(Q) New phone. Sensation or Evo3D? - General Questions and Answers

Yeah, need a new phone, but should it be the Sensation or the Evo3D? Gonna root the sh*t out of it, so I will keep that in mind

What do u prefer a 3D-screen or Full-HD camcorder?
I would say both phones are almost the same ... let the dice decide

Sensation comes with a dice app which is handy for choosing

Sensation. 3d is a gimic really

I would agree with this, ultimately you're getting the same device under the hood. The Evo 3D does have 1GB of RAM, where the Sensation has HTC's favorite, 768 MB of RAM. Dual 5MP cameras to one 8MP cam. Both qHD, both 4.3 in screens, blah blah blah. Evo's battery life is worse than the Sensation's IIRC.
I have an Sensation on AT&T here in the states, and I'm extremely happy with it. But messing around with the Evo 3D at the Sprint stores makes me want one of those too lol. Both awesome phones, you can't go wrong really.

They are almost the same phone. You should ask yourself if you prefer Sprint or T-Mobile.

HTC Sensation. Period.

If you want Sense 3.0.. Then for sure Evo 3D Due to higher ram..
I assume Evo 3D is better. But its also more expensive.. But seems that sensation have more system support

.. evo 3D has 1GB of ram .. is the "more" really noticable ? i dont think so!

sensation will be better

htc.com/www has them both listed, just compare the specs
3d and slightly more ram but the evo has 5mp camera compared to the sensations 8mp. Personally I think 3d is a bit of a gimmick and the sensation is a better looking device.

Reviews of the EVO 3D say it lacks the lag that the Sensation has but battery life, like all WiMax and LTE phones up til this point, is completely lackluster.

damn straight! the evo 3D sticks to HTC almost-tablet styling, where as the sensation has sleek curves is is significantly lighter.
3D is 100% a gimmick thanks to movies like avatar and dark knight, the nintendo 3DS is proof of that!
I think your right looks wise the sensation wins thanks

not only that, but for the price/hardware/capabilities, i think the sensation wins all categories...pending unlock :/ and from everything ive read lately (A LOT, bored working midnights ) the evo3D will recieve bootloader unlock first (considering it was supposed to be BUIB [Bootloader Unlocked In Box]), but when the sensation gets it...whooo boy, watch out!
As for lag on the sensation, i have barely noticed any. Installed launcher pro heaps of Homescreen widgets and its still slick as you like. Multitasking is a dream!
Zero dust either!

Lucky! i have dust, but im on the fence about returning cuz i just sold my HD2 and have no replacement :/ i still use sense 3.0, loving the 3D UI since it was ported to the HD2, and it isnt slow at all, just dont load you homescreens with every htc widget available!
The absence of lag on the EVO 3D is a good thing for the Sensation! I don't believe that it is caused by better hardware but by software optimization! This means that we have to expect the same performance on our sensation when it gets future updates!
The difference is basically more RAM/better FFC on the EVO and a better rear facing camera/1080p video recording on the Sensation. The Sensation also has an aluminum unibody while the EVO is mainly plastic. In the end, it's up to the user to decide which features are more important.

The EVO 3D has 1GB of RAM versus 768MB in the Sensation. That certainly contributes to a lag-free experience.
EDIT: aNYthing24 beat me to it.
Hold both phones in my hand side by side the EVO 3D doesn't feel nearly as good in your hand. Amazing what a few fractions of a MM make, and the way the bodies curve the Sensation feels about 1/2 the thickness of the EVO. The Sensation just dissapears when you put it in your pocket. You can feel the big slab of plastic of the EVO in your pocket. Function wise they perform about the same for me. More RAM is always welcome.
quit making a big deal about ram! yes more is always better but if you owned a hd2 and seen how smooth it ran android then you would know that the ram that the sensation has is more then enough. unlock bootloader and stock android, or an OTA updates is going to do this phone justice! i would stick with the sensation as its just a nicer looking phone!

