Basic Froyo ROMs - Motorola Droid Android Development

I just got an OG Droid as a backup phone to use for a while and I'm wanting to put a nice rooted, deodexed and debloated ROM on this phone. Anyone have suggestions? I don't need a bunch of features or gizmos, something Vanilla or AOSP would be fine.

[Q] Samsung Mesmerize Roms

Hello all,
I am new to the forums so I apologize if I posted in the wrong place! I am looking for a Froyo rom for the Samsung Mesmerize, I have spent quite a bit of time looking and have been quite unsuccessful so far. All I am looking for is a basic Froyo Rom, something that would be close to what Samsung themselves would actually release. I am new to Android so I do not know where to look exactly. I have hacked the PSP, jailbroken iPods, and installed custom roms for Windows Mobile phones so I am no total noob in the hacking aspect. If somebody could just point me in the way of some safe froyo roms that would be much appriciated, thanks in advance!
you can not yet
I think jt has a clean mesmerize rom for you...

There are no roms Froyo based at the moment but the current rom that is avalible is Deodexed and clean (striped of extra bloat) It is an Eclair DI14 based Rom. There is also voodoo and nonvoodoo kernels avalible and I just posted some MODS I created Accurate battery and notification Icon changes, as well as it gives you Custom bootanimations if you choose the voodoo kernel,as this kernel supports custom bootanimations...All kernels can use this mod you just wont have bootanimation change if you choose nonvoodoo...Hope this helps

Stock rom with root?

Can't find anything like this. Want to use a stock rom until CM7 gets its crap together.
U dont have a back up of your stock rom ? Take them from this time onwards. Its situations like these when u required them
What's wrong with CM7? Seems better than stock to me atm.

I'm surprised they're at RC status on CM based on some of the various bug reports and missing features I keep seeing pop up here and in the general section. The short answer to your question is that it's not-quite-ready-for-prime-time in some people's experience.
I'll turn your question around: what's wrong with stock? Gingerbread/NS is first Android combo I've not felt the desire to use a non-stock rom on yet even after two months.
To the original poster, I'll second what @suhas_sm said, you don't have a nandroid of your stock/rooted system? That should always be the first thing you do after rooting any phone, and the first step in flashing any new rom, ESPECIALLY a new rom that is in alpha/beta status (like CM7).
If you don't have your own nandroid, the development section does have nandroid images of a stock rom you can restore over your phone via clockwork recovery.
I have the stock back up but won't I lose root after I reboot?
I LOOOVE CM roms but CM7 is too buggy for me. Can't wait to use it when it's stable.
I will say I love my stock ROM with the Netarchy Kernal @ 1.2Ghz it is blazing fast. This is the first android phone I have had and damn its great. I don't think i need to go doing new ROMs other than the whole theme option sounds great.

[Q] What ROM to choose?

So i've been looking at all the XT720 ROMs that are available now, and it's got me wondering which rom is the best? They all seem to be very similar.

It depends on what you are looking for, ill break it down for you.
Everything started with dexters froyo 1.3. Excellent breakthrough for all XT720 users so most of us started out with this ROM. Over time the excellent devs like khal powers, fjfalcon and Mioz7ae, worked on the same dexters froyo to create basically 3 ROMS.
1) Khalpowers Epic Steel V4, heavily optimized, fast stable, swap support and non stock appearance.
2) Fjfalcon, took the stock dexters and created RusMod 1.19 which is dexters with stock appearance and all the optimizations. He recently changed the kernel to the one from CB's Froyo, and also added build prop changes from there. It has multilanuguage support. He also created the SWAP kernel which can be applied to all the said ROMS, but needs a fastboot via USB everytime your phone reboots.
3) Khalpowers, ported MIUI which is a whole new experience. Depends on how much you like MIUI. Like epicsteel its very fast and stable.
4) Cincinnati Bell Froyo, built by CB using the same process as dexter. Much more stable than dexters.
5) WanHU's rom based on the original korean 2.2 is what most people are looking into right now. Stock 2.1 appearance. Very fast, media buttons working, radio working, TV out working, and with haptic feedback. This is the closest well get to an offical MOTO release.
If you want to go with a stock froyo appearance I suggest try either CB, or RUS mod. If you want different appearance try MIUI, or epicsteel. If you want the latest and most promising ROM which is just a treat to use go for WanHU. Personally id tell you flash WanHU, been using it nowadays and I have to say its pretty cool.

[Q] Stock ROM I997UCKK3 [2.3.6] stable?

First of all, I am a iphone convert (this week) and bought an Infuse. love the phone and android. I am a noob and have a noob question:
I would love to upgrade to gingerbread and don't want to root. I believe I can do that with the stock ROMs. My question is a stock ROM such as ROM I997UCKK3 [2.3.6] 100% stable with everything working?
I use my phone for business so I can't have calls not come thru or other problems on it.
Any insight is appreciated.

I've installed every single stock leak there is (I hate ugly modded roms). KK3 is NOT the way to go. KK4 was just released and currently it's not rooted and runs beautifully. Wifi, bluetooth, GPS, data and phone are all working great. 9 times out of 10 the rooted versions suck anyways because they use a buggy kernal that wasn't meant for it. There's usually some kind of trade off with rooted roms so if you don't care about rooting, grab KK4 and flash with ODIN.

this is exactly the type of info I was looking for! Thanks! Is absolutely everything working on the KK4? all the apps and everything?

I've been playing with it all day and I have yet to find any issues. All apps work, no shutdowns, no lagging, no dropped wifi, no data switching, no bluetooth problems...nothing. Definately one step closer to "official".
the custom kernel is usually packaged so people have cwm and dont get in a panic not being able to flash out of the rom the same way they flashed it. if i knew how to repack the initramfs id give a shot at making a more stock kernel with cwm. but unfortunately like the rom chefs here i dont have that knowledge. you can absolutely have kk4 rooted without a rogers based kernel, it just means flashing twice. maybe ill fill that gap since flashing the stock kernel back to the phone is too much for many people to figure out. the phone retains root if you flash the stock kernel. what is going on is there is a script in the custom kernel that copies the su file and simlinks it while the phone boots in an insecure state. once root is there it stays unless you flash the rom. after the phone is rooted the kernel has zero effect on root privledges.

Any ICS custom ROMs?

I am looking for a custom ICS rom for xt926. All the ones in the android dev section seem to have been upgraded to JB. Right now im using the stock version that came with my phone originally but i wuld like something thats been completely debloated. Any ideas?
I want to keep the hdmi overscan options that ICS has if youre wondering why i want this.
no? Ok well, is there a way to replace the MotoApps with their stock android counterparts? I wanted to do this with the clock (MotoDeskClock.apk in system/apps) but everytime i tried the clock would fc. I think it might have something to do with it being odexed but im really not sure.
Could just root it and remove all the bloat.
