[Q] Sensation heating up - but not the battery! - HTC Sensation

A few days ago I noticed my Sensation (stock ROM, Anker battery) heating up whenever I use the phone (for browsing, SMS, games, etc).
It's the lower part of the phone, especially the front where the touch buttons are. Sometimes it gets very hot, though never sufficiently hot to feel like my hand is burning.
I've checked the battery manually and it is cold, so it's not the battery. The screen is normal temperature also.
Anyone else notice something similar? Anyone know of possible cause?

Yeap I have the same trouble... Mainly it's get hot after 15 20 min countinues use...
Any cure yet...or any suggestions plz

I really dont think it can be resolved with undervolting etc on any kernel, pretty sure its a hardware design flaw.. my first sensation died on charge over night as stock... I had reported it about getting hot while sitting in my pocket.. the wonderful HTC rep said uninstall all apps.. the day it died it was stock and had no installed apps.. prior to that, looking at the logcat seemed to be pretty uneventful... top command showed nothing unusual cpu wise since getting my new main board it got hot once... when i ran cf bench with mikes rev rom... apart from that its perfect.
unless.... the new dual core kernels are stopping a part of the cpu die getting hot due to both cores being implemented correctly... I could go back to stock and see but thats not fun

CPU + Radio + wifi + GPS = heat. The more you use the faster it heats up and hotter it gets. The CPU is in the front bottom.
The Anker has a bogus temp sensor, so the phone won't report battery temp correctly.
Sent from my Energy ROM Sensation.

Mine used to do this followed by rapid battery drain but ever since it went for a swim (and spent a week in a bowl of rice) it stays cool and battery life has increased tremendously!

Yes I have same problem with u last nite. But everything come back to normal after reboot

All of my devices have got pretty hot, this is the only one with dual core so i expected it.Nothing out of the ordinary really. Can your dual core computer run without its fan on the heatsink?!

Heat
I have the extact same problem, running Android Revolution 3.1.1. I currently have the Anker battery in but I will be changing back to the OEM tonight to do some stress test and check the temp.
I'll report back.

My quad core PC can, CPU temp increased by 6C to 42C when the fan died over the summer during a mini heatwave, which I thought was pretty impressive
Sensation is currently running at 43C having been charging and using wifi at max range.

haha imagine a first gen p4 running without a heatsink and fan, fried eggs anyone?
but on a more serious note they had to replace the main board on mine.... so even if this is is normal.. the phone should never fail due to this... and i know intel have had some issues with the architecture over the years and recalled some cpu's that melt... ya never know

Overheating
So I put my OEM battery back in my Sensation last night and I was still noticing the bottom of the screen get hot to the touch.
I checked the battery temp and it was 39.1c this felt hot in my hand and all I doing was browsing the web on 3G. I have emailed HTC support to see if this is normal but I have a feeling it maybe judging by all the posts on various forums about the sensation overheating.
I have also notice the same issue this morning whilst sending a long sms with not data connected the battery temp was reported 36.8c.
Should I be concerned about this?
Thanks
Nik

It is normal.
But every machine degrades coz of heat over a period of time.
Changing ROM can helps, I can feel the temperature difference.
Custom ROMs really helps, but you still get hot phone if you play your game over half an hour. I don't believe someone can play a game over 45 minutes, the battery could die by then.
Oh, dun let the battery completely die tough.

Thanks for the reply, it sets my mind at ease a bit.
I post the reply from HTC if I get one.

Hi Guys
Well I got a reply from HTC this morning and it seems the phone shouldn't be getting this hot. They have asked me to send it to them for repairs.
Dear nNik xxxxxxx
Thank you for your email regarding your HTC Sensation.
we can arrange for your phone to be repaired. We provide this service for our customers through our Repair Centre in the UK. Please read the following instructions carefully.
We can arrange for UPS to collect your device from any address in the UK, Ireland or any other EU country, from Monday to Friday, 13:00 to 17:00 except weekends and public holidays.
The current time-scale for the repair is 10 working days from when it arrives at the HTC Repair Centre.
If the fault is found not to be covered by the warranty then the repair will be chargeable and a quotation for the full cost of the repair will be emailed to you. Should you choose not to go ahead with the quote; a £20 fee (approx) will be charged for the return of the device in an un-repaired state. This covers the shipping, evaluation, testing of the handset and VAT. If you choose not to pay the quotation then the device will be disposed of after 30 days.
Physical damage and Wear & Tear in the device is not covered under the warranty, and the repair centre may decide that the repair will be chargeable if damage is found.
If evidence of water damage or liquid ingress is discovered then the device will not be repaired. We can either return the phone to you un-repaired (at no charge to yourself) or we can dispose of it for you. It is un-economical to repair liquid damaged phones as the cost to you may be more then the cost of purchasing a brand new phone.

