Just seen there's a new beta test build of cm7 on jt1134's twitter. Were getting ever closer to a more functional cm7 on our Charge's.
Isn't that one of the ROMs that doesn't support HDMI ???
~John
I've only used cm7 on the Fascinate which sadly doesn't have HDMI, so couldnt tell ya.
so what's the issue with the test that he released?

I'm sure there might be some minor things, but from what I have read on twitter and in comments about the rom....that's about it. No radio. Only thing between the Charge and AOSP heaven.

Correct. I was running cm7 last night. Radio and video recording are the 2 things needing work. We should have at least 3g radio soon. 4g may take a lot longer.

HDMI isn't working in the preview. Playing back videos I recorded is a bit choppy (might be just me). I didn't wait to see if GPS would work.
Not something you want to use daily yet, but it's getting there.
I came from the Fascinate and I didn't really miss cm7/MIUI/aosp until I put MIUI on my Droid X yesterday. I hope the wait isn't very long.

JT has been huge for us in the fascinate forum. As many Charge owners are from the fascinate trade up program, i'm ecstatic he's helping us out here.
CM7 on Charge would be the 1st 4G LTE on CM i believe.

You are absolutely right. I flashed MIUI on my friends fascinate today, and its a complete night and day difference.
are you saying MIUI is better or worse than cynogenmod? Do we have MIUI for charge?
From what I've heard MIUI is better but apparently the devs are in China(where they don't have LTE) so it's impossible(well, not technically but...) for them to develop MIUI for the Charge.
I liked cm7 on my fassy but MIUI was miles ahead as far as customization goes IMHO. I'm currently trying to get another fascinate or wait for the Droid Prime, fingers crossed.

Can't post in the dev boards so I'm putting this here for the CM7 folks....
So I had been using das bamf stripped since getting my thunderbolt and had a few minor issues with it but really liked it overall. Eventually decided to try the MR2 radio with the new full sense 3.0 but it didn't play nice in my car dock.
Decided to try CM7 again and boy am I glad I did. Everything seems to be running great (well, apart from 4G but I can live without it for a bit).
Its like I have my original Droid back, only with a bigger screen and better speed!! I don't know why I didn't take a chance on it earlier!
Thanks to the CM7 team for giving me back the GUI I love!! Nice to have all the vanilla apps back that I'm so comfortable with!!

Oh man, 4G sweetness this morning using this build! No issues so far!! I'm off to donate!
I installed the latest CM7 this AM. It has completely resolved the 3G/4G/WiFi problem.
IMHO my Thunderbolt with this ROM and Verizon 4G IS THE BEST SMARTPHONE ON EARTH RIGHT NOW.
I'm gonna chime in and say I've been running CM7 on my t-bolt since the pre-alpha releases and have been happy as a clam. No 4G here, so that didn't bother me. Some little bugs here and there but this is a solid AOSP rom. I just can't get used to Sense, and after coming from an Evo 4G to the Thunderbolt, was a little disappointed that CM7 was so immature... but once I tried it, I realized that it worked great and now I'm happily back in CyanogenMod land and won't look back.
good to know, so whats left for a full release?

You won't be disappointed! RC1.2 flies and the 3G/4G toggle are awesome to have! This is for sure my new ROM of choice!
I'm running RC1.2 with MR2.5 and Imoseyon's leanKernel. Everything runs like a champ! Extreme undervolt, 1.41GHz overclock, and InteractiveX governor. 4G and GPS work great without any further tweaks. I'm loving it!
Spoke too soon. I saw 4G on my way into work this morning, but haven't been able to get it since then...
Maybe I'll try the MR2.5 radio? I'm on MR2 now and it's been good with das BAMF stripped...
I totally agree, this latest release is awesome! I'm having no qualms and feeling as comfortable as I did with CM on my OG Droid.
I went to the 2.5 radio last night and got 4G on my way in this morning. Handoff seemed better, but I decided to go back to the original (non-leaked) MR1 radio so I'm doing that now.
Network Location Services thought I was in Morocco. I was wondering why it was only 75 degrees suddenly instead of the 95 or so it was here yesterday.
I see this is a common issue with the 7/6 build. Now that I can post in the Cyanogenmod thread, I'm going to take the rest there.
Thanks again, CM7 team for giving us a great alternative for great hardware!!
Will the droid charge ever be supported by Cyanogen?
Reason I ask is because I just picked up the droid incredible 2, which is a great phone and even better on battery life than any other android phone I've had before (evo, nexus s), and I'm still on my 14 day trial but I'm considering the droid charge. I love the amoled screen on sammy, makes all other screens look washed out, and the vanilla look and speed. So cyanogen for droid charge ever? How are the roms without TW and how is battery life on the charge?
Last question, how does the charge feel in the pocket? I remember my evo was like a brick, and the nexus s was like nothing compared to it. The droid inc 2 is about the same as the nexus s. Thanks in advance.

