Echoing on calls? - HTC Inspire 4G

My friend has an Inspire, which has Juicy47's near-stock Telus A9192 ROM and the recommended radio, properly flashed.
He noted (as have I) that while he has no sound problems himself, people talking to him hear an echo, but only when on the actual handset, not over Bluetooth or speakerphone.
Why would this be the case? It does not sound like the typical "tinny" audio issue.

I have this on my stock phone. People also say I sound like I'm under water as well. No idea what the cause is and never really looked into it

I have had the echo on various phones for ATT throughout the years. It comes and it goes. I believe it to be more of a carrier issue than a phone issue. Does it happen ALL the time and with EVERYONE?

Any workaround to the over-digitized sound issue yet?

So I used the inspired-dhd-afr003, but I'm having the issue many others are complaining about... the sound on the earpiece and speakerphone are quite digitized sounding.
Seems like it should be possible to apply the original AT&T one, because it was crystal clear, but I'm wondering if anyone's come up with a resolution for the issue yet.
Thanks as always!
only way for 100% sound is the rooted stock rom in the same thread as v003.
What he said^^^ Jasons fix is pretty darn good though.

What's Jason's fix? Also, if I install the rooted at&t Rom will my HSUPA go back to restricted?

Possibly - However editing the build.prop file via root explorer should allow you to get it back, see this thread:

Call quality?

sorry if has been answered. Ived looked around here. Anyone ever have someone complain when their talking to them on the phone that they sound muffled or robotic? Or even underwater sound? I have full bars and all. So I don't see what's up with that? Anyone have same issues or how to resolve it?

Weird. Well I called big red and they did something. My prl is now just 1 instead of that 15***. I had it changed to 13*** before but never seen just 1. But now my call quality is awesome... I can hear better
Meant to put this on the q&a

I have the same issue with sound on the other end being muffled, and others have trouble hearing me also. How would I go about changing my PRL to 1 to try it out?
You can't VZW has to.

I've had this problem from day 1. A bunch of different techs from VZW have looked into it and changed stuff on the backend and still no luck. :-(

I haven't noticed any issues and I got the phone on launch day.
Here is a thread on Android Central that we've been trying to do some testing about this issue:

Speaker phone sounds weird though some time

I have been told that the voice quality isn't the best by some people but I have listened to a voicemail I left on someones phone and it sounded fine to me.

[Q] Rogers I727 Volume

Hi,
I have scoured various forums and haven't found a workable solution.
My Rogers SII LTE has noticably low call volume. It's mostly when using the handset, but even with earphones. Music and other audio is fine.
It's especially bad when I try to use any VoIP apps, cannot hear the other side at all if there is background noise.
I have been into a service mode, but the audio adjustments do not seem to save.
Anyone else having this issue? Or better, a fix?
thx
No one else with an SII with problems hearing callers?
Maybe something is wrong with your handset? I have no audio issues at all in calls, even on various ROMs.

thanks for the reply. You might be right. I am having occasional USB charging issues also, might be related.
Looks like its mostly when using voip apps. Can't explain it.

Same problem here.
Often I have to turn volume up to max to get a "normal" call volume.
I have a similar issue... Voice calls on my headset are very light on both ends of the call. I have to yell for the other end to hear me clearly

It's a problem with the software that comes on the phone. When I switched to ics that problem went away for me.

Is it all the time? When my gf uses her phone through the car speakers with the aux to talk to me, I sometimes hear my voice echo.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
it is all the time, no using bluetooth or anything, jsut regular call, it's done this on stock ICS ROM, and every TW ROM since...
I just traded it in for a new one today (since was within 14 days) it did this on the two testers in the store and on the new one, so to me. its the phone.
after much research, it seems this helps
Call dialer-settings-advance settings-turn off noise reduction.

Need help with voice calls

Hey guys I'm running the cataclysm ROM with Franco r25 kernel. Every time I'm on the phone with someone they say I sound very muffled. But when I do a audio recording of myself it sounds clear. I'm also on T-Mobile. Would it be T-Mobile or the phone?

This could be one of a few things:
1. It could be your network
2. You may be speaking wry loudly into the microphone
3. It could be a microphone issue like other people are having.
Personally I would believe it's a software issue that Google will hopefully address soon.

Here's the thing my fiance and I are both in T-Mobile. She hears me very as if I "put a pillow on top of my phone" so she says. When I talk to others they say the same thing. Now here's the weird thing when I record a voice memo it sounds crystal clear. I would think if the voice memos sound good. Then phone calls should sound good as well.

Do you wear a hat or something or maybe you are covering the top microphone with your finger? I heard that complaint when i'm laying in bed with the phone pushed up against the pillow.