heat from bottom of phone - 44 degree temp

i havebeen using my phone for the last couple of hours to listen to music and do a bit of surfing whilst bored at work ... the temp has got upto 44 degree's , its not plugged in charging .... is this normal ??
the heat seems to come from the bottom of the phone .....
ive had some hot phones but this is ridiculous - htc really need to sort this before our phones ... excuse the pun burn out !
what temps have your phones got to ?? is 44 degree's ok or is it too high
i dont want to turn the phone screen off every time i use it for a while just to cool the damn thing down.
What phone are you using. I have n HD7 that gets really hot. I mean really if it wasn't for the development on HTC devices no one would be buying them. The build quality is poor from the processor to the display to the housing. That's why Samsung is a trusted manufacturer but lacks development its truly their only flaw.

i cant believe htc released a phone which causes so much heat - will a firmware release sort it ?? i wonder

Cool it man I'm using the xda app for android and it doesn't exactly tell you where you are unless you navigate there yourself. Also don't ask me why and how I got here I just saw an interesting topic an decided to add my 2 sense. Had a sensation and it crapped out on me within 3 hours. Got a second one same thing after 3 days it crapped out to.

well today mine got up to 44 but that was my fault. i always take the case off when charging it and i forgot to do it. also i was using it during this.
the case reduces heat dissipation. as soon as took off the case it went down to 38.
so i recommend that if you have a case on your phone and you see or feel that is getting too hot, take off the case.
I wouldn't want to say it's normal however I've had at least 3 sensations that were hitting around 43 to 45deg C just on battery while using Google Maps or browsing the web. The reps (all three working at the time) in the store found it strange that the phone was getting so hot just to the touch.
May have to underclock our devices like the iPhone. shouldn't be much of a difference considering it has a dual core processor right?

The most important isnt the Frequency, the most important is the voltage in the processor...
On SGSII, you have practically the same voltage at 1.2Ghz than 1Ghz or 800Mhz...
So i think is the same on Sensation... lower voltages, or you never get decent temperatures.
Am I being to simple here or is it just the fact so much tech is in the handsets now that it will obviously get hot? I would of thought this is the norm for phones nowadays and without sticking a fan on the back there is nothing that can be done?
Can we compare this to a PC? What temp do processors run at on a PC, and is there a limit before they lag or fail?

You cannot compare a smartphone to a PC, due the pc have an active cooling, and an smartphone have a passive one...
So, the smartphone will get more hot than a PC.
This temps are good, but think this components are more delicated than a pc, so the temperature isn't good for her life.
Played 15min of asphalt hd and the phone got very hot. I took off the back cover off to investigate and noticed the microsd is located at the bottom of the phone. The microsd was untouchable. Hope the device heat will not damage it.
All HTC devices have inbuilt thermal protection. If the phone gets too hot it will shutdown and/or reboot.

i think the highest mine has got is around 115deg. (around 46C). this is rediculous i think since it only happens when i play a game for like 20 min..browsing the web reaches around 107 sometimes. but im past my 2 week remorse period so i cant return/exchange the phone at t-mobile, dont know what to do since some ppl say this is normal for being a dual core and wut not, but then not everyone has these overheating issues

