ZenFone 6, since they're basically the same thing, except for the camera and display size. Well, I was wrong. It kinda worked, though, it was stuck on a bootloop at that point.
So, with my phone stuck on bootloop, instead of coming here for help before, this dumbass here tried to flash the recovery for a custom one (TWRP, in this case). Except the bootloader was locked. So, I tried flashing dnx and ifwi with a bootloader toolkit I found here on XDA-Dev. I don't even know what went wrong, but the bootloader is still apparently locked, fastboot won't flash TWRP on top of the current default recovery, and now the phone is soft-bricked again, with that USB logo appearing whenever it turn the phone on.
Is there any chance at all I can solve this, or should I just throw this in the trash and buy a new one? I'd rather solve it, as I quite like this device, even if ASUS is terrible with their updates.
PS: Sorry about the links, but I feel as though they're necessary to better explain the situation.
EDIT: Seems like the bootloop is back now.
EDIT 2: Finally found a working firmware (2.20.40.11)! Sideloaded it, but I got a message about installing the latest 4.3 version first. I'm assuming it refers to the Android version, and now I'm really not sure whether it worked or not, as the phone still seems to be on a bootloop. Confusing as hell.
EDIT 3: It wasn't even a bootloop, just a longer than normal boot! My phone is running again! Lost all my data, contacts, everything. It's as if I had bought it today. I'm happy, though. Feel free to lock this thread, the issue has been resolved!