I just don't like TW. It really lags the phone, comapred to the nexus s which has the same hardware but stock vanilla. That is why I'm asking about CM7, but I'm sure there are other roms out there which has taken the TW out of it right? I'm just in the fence between this phone and the droid inc 2.
Let me try to give some input on the droid inc 2 and maybe you guys can give me some feedback on what your experiences are with the charge.
-very light, feels great in the pocket
-sense, a couple or roms being developed now with addition of 3.0 sense but I can live without
-no 4g, not that I have 4g in my city, but it is offered at some places I usuallly go to
-already has a beta cm7, which runs nearly perfect, very stable
-very fast phone, browsing the web and opening up apps
-battery life is best from my experience, can easily get by with one day with moderate/heavy use with leftover juice
I'm just trying to decide wich one to keep with the help of people who already have the charge and can talk about the pros and cons of the phone. Thanks again.
If the 4g is not that important to you, then your current phone has better hardware except for the screen.

agreed...4 g is faster than my wifi right now. Screen is SICK. Can't go to a bionic from this, only a 4g GSII. If it exists.
I hate to say it but I'm getting the d3. I'm going to sell this phone. I hate how slow it is and knowing samsung updates won't come fast leaks are great but leaks are leaks. 4g is killing my battery and I'm always on wifi anyways. And oh who doesn't miss the keyboard. Locked isn't a problem im sure it will be unlocked the same way the atrix was and motorola left fastboot on it which means there is more to come. Just my opinion and i know the trolls will come.

r2DoesInc has a Charge and is going to work on porting OMGB and OMFGB to it, so we'll have at least those for AOSP ROMs then. Once one AOSP ROM is done and working, it should be easier to port others to the phone then as well. It will happen at some point, the only problem is, it could take a while to happen.
To put things in context, the Fascinate, which came out about 10 months ago and is extremely similar to the Charge specs-wise, has just -- literally in the past few days -- gotten more-or-less fully functional CM7.
As far as the Incredible 2 goes, it's a decent but thoroughly underwhelming phone considering it came out so recently. Single-core, no 4G, okay but not great screen...it really is more comparable to the Fascinate than to the Charge or Droid X2.
Honestly, if you have a choice, you'd be better off waiting for the Droid Bionic, which will finally mate a dual-core processor with 4G.
i tell you 4g is so sweet. I came from a dx and i knew the bonic was coming out when i bought the charge. I dont regret at all upgrading. As i hated Blur and there screens are bad. TouchWiz is not that bad to me. I think you will be very happy with the charge. I am rooted and on humble 1.3 and voodoo kernel and my benchmarks are as high as my droid x on Gingerbread. I dont see qhy everyone loves Motorola after owning my charge.

how do these roms run compared to stock? I have seen the pictures but no videos, maybe somebody can post one and compare it to something else. Honestly the droid inc 2 has got pretty much the same specs as the charge exept no 4g and more ram. The thing that I love about the charge is that it will be future proof with the 4g and the lovely screen.
How about the droid 3? anybody seen one yet? It just seems appealing because of the dual core and front camera, but I would hate the extra bulkiness from the keyboard. So hard to decide on a phone which will be a solid phone for the 2 years.
I have tried several times to get MIUI to work with our phones and I give up .... we need some master devs here to give us the incredible switch to MIUI are there any out there?

100% +1 MIUI is working on the Fascinate, if you want something that looks and acts like the iPhone, trade in your Charge for a Fascinate
for my Charge it's CM7 only

Impossible, no. Thunderbolt had a MIUI port that everything worked except the radio within a couple days of release. And it is still in the same state today.
They really need the chinese developers to help out, since it is not open source.
So to answer your question, MIUI is improbable till the Chinese devs are interested in adding LTE support.

