[Q] Attention All DEVS!!!! - Android Apps and Games

I am in desperate need of an app with a certain function; the ability to choose specific apps/games where you are not to be disturbed while the app/game is running. There's nothing more frustrating than if you're in the middle of a game or a download and a text/phone call comes through and screws up everything. I know with my old Blackberry, I had an app to do just this and it was awesome. I know there are apps where you can choose certain days/times not to be disturbed but not specific apps. It's kind of a hassle to open an app, set it to "Do not disturb" play your game and then remember to go back and undo the Do Not Disturb.
Anyone interested in taking on this task?

Why don't you just use the airplane mode? So you won't recib any sms or calls...its just an idea...
Or search for an app calls automate it!...I think you can trigger actions by time...

tasker can do that on a per app or collective basis

Apps randomly starting in the background?

I use advanced task killer and minutes later I see MP3 Store, and Messages running. Before I saw a few others. Are they set to start running in memory for some reason? Not sure if they eat up much juice, but I wonder if I can make a list of certain ones and disable their start up somehow. Is there a task killter that blocks startups?
same here we need something to block these apps
Messages is required to recieve MMS (Even if you use handcent or chomp or something else as your main client). We tried removing that once in the hero forums and it caused ALL sorts of problems and force closes)
The mp3 store is usually ok to remove though.

Thanks codemonk,
Do you know that setting in advance task killer is that says "auto kill level"? It is set to disable now, but what does it do? Thanks.

I'm not sure...I avoid task killers as a rule (I installed one earlier to test something for an earlier thread and uninstalled afterwards once I got my info).
http://geekfor.me/faq/you-shouldnt-be-using-a-task-killer-with-android/ - This should provide some good info on it.
The better solution, especially for apps that you don't intend on using, is uninstalling the app (there's a whole thread talking about which ones are safe to remove).

yeah, that is a great idea. I imagine if I wanted it back I could just install it again. Thanks Codemonk.
Why do you need those apps not running? Android will kill them if it needs more memory.
Why are people obsessed with killing stuff? It's not like your phone runs better with 192mb of free memory vs 163mb...
it actually does, as well as lets the battery last longer since it isnt using as much processing power

Let the phone run for a good 12 hours. I was down to 42MB free basically idling and only using Handcent. Killed a few tasks and back up to 175 and everything is snappy again.
I don't like having to use a task killer, I didn't have to with my N1.
maybe there will be an app like Scotty for windows 7. I check and a bunch of bloatware starts on it's own. It's all marketing bs. When there is a nice root stripped down, with all the nice stuff enabled I'll do that.
download startup auditor from the market. great little app to select and unselect which apps you want to load when the phone powers up. only costs $0.99 usd

So if I leave it to no apps, will it load up with 0 apps running? Will it also prevent apps from randomly starting after phone is already on? Sounds like a nice app.
Unless startup auditor disables the service there is a list of apps that will randomly start up at times. I went into the application settings and apps like MP3 store don't have an option to uninstall.
I have used task killer to kill all apps and within minutes some start again.
"thecodemonk" why do you not use a task killer. I have only had an Android phone about 24 hours now and got a lot to learn.
First thing being how to enable tethering.
I have mine set to "safe" and it auto closes things when screen goes black.
Make sure you "IGNORE" certain apps... like the clock or else your alarm wont work... I almost over slept
I have the following set to ignore:
Messages
Handcent
clock
gmail
Mort Music player
Fastbright
Check out the application "Autokiller." This comes with preset values (optimum, moderate, aggressive, etc.) so that apps will be killed off once your free memory drops below a certain point. This app works great, but it does REQUIRE root to function and must be rebooted to finish applying the settings. Also lists all apps, processes, and services which can be killed off manually as well.

I've been trying to find AutoKiller, yet I can't find it in the market. Is it here on the forums?

