[Q] any news about sbk V2? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I know i'm asking again this question, but i'm wondering if the devs can ,one day, found the sbk v2 key.
I want to know it, even if it s in one month or more.
Because i dont know if i have to sell my tf b80k and buy à rootable devices.
Thanks

You're asking about something that might or might not happened in the future.
I'm sure a lot of other peoples would like to see the new SBK discovered but
there's no sure answer right now.

I've heard it will happen at 12:20 PM CST on Dec 12, 2011.

well... I can tell you, that SBK v2 has been found by @DroidRay, but he won't share it as he was told not to. But he's working on another root-method which probably will be released in a not so distant future
source: http://androidroot.mobi/2011/08/26/b70-and-beyond/ and some tweets

thanks for your answers,
i know it might not happen and i know about DroidRay, BUT, as he said
Be patient, we are close to root on B70 and possibly B80 (if SBK is the same!).

The B70 is about to be rooted but B80 maybe not.
That's why i'm asking this question, if a dev working on it could just tell us if they can ,in the future or not, root the B80k.
I have one week to send back my transformer, if it can't be rooted i'll send it back and buy an iconia i think.

How are they supposed to know this? I would send it back and get something else. I'm sure they will gain root on the B80 but there is no way they can give you an ETA. It could happen tomorrow or in 6 months. Rayman(DroidRay) is the personyou need to watch for this but you don't seem to like his answer

I'm aware that it could take 6 months, i just wanted to know if a dev have an answer, if they found that b80 is the same sbk as b70 and if they have something.
Sorry if i seem to be rude, it wasn't my intention. I know those guys are doing this for free and I admire them for that, i'm just confused by this new sbk.
I'll try to PM Rayman, thank you

[Q] B70 v2 bootloader question

Is the only thing that we owners of locked devices is wait for a leaked key, or is there something else i can do to try to support people that could get it working? i love my tf but am sad i cant get root to the point where i almost want to return it ><
I'd go to stores around you, look for a B70KAS15 or below (to be safe...i believe the consensus is that lower B70KAS devices can root), and once you find one, return your old one.
From what i understand, there are a few people working on a way around this (or they have the new SBK--but even with the new one, they've made it harder to use).
All in all, you'll have to decide if you want to risk waiting (there's always small chance something could go awry, right?).
I see nothing wrong with going to look around and find if you can find an older B70, or anything like that.
Unrooting B70/B80 is a work in progress, check androidroot.mobi
But if I were you, I'd look for a TF with B50 or B60, then you can root your tab for sure (I did the same and was able to get a B50. A friend of mine got a B70 which can't be rooted yet).
I bought via amazon, i dont really want to return it to pay more local+tax for a maybe :/
Im new to this group of devs, how reliable is it to expect those guys at androidroot.mobi to come through and not can it haflway through? just to be clear, this question is in no way meant to be deragotive towards those guys, i just know some devs disappear (which is totally cool) and some stick around forever.

RaYmAn posted the SBK on twitter the first time.
bumble-bee and RaYmAn were also behind the previous roots, using a temproot and blobs

Without RaYmAn and Bumble-Bee's efforts none of us would be using blobs and nvflash on our Transformers.
well im glad that us poor souls are in good hands
i agree, this will allow us to have the full potentiol for all transformers

Rooting Vizio Vtab - Full System Files Attached

All, I pulled the system files from the Vtab via adb in the hopes that someone can look at them and determine what needs to be done to get root on this device. The link to the drop box is below.
dl.dropbox.com/u/48074556/vtab_system.zip
Thanks for posting this. It is a pity that the Vizio has not yet been rooted. I have tried both Gingerbreak as well as the Zergrush tools but both were unsuccessful.
has anyone called vizio with a pretty please with some info on this?

I've been sending email requests for the kernel sources of the 1.4 V.I.A and OTA 1.5. They told me that they respect copyright rules,so i have a feeling that they will dish out the files to anyone who has time to stay on the phone with them.
update on source code
I have been in contact with vizio for the past few days or so. The bottom line is: in order to get kernel source code for V.I.A plus, you need to contact vizio legal affairs. cant seem to find the address around here, but you need to send a written request to them. The problem for me is this: I HATE SNAIL MAIL. I havent sent a letter in years so maybe someone else could? If you want, PM me and I will draft up a message for you. Maybe i'll get around to it.

I've been waiting on the sidelines, hoping for root before I got my tablet but my family all chipped in and I got mine for my birthday (May 20th).
I've asked a friend if he'd be interested in attempting to root the newest Honeycomb release. I'm waiting for a response from him but while I was showing it to him he made the comment, "are you rooted? It shouldn't be that difficult." He's a programmer with linux experience and since there doesn't seem to be any legit developer working on root, maybe his expertise is what we need.
If he shows interest in the project, we'll need to get him a vtab to work on. I can start a kickstarter for the ~$200 necessary.
This is all contingent on his interest in the project. I'll let you guys know.
Is there still a want/need for this? Will you be willing to donate to the cause?
I spoke with my dev. He's interested but just doesn't have the time. He's full-time employed. However, I have decided to return my vtab because of the major HDMI out issue. If you don't know, the vtab will not output to many tv's, I think because it outputs in 768 and not 720 so many televisions do not know how to handle this. I'm going to be getting the Acer Iconia a500 which has multiple dev's support already and many roms available. I wish everyone who's decided to stick it out, good luck and I hope you get root soon.
Just and update this device has been rooted for gingerbread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2543539

