Tmo is the only carrier with 1.5 qualcomm dual core.. all others are 1.2
HTC Ruby whats that??

Holy crap! That's crazy!!! I hope it won't explode!

But Id much rather have the 1.2 gHZ Exynos than the 1.5 qualcomm.

1.2 Ghz Exynos >>>> 1.5 Ghz Snapdragon.
Snapdragon processors are complete rubbish. This alone would be a reason for skipping the damn device.
You could tell me 1.8 or 2.0 Ghz Snapdragon and I'd still pass.
I've used a European version of the G SII and boy, the Exynos is.....beautiful.
You also need to ask yourself this, will Samsung write the custom drivers for GPU acceleration? I know that they did this with the Exynos chip. But if they think the extra .3 Ghz on the Snapdragon is a reason to not write custom GPU drivers on the 220 Adreno...then, the T-Mobile Variant of the G SII line will be the most pathetic of the lot.

Supposedly it had to do with exynos not reaching 48mbps capablitiy in the us on tmos network where qualcomm would.
Data speed vs. Processor?

You're saying a new model phone has more power than an older one? That's crazy talk. >.>

As much as I would love to have this I think I'll pass. After seeing the Sensation with qHD, I'm sold.
Even though it's SAMOLED+.
Nexus Prime should be the phone to wait for. But that's just me.

Well if your interested in the sensation.. around the same time of the sgs2 release there is the HTC amaze. Essentially a sensation with what I'm assuming is the same dual core 1.5 snapdragon as the sgs2. Qhd 1080 video etc same form as the sensation

So sad no exynos. Oh well what do you do... I'll probably still end up getting one lol.

Yeah the Amaze looks good, but the sad thing is that most devs have already jumped on the Sensation. So I would be surprised if that phone even gets much development. Kinda what happened with the SGS4G.
I'll just wait till next year and skip the dual core stuff.

Looks like Ill be headed to iPhone country.
Only phone Ive been waiting patiently on isnt getting the processor that every other model, US, EU, or JP, has already? Are you serious?
Good job, Pink T. Especially right after I renewed my contract for another 2 years recently.
Id personally spit in the face of the person who thought this was a good idea. So youre telling me, we have a 2/5GB cap limit, and you want a phone getting 42mbps? So you can hit your cap limit faster? This is why youd take a SNAPDRAGON over an Exynos?
Its not even a Galaxy S II. Its the Samsung Hercules. Dont disrespect the Galaxy S II name.

Quick question. I am seriously considering the Hercules but seeing the comments about the processor makes me wonder what is the difference between the two? Is a snapdragon that bad compared to the other?

good comment, thank you ! Can you tell me any issue there?
yea s2 of course newer phone.... ours is still hanging in there though.... if your rooted your golden anyways... g2x was a joke stock.... im loving it now... holding out until tmo comes with something better/newer.. wil the sg2 work with tmo sim card?
From the tech specs, the SGSII is better in literally every way. 1.2 GHz vs 1.0 dual core processor, 1gb of ram vs 512mb, 16gb internal storage vs 8gb, there's just no comparison. At all. It doesn't even have the problem the Sensation has of a locked bootloader.
Now if it turns out to have problems, then we can talk but I've never heard any gripes. Meanwhile, we have screen bleed, reboots, overheating, and horrendously slow GPS.
I love my G2X as much as anyone, but there just is no contest; the GSII is better in every conceivable way. It even has better staying power; the G2X is probably not going to be able to run Ice Cream Sandwich, and if it does it will be VERY slow. That 1 gig is probably going to let the GSII last all the way until Jellybean.
I got SGS2 today for 740$ (I sell my phone G2x for 270$)
And....people you have no idea who is the boss !!!
I will make a lot of pictures and a lot of tests !!!
I'm talking about technical specifications !!! not about another !!!!
ITS number 1 android phone. I can easy say ist MF!! CRAZY device !! !!!!
+SGS2 are capped at 60fps (v-sync) that's why all tests showing not FULL results.
phone playing 1080p video flash better than my PC !!! I SWEAR I never see this performance in my life from any..any DEVICE !!! FROM "ANY" DEVICE !!!
you have no idea what is performance, people !!! ! CRAZY PHONE !
IF SOME ONE HAVE A CHANCE TO BUY IT !! DO IT 10000% !!!
any way I will post all pictures and new futures !

