Hey guys i saw this video :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OynS0yrm3lk
and i was wondering if someone knew anything about it and how we can port it to android. I also know that this is basically impossible if you dont have the source, well after researching about this i came upon a website:
http://opensource.apple.com/
if you look at the iOS side and see there is 4.0 with some downloads (if you click on it) I am not a developer and i dont know much about porting but is this enough to be able to port iOS to android with those files?
bump?? fake or not?
completely Chinese kinda ios4
actually it's completely FAKE
ok thnkx for clarifying
Is there a way to get a webOS ROM and G1 or HTC Magic? I believe the webOS SDK (https://developer.palm.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&layout=page&id=1788) is opensource like Android is.
Android is open sourced, but drivers for network connections aren't... There is no way to port web os for android devices... (if i'm not mistaken)

They are both Linux based so why not pull the wireless from android and port it to webOS?
Drivers belong to f.e. HTC/Motorola, so there is no way to pull them from OS in usable (uncompiled) version. I think if it could be possible, there would be a lot of linux based ROMs first (like for some siemens old devices)...
It's a kind of defense from ideas like yours...
This is what I said to someone who asked this Q, but about WP7...
"Porting it to Android phones is illegal, the only exception is porting WP7 to other WinMo phones only....This is the same reason why WebOS can't be ported to other phones, you will get a C&D from Microsoft or worse if you attempt to have the OS on non-Windows phones. WP7, WinMo, WebOS, and iOS are all closed-sourced, unlike android you can't have those OSes on any device."
Now WebOS has some things that are open, but it's not fully open like Android. HP wouldn't allow such a thing, if you've try porting WinMo/WP7 , or another closed OS, you'll be told to quit it. The SDK isn't there for people to port it to other phones, but to develop apps, and other things for the pre line and other Webos native devices....And WebOS would be to slow on the 1st Gen Android phones...It was slow on the Pre 1, so it'll be slower on a 528MHz too. It's finally good on the 2nd Gen snapdragon, but look how big the Cpu Gen gap is...

Can a CM wireless module be edited to work with webOS? Like a webOS and CM merged rom for G1 and HTC Magic. Like some of the gingerbread roms for sapphire.

WP7 is closed sourced that is the big deference.

I don't think so... There was new type of java developed for Android (dalvik-java). I don't know how the WebOS is written, but it's not the same programming language for sure. Crossprogramming/crosscompiling is like copy polish text to english homework. Trust me, it won't work at all.
Dokładnie jak teraz, nie sądzę, żebyś cokolwiek z tego co tutaj piszę zrozumiał, ale i tak pozdrawiam Ciebie, jak również innych polaków korzystających z XDA.
But there is one possibility to run WebOS on our devices! You have to write everything on your own. If you want write new drivers for network/gps/camera/etc modules you have to know how they are communicating with each others, and have a lot time and skills and informations (like datasheets for all microcontrollers in device) for writing all starting from nothing...
(There are problems in porting Honeycomb for other than originally supported devices... If it is so hard, about WebOS i think you can forget...)
Ofcourse everything is possible (like MacOSx on f.e. AMD or Atom based processors), but not everything is profitable. There have to be some issues causing HP abandon WebOS (and making it worst from other OSs) (I'm speculating, I don't know how WebOS is working and how is to work on WebOS..).

I know what I'm talking about...WebOS is closed sourced...You can't port it to non-palm/HP devices at all...It's not legal...

If you don't believe goto that thread, or make a new one asking the question, the pal devs will tell you it can't be done.
So there is no way to get Android to look like webOS.

There are themes that were made very very long ago, doubt you'll find them again. However the "wave launcher" from WebOS is on Android, on the market.

Since WebOS is open source this is very "do-able", hell they ported Android to the iPhone, why not WebOS to an Android Device?
Hi Friends,
Have anybody tried to dual boot android with ios5. It will be great if someone can do this.
While searching came across this
http://code.google.com/p/bootdroid
http://bootdroid.blogspot.in/
Any solutions?
I don't think that's possible.

You can't run iOS as a rom because its closed source. It would be impossible to port because all the libs are different even though its based off linux
IOS is based off of Mac OSX which is based off of *Unix*
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Brick using XDA
so the info on the links is just bull**** ?
BUT: it is possible to have your android phone "transformed" to look like ios with miui rom and iphone theme.
that still doesnt give access to the appstore but its as near as we can get to ios looks
Got none of the required devices I would have tried otherwise :/
i have a desire hd but i dont really think this is legit.. probably just some guy hunting payperclicks
This will never be possible. IPhone and android phones havedifferent processor architecture.

It IS possible to dual boot an iPhone with Android and iOS, the project is called iDroid (idroidproject[.]org) but some of the iPhone jail breakers (like @chronic) are creating a linux-based OS (called Magenta) that replicates iPhone OS 1.0, my source says that it currently runs on ARM7 hardware
Magenta is an implementation of Darwin/BSD on top of the Linux kernel. It is made up of a number of kernel and userland components that work together. It is fully binary compatible with iPhone OS 5.0 (as in, it uses the same binary format).

