I want to flash radio, but if something goes wrong, can i go back to original radio? Can NANDROID backup makes backup of radio or not? Please Help
As I read your device can brick if you flash the wrong radio...
Nandroid backup does not backup the radio.
When you say "if something goes wrong", what did you have in mind? If you find that there is no improvement, or it is worse, then you can simply go back to the original one by reflashing.
Have patience, and keep an eye on the vertical progress bar in the top right hand side of the screen (as the radio is being flashed), the phone will let you reboot once its done.
Peace

Hello @chris5s, Thanks....I have MIUI call sound problem(Echo, changed voice) with all versions available, even latest 1.9.2. so if i flash with new radio, can we get good sound? or its MIUI issue?

I think its MIUI issue, but check the MIUI thread because there are others with same problem. I'm pretty sure its related to the kernel and/or drivers in MIUI release.
Peace
Even though its not possible to back up your RADIO, it's possible and I consider good practice to have a copy of multiple RADIOS on both your PC and your SD card at all times.
You'll always find everything you seek in this INDEX thread under the RADIO there are two entries, one which details all RADIOS and which ROM version was originally released with which one and the other containing the recently leaked RADIO

looks at the thread links in my previous posts.
When I say multiple radio's obviously you can only use one at a time.
But when changing radios or trying a new one, you should always have the old one to hand in case you need to revert.

BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL WHEN FLASHING OR MODIFYING THE RADIO.IMG AS THIS IS THE EASIEST WAY TO BRICK YOUR PHONE
All of the update.zips work 100% of the time. There has been no report of brick and i have used all of them at least once. if you dont like a new radio flash the old one. Good luck!
the stock radio.img is from the 1.56 RUU for the SPRINT CDMA HERO
There are three Radios here. stock, 2.41.04.02.03, and 2.42.00.03.10. they are in order from release date. high number=newer. radios are risky so i suggest sticking with one. they almost never cause worse performance. if you TRULY feel your signal has degraded i put the stock in here for you to return to.
Update!2 ok so with the new release of 2.42.01.04.27 i was kinda on the ehhh bar with it. i never like new releases because they will always take something from you.
so in this case they have taken the ability to use data with a .27 kernel. so if you flash this radio, you will not get data with any rom that has .27. including the fresh toast 1.1 and all 1.5's. so its up to you. i didnt gain one thing from this radio. battery life and signal stay 100% the same. i did lose data though.
so personally i would stick with 2.42.00.03.10

Just to be sure ... I am only asking this as a precaution as I do not want to brick my phone. These are for the SPRINT CDMA HERO correct? And when you say STOCK you mean the Radio that was originally installed on the SPRINT CDMA HERO like "out of box" so to speak?... Again I'm asking to clear up assumptions. a.k.a. Is this for 1.5 as well or is this to be used only on fresh 2.0b

I updated the radio to 2.41.04.02.02 earlier today and saw my download speeds decrease by about 50%. So I finally tried to flash back the Stock radio posted here. The good news it didn't brick my phone but it also didn't work. My phone still shows version 2.41.04.02.02. When I did the flash of the Stock radio file I never saw any error message and I didn't see the message about extracting radio file. Any ideas? Thanks

well i just retried it with the attached signed stock radio.img and it worked correctly. you may want to double check that in nandroid you are selecting the stock one not the 2.41.04.02.03-signed.zip one

It was the Stock img because is was the last one in the list to select. Are you using the instructions from geekforme to do the flash. That is what I was following.

yes you did it right. it should have worked although it still shows the old baseband. you now have the old radio. its not updating that for some reason i will fix once i find out why

Are you saying that my phone is now using the stock radio ver 1? If you are, I don't think it is because my download speeds are still way slower then before I did the ver 2 update.
Speedtest.net app available in market:
Phone was reset, then ATK was run killing all open apps. Test run at 12:30am so shouldn't be too much tower traffic, although my speeds never fall below 1000kbps
FACTORY RADIO
Test 1 (4/6 bars):
2239kbps down 671kbps up 285ms ping
Test 2 (5/6 bars):
1716kbps down 766kbps up 326ms ping
Test 3 (5/6 bars):
2199kbps down 617kbps up 342ms ping
UPDATED RADIO:
Speedtest.net app on phone.
Test 1 (4/6 bars):
2026kbps down 510kbps up 175ms ping
Test 2 (5/6 bars):
1671kbps down 715kbps up 183ms ping
Test 3 (5/6 bars):
1847kbps down 751kbps up 174ms ping
The decreased ping time is very obvious. Web sites start loading just a hair bit faster. The results are obvious ping times were cut in half!

