I'm not 100% sure you can use the Optimus 3D's recovery image. If you try it out, let us know.

In the same boat. At this time I'm not willing to try new Tom's on this phone yet but. Cwm has uses other than just roms such as mods

WE need more ppl involved in trying to get this to work so move it over theer for us plzz thanks
Ya what mods are available if we cant flash CWM?
Just woundering since ive never flashed or used a mod with out CWM

Just try to flash the recovery by downloading it from the website. After u flash is reboot to recovery. If the recovery for the optimus 3D will not work for your thrill, i guess it just won't load the recovery. If something goes wrong just pull out the battery. Let us know how it goes!

I flashed the optimistic V recovery that ROM Manager suggests, just to see if it may work.
And it froze my phone A battery pull brought it back to life, though.
Has anyone tried the optimus 3d recovery yet? I may return this guy, seems like developers and android enthusiasts aren't really into the thrill, or even the optimus 3d.

I agree komodo I'm waiting till Sep 18 to see if gs2 comes into the picture I talked to a friend that works at at&t he said there is new phone that are being released mid Sep but he couldn't tell me if it was the galaxy s 2.. I really hate myself for returning my atrix for this phone..

Ok guys, the phone was just officially released a few days ago. Hold your horses...lol! I wound up with one, because I hard bricked my Cappy over the weekend & needed a phone for the time being, while the Cappy is away being fixed, & for $99 bucks, it was cheaper than my insurance deductible.
So far, it's not bad. Kind of heavy, the 3D is quite gimmicky, I just ignore it, my Bluetooth earpiece does some strange things sometimes though (not sure of it's the phone, or the earpiece at fault) the battery is no worse than what I've experienced with the Captivate. It actually seems a little better. The camera has a flash, the pics come out nicely, it handles all of the media I've thrown at it so far, nicely, regardless of format. I get better reception than I did on the Cappy. The phone overall does a decent job, of just being a good smart phone. Regardless of official reviews of the Galaxy S II, I'll probably hang on to it, if even just for having a solid backup device (or weapon, this thing has some weight on it lol)...Would be nice to have a custom ROM running on it though...

My girlfriends sgs4g(why o why)

Her phone has horrible internet connection even though it has full bars +4g icon, and its freezing up constantly and I'm at my ends wits... is anyone else having these issues with their sgs4g its completely stock not even root(she won't let me root/install custom rom because she likes her lock screen puzzle piece lol)

I've done everything that you guys have recommended except for root I've called tmobile so much they know me by name lol they're sending a replacement out now should be here by Monday, I'm hoping its a hardware issue, I had one with my G2, they sent me a new one and it works great(although I'm running cm7 now) but if nothing else and the problem persists ill try rooting, she's just so against having anything done to her phone and refuses to get a custom rom because of the loockscreen puzzle piece lol
Either way thanks you guys, you've been a big help anyone have any problems like this?

Yep I'm new to the sgs4g community not new to the xda community I'm a proud owner of the g2 lol
I checked out the rom and my only question is when you get a message does it pop up as another puzzle piece like it does on stock that's what she loves so much lol so if I can find a custom rom that has that stock lockscreen feel I'm set, I know that stock lockscreen is because of touchwiz right?

Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to work. I just texted myself to test it out. I don't use that lockscreen on a regular basis, so maybe if someone else texted me, it would show up. *shrug*
I would say try your best to convince her to try out GB. The speed difference between GB and Froyo is MASSIVE.
FYI, wifi is not quite up to par on GB. Weaker signal, shorter range.