[Q] Atrix 2 Heat Issues

I have had my Atrix 2 8 days past the 30 day mark. And recently the phone has started getting really hot. Not when I am using but when it is just sitting.
I have checked to see what app or process could be running and causing it. And I have found nothing. This is what I have checked so far
Wifi is off
Bluetooth is off
GPS is off
Here are the only things using my power
Cell Standby 33%
Phone Idle 31%
Voice Calls 9%
Motorola Services 4%
Display 4%
And it gets smaller from there. I can set the phone down and walk away and come back to pick it up and it is smokin hot with 40% of the battery drained.
I sent an email to Motorola support on New Years. I have not heard back from them. I also contacted ATT and they want to give me a refurbished phone. Which I have refused due to last phone I did with them. I got a scratched up dented phone in trade for my flawless phone. I told them my phone has been used for 38 days and is flawless I want the same back.
I liked the phone at first but I am about at my wits end. Any ideas what can be causing this?
My phone gets really hot when I leave the camera app running.
Droid incredible 2 running cyanogenmod 7 nightly 134
I just went into my task manager and the only things that are using my cpu are the Android System at 25% and Home Screen at 1%. And my battery just dropped from 15% to 5% in 20 mins sitting with the screen off.
Download an app called watchdog and see if you can trace down a rogue app maybe. Also setcpu gives you an option to see the battery temp. Would be interesting to see what the temp is when you're saying its hot. Mine generally stays around 32° with general usage.
I am trying your suggestion and running into the second issue I having. No data. I just opened the market and it says server error. Tried 4 times. And the little 4g symbol is white not blue and I have 3 bars of signal.
I love android and I love the look and feel of this phone. But this thing is seriously p*****g me off.

I run into that issue at work sometimes myself and usually its due to spotty coverage. I have a airplane mode toggle just for it. Toggle on and off and usually jumps right up to 4G in blue
Update: Motorola never responded to my email. AT& T never called me back. So I called them yesterday and asked them why they didn't return my call like they said and chewed them out.
I tried the watchdog application and it never alerted of any rogue apps yet the phone remained hot.
So the end result was ATT sold me a Samsung Galaxy S2 SKYROCKET for 149.00 (199 was normal price but I got 50 credit for what I paid for atrix) and a 160 credit on my bill. They put a supervisor on the line who apologized repeatedly for them not returning my call.
The crazy thing is they don't want the atrix back? I asked them what about the atrix they said try to return it at the store I bought it at if I want.. Overall I am more than happy with Att's response after they dropped the ball. But I will never buy another Motorola product again. They have yet to get back to me. They sent me an email over a week ago saying they will be contacting me in 24hours and and a week later nothing.
Sent from my MB865 using XDA App
Never had my A2 gets too hot. BTW you had a problem with ATT not moto for not exchanging your phone. If it gets too hot and your battery is draining too fast it might just be a simple battery exchange. Moto will never listen to peoples request or demand ^_^v but there are great devs here cooking up some fix for our A2's existing bugs. I think i will never get to see your problem though because my GPS, 4g/data, bloatwares, are always off and have droidwall that gives me some control on what goes out of my phone. You might want to call ATT and have them check if your phone is set to 4G because mine wasn't before and they had to configure their end for it to work properly.
Before you went ahead and exchanged it, you probably should have flashed the stock fxz and factory restored, and then reinstalled your apps one by one to ensure that there isn't a rogue app hiding somewhere on your phone.
But at least you're happy with the end result. Too bad you don't still have the A2, it's a great phone. I've never had that problem with it (but I did a couple times with my A4G).
I just got an email back from Motorola today. Also, I did factory a reset and the problems persist. I do still have the phone. I may do refurb exchange and give it to my wife. She doesn't care about it like I do. She will have it torn up in 2 weeks from throwing it in her purse and letting my kids play with it.
I would bet on it being the issue I experienced with cpu not scaling. Let me tell you that was a witch Hunt.