I bought an EVo 3d a few days ago, and the 3D features were cool, but not cool enough that I'd make it my full-time phone. One advantage it has is it always has 200-250 mb or more of available memory, whereas the Sensation normally has around 100mb.

If it's not software related can you explain to me why the sense 3.0 port on the DHD runs smoother than on Sensation and EVO 3D ????
I love the design of the sensation but i feel they could have made it so much better by copying the evo 3d a little.
I personally love a dedicated camera button so seeing that on the evo 3d and not the sensation was a little disappointing.
The placement of the charging port is a little more than frustrating when trying to text or even play with the sensation with 2 hands, i like how the evo 3d is located at the top instead of the bottom.
Another little annoyance is the over 200mAh difference in batteries between the two devices. Im sure like stated before they decided to go with a bigger one on the evo due the the battery drain of sprints 4g phones
Obviously these LITTLE things arnt that big of a deal as i would still choose the sensation over the evo 3d again and again

It's no gimmick. It's actually a pretty damn cool feature. I thought it was a gimmick too but HTC really did a good job making the first stereoscopic device. The green hornet in 3d looked pretty sweet.
edit: the big difference to me is the size. The E3D is huge...I mean heavy as in Thunderbolt heavy. To some that's a good thing to others its a negative.
I did the same thing. EVO 3D is IMO head over heels faster than the Sensation when i first tried it out. The 3D i thought i was gonna ignore it because i thought it was a gimmick too, but i ended up freaking loving it and taking 3D pics left and right. The front frame is also made of metal so it feels like a tank and i feel better knowing i have more ram also to help with the futureproofing.
What i do miss are the data speeds, Sprint sucks at this since i dont have wimax where i live and 3G speeds are embarrasing. But my bill is chraper so whatever lol

Yes return it and get a SENSATION....Sendations are what Walmart sells lol....
I have no contribution...just wasting a post

Should I trade?????;

So there's a guy who will give me a new sealed G2X and $100 for my sensation now I had the g2x before and before it got the ota 2.3.3 but the only reason i would be reason I would be trading is for the pure speed of the g2x because let's be real our sensation is slow I mean I have full s-off and custom ROM with no sense and my quadrant still blows Mabey 1800 to 2100 how is that ? Please tell me thats not for long and its only because the roms suck right now on the sensation? So there you have it i love everything else about the sensation specs are better then the g2x but the speed will have you think otherwise Should i trade or wait?

My Phone is for benchmarking only, too!
Man put TouchWiz on the Sensation and have a look again! Sense is huge! And the g2x is not faster
Have you used the g2x it blows the sstion out speed wise and i have a sensation its just faster but I don't know why I wanna keep my sensation because like i said the specs are better nobody wants to say it but we all know the Tegra2 has the uperhand ....

I have the G2X and no it doesn't blow the Sensation out of the water. First off, before I removed Sense, the Sensation has always opened apps and interacted with apps faster than the G2X. It also loads Google Maps faster as you scroll through the map. Browsing has always been smoother while scrolling through the pages and the two games I play the most, run smoother on the Sensation. Really the only thing the G2X was faster at was the UI but now that I am using ADW with Sense removed, my Sensation us as fast as my G2X. If you want, I can show you a video of how fast my Sensation is.
I care more about real life experience rather than what some beanchmark is telling me. Quite frankly, I don't even believe most of these benchmarks as I don't think there using our asynchronous processor correctly.

Lol, take it from me. DO NOT GET THE G2x. Even Tmobile and LG are trying to wash their hands off it right now. If it does get an update or the so called update in few weeks, it will most likely be the last. I seriously doubt they will be able to fix ALL the problems. I was lucky enough to get exchange my G2x for Sensation and so far it has worked right. The one thing that didn't work for me and i needed was BT A2DP. The random reboot i could deal with but imagine you are talking to someone and bam, your phone is rebooting. You wake up the the sound of your phone rebooting .... Please read up on the G2x forum and don't say we didn't warn you.
PS: Make sure if you do get it that the 14days grace period is valid and go from there.

