[Q] Broken LCD and screen [GT-i9020T] - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I've broken my Nexus S. The screen is shattered and both the LCD and touch screen don't work. When I turn the phone on the bottom hardware buttons light up, there is the normal small vibration, however there is no display at all on the screen. The phone does seem to boot though.
Basically, I wanted to know whether buying and fitting a replacement screen, LCD and digitizer will fix the problem?
I have a friend who has replaced iPhone screen before and he seems to think that maybe it won't due to the screen not lighting up at all. Obviously I don't want to waste my money and buy a replacement screen for it not to actually work.
Thanks in advance!

[Q] Screen won't turn on

Hello and thanks for reading this. First, a clarification- I'm under the impression that the front of a GS3 is the "front glass," with the digitizer underneath, and the amoled screen underneath that. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but that's how I'll refer to them below.
Yesterday I attempted to replace the broken glass on my GS3, and found that not only was the glass cracked, but the digitizer was too. I got the glass off, but managed to crack/warp the digitizer in the process. I'm sure there's no damage to the amoled screen, maybe a couple of light scratches, but now the screen doesn't turn on. It was working fine that morning. Now, the screen does absolutely nothing. LED functions fine.
The phone will vibrate/LED will light when I get a notification, and I have 3 batteries all at 100% charge. So I (think I) know that it's just the screen components that are messed up. Do I have to buy the $150 assembly? Or is there an easier, cheaper (!) fix? When I get home tonight, I'll try download mode, removing the sim, but I'm not sure if I want to reflash firmware yet. Thanks for any ideas.

The amoled screen is directly under the digitizer. However if you break your digitizer, there's no way for your phone to respond rendering your amoled screen useless anyway. It's essentially one unit because of the way it's manufactured.
Why would you reflash firmware? If you replace the entire display assembly it'll fix it. Your issue isn't software related.

I don't know how Samsung designed it, but I would think the amoled screen would still light up and show stuff, even if the digitizer's broken. As for flashing, it's a suggestion I found through Google. I was sure it wouldn't do anything, which is why I wanted to save it for last. Thanks for the relpy.

[Q] Cracked Screen Question

Hi All
Recently i got careless and i accidentally cracked my nexus 5 screen after dropping it on the ground
Currently the touch screen works but there is a problem. I am unable to answer calls as the screen goes black and does not turn on again until the person has hung up or until i reset the phone. Also when i try to call out the screen turns black as well and exhibits the same symptoms as listed above.
From people who have had experience with cracked Nexus 5 screens, do you think replacing the digitizer + lcd will fix this issue or did i screw up something big
Thanks
It sounds like the cracked glass is affecting the proximity sensor. Replacing the screen /digitizer should fix the problem. Replace the whole thing including the bezel.
Any chance you could explain why the bezel also needs to be replaced as well?
It's easier to use the screens that come with the housing, you just switch internals and pop the back on. As for oem replacement screens with housings, I've read mixed reviews. Some say theirs is perfect. Others complain of different textures on the housing, or missing ear speaker mesh. Some say their replacements have massive light bleed. If it were my phone I'd pay the extra 25 to 50 bucks and send it to lg for repair. They charge 150 dollars. Then you are guaranteed to have it be perfect again. Plus their work and parts are warrantied. Play it safe and send it to lg imo.
Edit: Also if you did break anything else they will fix that as well.

[Q] color issues after screen replacement

I replaced my nexus 5 screen after cracking it with a new lcd, digitizer, and the frame from amazon. tested the screen before re assembling the whole unit and all looked great. after getting it all buttoned up i found that after the screen sleeps and comes back on the colors are very distorted. Rebooted the phone and the color is accurate again, but again after the screen sleeps and comes back on the colors are distorted. I then tore it back apart installed my old crack screen and all is fine again. I am looking to see if anyone has come across this. I am assuming it is a bad display, but would like to see if anyone has any other suggestion on a possible problem before i return the display.
Bump: just because i'm returning the replacement screen tomorrow and ordering another if no input.

Replace OnePlus One?

I dropped my One on my floor in a certain way that cracked my screen. Now my screen is unresponsive. Should I try to fix the screen or is it time for a upgrade.
The OPO LCD Screen Display on eBay is about $35, replace the screen is funny but not easy. For me I'll replace the screen(as I already did), because I don't wanna see my OPO with a broken screen.
Replace the screen , as no other phone is equal to opo .

Hi guys,
I'll bring this zombie topic back to life
So have any of you changed the lcd screen themselves?
How many connectors are there on the screen assembly?
I can clearly see just one in the middle of the phone next to the battery.
When I connect the new screen and turn on the phone - the vibro squeaks as in normal boot, but the screen doesn't light up.
My first guess was that I got a faulty screen so now I'm checking the second one and it does the same...
Is there anything I'm missing?
Thanks!