How did you fix the issue? My phone is doing it now. I'm getting very frustrated, I really like the phone and I don't want to get rid of it. They have replaced my battery and my phone once over the issue, and here it goes again! Any help would greatly be appreciated.
Same issue here. Phone will be in stand-by mode, battery starts to get very hot to the touch, and it automatically reboots.
FYI: To the OP and anyone else; Your phone is under warranty for 1 year. You can go to the motorola website and look up whether or not you're still in warranty.
This could all be caused by a number of things, including but not limited to: SIM card may need to be swapped for a new one, the sdacrd may be of a class that's unstable to run or has corrupted data/app data, clearing Dalvik and/or cache partition(s) may not hurt to try, if the signal coverage isn't consistent and the phone has to search for signal to connect with this will eat your battery alive and cause some excessive heat as well, the battery may be going ka-put, battery stats could be wiped, may need to try a factory reset, or it could be a hardware issue altogether. Motorola isn't manufacturing "new" Atrix 2 phones any longer, so even if you have a warranty and go for an exchange through Moto, you're most likely going to end up with a refurb phone. Moto seems notorious for manufacturing devices that do run hot, and I suppose it could also be attributed to how much the user is "using" the phone. Clock speeds also, the higher they are, will run the phone hotter, and if pushed too high or at an unstable clock speed, the device most certainly WILL randomly reboot. Sorry there isn't a more 'definitive' answer that I'm able to come up with, but trying anything and everything at this point might not bode poorly in your favor...

Devices overheating

Guys, I would like to know if any of you are having the same experience that I am having right now.
My Samsung Galaxy S3 is overheating to a point that it can burn me a little if I have it inside my pocket.
Is this normal for a device that's not even rooted?
Some people told me to give it back but I would like to know first, cause I seriously hate talking to these people from the help desk.
Any help will be appreciated
Dunno - i've been playing a lot of games ( glwg, asphalt 7, shadowgun etc...) web browsing, pdf editing and viewing and generally using it for what it can do.
Haven't had any overheating problems in the few weeks i've had it, been using that way both in an otterbox defender and naked.
I've seen here and there others mentioning overheating issues but i've yet to experience them firsthand.
My last device suffered some painful to the touch overheating issues which were completely solved by ditching the stock battery and going with an aftermarket one. I've also seen some reference to this being a fix here too.
Not having overheating issues and having been pleasantly surprised with the life of the stock battery for the screen size of the device, I haven't gone aftermarket yet so can't give a firsthand account of how that helps, if at all, but figured i'd toss out what little i've seen so far.
I haven't had any major battery issues until this weekend. I used Google Navigation for 4 hours in the car while charging. I was only 10 – 15 minutes away from my destination when my phone shut itself off...when I needed it most! I tried rebooting...nothing.
I haven't experienced any issues with my S3. However on my previous Galaxy Nexus I did, once the cause was a bad rom/kernel combination the other time later on the battery just gave up on me. I called Verizon and asked for a battery replacement...I told them that I have used another battery of my wife's phone since she owned the same device at the time and with her battery the phone would work just fine without over-heating. The Verizon support guy sent me an extended battery for the inconvenience. I'm always lucky Verizon. Hope this helps.
I have.....not really concerned...bc i had that same problem with my og evo 4g and 3d......

When you sell over 10 million of them a few are bound to be bad (heck 1% failure rate gives 100,000 bad batteries). That said it doesn't seem to be a common problem so I would definitely hold out for a free (to you) replacement.
I find my phone gets hot when I'm in low service areas.. I would venture to guess it's a radio issue..

During about a 10 min email \ web visit with my S3 after a workout, I noticed that the phone was physically hot, to the point I thought it might be too hot. This, coupled with a "no sim" message today, at random, and some crappy battery life, is driving me to visit the local verizon store tomorrow and get it exchanged, just in case. (still in the 14 day window)
Will let you know if it's any better for me.

The "no sim" message is, but I can't seem to find a real fix that will work in the US yet. I have seen cell towers blamed to sim cards not being clean to wifi screwing with things. So, I am not sure what really is the root of the problem.
With regards to heat, not sure. It feels like it's hotter than it should be, with normal use. Hotter than my iPad gets with constant use.
I only feel my phone getting slightly warm after playing games for a while. But that happened with my last two smartphones so I'm not really concerned. About as warm as my DInc2 and nowhere near as hot as my LG smartphone.