If it's your GF's phone, I wouldn't flash gingerbread just yet. It can be tricky, and it has weaker wifi connection.
I would root the phone, uninstall some bloatware, and then get the cwm recover files in place (DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER). Then flash drhonk's bali3.3UV kernel from here, and enable voodoo lagfix ext4 partitions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1080871
I ran this setup for a while on my phone, and it was great - oem, fast, and stable. If she wants a bit more options and flare, you can flash the ICBINB froyo rom also.
I'm gonna have to try that when she gets the replacemnt Monday thanks again everyone you been a tremendous help

Sorry for the dub post
So if I follow what you said to do right here, she have the original android that came on the phone(puzzle piece lockscreen and all) with less bloat and what seems to be a better kernel?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
yep!
unroot with superoneclick. then you can install titanium backup and remove a lot of bloatware that comes on the phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1025610
Then you can install cwm recovery.zip and the recovery file - you'll need to push the files into the correct directories using a file explorer that has root access (I use "root explorer").
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1099374
From there you boot into recovery (turn phone off, then hold volume up + volume down, and press the power button while still holding the volume buttons). choose "reinstall packages" and you then have CWM. At this point, it would be a good idea to backup your rom, using the backup feature. Then you can "install from zip file" and flash kernels, roms, and modems that are on your SD card. Here's the Bali UV kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1080871
when you are done, you can even go back to superoneclick, and UNroot to lock the phone down again.
good luck!

[Q] G2X Questions from a Vibrant user looking to Upgrade

Okay, a friend wants to buy my Vibrant from me and I am actually happy with it except for lack of any decent options to move from 2.2.x without losing battery life/gps (that's a different forum's discussion)..
So, I don't want to spend a LOT but I don't want a dog of a phone either. I have some specific questions on the G2X...
1) CM7/MIUI: Are they *100%* functional? As in, no "but" or "except" in the list. On the Vibrant, for example, on CM7, you get bad battery life, limping GPS and broken 911 calling. Is CM7 a viable option on the G2X for a daily driver? I am personally tired of seeing threads on various phones I've had in the past that said "100% functional" but when you get to using it, turns out it's not.
2) LG Support -vs- 3rd party. I am *not* asking if LG is going to release ICS. What I am asking is, will the dev community be dependent on LG's release to be able to properly support ICS in the future? Ie, again, on the Vibrant, CM7 is broken because Samsung never released a GB rom for the Vibrant and thus no kernel source. Is this going to be a problem on the G2X if LG doesn't release ICS?
I really don't want to spend the extra $100 it will cost me for a Sensation 4G.... I'm just not sure, basically, what to expect of 3rd party and specifically AOSP/CM7 support for the G2X in the future...
Input?
There will never be a perfect rom, ether gps, wifi, data, bluetooth, something will not work as it should, so if you want a "100% no buts, long lasting perfect phone" get one of the Motorola razr v3 or one of those flip phones from back then.
1. No ROM out for the G2x is perfect consider LG's work was far from perfect and what we have is much improved, but still a work in progress. Do we occasionally have APN issues (I never have, but as a community, yes) or sleep of deaths (Funny you mention, Sensation gets them too), yes but they're few and far between and there is work being done to fix them.
2. Because CM and a few others build straight from source, at this point it shouldn't matter if LG makes an ICS build or not. Maybe for a few things, like AD2P function, but otherwise, I'm not concerned.
I have a lot of friends who own Sensations, and I still think I made the better purchase in the G2x.
Hands up for g2x, friend have sensation, htc desirr, hd2.. 3 of us have rooted g2x with miui as last rom... all good
Sent via MIUI-G2X
So I went ahead and bit the bullet and upgraded. Already rooted and using weapon Rom. Will give this one a go for a while before trying.g out cyanogen. In fact I may just wait for an ICS cyanogen in a few months.

I came from a Vibrant and I'm so thankful I chose this phone. It feels better in the hand, it's faster, CM7 works better, the GPS works and the HDMI output is really nice. I'm iffy on buying a Samsung again after having the Vibrant.

Besides the fact that I scratched the screen 2 days after I got it, and the ICS uncertainty, I do like it a lot. I especially like the price T-Mobile is running it at since I'm on the Value plan and had to pay full price.
It does seem that the modder community for this phone is a bit smaller than the Vibrant.

Why did i ever trade?!

