[Q] - Touch Diamond2, Pure Themes and Apps

Is there a Windows Phone 7 style theme working good in Diamond2?
thanks.

Yes, there are several WP7 style themes out there. But they can not get Nativity install, but require another application / core layer like: ThrottleLauncher, Host, SBP Mobile Shell etc.
There are several popular ones like:
1) Host: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=685928
2) By Fireslave for ThrottleLauncher: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=859799
There are some which does not require other Core Like:
1) Classic CHome Style: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=504716
2) MetroHome: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1169090
I have tried all these except the newer MetroHome. I liked the Host edition as that is not very heavy on Diamond2 device. The one for ThrottleLauncher is too heavy. To me the MetroHome also looks good that you can try.
When I was testing my Lite Edition ROM I liked the Host Style WP7 Theme (See attached images from that time).
So now choice if yours to test and pick your theme.
Cheers!!!

I tried several form the list, but I did not feel like they are such great as the device get slow .
From all I liked the Host and the MetroHome ones. Infact I will try the SBP Shell next week and see if It is impressive
thanks.

SPB Shell V2.0 - lag problem solved ?

I've been hearing reports from people with the Kaiser, that using SPB Shell V2.0 totally solved all lag problems when switching between different menu windows, and the device runs extremely smooth and stable (to the point it's hard to believe it doesn't have hardware video acceleration).
Can the same be said about the Touch Cruise ?
Can you post link? I might be able to work something out.
I have SPB Shell V2.0 on my Touch Cruise, and it's working extremely smooth. The response of the touchscreen is very good and the menu's are extremely smooth.
Is it possible to dissable HTC Home?

Yes, it's the same as all other plugins - setting > today
Here is a link for the SPB Shell 2.0 download page:
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/mobileshell/download.html?en
Please post your impressions with the touch cruise.
I've been running Mobile Shell 2 for a few days now - very sleek, fast, and...well, it just looks cool.
Disabled the Touch Cube, but I'd also like to disable the HTC LargeTitleBar feature (not the start menu, but the large icons when you click on the volume and phone status icons on the top title bar) Anyone have a clue?
I found a registry setting for LargeTitleBar (HKLM/Services I think), even had an "enable" flag, but setting it to 0 had no effect. It also had a delay option, but I couldn't get it to delay opening either (tried 1, 8, 500 as values).
Anyway, Moble Shell 2 doesn't seem to conflict with any of the Touchflo features, even the cube.
I have only good experience with Mobile Shell. Very fast, smooth and sleek. It's a must for everyone with the Touch Cruise, no compatibility problems.
I tried the trial version of the last V2 version and I am impressed It's rocks! Eye candy, smooth, fast, practical, . It smells good and optimised code, really. You can throw away your cube..
I just have to find a way to make it launches my Agenda One calendar functions instead of defaults windows mobile one.

Agenda One provides .lnk files for each function in the application. The Sbp Menu gives the opportunity to add items, so maybe you can add each of those links.
I uninstalled M.S. yesterday. While Shell offered some nice functions, it just seemed an unnecessary addition over TouchFlo. I did like the dialer app however. I think that if Spb could enforce the Now screen over the standard Today screen, it would help .

Manilla or SPB Shell 2.1?

I haven't found any threads directly comparing the two... I'm tired of the boring today screen and even HTC Home. Which is better on the Wizard Manilla 2D or SPB Shell 2.1? I've tried Manilla and I really like it but it takes up a lot of resources and disables some apps I've come to rely on. (Battery Status, and Smartskey) I wanted to get some opinions before shelling (he he) out the greenbacks for SPB Shell.
What a stupid question!!!
Well don't I feel like an ass... Here you guys just got Manilla working on the Wizard and I'm asking which is better. I've seen threads for Manilla for a while now and never read any of them. I wasn't really interested in Manilla until I was browsing around and saw some of the skins. I thought I'd give it a try. Since I just went in last night and downloaded it and installed it with no problem, I assumed it has been working on Wizard for a while. In my defence I did search for a comparison but found none.
i vote foe manila
Iv tryed both and Manila is wey cooler and in new to wizard, bur SPB Shell its much much usfull so its your choice
i was a big spb mobile shell user when it 2+ first hit......I must admit...I now use Noonski's rom and I enjoy the device much much more...it's somehow made for our device where as mobile shell is universal plus with all the skins and clocks being rapidly designed and made available you can have whatever flavor you like....as with mobile shell....seems lately the designs are all just versions of the same concept...where m2d is fresh and to me faster as it is cooked into the rom...I had about 43 megs left on mine after flashing and right now I'm just trying to streamline and keep about half that while piling on the goodies I usually enjoy in my phone...using a 2g sd card I'm able to run much from there....unless mobile shell upgrades to 3 I'm going to say m2d wins