I haven't had any heating issues except the fact that it gets hot in my pocket when its really hot out, I've had a replacment since the last time that happened and no heat issues since.
hell my screen just whent out, 2nd s3 i know thats done that. mine and my brother n laws.
No problems here running latest cm10.
I exchanged my initial S3 today at the local Verizon store. I explained it was running hot, the battery life was abysmal, and I had the dreaded "no sim". The salesman and manager started to explain to me there was an update and they couldn't fix it... for about five minutes, until I asked if they could explain how the 14 day return policy worked. They immediately said mine was DOA and would be happy to give me a new phone. Five minutes after I got home from the store, I got a "no sim" message... starting to think its definitely a cell tower \ verizon software issue. Oddly enough, my battery drain is a lot better, so it wasn't all for naught!
My phone does get pretty warm at school, but I chalk that up to having terrible service while indoors. Other than that, it doesn't get that hot.

YES ! Noticed the new. "Galaxy S4 battery woes 'limited', offers free batteries".

And where are they exactly?

The issue seems to be limited to batteries with serial numbers beginning with "BD", easy enough for people to check if they're affected.
Also, I've seen no mention of a recall on the batteries? Do you have a link to this, OP?

All the information I posted is from the discussion threads on this forum. It's in there that it is only people who have the BD batteries having the issue. Any information I posted about what happens with the fault is from when my battery went through it .

Take a look at the battery, if it's swollen (even slightly so) that's a fairly good sign that it's having issues. As far as we know it's only BD batteries that are affected, but that doesn't mean that ALL BD batteries are.
There's other symptoms that come with the battery failing as well:
Generally bad battery life (much worse than previously used to)
Phone turning off randomly, and won't turn back on until a charger is connected
Battery level jumping from high (e.g. 80%) levels to very low (a few percent) when the phone cuts out
Noticacly swollen battery (this varies from only a mm or so of swelling, to enough to bend the screen and casing of the phone!
If you see any more of those issues, then it's probably worth contacting Samsung or the shop you purchased it from to get a replacement sent out to you.

Take a look at the battery, if it's swollen (even slightly so) that's a fairly good sign that it's having issues. As far as we know it's only BD batteries that are affected, but that doesn't mean that ALL BD batteries are.
There's other symptoms that come with the battery failing as well:

Thanks for the info.
It doesn't seem to be swollen (my phone is maybe 3-4 weeks old now), but I can barely get 2 hours of screen time and I do have to recharge my phone every night (Wifi is on maybe 70% of the time).
For example right now I'm at 4% battery with 19h 16m 57s time on battery and 33% usage by screen (1h 29m), then 16% by Google Services.
in 8 hours from 95% to 0 , 1:30h display (medium brightness) + some data h+ surfing facebook , i don`t think its alright battery life is poorer than my old 1 year s3
android 4.3 MJ5 battery : BD
Even if the battery is ever so slightly swollen just get the battery changed. Wether it's free of cost by Samsung or by purchasing a new one.
I had the same issue.. BD battery.. It was swollen and my screen had started to appear slightly curved as well. Barely used to last 24 hours(2hrs screen on). Got a new battery and I love my s4 again - 38 hours standby 4 hrs screen on. Hate samsung though!
Damn. My battery has BD serial. No issues yet though (had the phone 2 months)
I'm expecting to have to change it soon...

There doesn't appear to be one.
Samsung have given no statement on this topic (as far as I've been able to find).