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1678524
well, the mytouch 4g now has a almost completely fully functioning JB ROM and the g2x has a half-assed alpha test (sorry, EB team, not trying to belittle your work). grrrr. bout to go trade for a 4g slide. what really eats me, is that the G2x is a superior phone hardware wise to most phones even now. and definitively better than the mytouch. I feel the g2x community has fallen apart and due to that, there will never be a completely functional well.....anything. we should be all working together to iron out the wrinkles in JB not fighting over who developed what first or who can or cant use what code....I'm sorry, but who gives a flying f*** about the code when nothing since froyo has actually been 100% stable and functional on our devices?
im sorry, im just a bit meeved that i traded now. the reason why is in the specs of our phone:
http://geekaphone.com/compare/T-Mobile-G2x-vs-T-Mobile-myTouch-4G
and the state of our community as G2x owners:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1784980
I'm sure i'll be flamed, shunned, and burned for this thread but i really dont care. i like my G2x despite its many downfalls. i want to see it prosper and run JB and other future versions of android.
thanks for reading.

Using the old baseband I have been 100% stable since I first got the g2x... everything works perfectly (aside from slow gps but it still works)
HFP, CM7, and CM7.2 just to name a few have no bugs other than user error which as we all know can't be fixed (because you just can't fix stupid)
I do understand where your coming from however your "facts" are a little skewed.
Good luck with the coding, I hope you will be the next great Dev!
Pin it to Win it.
Even though I don't use my G2X as my main phone anymore, it is my go to device as my tablet device. I know I don't have a tablet, but when I need to read news, stream videos, read emails, do all sorts of things, the G2X is my go to device. Hands down CM7 is solid and stable. I do need to reboot it a couple of times a week but I'm not stressed about it.
I've not updated the BB mainly because of the ROMs needing a special modification, and lose access to all the previous ROMs.
I don't care really. I want to use the ICS ROMs but they have bugs. Again all the hate goes to LG. Devs do best they can with little they do have access to.
I have the Galaxy S2, Amaze, and G2X. Hands down, my go to device is my G2X when I am home and in WiFi range. Its faster and snappier. What a waste LG did. Even display is better than the Amaze. It really pisses me off that HTC went cheap on the Amaze's display.
I use the GS2 now because it's got a stable CM9, and honestly detested the Stock ROM. If G2X had a stable CM9 (Full Support with Drivers and everything) and the GPS issue was reliable, I swear I'd go back to my G2X as my main device.
As for reliability is concerned, GS2 and Amaze hands down. Again, pisses me off LG screwed this phone royally.

thats exactly what i was saying. this is the best phone i have ever owned hardware wise. Yes, this is mostly Nvidia & LG's fault, but its still frustrating. my fiancee just got the blaze and its ok. its pretty snappy, but when my G2x is on stock rom, it stomps it... no questions asked. and yeah, the GPS bug is what i was talking abot from pre v21y. also, it is really a pain in the a$$ just to figure out how to downgrade basebands, let alone actually do it. alas, the g2x is my daily driver so i need it to preform well and be stable. that means i need bluetooth calling, working GPS, MMS, all that.
Yeah... Can't argue with you there. The G2x is a POS. I traded my MT4G for this phone too, while I don't really regret it since I got more money once I sold the G2x, the MT4G was far more reliable and every ROM just worked on it.
Either way, it was a lesson learned to never buy another LG phone no matter what the specs are. Samsung and HTC is the way to go from now on. Or better yet, Nexus!

Disagree. Gingerbread 2.3.3 stunk on the G2x, and Nvidia's policy of keeping its drivers "closed-source" sucks!

Strongly agree! For $350, I know what I'd buy in a second if my G2x took a crap on me. Still, considering my 2 year contract came with a "free" G2x on each line nearly a year ago - I am not complaining. By the way, stock based 2.3.4 Gingerbread ROMs define stable for me (Thanks Kwes and Buru). However, I suppose I like a little instability in my life though since I married a woman?!? and use CM7 ROMs!?!:silly:
i've been seriously condsidering getting a loan and buying a nexus, than cancelling with t-mobile lol it'd probably be cheaper in the long run.
It's just a phone. If you want to be on the bleeding edge and have something to play around with just get a nexus 7.
I think a lot of people are just jealous that others get ics/jb and don't realize that it's not that big of a difference. g2x works great when I don't have my tablet.