Yea true, but dude 1ghz and 1.5 ghz is only a little noticeably different, what I mean is g2x is sick quick how much faster can we get? lol ya know, still got some mean specs tho and I'm guessing cuz of the overseas version everything should be pretty easy to port over
To me we have reached the zenith of specs in the android world (albeit that will be for a short period of time). Will it have active development is the real issue to me. This phone has proven you can have killer specs yet little interest from the developer community. I wasn't here in the beginning but I have a feeling all the problems the first batch of this phone had scared everyone away and scared anyone wanting to get it away from doing so.

The Exynos is the cpu. The speed of data is controlled by the baseband. You'll have to wait and see what baseband chip they use in it.

This is what I read. Probably easier to just swap in a different processor than to create a compatibility between Exynos and a new baseband chip.
There are no baseband chips that support 42Mbps. The fastest one that I know of is the Qualcomm baseband used in the G2X which support 21Mbps.

Unfortunately, if T-Mobile is really pushing the 42mbps feature on this phone, it'll be using some variant of the Qualcomm chip, either 1.2 ghz or 1.5 ghz dual-core (some folks at the Galaxy S4G forums allegedly was informed by a rep that it will be sporting a 1.5ghz chip from Qualcomm).
If it is indeed a Qualcomm chip, I strongly suggest you guys pass, cause I know I will. If I'm not mistaken, all these phone chips are all-in-one, meaning that the GPU on the T-Mobile variant will sport some form of Adreno, maybe the 220 as found in the Touchpad?
What made the european version of the GS2 a beast was the custom drivers written by Samsung for the Exynos and its GPU. GPU-acceleration! If they swap over to Qualcomm, I'm not holding my breath for Samsung to spend money writing a custom GPU driver to push for GPU acceleration under the Qualcomm framework. If anything, to compensate for the lack of GPU acceleration, they're likely to just chuck a 1.5 ghz Qualcomm chip in there (which lends some credit to what the other guys are saying at the Galaxy S4G forum).
Just some of my thoughts. It's looking like the T-Mobile variant of the GS2 might be the weakest of the lot this time around.
Exynos > Snapdragon any day, week, year.
P.S. I've also played with the European version of the GS2 for a couple of months and boy is that phone awesome.

I really hope if it is a Qualcomm crap CPU that the sales are extremely poor. Sadly though the general public knows squat and it will most likely still sell well with the galaxy name attached to it, even though it really doesn't deserve that title.

im leaving next month for Nexus Prime/Galaxy Note
it's just a slight spec bump from the infuse, and i prefer the larger display
gs2 has a smaller battery and display, i'd rather wait for a bigger upgrade. we'll see what's going on a year from now!
I'll wait til my upgrade in May, will be better choices at that time....

I can wait a few months for AT&T's first LTE phone, and the SGS2 is only a slight spec bump from the Infuse, and it has a smaller screen... I can't go smaller now.
Staying, I dont care for SII....that is until the Rogers SII comes out cause thats gonna have LTE and 4.5" screen.

do we really know the t-mo will not be 1.2 ghz? but if it is 1.5 that's awesome. they are getting phones with exessive power lately. the sensations doesnt need all that gpu power without 3d. but i guess t-mo really wants to keep the tech geeks. they got them all with the g-1 and hd2 and i guess they know that people that passed up the iphone for those phones are gonna want to see specs.
Well I'm glad to hear. I don't wanna leave my Infuse. It's the best phone I've ever had

The European SGS II is exactly the same as the att model other than the capacitive buttons (see review on Engadget.com).
Tmobile SGS II will indeed be quad band wcdma supporting both tmo and att 3g.
While tmo SGS 2 does comes with a qualcomm 1.5ghz chip, it is inferior in processing and gaming to the 1.2ghz Exynos chip in the other ones...
As for me I'm staying put.... I love my Infuse enough that while the SGS 2 looks great and is very tempting, I will wait for Samsung's next super phone that will have a 1.5ghz Exynos processor and a 16 mega pixel camera and will run at 70fps.