Relax guys.. Samsung will replace the battery free of charge. Here's the response I got from them yesterday -
Thank you for contacting Samsung Customer Support.
I am sorry to hear you believe your battery falls under the faulty battery issue, I understand this is frustrating as it may limit the use of your device.
We are aware of this issue, which has affected a limited number of customers. We ask all customers to please visit their nearest Samsung Electronics authorised service centre, where they can receive a replacement battery free of charge. We remain committed to providing the best possible user experience for our customers.
As you are located in India, Unfortunately we would be unable to send you a replacement battery, as the replacement batteries are only being provided from the UK service centres. If you are able to perhaps send your device to the UK, perhaps to a friend or family member, They would be able to do apply for the replacement on your behalf.
“Please note that not all batteries are faulty, only batteries which display signs of swelling are eligible for a replacement. This is not dangerous, the only concern is that the back cover of your device may no longer fit.”
“Unfortunately if you have already purchased the battery, we would be unable to reimburse you, although you can still take your faulty battery to the service centre to receive a replacement.”
You can visit the link below to guide you to the nearest service centre that you can go to, with the proof of purchase, by just submitting your postcode, and choosing Mobile Phones from the drop down box:
http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/location/supportServiceLocation.do?page=SERVICE.LOCATION
If the battery on your device is swelling, and you are unable to make it to the service centre, we would have to book the device in for an inspection.
If you would like us to book your device in for an inspection, please provide the information below so we can assess your warranty status:
1) Serial number (Found under battery)
2) IMEI number (Not required if a tablet) (Found under battery)
3) Your full postal address
4) Brief description of the issue.
5) Model Code
If the device is deemed as faulty, we will repair it and send your friend or family member back a replacement battery.
If there is anything else we can help with, please let us know.
Our Customer Support Team love feedback! Share your thoughts on this response by completing the survey at the bottom of this page.

I'm fighting with Samsung since last Monday.Story:
Monday:
1st call to Samsung support, they advised to call nearest service center. Service center called. Reply: we have no batteries for replacement, but we will be very happy to SELL you one. Second call to Samsung, reply with email that I shall scan the proof of purchase, note the ser no, imei no etc and send it to them. Done on Tue.
Wednesday:
silence, so I called them again. Customer rep said that he is ordering the battery to be sent to me.
Thursday: silence
Friday: email from Samsung that I shall go to the nearest service center. another call to Sammy, this time it took approx 20 minutes to recognize the real status. As they stated, the battery shall be with me within the max 10 working days since the last Wednesday, and email was sent by mistake.
Let's see how it will end....
In the meantime, my phone's screen is more and more pushed back by swollen battery. If it will not return to normal - Sammy will have to replace the screen...
EDIT:
Battery arrived today, looking at the envelope - from Netherlands (are all UK stocks already depleted???)
Front screen returned to normal, new battery serial is AA and instead of the english, it has all description on it in some funny language.
Hope it will have longer lifetime...

Dude I suggest you buy a new battery first and keep the one you get from Samsung later as a spare. This way, not only will you be able to use your phone properly sooner and prevent further damage to the screen and it must just be a lil dangerous with that swollen defective battery.. Who knows if it might suddenly explode or heat up or something *god forbid*

Even my battery(BD) was fantastic was for the first 3ish months. Then it wouldn't hold charge and became swollen causing the screen to get slightly curved too. Got a new battery and the screen went back to normal and the battery life is back to being awesome! Suggest you change yours too, ASAP.

Ironic but I've started noticing weird creaking noises when I hold the phone and the battery is now very slightly swollen on one side - if I place it flat, it's fine on one side and can "rock" on the other. I doubt it's noticeable enough for a Samsung Service Centre to replace it, but I'm going to try regardless before it ruins the phone

you do realize that 37C is human body temp, right? does that mean that my body has overheated? anyways, its normal fir the temps to go up when in use, and to go up very much when playing games. your phone isnt even close to overheating. if it does actually overheat, itll reach 100C(cpu temp) and shut itself off.

I've read that the normal temp for the battery is around 25-30 C :/
And it did reboot... 3 times in the last 2 weeks (while playing a game)
I can also feel, that it's hot. The upper side of the back, near the camera...
This never happened with me on stock kernel :/
Near the camera it's the CPU...
Did you read the link I posted???
Since you are using Franco kernel, take a look at your thermal settings.

now how can battery temp normally be 25-30C if the temp around is warmer(like in the sprung and summer)? the n5 doesnt have an active cooling system to cool it down lower than the surrounding temps. normal is anywhere between 0-55C for the battery(60C is shutdown battery temp. youll only see it that high if plugged in and playing games). for cpu normal is anywhere between 0-80C, with 100C being safety shutdown. and feel is no way to measure temp. just because it feels hot doesnt mean it is. an experiment to show how feel is inaccurate to measure temp.. take one glass hot water, one cold water, and one room temp water. put one hand in the hot water and the other hand into the cold water. keep both hands there for 1 minute. now put both hands in the room temp water. the hand that was in cold water will feel the room temp water as hot. the hand that was in hot water will feel the room temp water as cold. while both hands are in the same temp water, each hand will feel that the water is a different temp from the other hand.