It is in market, search "autokiller". Requires root access, but I can confirm it is working fine.
Wanted to add that I am annoyed by programs that I never intend to use running in the background. From recovery I used Android Commander to quickly select and delete every .apk in /system/app that I never wanted to see again.
Helo guys saw this topic and was over at androidcentral and saw this article which talks about an app that would kill any app that autostarts.
won't let me post links as i'm a new user, but go to androidcentral and look for the article about the app autostarts or just google "autostarts"
using task panel to kill the "junk" like amazon and mp3 store- also any program that doesnt attach itself to things like facebook or messages - i use skyfire so i have set that to autokill but leave the "internet" running..
i also use this to switch between apps running.. having to hit back back back or even going to home then program list then finding it is a long process.. for example ...
i get a handcent message - go into the threaded sms- type and im done - holding down the home screen doesnt pop all the programs up - therfor i set task panel up to stay on my status bar and hit it then go to the program i want.

Any good apps for loking you phone down from kids???

Any good apps for locking you phone down from kids???
Sometimes I forget to screen lock my phone.
On the weekends my kids take my phone when I am sleeping to play games and they sneak it back on the charger before i wake up, then when we go out my phone dies and I am like @#$% it was charging I look at battery meter and they had it for 3 hours playing games.
Also anything for locking down folders and files.
Maby some kind of parental controls. LOL
Under "Settings->Location & Security->Set up screen lock" you can turn on a pattern, PIN, or password lock for your phone. You can also turn it off easily if you want.
THANKS
Thanks , I know about that somthing that limits programs from running???
Like games???

This looks like exactly what you're looking for. I installed it on my phone and it appears to work just fine.

YES, That is it. thanks you!!!!

A handy app that you would love to use before handing your phone to the kids.
Android Parental Control app is designed to restrict access to selected Apps:
1- Select and filter installed apps
2- Overall and individual app restriction
3- Automatic restart of the app when phone is rebooted
4- Safe Sandbox-only show allowed apps
I use following softwares to check children as well as my spouse activities
a good spanking usually
Don't give them ur phone....

The best app on the market is application protection. You can choose the app you want to lock from your kids. It's the best app and free. Try it out.

[Q] New App ideaor maybe not?

I'm looking for an app that is like a "do not disturb" option. On my old blackberry I had an app where you could choose certain apps that you didn't want to be interrupted during their use. For example, if you're playing a game and don't want your progress to be compromised, you could choose not to receive texts, or phone calls during the use of the game but once you exited the game everything was set back to normal.
I have searched for something like this but all I can find are apps that you can choose different times or other situations but nothing where you could isolate certain apps. If there is an app out there with this functionality, please let me know. If there's not anything, could it be done?
I appreciate any suggestions and/or help with this!

[Q] Question about Task Manager App and Maps?

So, I am currently using an app known as Task Manager. I know there are many articles out there about not using any task managers for Android 2.2+, but I wanna know do task managers really drain that much battery? I'm using it because I missed back when I had my Sensation, I can just kill all the apps at once immediately instead of waiting for the app to be killed. I'm not going to use autokill, I just feel that is so unneccessary to kill every app as soon as my screen goes off. So basically, my question is "Is using a task manager really that bad?"
Another question is, it seems like Maps is always running, but the only reason I have it installed is because I want the Navigation app. What's the map app running for? And why can't I stop it? It's always running.

Do you always have GPS turned on? That might be keeping the Google Maps application running.
No. GPS is always off, I actually hardly use it.
Same here. My maps is ALWAYS running in the background. I use it maybe once every two months, lol. Maybe it has something to do with geo-tagging or whatever it's called if you have a facebook or twitter account? That's about the only thing I can think of.
Try this thread, they mention something about logging into latitude, cancelling the notification, than exiting ..

Try an app such as autostarts. You can disable it so once you close it out it won't restart until you open it again. It's very useful, as it works for every other app on your phone also.

[Q] Plugin for lollipop notification modes

Today I've been playing with the new modes in lollipop and realised that priority is basically the old silent. With that in mind I went to set it up for during the night and for when at work. Problem is you can only choose one start and one end time so I'd have to pick either overnight or work rather than both. A first world problem I know but I've gotten used to automating my phone (cheers llama)
Does anyone know of a locale plugin that could switch between these settings for use with llama or tasker? This would make it far more flexible! A Google search found nothing
I know an app that you can use to do this. It' Atooma. But I'm not sure that it's working on Android lollipop. You can try it, it's free and you can find it on google play store.

Hi, it looks like Atooma is an app similar to both llama & tasker. I'm not after a new automation app but rather a plugin to toggle new settings found in lollipop that can be used with llama. Thanks for the response though.
I want it too!