Honestly? I'd go GS3 if I was gonna upgrade right now. The One S is 'eh' at best and since it's a "high end HTC device", we probably won't see another one for a while. I contemplated upgrading to it within the week but they said I'd lose my 10 GB grandfathered data plan - which I absolutely refuse to do.
Funny thing too, they offered me a One S for $350 + Two year extension. I asked them if they realized that it's two hundred to two fifty on Craigslist in my area. They had nothing to say to that.
I absolutely love the SGS3, but wouldn't get it right now for T-Mobile for three reasons.
First, the T-Mo version costs more than other carriers SGS3s. That just rubs me the wrong way.
Second, we get the Qualcomm S4 version here. Dual core? Seriously?? I think that's lame considering EU gets the Exynos quad core version.
And last, and most annoying, the T-Mo SGS3 won't be compatible with the upcoming LTE because of the spectrum T-Mo is planning to use. Boo!
TL;DR I'd just wait. Sensation isn't top of the line anymore, but it's still pretty decent until some real upgrades find their way stateside.
Well i thought google said they will release at least 5 nexus devices in november, one for each different manufacturer. Why not get the next htc nexus then?

What's bad with dual core? The S4 keeps up with the Tegre3 and even beats it in some benchmarks. Does Android even benefit from quad core yet? I don't believe it really does. Hell, I have eight cores in my notebook and Windows hardly uses four of em.
If you want a good phone with good performance and best AOSP experience (speed, battery life, etc) wait for upcoming nexus.
I can live with sensation until google released new nexus phone.
But if you want a beautiful software and functionality go to HTC.
I dont like samsung experience but i should admit their hardware still the best (not its build quality tho).

Nothing bad with it really. Like I said, our Sensations are more than capable right now with dual core. It's just that if I'm going to break out the wallet and potentially renew my contract, it better be for a serious upgrade. An update from s3 to s4 just doesn't blow me away.
Remember when our Sensations came out and GB wasn't ready for dual core? Well now we have ICS and all is good. Same concept. I'd really hate to be on a dual core SGS3 and then the next version of Android comes out supporting quad core.
Silly to upgrade now. The GS3 is certainly "better" than the Sensation, but it's not enough of an improvement imo to justify the upgrade. I side with the people who say you should upgrade once new phones absolutely blow yours out of the water, not when they are merely a bit better. S4 dual core is pretty nice, and it beats the Sensations lackluster S3, but I'd rather wait for S4 quad core + Adreno 320 (a truly next gen gpu rather than Adreno 225, which is a slightly modified version of our gpu) or A15 exynos + Mali t-604 phones to hit, because they will undoubtedly roundhouse kick our sensations.

Good point. I, however, would like to mention that I never meant that I would get a GSIII right now, cause I'd have one if I did. All I meant was that if OP was getting a phone upgrade right now, GSIII over any HTC offering [T-Mobile's One S] is the way to go.

I wouldn't really say shafted, the dual core is faster and more power efficient than the previous S3 CPU and you get 2GB of ram rather than 1GB making multitasking much smoother. I've been hearing the Exynos quad to be a monster at eating battery if not tweaked (disable 2 cores etc...) and there are barely any apps/games that support more than 1 thread for phones aside from benchmarks. Thats pretty much like getting a 6 or 8 core CPU for PC yet the games/programs you use only use 2-4 cores and the only real benefit is if you use 3d programing/rendering/casting/encoding etc... but if you go to phone usage, doubt many utilize the full dual core.
So while the S4 only has 2 cores its still fast, if you have a quad core version of it you get this:
http://www.engadget.com/2012/07/24/qualcomm-snapdragon-s4-pro-apq8064-benchmark/
And we know getting that type of benchmark wont really be battery friendly will it?
later man. enjoy the gs3.