its normal, youre not the only one that worries too much. we all do, about differing things
I don't think the phone should be shutting down during gaming that often, however. I suspect his set has changed the thermal throttling limits.

it shouldnt. but if plugged and gaming, especially intensive games, its very easy to reach thermal shutdown, even if thermal throttle is still active. but there are a very few games that will get you there as well, without being plugged in. its usually that those games arent very optimized.
Strangest thing ever...
I deleted the Fraco Kernel Updater app, and now everything is working fine.
Temperature is much cooler, and the battery life increased even more.
Everything in the updater was on basic settings, I've never changed anything in it, just used it to get updates...
Hi,
Could you please help me what to do with the overheating issue with my Nexus 5.
I bought nexus 5 recently and i noticed that when i use camera or browse in my device for more tha 3 or 4 mins, my nexus 5 will gets over heated and temperature show's 42 Degree FH and above. but still the Temp condition says Good. not sure why. I dont have any application or gams downloaded in my device. i have only app which is Whatsapp. Its strange that when i use camera for 3 mins, device gets over heated
I havn't noticed this much of over heating in another Nexus 4 or 5 phone and in other mobile devices like Samsung and I Phone.
I am very much afraid to use the device and i have raised this concern to google support india. they have sent me RMA number to return my device to OTS e-Solutions Pvt. Ltd.
OTS e-Solutions Pvt. Ltd., Bldg. No. B/6, Gala no. 6 & 7,
Prithvi Complex, Kalher Village,
Bhiwandi - 421302
they promised me that they will give me the replacement device once i return my defective piece. Not sure whether i can get replacement phone or will they repair my defective piece and send it to be back. Is that really Google provides the replacement devices for any defective piece. Please provide your thoughts.

Rajesh

if the device gets overheated, it automatically shuts down. if its not shutting down, then its not overheated. the phones cpu shutdown temp is 105C, you are not at that temp. also, you are using a quad core 2.265ghz phone, it will get hot when you use it, especially when the cpu gets seriously used, like when using the camera annd playing games. it is normal for it to get hot. your device is normal. if you send your device for a trade because of heat, you wont be happy. because your next nexus 5 will get just as hot. again, the safety shutdown temperature is 105C.

Thanks Simms for the quick reply I do understand that the smart phones gets heated. when i compared with other devices i don't see a major heat issue. Ad my phone gets heated when i browse like face book or open any daily news websites. when i close the browsing sites, temp will automatically comes down. i am worried bcoz if i sue the mobile during the outside temp of 40 and above and if my mobile gets heats up to 42 and above, what will be the situation. due to the over heat issue i used to switch off my mobile in the nights.
Will there be a replacement process in Google? Did some one got any replacement device with the same procude which i got from google? What i got the procedure for the replacement is correct? can i go ahead and send it to the address given in E-Mail? please provide your thoughts.

googles procedure is easy, they want to see if your device is defective, if it is, they will either repair or replace it. or do nothing at all and send it back. but why do you want to send it in when you know that your device is absolutely normal? that makes no sense at all.

So, if this is the case, can i get the replacement of new device or they repair and send me the old device? since they promised for replacement, after that only they created RMA. As per my understanding RMA is generated only for replacement for device, i feel. your thoughts please
Any how i will confirm with Google team again and based on their confirmation i will send my device.

Cyanogenmod 11S, possible overheating issue
Hi guys, for about roughly 2 weeks now, i've been running Cyanogenmod 11S on my Nexus 5, ever since it was on AC since last night, it has started to overheat, a lot more than usual, i've shut it down to let it cool off (for about 30 minutes) then i powered it up again, it hasn't overheated, but i'm starting to notice it's getting a little warm, when i was running stock, rooted btw, i seemed to have no problem with heating or overheating issues, especially when charging, could this be an issue, or has it been known that CM can make a Nexus 5 overheat??
If anyone is curious, this is the exact CM ROM i am using: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/development/port-cyanogenmod-11s-t2829151
-Thanks