New sgs4g user coming from LG OptT..

I've had an OptT for about a year now and well a biddy of mine is selling me a sgs...I'm not exactly new to the whole rooting and custom roms ordeal but I am new to this forum...I've seen quite a few good looking roms in the dev section (things I can't wait to try out) . I've taken a quick look thru the stickies so I hope no one feels as if I'm completely new to android considering I've done development for the G1 back in 2008-2010...anyways what all do I need in order to get the sgs4g rooted and enjoying these roms? Has anyone used gingerbreak to root there sgs4g or is everyone using one click? I haven't taken a look at gsmarena for the exact specs of the phone but I'm assuming its an armv7 because I'm coming from an armv6 device. Also the LG OptT does have a few good ICSs roms even an unofficial build of jellybean but since the device runs an armv6 processor we are missing omx forecast. Is the sgs4g missing anything? That's about all I can think of right now bit ill be scanning this forum and I hope to hear some good feedback b4 I decide to buy my buddies phone

Use "Auto" in SuperOneClick. If it ever freezes up DO NOT TOUCH! Little Zerglings are rushing inside your phone to root it.
We also have ICS and we have an upcoming major ICS update which will fix allot of issues pertaining things such as battery life.
As it is easy to hack the SGS4G it is also easy to brick, so read instructions. If you don't understand anything, read the forums, search, find out more and if you do find out your answer maybe you'll find more things than you actually need which is good. Do not ask a question unless you are sure of it. LG is different from Samsung so don't assume that because they're both android doesn't mean they're the same thing.
And also welcome to the SGS4G forums*
I took a look at gmsarena and I saw the specs..only 512mb ram with 1gb internal storage,I figured it was alittle more than that but switching from my current phone to the sgs4g is an upgrade..I have prepaid by the way,I'm guessing theres no difference....I appreciate the quick response though....

This phone is not exactly brickable..
Its one of the most durable phones on the market actually.
Its easy to "soft brick" but that's easily recoverable as well
Ha! This phone is as good as the newer phones. But with lower specs.
I might get the new Galaxy Nexus for the newest official Google updates. If bhundven releases the majorly updated ICS, I might keep my SGS4G for a few weeks to taste the new ICS flavor and after I get bored with it, I might sell it, either in stock form or a custom ROM.
are you sure it's the Samsung galaxy s 4g t959v?
----------------------------------------------
If helped don't be afraid to hit the thanks button it doesn't bite lol
That's great because its easy as hell to brick the LG optimus T..I bricked 2 of em...we have basebands that improve signal ie..v10 for early froyo builds and v20 series for GB and up.one thing I've noticed is there doesn't seem to be any official cm7 builds but I haven't explored every thread in the forum either (kinda hard to do on just my phone alone). Than again I don't have a computer either...I took a look at the wiki page and its full of information that is somewhat overwhelming considering its easy as hell to root my current device back in the day rooting phones was a bit more tedious but now people have created applications for that sorta thing? Another question,I've seen the phone has the option for TV out bit I've seen quite a few remarks on ICS development threads that TV out isn't working. For my current phone, development is slow considering we are on an outdated processor (armv6)...I just wanna make sure that my new phone (sgs4g) hasn't seen any slowed progress in development because I would like to start developing again...hearing about ODIN isn't my first trail,I e just never used it....currently I'm on popdog123's oxygen gb rom,I was using an ICS rom but true development for ICS on the LG Optimus T is slowly coming to a halt and were starting to see alot more themed gingerbread roms. Were also missing omx codecs for HD video playback. Its an adreno220 so for a while we never thought we would have ICS..Panorama doesn't work for LG Optimus T on ICS roms atleaat not entirely and considering it has low memory, performance does lag..I'm an advanced user with LG but completely new to Samsung devices,LG is ****ty so I'm hoping there are no barriers with the phone im about to purchase, eventually I'd like to settle for a more advanced phone but the sgs4g is a huge update considering I've never had a phone with more than 600mhtz processor either. If all of this is in any speculation of moronic, please feel free to to close thread but I have a good feeling that I've placed it in the right forum, just trying to get some good info b4 I dish out hard earned money on a slightly better phone...any suggestions on where to begin (from others other than the user who replied first, please tell me)