It will not be "faster" to get it fully working. The hardest part for the Fascinate was getting all RIL functions to work. Now, not only do you have the RIL to worry about again, but you have two of them. Also, the hardware that is different doesn't have any drivers in the mainline Linux kernel, so any missing drivers need to be pulled in from Samsung's source. Unless someone hops on board with AOSP/CM porting experience, it's going to take a while.
Once we get CM7 with an AOSP kernel, then we will get MIUI shortly after (I am basing this information from what happened with the Fascinate) as some ports of MIUI are based off of CM7 ex. Fascinate and GSM Galaxy S phones.
think its being considered at rootzwiki.com
Will bump for miui nothing like heavily developed custom roms

AFAIK the Thunderbolt CM7 source is not released (If it was, please correct me)
And even so, I'm only talking about the MIUI that's based off of CM7 and not pure AOSP.
EDIT: The TBolt version isn't based off of anything but MIUI itself. The Fascinate version is based off of MIUI.us for the Vibrant, so I don't see why it should be any different with this phone, due to the nearly identical hardware.

We (Team BAMF) are. Not sure if we will stick with it.
I think you should. Sense 3.5 might be different, but it's definitely an improvement. It seems to be running buttery smooth right from the getgo on the Desire HD, unlike Sense 3.0 which not only (apparently) required a lot more work to port, but still ran choppy on even dual-core devices like the Sensation.

I never imagined that the 3D UI of 3.0 would be so smooth. I had to go back to Sense 2.1 because every 3.0 rom I tried was so incredibly laggy. The new widgets, improvements to the apps and widgets, improvements in speed, and the rotation animation (something I've wanted ever since I got the OG Droid) definitely make me excited to try it out.

It's possible. ICS was built around LTE from what I've read, so it should be easier to get the ril going for it rather than for GB, once the tbolt gets its ICS update that is.

One could start a post titled "Official free HTC One X for Thunderbolt owners?" and you'd have a million hits in minutes.
There is no official CM7 for the Thunderbolt so there most likely won't be an Official CM9. That doesn't mean there won't be a CM9 based ROM or two for the Thunderbolt. ICS needs to be officially released first though.

Mecha/T-Bolt is another device (like T989) that will skip CM7 and go directly to CM9

Yah I saw that too, that they were officially going to start dev for the TB cm9 I really hope they come out with that because I've been investigating a lot into different ROM's before I root, I'll be doing that within the next couple of weeks I'm waiting for ICS to come out before I root so the update doesn't destroy my phone. I'm really leaning toward CM these guys really know what they're doing!!!
It would definitely be a ROM worth checking out. Until then at least we have team BAMF.

How well does it work? I heard there were data connection issues with AOSP roms such as cm7.

Try the Workshed v1.5 build.
I can confirm Thundershed v1.5 is great. Just be absolutely positively sure you flash Imoseyons lean Kernel v6.1.0 AOSP on it. Much better for overclocking and stability. Not to mention, and this is rather odd... I had kept stock TShed kernel for awhile, but decided eff it I want my imo lean kernel back! Wiped cache/dalvik, flashed 6.1.0 lean kernel, and waddya know I now get 4G 2-3 bars in my home where before on TShed kernel, 3G 1-2 bars. Odd huh? Definitely not placebo, I'm legit getting 10mbps down, 0.5mbps up in my room, on 4G LTE where I used to get 1.5mbps down, 0.5mbps up 3G.
Go figure.

I can confirm connection issues on AOSP Roms. It is not a big issue, typically happens at times when the signal is weak. You just get intermittent data drops that don't happen on Sense.

Workshed v1.5 build hand down my favorite rom for The Tbolt. No lagging of freezing like most other roms.
thundershed 1.5
i totally agree with everyone about thundershed. i honestly don't understand how anyone could dislike it. the only issue i ever had with thundershed was that shed's included kernel has rough bluetooth audio. shed is working on it, but until then, there's always the xoomdev and imoseyon aosp kernels to correct the bluetooth problem. also, thundershed is in my opinion the most developed aosp rom for the bolt thus far. great rom.

I have had very few connection issues running Thundershed 1.5, it's definitely gotten better.