I had forgotten all about this question. Thanks for the answers. I'm back on the kick again and I was wondering if you still feel the same? I have tried M2D as a add on and cooked directly into the ROM. I have still yet to try SPB Mobile Shell. I may just get off the fence and do it. Worse thing could happen is I have to flash back to my HTC Home.

I tested twice solutions, it's my opinion:
M2D:
Positive
- Very excellent look
- Very fast, reponsive
- Switch window animated
- Several weather cities
- Most smart panel
Negative
- Memory leak
- Not stable (plugin reboots unexpectly)
- Memory used (+15Mb storage and +8Mb ram) with all apps needed
- Seems doen't work with S2U2
- Get pad action when using other programs
- Task switch to front automaticaly
- Landscape problems
- cannot show multiple calendar events
- poor weather city
- Must install all HTC programs (music player, pictures, ...)
SPB shell 2.1
Positive
- Less storage and ram memory (- 5Mb ram)
- Compatible S2U2
- Skinable (look of M2D, Xperia X1, WM7)
- Stable
- Cities for weather (Valenciennes is in the list)
Negative
- Less responsive
- M2D skin very slow
- Only one city for the weather
- S2U2 weather does not work
- Cannot have the standard windows taskbar and softkeys
- Today SPB plugin different with M2D today skin window.
- Strange organization of functions...
In conclusion, there is no perfect version, I reloaded Clean Rom and re-used standard WM today screen (battery status, calendar, time, messaging...)

1) Yes there is a bit of a memory leak but with tools like QuickMenu and Oxios Hibernate you can reclaim this
2) The issues with this plugin being unstable can be overlooked by the price tag
3) What taskmanager are you using ? M2D Built into wizflo weighs in at 5mb storage and 3.5 mb ram.
4) You dont need all the HTC Programs, use M2DC to disable the tabs you dont use
Great info guys. That is the kind of input I've been looking for. Thanks.

I have tried SPB Mobile Shell many times i made my custom made configuration and i think it works great, i have never had problems with it. I was wondering that it worked fast enough on HTC Wizard. No problems with cities in weather. It consumes a bit more of RAM and storage and it is necessary to install it in the device memory. Another bad thing about SPB mobile shell is that after installing it on the Wizard it booted very slowly after soft reset it took about 2 minutes until the device boot up. But anyway all these apps M2D, SPB Mobile Shell, TouchFLO etc are looking great but i do not like em. I like standard WM today screen with battery status, messages, today agenda, it is the only way to see all the necessary things on the today screen!
BEtter?
M2D is free..
spb yooou have to buy....
I am a believer of the bet things in life are free...

PointUI basically replaces the entire today screen! It acts as a Today Screen, Start Menu, CommManager, Lock Screen, Task Manager, Contacts List, Volume Control, and probably more!
Touch scrolling (not TouchFLO) - Very smooth scrolling through everything. And, PointUI has it's own scrolling, which is extremely smooth
Speedier than the default T-Mobile ROM
T-Zones Data Plan Hack is already set up (using epc.tmobile.com)
Threaded SMS
Doesn't automatically delete your CAB's upon installation
EzInput keyboard - Finger friendly keyboard
Finger friendly Volume controls - Both the PointUI volume controls AND the Windows Mobile volume controls are finger friendly!
When in PointUI, you can use your Volume slider to navigate. Slide up to return to a previous menu, and slide down to scroll down one

Windows Live - For your Live e-mail, messenger, contacts sync, and profile status updater; Download free.

T-Zones - Who used it anyways???

Office Mobile cannot be accessed through PointUI's program launcher. Go to a Windows Mobile window (like File Explorer), press your Start button (on the phone, not on the screen), and then click Office Mobile for now.