It should record 1080p at 30fps in well lit situations. Doesn't do so well in situations with no light.
I'm definitely disappointed with the sensation 4g. It lags a lot in my opinion. While sense is a beautiful UI, it is just to heavy. I bought this phone off contract ( 549.99 Plus tax) thinking this would be it. The fast phone that I have been waiting for and I swore to myself to not buy another samsung phone but looks like I'm gonna get the Hercules or whatever galaxy s 2 is coming to tmobile. At the end of the day you have to see what's best for you. I honnestly do not care about the ahs display, its very nice don't get me wrong, but I rather have the wvga phone that is just smoother on a day to day basis. Iam almost certain that a lot of people are a bit disappointed with the sensation. The truth is it underwhelms. Come on 1.2 GHz dual core and it lags?
It lags? Haven't noticed it really. Been using Leedroid since day one (yesterday) and adw launcher.
The o2x is a disappointment like all lg phones. They should just stick to something they are good at like televisions.
On paper it's great but software is trash.

Gs4g is alright but you will run out of app storage if you like alot of apps, only has 344 MB free out of the box. That's like 700 MB less then sensation. And the gs4g screen does have a good screen but sensation is way better. The difference is darker colors are richer on gs4g, gs4g not dial core, gs4g is laggy even rooted with a custom rom, big step down from sensation I have to say. Personally I wouldn't trade. Sensation is a better phone and get a 8,16, or 32 gb SD card and throw ur music on it and that takes place of itouch. But its up to you.

The galaxy has an amoled display that is pretty much far superior to the one we have. The sensation just has a higher resolution. Although the amoled has a weird bluish tint to it. As far as software goes, the galaxy s ain't nothing unless you root it and throw ... Cm7 for example, on it. The graphics rendering is faster on galaxy as well. Sesation has better battery life and build quality.
As far as processor goes, people just got to stop buying into the while 1.5 ghz or 1.8ghz bs. Our sensation wouldn't be $h*t without faux's kernel. Plus, our phones being dual core and all don't mean much as well until android is written to fully take advantage of two cores. Hopefully android ice cream sandwich will do the trick.
Samsung has the worse software support on the planet, I came from an epic 4G, I know trust me. The sensation is better because of the awesome software our devs put out. Still a long way to go, but it gets better every day. I just can't wait for cm7 on this bad boy

Why to get a Sensation?

Ok, as a current Desire user I'm getting more and more tempted to switch to a Sensation (and seeing as a lot of Desire devs are jumping ship to other devices).
Anyone care to give me some reasons for making the switch? I've had my trusty Desire for over 18 months but I'm getting itchy fingers to get something new? So...
Why get a Sensation?
Thanks.
I think that's a question for you to answer. Do you see any features in the Sensation that you want that are not available in the Desire?
If yes, are these features important enough for you to decide to switch phones?
If yes, switch. If no, don't.
Sensation is a good phone, but every phone has its quirks and every opinion is relative. Take all biased reviews and suggestions with several grains of salt. Good luck!

I had the desire before I recently upgraded to the sensation. I've had the sensation for 6 weeks now.
Reasons to upgrade:
Larger screen 4.3 inches

8 megapixel camera with dual led flash
1080p video recording

In my opinion, yes.
My Vibrant always ran slower than my glacier, even when both have identical cm7 setups and oc. Ram was the missing link.
My glacier with oc runs better than sensation without, even though the glacier is only a single core.
Both glacier and sensation have 768mb ram.

I upgraded to sensation because the physical buttons on my desire started to get loose and weren't responsive. Very happy with it so far, mostly notice the much bigger screen (like a pocket tablet) and sense 3.0. Build quality is very sturdy and design is beautiful/minimal, exactly what I was looking for. I would highly recommend it if you have the cash.