The final goal is probably recreating the iPhone OS 1.0 stack. I think this is a pretty feasible goal, considering the fact that there are so many open source libs that can be used to replace the proprietary libs used by Apple. Just as an example:
* CoreGraphics -> Cairo
-> FreeType
-> libpng/jpg
* Celestial -> Various open source media decoding libs.
* UIKit -> Chamelleon

I think so, they say the aim is to run iOS
The project does not wish to build a platform that can run Apple’s App Store apps; it appears to just aim at running iOS.

As you can see it isn't for running App Store apps, but if it has root access like a rooted android, then you can just put any app on the device..
Like a Cydia app (for the ones who don't know: Cydia is an App Store that you get when you jailbreak your iPhone)
Dual boot iOS and Android. Hm... why not to try Linux instead? iOS is not flexible as Android and what's the point of it? Also we can start porting Windows 8 and other stuff.

iOS 5 is designed to run only on apple's specified hardware design. It is next to impossible to have apple software running on android hardware, but there have been reports of android running on apple hardware. This all involves a lot of lib tweaking, proper execution of binaries, andjust plain coding genius.

Look at post #9 It IS possible if someone tries to get it on an android with a bit porting of the Magenta-project. And yes it is possible to run android on iPhone (post #9 as well) it is called iDroid (as mentioned in post #9)
here is the source code from cronic, who is an apple dev, who is working on porting it for us, http://crna.cc/ , if any dev is wishing to finish it off with his android intel
why doenst just buy an iPhone ?

For those asking "why?", I found this thread because I would like an Android tablet, but I'm worried I'll want the latest app or game and it will be only on iOS for too long before going to Android. I'd like the best of both worlds, someday (perhaps when iDroid is out of alpha).

If you want the best of both worlds, let me give you some suggestions:
Buy a jailbreak-able iPhone (4S or 4 recommended) jailbreak it on iOS 5.1.1 (if that's the current OS) and then with Cydia you can customize your iPhone as much as you want.
Buy both of them (which I have done) and enjoy
But do not expect iDroid to be stable anytime soon, for now..
That was a bit off-topic, sorry, but I hope this helps!
Hi All,
Here's my grief:
- I don't like Android at all (it seems I'm the only one here ?!).
- the new Windows 8 scares me
- Apple ? no comment here
So, in short, I don't like those new fancy all integrated OS ... which leaves me with mostly nothing, except using a port of Linux.
=> so my question is now, since I'm thinking of buying a new phone:
which phone has the best Linux port at the moment ?
if possible: I'd like a latest gen phone with 4G/LTE and all the super fast CPU and super fast empty battery
Not sure if it all makes sense, but any help would be appreciated.
I'm not sure that there is one. I mean, getting all the drivers for the radio's and all that fun stuff would be a major pain. I know LiMo was being worked on and developed, but I have no idea how far they got.
Android is based on Linux
Why dont you buy a cheap old phone with good battery and a netbook with Linux?
There is no good and fast working Linux portation for any phone.

Well, what don't you like about Android?
android is probably your best bet, your question really doest make any sense, everything is based of unix apart from windows, so really you should not have a computer or a phone based on your question

Well, I know Android is based on Linux, but it's the end-result that I don't like ... and the fact that I have no choice ... yeah, that's stupid, but I don't want to be forced in using something that I don't like - that's why I'm looking for alternatives ( I had the HTC HD2 and there's some Ubuntu Port on there ... so I was hoping some newer device would have it too).
Thank you all for your answers - even though my question does not make much sense
Have a look at the Nokia N8. Very nice Hardware, cheap and no mainstream os.
`
firefox OS,the best mobile system based on linux
I'd just go for Android, it's not only functional but fun too and you can always extend your phones capabilities with new apps, there are endless possibilities out there.
You can compile and tailor a build of Android to anything you want. Its Linux with java heavily integrated into the framework. Your asking pretty much for the impossible.

I have an Xperia device and was searching through the Play Store for anything that's Small App compatible, then found this video demonstration of an app:
" ソニタブッター for small app: http://youtu.be/cG63zb4jN9w "
My question: What on earth is the device used in the video?
It could be something Sony, since it was demonstrating a Small App for Xperia devices. It's definitely Android, since it was demonstrating functionality of something in the Play Store. This is the only video by that uploader on YouTube and his channel is in a foreign language, otherwise I'd ask him directly.
It looks like a really cool device , and might be fun for everyone to know more about.
Any insight would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Me either.
And apparently it even came stateside? The link you shared isn't even an unlocked, but an AT&T-branded device.
But Android Honeycomb? What kind of hardware is inside there?
Also, thanks for responding?

Apparently updatedable to 4.0 ICS. Honeycomb 3.0 was a tablet-only version of Android that was abandoned/integrated into 4.0 and future versions.

You're welcome?
Yeah, but Honeycomb feels awkward and nerfed between 4.0 ROMS and Cyanogenmod 7's openness.
Definitely good hardware for its time though. I wonder what other special development endeavors were made on the device?
Maybe it would've caught on if it had some sort of interface on the outside of the clamshell as well? Like the concepts in Samsung's demo video when they first announced flexible displays.
But that's a different subject.
Thanks again for the information. No question about it this time ?