Themed some of the Dialer screen.
Removed Sample Music files, RemoteDesktopMobile program, Transcriber, and WelcomeCenter.
---1.5--- (LZX too)
Removed CommManager (PointUI has one).
Created a PointUI spash screen.
Themed Windows Mobile to match PointUI more.

Completely themed the default Call Log inside the default WinMo dialer to match PointUI.
---2.0--- (LZX too)
Added File Explorer Enhanced.
Finished theming the Phone dialer.
Cooked in a newer version of NetCF so that most programs should work.
Added Google Maps v 3.2 (can be uninstalled if you want).
Fixed the duplicate "PointUI" shortcuts in the Applications list.
Disabled the keyboard Sliding Sound.
Added EzInput keyboard from the HTC Mega ROM
Added HTC Notification Enhancement from the HTC Mega ROM (only themes the notification windows, like a new text message window).
Removed Adobe Flash (Did anyone use it? Not that I knew of).
Removed extra ringtones.
My Thanks
I'd like to thank everyone that has cooked before me. All of the tools and instructions on how to cook were great. I'm trying to leave behind some wonderful guides on how to cook, too. Some people I would like to thank individually...
ToadLife - His kitchen is wonderful. A perfect starting point for my ROM. (He got the kitchen from Ivan, who got it from someone else, so thanks to everyone before ToadLife!)
Ivan - An awesome cook who wrote wonderful guides. He's always willing to help.
The Community - You guys all make this so much fun. Keep up the feedback! (good or bad feedback)

Wow, that sounds great! Oh, but will pointui have any skins or applets added in? Because whenever I installed it, I never completely liked how limited the default applets were.

Remember, this is PointUI v 1.51a
PointUI v 2 (pointui.com) is the one that has a bunch of skinning abilities and installable applets.
But, I included the "old" version since it's different, and I like it more. I was disapointed with the new "remodeled" version that they made (pointui v 2), so I went back to the old one.
Sooo....Answering your question...skinning is very limited with this. It is possible, but there aren't many skins out there, since no one is really developing for the old version. They all moved on to version 2, where skinning is easy.
And the applets, they also aren't customizable, I believe. I'm considering making a ROM with PointUI v 2 cooked in, and then you will get full skinning/applet control. Maybe you'd like that more. Tell me what you think!
No, you're right. The main reason why I preferred PointUI 1.5 to 2 is really the lockscreen applet. It was very stylish. For some reason, the lock applet is exclusive to the pro version of PointUI 2. Besides, 1.5 is probably lighter than 2. So 1.5 would be the better choice for memory.

Yea. I haven't looked at 2.0 for a while. And I don't like paying for things.
But, if you'd like to test this ROM, I'm uploading it to Skydrive right now...Slow connection, but it'll go up there soon.
Download link is up there now. Still a pre-release, but you can download and try it out. (.7z compressed, so use 7zip to extract!)

I tried it, but I couldn't get it to work. Then I figured I should just try to make a working Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM, modify it, and learn how the kitchen works. Heck, I've only been "cooking" for 3 days now. I gotta learn a lot, I think. And it's tough finding a really quality guide online.
About the PointROM...I created v 1.2 now. Just some minor changes (working on removing extra crap and theming the OS). The Skydrive uploads will see day of light on every .5 versions. So 1.5 will be the next up there (around tomorrow).
Can anyone create Windows Mobile theme files??? (.tsk) I need some help with that. If anyone could find or create a PointUI theme for the Windows Mobile part of the OS, then that would be awesome. I had no luck with it. I'm also working on skinning the dialer (I might include Phone Canvas) and also replacing all of the WinMo icons so that they match PointUI. If anyone could create the .tsk theme, that'd be great.

Sure, I could do it. I have a theme maker lying around here somewhere. Could you just give me the background graphic that pointUI uses? That way I could use that as a reference. Since it's a 6.1 theme, it won't have fancy transparencies or stuff that the 6.5 themes do, just a basic gradient at most. Also, downloading and flashing now. (though that seems a waste if you're going to post a new release tomorrow...)