Two generations better CPU, a slightly better GPU, a higher resolution from 480x800 to 720x1280, longer battery life, more efficient LTE with better signal, better build, zero lag shutter camera...yes, its a big leap

Not big enough for me to take

What exactly will a better CPU offer, at this moment. I mean that in the sense that I don't see where my experience would improve in any way. Perhaps SwiftKey won't have an occasional hick up but even that's no guarantee. Besides that there's nothing I can do on an S3 that won't operate with the same usability as it would on my S2.
Still, to each his own, for me the only improvement would be resolution which I would unfortunately ruin with the nice feel of a matte anti glare cover. What I want is an S3 with guaranteed software updates going forward. Meaning ill be waiting until the next Nexus.

If we take from a hardware standpoint here are the key differences:
CPU:
Snapdragon S3 MSM8260 45nm 1.5GHz (Dual Core)-> Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 28nm 1.5GHz (Dual Core)
(Here we see the die shrink, with die shrinks on new architecture you can see battery improvements, temperature improvements and clock per clock speeds its faster)
GPU:
Adreno 220 -> Adreno 225
RAM:
1GB Single Channel -> 2GB Dual Channel
Display:
480x800 -> 720x1280
Gorilla Glass 1 -> Gorilla Glass 2
Of course there is a lot of other features/hardware that are "better" such as camera and stock battery etc...
In terms of the phone itself, the SR is not lacking since its still a dual core phones while other phones are still single and working their way to dual core. Quad core are starting to arise but they wont be as efficient for a while since the games/apps we use will not take advantage of all the cores. That being said by the time we do utilize them most likely there will be a newer and better hardware. Also 720p may start becoming the next standard in display as "HD" is making its way onto phones. If you think about hardware difference, think of Samsung Galaxy S2 as 1, Skyrocket as 1.5 and Galaxy S3 as 2. S3 (North America) is still dual core but it is an efficient/fast CPU.
Good example of this is like PC specs:
Q6600 = Quad (65nm)
Q9550 = Quad (45nm)
i5 760 = Quad (45nm)
i5 2500K = Quad (32nm)
i5 3570K = Quad (28nm)
What I mean about that is the standard has started to become quad in the CPU/laptop world but the big difference is the efficiency(power consumption), speed (clock per clock) and maybe other supported hardware features.
So is it a big step up?.... Yes and no, yes because hardwarewise it is better but the SR isnt lacking to the point where ICS/JB lags on it or any other apps/games atm. Of course if you have insane graphical games maybe it will slug the SR in terms of performance but thats entirely on what you use it for. Ask the same question next year and you'll probably hear the same, the S3 is not lacking but xxx (S4 or whatever is "faster"). Technology will always get better its just whether you want to pay to get the latest and greatest or not.
I buy my gear based on my use. You wont see me buying computers that are 6-8 cores, Quad SLI/CFX video cards or whatever because I don't need them lol. My hardware is fully capable of playing the current games so thats what I usually upgrade for, my uses.
If you compare the SR to the S3 of course you will see a good difference but if you only use the phone for facebook, instagram, twitter, calling, texting, whatever, the SR can do those. Now if it can't do those and its slow and always dying on you and programs aren't working and super super sluggish then yeah those are the reasons for the upgrade.
Now if we go to the development side yes, phones like Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy S2 (original) and Galaxy S3 will have big support as most people get them when they first come out so if you want to look for it in that view they have more popularity. Some people want to get the phones that everyones getting while others don't want the "same exact" one but on a similar page.
Way to go and spoon feed insane amount of info lol... Good stuff

international does not support LTE and these two are faster plus 2gb of RAM