1) ICS was confirmed to Asus to come this month.
2) unwritten rule of development. Do not ask for ETAs. It'll get here when it gets here.
to add to the post above
3) it is a written rule to search before posting
4) there is a thread called 'Asus once again confirms ics for february' right here within eye sight of the 'new thread button'
5) that's funny right there
Sorry my bad;/
To add to the above: Any release date you're told, even by Asus themselves, is a work of total fiction. They've already claimed just about every date you can imagine, and the only consistent thing is that there will be another statement from Asus within a week, contradicting the previous one.
Today, it's Asus France, saying "not til the end of February".
I'd guess early-mid March is optimistic, late March is realistic.
Funny thing you made a thread about this, considering this is the only thing which has been discussed in this forum since new years, and even before that.
You'd think it would be easy to find existing news on this

I agree. Make sure to search the forum before making new threads.
It will come when it comes
I really wish that xda would force new members to physically type the sentence, " i will use the search function before posting a new thread" in order to activate their account. This would drastically cut down on the number 1 most violated rule.
Can you get to the recovery menu? vol down and power?
If so grab one of the updates from the asus download page pop it onto your microsd extract it so that you see /asus/update/filename
reboot to recovery and that should do it..... if it doesnt take the file from /asus/update rename it EP101_SDUPDATE.zip and try again.

...or more realistically, late next month, unless they've still got a pallet of dusty Primes knocking about. ;-)
This will get Asus to open up:
Everyone send a message via Twitter to @Asus stating "Is the TF101 ICS OTA still confirmed for Feb 14?"
You know, they said mid Feb so we can hold them to the 14th. This will get them to fess up and give is a revised date. It will also cause them to wonder if @Asus gave the public a Feb 14 date at some point, second guessing themselves. Lol.

[Q] What's the progress on SBKv2 devices?

Hi there,
A few months back (pre prime) people were quite active on getting nvflash to work for SBKv2 devices. Now lately I barely hear news. I'm quite curious: is this dead? or is work still being done?
I really would love to get ubuntu running as atm I feel android is quite limited as a tablet OS.
Wrong section, I'm afraid...

This thread with it's replies confuses me. Was this initially posted in Android Dev? That would make sense
Nevertheless, the question still remains. I haven't heard anything about SBKv2. I wonder if it's not a lack of effort, but rather just a difficult, difficult task. You would have to ask the guys over at androidroot.mobi really...
I would like also to know were is the sbkv2.
2 questions:
- how was the first sbk key found? from what I understand it is saved in the hardware someplace that it is not readable, so there is no way it can be extracted. maybe the first was leaked from and insider as Asus? or was just the default for the tegra?
- any chance asus will provide an unlock tool for the TF101 with the one they will release for the Transformer Prime?
It was leaked.
I think it might be time to petition Asus for the rights to our device. It worked for the TF201 owners. And honestly, its ridiculous to say we shouldn't be able to know the SBK (and I'm willing to void warranty for that)
Thanks for the replies and yeh it's sadly as I feared. I guess we need to start a petition about it.
And about the mispost, yeh... kinda was in doubt when posting. As well the question IS development related my humble apologies for the mistake
btw seeing I have a dock-drain on my transformer I mailed em.. also with the inquiry about the SBK let's see how they respond
Hi everyone!
I´m also curious about that same thing, and I would be happy to sign a petition =P.
yea, noone knows whats going on?

Just luck, he must have got an sbk1 device, there is no sbk2 nvflash yet.
Where I got mine, the demo unit was B50, while the one I got was BC0KAS, I had the option to get the demo unit but It was there since few months, and many many touched and played with it, which is not very good for me.

I really want root

I'm a noob at programming and I want someone to make an exploit to root SM-G950U on Oreo. I got this phone on ebay and it was on Oreo when I got it and I can't downgrade. Please, I had a rooted SM-J327P and it was cool but this phone has way better specs. I didn't get to do some things on that phone because it got stuck in a boot loop and I couldn't fix it. My software version is G950USQS3CRE2. I know it will be difficult but I was told that it's impossible to stop a hacker by a family member who is good at programming. I can't take people being defeatist saying "It's impossible." If my dad who's good at programming says it's possible, then it's possible.
No one replying
Why has no one replied yet? Is it because people just started working on the exploit when they saw my post so it's not finished yet or are people just ignoring me? I hope it's the first one because I don't like to be ignored. I might be able to give suggestions as to what the exploit could look like. Here's one. We could try to bypass the fuse checks like with hekate on the Nintendo switch.
Respectfully, search the forums. There is as of yet no way to root Oreo but the devs are working on it. And please have a bit more respect for those who spend countless hours working on it who'll make it available to you FOR FREE. Do what I did and make a donation out of your appreciation. Perhaps if they charged for root methods, you would have a bit of a different tone.

The root method was patched there is no root past rev 2 bootloader and more than likely wont be. If you want root get a root friendly device.