Well the next release shouldn't be anything major. I make minor changes so that if anything goes wrong, I can change it.
And I couldn't really find the PointUI background anywhere. I say, just use the background color from the Applications menu inside PointUI. I have that color attached. It's a solid color. Then I guess the top and bottom bars should be a lighter blue than the attached file. That would look good. And you should make them the glossy bars, not those flat ones that lots of ROM's use now. Think you can do that? That would be awesome. I could cook you a special ROM version with some of your programs cooked in or something, if you'd like.
Oh, you know what, you should try to make the background image so that there's that little blue glowing bar at the bottom. You can see it in the attached image, right at the bottom.
So can you make that work as the background? It's a pretty simple image. And anyways, the Today screen won't ever really be seen, so it's no big deal. What I care more about are the WinMo Bars theme. Make those a nice PointUI-ish blue gloss color. Use your phone and screenshots as a reference. If you need more PointUI screenshots, I've got them all on my computer.
I look forward to seeing the theme!

LZX is no problem. The most trouble about an LZX version is uploading it...my connection is slowwww. But yea, I'll make LZX, how about on the 1.5 release?
All in all, a nice ROM, there's just the problem of it being nearly stock. Many of the nice things that make WinMo a joy to use (nice SIPs, finger-friendly enhancements, task managers) aren't there. Of course, this is just an alpha build, so I'm sure all of the improvements are on the way! (also, keeping voice command is a nice touch, especially since I got a new headset)

Finger-friendly enhancements - It's PointUI!! How more friendly could you get!! And then the soft menu's are a little larger than stock. Honestly, tell me what can be improved, and I'll work on it.
Task Manager - PointUI IS a task manager. From the home screen, click on Applications and then on Currently Running. There you can go into a running program and then close it (by tapping on the Start Menu while in the app, and then clicking Force Close. How would you like that improved? (I can't change anything inside PointUI, remember)
SIP (On-Screen Keyboard) - Yea, I know. It's the default WinMo one. I'll change it sometime, possibly. Recommend a keyboard for me to cook in, then.
Voice Command - I figured I'd keep that in, especially since that dam iPhone has it (and acted like they invented it, like they do with everything).
But it seems like you're liking it so far!! V 1.5 will be coming up soon, with more complete theming. V 2.0 might be more of a full release. Tell me what you think!
Just looked at your screenshots...You're not supposed to even use the old Today Screen!! The point is that it's a PointUI ROM! That's why I did nothing with the Start Menu's size, because you will never touch the Start Menu. But yea, I like that keyboard. Give me a link or name to the keyboard.

About 22 MB Free RAM, and about 37 MB free Storage Space upon booting it up (with PointUI running).
After using the phone for a few hours (running Internet Explorer, etc), I closed all of the apps, and RAM was at about 18 MB. So, it holds up pretty well!
I'm not writing up everything about this ROM yet, since it's ever changing. Expect that storage space to increase as versions go.

PointUI freezes, right? That's not really "frozen", it's a bug in PointUI. When trying to scroll through a list (usually the Applications list), scrolling freezes, and no touches on the screen are registered. But, it still works by using your D-Pad. So, go up to the Return arrow with your D-Pad, and then your touchscreen will be working again.

[INQUIRY] Easy Question

There is a theme called Blue Eye for TouchFLOW phones like my Viva. I wanted to know can I use it on QVGA even if it is VGA, I would like to modify it. Is this possible?
I used to modify skins before. Just that was 5.0... I just got a Viva now and wanted to really start cracking. I'll be applying SPB Shell 3.5.3 (Latest) and the ProPlus Elegance Skin Ultimate. If I cannot get Blue Eye functional.
I'm a graphics and web designer as well so no need to worry And I had made an iPhone layout a long time ago for the HTC Wizard about 2 years ago. Mainly just a debunk version of iFonz.

A ROM with a different purpose ?

