I recently flashed my phone with " Desire S Gingerbread 2.3.5 with Sense 3.0 >>v0.8 " and tried to import contacts from SD Cards where I got this error message
" this application people (processcom.android.htccontacts) has stopped unexpectedly. please try latter "
I've reflashed with the same ROM again and did a RESET but still I keep getting the same error message.
Can someone please help me import my contacts and dont get this error message anymore.

I'm not sure how you stop what sounds like a ROM issue, but I can help you get around it for now.
Transfer your contacts from your SD card onto your PC. (.vcf format I assume?)
The open your web browser and log onto your Gmail. Select Contacts from the menu of the left. Click on the 'More' tab across the top, and select 'import...'
Point the pop-up at the files you transfered to your PC, and now they are imported as Google Contacts.
Now each time you flash a new ROM and sign in to your Gmail account, the contacts will be pulled down from your account and you wont need to keep copying them to your phone from your SD card.
I dont think its a ROm issue.....cos before flashing with Desire S Gingerbread 2.3.5 I was running on RCMix 2.5 and I did not have any such problem with RCMIx Rom......it was only after flashing with Desire S Gingerbread 2.3.5 that I'm getting this error message. So I thought I'll switch back to RCMix and I made a clean wipe and cleared the cache and flashed my phone with RCMix and now I'm getting the same error message even with this RCMix which was working absolutely fine earlier..........
Can someone please hel me solve this problem.

This began for me after installing Google + 2.0 .. after deleting the data and Uninstalling Google + 2.0 everything works again correctly
I think this thread is done with the work.. So better put a [SOLVED] infront of thread name
Had the exact same problem. Uninstalling Google+ solved the problem. Thanks for the tip.
I too had the process com.android.htccontacts issue, tried messing about uninstalling Google+, removing Account Sync's and re-syncing ... Still broken
... FIXED - I did a Titanium restore PEOPLE (com.android.htccontacts) from an old backup, flashed only the data over (the data in this file doesn't actually contain the contacts, that appears to be in a different area)
but whatever it was that got corrupt was fixed ...
Hope this helps

I need help. I was running CM7 and decided i was going to try the "whiskey" rom. i wiped everything restored and everything works great. Then I try to restore data only from my backup and each time i do this i get the error saying "application is not installed" when i click on my phone. I can send and recieve messages but cannot access the phone, dialer, contacts or nothing. Also google will not sync with my contacts. Mail and facebook sync still work and everything else is restored fine from my backup. Any ideas???
I installed Alternate GTab Firmware - TnT Lite (upd. 03/14/11, latest ver. is 5.0.1) on a brand new GTab following the process. All went very well.
I just started up my GTab after running flawlessly for 2 days and I get a "Sorry! The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." with a Force Close button. I hit that and the error goes away and comes back seconds later.
Any clues how to fix this?
Thanks

Search forum for that message. It has to dowith contacts. Or use titanium and wipe data for contacts.
I'm seeing the same error with Vegan.

check your contacts database. It uses the name for sync purposes. If you have a contact with no name it will cause this. delete that contact should fix it. If not, delete contact database should correct.

Thank you... This seemed to work. I went into my gmail account on my desktop computer and deleted or added names to all the contacts missing a name.
I then cleared the contact data on my tablet.
Seems to be working now!
Running the latest elegencia Rom (sense 4) when I launch the HTC car app everything works but as soon as I launch the phone feature I get android.process.acore has stopped and the app crashes. I googled this error and some say it's related to my google contacts and wiping contacts and contacts storage cache is the solution. I've tried that and factory data reset and reflashing the Rom but none of this worked...if anyone can help would really appreciate it , thanks
So there are multiple threads on this but I don't see one specific to the Verizon S3.
I recently tried to make the move to a new rom. I have tried both synergy and beans14. On both of them I run into this error and my contacts will not sync with google. I have tried to clear data in contacts and contacts storage with no success. I even tried do a factory reset back to a new rooted stock image using the guide found in section 6 of this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762709
From there i did another factory reset, complete cache wipes. I think flashed a recovery and tried installing the Beans14 rom again, and the issue is STILL THERE. I tried Beans because there was some talk that backup assistant could be the root of the issue and i beans does not contain this app...
Any idea what the hell is going on? I
If i revert back to my backup before trying to flash these roms I do not have the issue.

If you go under accounts and sync settings are you sure that you have enabled your google account to automatically sync with your phone?

Yes the phone itself, try going into settings->application manager->running application->contacts then select "clear cache option" if you see contacts storage under running application clear the cache for that as well. If that doesn't work backup your contacts first and then under the two applications I just mentioned select the "clear data" option. If that still doesn't fix your problems try running the fix permissions utility found in ROM manager. Let me know if you need more help

I have tried all this to no avail. I have also tried fixing permissions within recovery
This issue usually shows up when there is an issue with your contacts. Do you have any apps that can affect your contacts? Mr. Number is one that comes to mind that when it is restored to the phone, can cause the error to show.
You can try to back up your contacts to the sd card. Delete your contacts from the phone, and confirm delete from Google. Then after a wipe, if it tries, do not restore from Google, import from the sd card. Before restoring apps, make sure you don't see the error anymore when opening the contact list. Then restore apps. If it happens again, pay special attention to what apps were restored to find any potential trouble makers.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice. I tried to see if this would be an issue with CleanROM as well. Something went terribly wrong flashing that, and now i have a hard bricked phone. So it will be some days before I can even see if this works...
Hello guys.
Yesterday, I met an error: Android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Google said that that error came from contacts application, so I opened Titanium Backup to wipe data in contact. But I deleted the 3 apps: Contact...... in Titanium, not just wiped data. So now my phone doesn't have the Call icon and Contact icon.
I've tried to install a new Rom, but it doesn't fix the problem.
Someone please tell me how to solve this?

If reinstalling over the existing installation doesn't help, then try formatting and installing the ROM again.