First you have to have access to a computer to root this thing.
We have unofficial cm7 & cm9 and
ATM we do not have TV out working on ics builds.
We have 2 one-click programs that work well for this device.
1- gremlin remover (the one i use which is an oden program)
2-heimdall one-click (never used it personally)
Both programs are also used to bring you back to stock rooted state if and when you soft brick your device.
So there's no way I can root the phone unless I had a computer with two programs you speak of? I was under the assumption that I could use superoneclick or gingerbreak to root

You still need a computer for super one click. But it is much easier to flash a custom kernel and recovery via heimdall one clicks. With SoC it takes about 10-15 minutes, with a heimdall one click its a matter of 5 minutes if you are already on Gingerbread. If not then its about 15 mintues.
That's odd, not that I don't believe you but I never used a computer to root a phone with super one click, maybe that's because I have a LG phone...I did use super one click once and gingerbreak twice
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda premium
Unfortunately thereseems to be no way out without a computer
Also you don't need both programs I mentioned.....just one or the other
Ugh.....well maybe I can attempt to use my sisters computer....who knows.....so is there an updated thread with rooting instructions because after viewing the wiki page there just seems to be so many different ways of rooting bit all of em are a year old or older...
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda premium
My prefered choice is to go to the dev thread and dl gremlin remover extract it and follow just the last instructions
TV Out does work on the Aries build.
OP: Look at the guide in the first link of my signature.
I have flashed custom roms to a crap ton of phones. I've gone from a Optimus V (same exact thing on a different network), all the way up to a galaxy s2 ( hercules) with, a G1, motorola backflip, motorola triumph, samsung vibrant, galaxy s 4g, lg g2x, samsung blaze, and an htc sensation and I'm sure I'm missing a few and I can say with %100 confidence the galaxy s 4g was the biggest pain in the A.
Going from the optimus to the 4g is a deceptively large jump. You're getting twice the processing power and a much better over all phone. The screen will make you weep with joy after using the optimus for so long.
I'd recommend using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1223765 right off the bat and then just immediately flashing from the recovery that that installs to an ics build.
I tried other methods and got stuck in a recovery loop that drove me crazy and then I found that link and it fixed all my problems and let me flash to cm9 right from it. When you flash cm9 it will update the recovery and then you have to flash it again right after a reboot.
I tossed Google Now on there and for all major appearances it acts a lot like JB. I think google now is the single major noticeable difference between ics and jb besides the saposed speed increases.
So in short, yes get the phone if you can get it for a good price. Then install ICS right away unless battery life is a huge deal breaker. If it is then there's some great GB builds, but I personally prefer the cm9 nightlies.

FCC Complaint for G2X

Please all G2x owners - if you have had problems with your phone, file a complaint with the FCC. I would post the link but:
"To prevent spam on the XDA forums, ALL new users prevented from posting outside links in their messages. After approximately 10 posts, you will be able to post outside links. Thank you for understanding!"
uhh...right. So you'll just have to google FCC online complaint and follow the link.
I filed it under wireless carrier and tmobile, though LG is just as much to blame for this piece of garbage. We were advertised a top of the line smartphone and provided a worthless piece of garbage that overheats, randomly reboots, has hardware wifi and gps problems, and will not receive a promised ICS update.
Did I mention they lied about pulling the device from shelves because it was defective? Do I even need to?
Let's make them hurt.
Lolz
Where did you ever see ICS was promised?
LG did upgrade us. From 2.2.2-2.3.3-2.3.4.
So we did recieve upgrades. Just because you want and expect ICS does not mean they have to.
They even released official notice that G2x will not receive ICS.
As for all the other issues, my phone ran great after 2.3.4 update and above mentioned conflicts were resolved.
I personally choose to run CM7 but stock 2.3.4 was a huge resolve and fix from 2.3.3.
Good luck...