At present I'm using trhe newest Energy ROM. Nice work.
I just wondered if there was any ROMs made for easy of visual use.
I'm a but long in the eye now and find using the phone sometimes a strain on my eyes. Age and all that
The Energy ROM is very good but I probably only use about 1/20th of the apps and stuff it loads. Some of the ones it installs I don't even know what they do
I would love to see a ROM made for vision clarity, bigger fonts and more simple but just as useful front screens.
Is there any of the cooks that can advise me on this ?
Thanks
maybe it's not a rom, but a software that you need, like point ui : http://www.wm6software.net/utilities/pointui_1_5.html
not the lame 2.0 which tries to do exactly the same as touchflo, spb etc, but the 1.5, which was very very eye and finger friendly, especially on small screens like the one on touchpro, with big icons, big texts, big lists etc..
so can I get a ROM with none of this HTC touch slide screen and Sense, maybe just a really basic front end.
well I've installed that app, started it and all I get is a blue blob start up screen than nothing happens.
Rom
If you are looking for a simple rom with a good user interface I usually go back to the basic Euro Touch pro rom. I then add a few apps by cab that I need but I also add SPB Mobile shell to it. Retains all the hardware funtionality. I of course turn off TF3D.
SPB can replace your start menu and for bigger fonts go to start\settings\system\screen and enable cleartype and adjust your font size.
When I install this rom I usually install the following apps for basic and a little advanced user functionality:
SPB Mobile shell 3.5 (UI) -Worth the money-
Advanced config 3.3 (changing pagepools and storage locations)
Total Commander 2.5 (self-explanatory)
GPSTest 1.04 (for GPS locking)
SKtools (easy tweaking and cleaning-latest version-I bought it at pocketgear.com)
Bing (directions, searching, Navigating etc.)
Lumos (latest version for backlight control)
Touch Response (latest version-simulated haptive feedback)
Microsoft MyPhone (Secondary sync)
Of course it is all based on taste. Just thought I would stick that out there for ya.
Font size is at its largest, isn't enough
I have to say out of whats on the phone with this energy ROM i think I only use 3 things, and one is now missing in the new ROM.
Phone
Wi-Fi Router
Notes and Tasks.
Google Maps
Facebook
SMS
Freecell
Mostly hooked up to my PC with MyMobile so I can use my big screen. never browse now as the screen is to small.

Why don't you try my Titanium ROM then ? It's pretty basic, IMO
Trouble I have is reading through all the threads on a ROM, theres just to much old rubbish per thread. I can't filter out whos going on about which version and which ROM is which.
Pruning should be compulsory
They get all wrapped up in tech speak and CHt HTc DDL ROM RAM NND GGH OOH, which doesn't mean a thing to me, or probably a lot of people
Ill try yours out now
What else would I need. I want the Wi-Fi and a few tools but none of the
ArkSwitch ( no idea what it is)
Backup Fav ( never use Fav to start with)
CHT ( turned that off straight away)
Shake and whatever ( why)
World Card ( Useles)
XDA UC ( no idea)
BINg
well you get the picture
There was a good simple task manager in the last ROM but its missing now
And I liked the page with all short-cuts to you most used apps. It looked like the iPhone, very handy to use.
TAEL roms are pretty good
OK I'm lost wheres the Energy Titanium please

TAEL, is that a ROM type or the maker of the ROM ?
Thanks
Rom
Yes TAEL is the chef of the rom.
I am currently using captains manilla 2.1 rom. Pretty basic uses the old TF3D type interface. but still has newer features. The only thing missing would be the facebook app. but that can be installed via cab. Seems to be simple enough yet has plenty of tools to get the job done. It has the simple HTC task manager as well.
Does Pointui.Home.1.5a.Wm5. work on it
Ahh I see it says WM5 I wonder if that why it doesn't work on mine.
Trying the Cpts one, systems font seems smaller and I can't seem to find any O2 UK set up cab anywhere
Font size???
It does enlarge through screen settings but I can try and find a magnifier that could swipe across the screen. Of course most of the chefs have knowledge enough to make a "handicapped" rom as microsoft sells it in windows. (Magnifier , speech etc.)
What would be good is an App like the iPhone one that turns the phone into a magnifier. I could deff use that when I was out to read labels and small stuff.
Using
TAELROM_v4.23569_STANDARD_21MAY10
Cpts one I couldn't get the O2 settings for.
i have found something that might help you http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/System-Utilities/Enhancements/WinMobile-Magnifier-27412.shtml
Well I gone and brought an iPhone, please don't shout , Only way I can see if it is suitable for me is hands on.
Probably wrong place to ask but anyone recommend a decent iPhone forum ?
Thanks
Still got the HTC so all is not lost
