Can't watch any movie at all - LG Optimus 3D

Two weeks ago I hard bricked my LGP920 (firmware update screen) and last week I got a replacement through LG's 24-hour service, but the phone has had a problem from the beginning: I can't play any videos. At least not properly.
I haven't rooted my device, it's running on T-mobile and version v10d.
When I record a video and try to watch it it simply says "can't play video"
The 3D videos that were on the phone were all green and blocky
Youtube videos are also green and blocky.
It doesn't matter whether they're in 3D or 2D
The strange thing is:
I can make pictures, watch pictures, make the videos themselves, play games, do whatever all without any problems.
When recording a video I can see the preview just fine, the playback is broken though...
Sometimes the video recorder (stock) crashes to homescreen right after pressing "stop recording"
I've tried the LG software update, it didn't make any difference.
I've also tried resetting to factory settings from android's recovery menu, no luck.

I cant suggest an answer but I can say that the problems you describe often happen on computers where it needs a specific video codec installed and maybe something is missing on the phone you have.
You could try playing videos with a different player and see if they then play properly, if they do it would suggest a problem specific to the video player I think but other than clearing its cache from the phones settings I cant suggest a solution.

I agree with you that it looks like a codec problem.
I've tried the stock media player, the youtube app and the ES File browser media player. All act the same.
I forgot to mention this:
Sometimes the video recorder (stock) crashes to homescreen right after pressing "stop recording"
Sometimes, very rarely, I manage to record a video that does play, but it will be a black screen with only the sound...

Have you tried resetting it to factory settings? Worth a try before trying to get a replacement best of luck!

Yes I have
Also I just tried formatting the SD. No luck.

I just tried recording a video and playing it on my computer.
The sound works kind of ish, but this is a screenshot of VLC playing it:

So you don't know the solution?

Thats what vlc looks like when playing a low resolution video that it cannot decode properly, which is odd as the picture should be much bigger. If on vlc you go to the menus and click the menu option (second menu from right I think) that says media information it will show you the resolution and codecs used.
It will at least help determine if its a codec (on phone) problem or a recording malfunction. Was the video high definition or 3D?

Cupcake video recording details needed.

I'm wondering what the specs are for video recording under android 1.5/cupcake?
What resolutions will this phone do? What frame rates will those resolutions handle? What video and audio format does it record to?
I've looked around, but have not found anything this specific with regards to cupcake...
Anyone have any details?
Nobody has any idea?
Can anyone with cupcake installed tell me what options are available in the video recorder?

It records 3gp video, but I don't know what codec it uses.
The options are only for high quality or lower quality.
One of the HTC builds that I've triend also had a choice between differenc codecs, one of them being MPEG-4 (can't remember the second one).
I've recoded a short clip, you can inspect it and see what codecs it uses: http://www13.zippyshare.com/v/39463944/file.html

I was able to play it on VLC in Linux (Ibex), but it had no sound, so only video. Overall the quality was pretty good (for cell phone standards), and there is an option to auto upload/publish to youtube which is kind of neat

I have no sound either. It must use some weird non-standard sound codec.

This was HQ. LQ is for MMS messages.
It does have audio, using the (S)AMR codec (Adaptive Multi-Rate). This codec is not shipped with precompiled versions of VLC due to legal issue. You can get it if you compile yourself.
Read this under "important legal notice": http://www.penguin.cz/~utx/amr

[Q] Video loop error on rooted HTC explorer

I recently rooted my HTC Explorer.. Everything was fine till last night. When I played an avi video file (video H264 and audio mp3) in the default player, the video stopped after few seconds.. and I had to manually start the playback.. This happened every 10-15 seconds.. When I used 3rd party app such as MX video player, the video paused and started again from the same point... In both cases, it's very annoying
The only root apps I have are titanium backup, droidwall, Cache cleaner NG and link2sd.. And this error has started occurring out of nowhere.. I have attached a screenshot of log below.. I think this has something to do with OMX flushed issue.. I searched around in here for the same error but could not find any definitive answer. Has anyone faced this and is there any solution?

have you tried with different files? try downloading the video/film from somewere else or downloading a video with the same characteristics (video H264 and audio mp3). I guess is a file error.
Yes I have.. I tried diff codec, video files, lowered the resolution of videos, diff FPS but no luck

well, im sorry I cant help you much, you should have touched some system files, the only way i see to fix it right now is installing a rom, if you do not have a problem with the language in it..english Ok for you?
---------- Post added at 10:40 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:33 AM ----------
try cleaning dalvik cache, see if that helps
u can do it with link2sd
reboot phone inmediately after
Tried clearing the dalvik cache.. didn't help.. Is installing a new ROM the only way? and yes I use english only..