Totally agree but I guess at least it has some sort of front camera.
wait.
my advice is to wait if you can. The Sensation is limited. Its good for now, but with Ice cream sandwich coming soon HTC is going to put the Sensation and the Amaze in its rear view (if you are a T-mo customer). I was going to get the Amaze in march, but what is the point? Even the XE is a gimmick.
You don't want to wait for HTC to hand out the ICS upgrades either. Besides, the industry standard 1 gig RAM is not in the sensation and the internal storage is poor. There will be a phone that is up to par (with ICS) from HTC by April.

Sensation 4g vs G2x

So I side purchased a HTC sensation to compare wit our G2x and I have to say the G2x is not even comparable with it. The games run so horrible laggy on the sensation and the screen is so unclear compared to IPS display. The only good thing is the camera and even so it still performs horribly in dark places compared to the great flash and focus of the G2x. Here is where Tegra's chip making is superior and I noticed everything from battery life to app loading, multi tasking and even ICS performance was better even if the Sensation has leaked official firmware. So props to all the devs that have made our G2x comparable to such phones as the HTC Sensation and more.

I think HTC phones are ugly too.
I wish I had a Sensation.

I traded it for a HTC Wildfire S because of its condition but I'm kind of regretting it :/ Its a good phone but I'm to accustomed to my G2x power.

Briefly. Owned a MT4G for a long time before I traded it for this G2x, and loved it. Can't imagine the Sensation being any worse.

Did you root the sensation and flash custom roms and launcher? Give us some more details on the testing you did. Lotta factors go in to determining a good comparison, processor, UI, battery etc...

Yes, full s-off & ran various gingerbread systems including sense, stock, aosp, and miui. But to be fair, since I'm running CM9 on my G2x I loaded Android Revolution ICS Sense 3.6 and even alpha Sense 4.0 to compare ICS functionality. Through out 2 weeks I tested battery life and that's how I came to the conclusion that the G2x is overall better. Their is way more devs on the sensation but because of the size most of each ROM or mod is very unsupported unlike our community where we have a few but very dedicated devs with amazing rom's.

i owned a evo 3d which is very similar and its not a bad phone. you guys have better dev support honestly.
I dont play games.......so i cant say anything about that
The G2X does have a better display i feel, the hi rez evo 3d one was ehhhh.....
i do miss the larger screen just a little bit but not too much. for me...(abq, nm) I finally get 4g ish speeds. usually 3-5 mbits down everywhere in my city.

I have both also. I am selling my sensation because the screen is crap compared to the G2X.

I love the qHD rez of the Sensation, but after playing with them for around 15 minutes, I liked the G2X more. The screen is brighter, clearer, I like the aesthetics of it, and the 1.3 mp FFC compared to the VGA on the Sensation. The Sensation was thinner I think, but also a bit slower. Not sure if this had to do with Sense running the whole time or the Snapdragon CPU being crap. It has 768 MBs of RAM compared to our 512, so I thought it would handle multitasking better.

I really wanted the sensation because I do like the look of the HTC devices. Now I want an Amaze but I am very content with the G2x. May pick one up to play around with at some point.
At one point of time I swore by HTC device. After exploring around with different manufacturers ie Samsung, LG etc. I'm not so thrilled by their lower hi class devices such as the Sensation, Evo 3D etc.
I have had my share of ppcs, androids and etc. I adore the performance of my G2x and tegra 2.

+1 I've owned HTC, Samsung and LG devices and I would put HTC's hardware as dead last out of the bunch. I use a co-worker's Sensation pretty often and there is no comparison between the two devices. The camera, the lone redeeming quality of the Sensation, takes pictures that look good on the device, but terrible once you view them in full size on a tablet or computer. I was tempted to get a Sensation when I bought the G2X because it had a fully functional ICS ROM (albeit one that is a Sense ROM with Sense stripped instead of AOSP). I'm glad I chose the G2X. The Sensation is not a bad phone, just not a great one either.

Heck yeah.. That's very close to my experience also. I'm very glad I choose the G2X too.
When i was shopping around for a T-Mobile device I was looking to go back to a up to date sense device. I read that HTC is going to slim down on sense on future device so it doesn't tax the ram as much as it do.