If you're satisfied with waiting over a year for a working update, and working phone, that's your choice. I paid for a working phone when I bought the device.

don't know about you but mine always worked fine.
And worked better when I got the 2.3.4 update a few months later,
Coming from the g2x to now the SGS III that phone does not work properly. I thought it was a good phone with cm on it, buru rom, I tried them all. Nothing makes that phone worth saying "it got all I needed done" there were plenty of times I wanted to throw it across the room, still do since I handed it down to my mother (who hates it also). I would purchase from LG again, if the hardware specs were what I am looking for.
I buy devices for their hardware, not factory stock software.
And the hardware on my G2x with my modding is awesome and still puts some of these newer devices to shame.
Example, I would NEVER by something Acer made.
But I did buy the Iconia A100 from them. Out of the box, it was junk. I modded it and it's what I wanted to be.
Hardware specs> Tegra 2
1 GB RAM
1200x600 resolution
For my android gaming needs.
Would I buy another Acer even though in factory condition it's useless? Yes, as long as the hardware specs meet what I am looking for.
EDIT: At this time I am going to bow out of this thread before it gets heated. Good luck OP with your future endeavors. My point has been spoken, made, and seconded. lol

Yea this is probably the 1st time I would have to disagree with ya. The G2x is pretty badass assuming you have one that's not plagued with hardware issues. This phone definetly does all I need it to
I just came back from a trip and was able to watch my movie on-the- plane, Bluetooth my music while navigating to my destination and looking up restaurants on yelp through the car stereo and then back at the hotel hook my phone up via HDMI to the TV to stream my movie and show a PowerPoint presentation. My wife has the sgs3 and still is debating the overpriced mhl cable so she can hook up to the TV like my G2x can with a 3.00 cable from Amazon

Honestly, if you're on xda, then why care at this point? We have gingerbread roms and kernels that add more features and make the phone run better than it ever would. After using fauxs kernel, performance is buttery smooth for me; much smoother than any stock phone I've used. Also, ics just released in Korea for the su660. Pretty soon we'll have cm10 nightlies and a stable release after.
I don't see a reason to complain about the g2x. It's a decent little phone with great community support. What more could you ask for? As long as you're smart and don't buy another LG phone (especially one with a locked bootloader), there's no need to get upset.

Hehehe. Yup Unfortunately All G2xs r not created equal...
yeah i sure wouldnt want to buy another LG phone ever, but i heard the next nexus phone is from LG.........FUUUUUCK D:
The G2x may have good hardware, but it performs for ****. I came from the LG Optimus M and the LG Optimus V before getting the G2x and I stuck with LG due to prior positive experiences. Never again. The M and V performed better out of the box, albeit with lesser hardware capabilities. I never had ANY problems with either one of those phones, yet the G2x gave me problem after problem from day one. I should have returned it when I had the chance, but I thought I should give it a chance. That's too bad, too, because the Galaxy SII was released two weeks after I purchased mine.
I was hoping for a Nexus phone next, but I'll pass if it's LG and just wait to see if Samsung or HTC are also going to release ones as well. Honestly, at this point, I'm also thinking on switching over to Windows Phone 8 when my contract is up next year.

Definitely if you don't have a plagued one, unfortunately there are a butt load of them that are plagued and LG just sat and watched and made new phones, and new phones with issues as well. GPS sucks on the device most of the time, screen is horrid, battery could be worse... pairing it up against my gs3 and i get frustrated trying to use it at times, especially with freezes and hotboots and the phone getting extremely hot while charging on the regular... of course I figured out how to get around those problems with a rom and what not... nvidia made it worse with their closed source and stuff. If it weren't for the devs we have/had I would've tossed the phone out a long time ago.