then no problem, just make a backup of your apps and data and flash it.
I have already made backup of all apps.. Where can I get that ROM? and I guess the official ROM isn't out yet right? any tut on flashing?
sure check my signature I created a stock based rom with a2sd, no need of link2sd anymore
I found a temporary solution.. I tried several combinations of video players and files encoded using diff codecs. The error was consistent with all video formats including avi (H264 and xvid/divx both), MP4, mpg, mkv and flv.
Default player - When error occurs , video gets paused and you have to manually resume playback
MOBO player - When error occurs, video is interrupted for about 1 sec but resumes playback.. sometimes it returns to main menu.
MX Video Player - When error occurs, if you have screen lock on, screen is unlocked showing control bar.. video is interrupted for about 1-1.5 seconds but resumes playback automatically.
QQPlayer - When error occurs, video is interrupted for barely milliseconds, and if you have screen lock on, control bar does not pop up. I think for now I have to live with this...

Just got it. Brilliant app all it needs now is to support actual live streams
somehow xD
Really is amazing tho.
I'm sick and tired of it not only pausing YouTube videos without the ability to resume after locking the screen (iPhone can do this), but also dumping the buffer and rebuffering when you unlock.
Even being able to do something while the live-streaming audio plays in the background or the buffer fills would be greatly appreciated.
Dude I'm sure it'll get a few updates and stuff no need for the complaining.
And iPhone can't do this mate.

Wow. You totally misinterpreted me. I was complaining about something that Android can't do in hopes that someone would do something like it with something like this. iPhone CAN play a YouTube video while locked. It automatically pauses, but bringing up the lockscreen controls will let you resume and hear the audio. It saves battery life and lets you listen with the phone in your pocket without risk of accidental interaction. iPhone will also let you play and hear YouTube while doing other things by using AVRCP Bluetooth or multi-tasking playback controls. I never for a second thought that it actually lets you view the video when you do other things: It only lets you resume playback and HEAR it.

they already make this...
a quick market search from "youtube stream" it plays the audio in the background, and there have been apps before this that do the same thing.

Thanks. I wish Google would see the need. They flush the buffer when YouTube locks so that even unlocking it requires me to buffer again to resume playback! It's "finish now or suffer" with the stock app.

People have been recording video from the HDMI output, although I believe HDCP will kick in if you try to watch a movie via Google Movies.

I am aware of software / apps that can capture video; however fraps is not available as an android application (as far as I know). Additionally fraps affects your framerate and whatnot when you play, unless you have a really overkill PC.
I'd like to capture video of Android games. There are some apps like Screencast etc that are software solutions, however again they are software based, affect your framerate, and screencast is not currently compatible with Tegra.
Hardware screen capture products (capture cards, elgato, etc) have several advantages over software based solutions like fraps. They don't affect your framerate, and some have hardware video encoding. Elgato has hardware h264 encoding.
If google movies activates HDCP anyway to disable it or should it just be off when the app is closed?
I'm asking because I had no problem recording my games with my avermedia gamebroadcaster HD but all of a sudden i cant record anything not even the homescreen because it says HDCP protected and the only thing I can think of that I last did was bought that free elf giveaway on the play store.
I am not trying to record anything but some emulators which used to work just fine.
Any ideas?
I'm also having trouble recording with a PVR

Video streaming?

Hi there!
What is the best way to get the videos, with subtitles (.srt), on my TV?
I am trying AllCast (still testing the free version - only 5 min of streaming) in my Apple TV. For photos, it works fine, but for .avi videos, it does not. Is it an AllCast issue with this video format?
I also have a Chromecast, but it is still in the box... I will learn about it soon... Is Chromecast the best option? If so, what are the best apps, or video player, I should have in my Nexus 9?
Regards!
Chromecast is hands down the best way to stream to the tv. Unbox that thing, and get an app called popcorn time.

Chromecast + BubbleUPnP and it's window server to transcode video on the fly + Servioo
For more movies showbox android app
I have to say Plex. I knew nothing about it when I set it up, but instructions were easy to follow. their support forums have some great people to help.
Plex handles and transcodes all my videos, and handles SRT files fine. I also like Plex because it can be used on so many platforms (home computer, tablets, phones, gaming consoles. etc)

Popcorn time has its own streaming built in ie the cast button in the app once the video is playing. That will always be full screen when casted to the tv from within the app. For other video players when casting from the utility built into android l, youll have to change the aspect ratio in your tv settings under pucture section. I hope that all makes sense, i know its a little wordy. Let me know if you have any questions.