You don't really, I would go look in the section for whatever rom you flashed. I'm assuming you did rc mix, and then flash a radio from someone who has that same rom and isn't having any problems with it. Thats your best bet.
I'm running Leedroid right now. Does have the best radio for ATT in the US?

Sure, but you will understand it better if you read it your self. Basically flashing a radio can do a few things, one being to enable HSUPA, this can also be accomplished just by flashing certain roms. Also it helps with WIFI, calling(signal, speed etc) problems in some cases. This is all going to depend on which rom you have, the area, the cell provider(i'm assuming your all on ATT like me) and also it varies. I ran the "telus" radio for a long time with RC mix, but with the latest builds of the rom started having problems with the call not connecting when i pressed "call" and failing. I have since switched to the Cyanogen mod rom and am on the latest radio which is listed in my sig. This has improved call quality, battery life(from the rom and radio as a combo), and also call reliability(no dropped calls, calls failing etc) Hope that helps you guys
Is there away to go back to the stock radio if something goes wrong?
If you don't have problems with the stock radio then just stick with it. There's more risk than reward when flashing radio.

Yeah I have to agree. If you mess up somehow while flashing the radio, your phone will become a paper weight. If its not giving you problems, then no need to flash the radio.

Flashing the radio does not enable HSUPA on the Inspire 4G. From what I know, the Captivate requires to flash a different radio to enable HSUPA.
Editing the build.prop enables HSUPA.
modified from Kirk's old post
1. Download this file http://www.megaupload.com/?d=BX5GV1CJ
this is a zip file containing two files. one is radio.img from ATT stock radio, dont touch the other file.
you need to remove this img file and replace with the Gingerbread radio.img
from here http://www.multiupload.com/BE0V4H8QQY
extract the radio.img and zip into the PD98IMG.zip with the other file already in the PD981img.zip. (two files)
2. Place the PD98IMG.zip radio file on the root of your SD card.
3. Power the phone off, remove and reinsert the battery.
4. Hold the volume button down and press power on.
5. The phone will boot into Hboot then Bootloader, It should see the PD98IMG.zip and ask if you want to apply the zip.
6. Use the volume up button to select "yes"
7. Once its done flashing, reboot the phone and you should have flashed the radio.
I hope I get some credit from my post. Lol

So we all know not to touch the toggle in CM7 for 2G/3G, I personally found that out the hard way, but I read that you could do it through settings, well now that I tried that, it's even worse. I have reset the phone/changed radios/roms, had my sim card repushed 3 times now, off and on 20 times, nothing will get this #*@#ing phone to find telus again... WTF. anyways, its going back maybe this thing is glitched?
Alright, new phone. SIM card is the same from my other phone, and it's working fine, so there was a serious malfunction in the other one, not sure if it was because of cyanogen or the radio.
Does anyone know how to back up the stock radio?

+1 if you can back up that radio id like a copy pleasee...since there is no official rom for our phones yet Im so scared before trying anything, but I make the jump after hours of reading up lol.
after lots of reading and posting questions, I think we (as in with cdn i9020a) should play the safe card for now and only go as far as rooting and installing superuser. obviously all these custom roms are based on US versions of NS.

The phone is fairly new so it will take a bit, things will get better. I just want to make sure I post anything that I find really screws things up, so no one else has to learn the hard way. Hi,
I have just recently acquired my first android device - a Sensation.
I have followed the guides on here and have got s-off and have been flashing roms.
Wow! This is all totally up my street and I love it - thanks to all the devs and people here who are making this possible!!
but I do have a quick question....
Im wondering what happens when I flash a new radio and kernal.
I know the radio is the bit that connects to the network etc and that the kernal is the bit that provied the core of the operating system but what happens if I flash new ones on top of an existing rom and then revert back to a nandroid backup or if I perform a full wipe and then flash a new rom? Am I stuck with the new radio and kernal or are they both replaced with the new rom?
thanks!

Some ROMs include a custom kernel. Otherwise they use stock. They don't include radios. If you flash a ROM the kernel gets flashed too. If you want to use a different kernel you flash that after flashing a ROM. If you restore from recovery your ROM and kernel go back to what you backed up.
You flash radios apart from ROMs. Flashing ROMs does not change your radio. Radios also control wifi, bluetooth, GPS.
Ok great thanks for clearing that up!
I'm not 100% clued up on this whole radio thing though.... I have read that they are region specific yet some roms recommend you to update to a specific radio. I am worried that once I start fiddling with these radios I will end up screwing the performance of my phone.
I have also read that there is a higher risk of bricking your phone when flashing a radio which puts me off a bit.
And finally, how can I backup the radio I have now so that I can go back if needed?

Yes flashing a radio can be risky because a failure there can brick it. As long a you get a radio for the Sensation, do the md5 checksum, and don't pull the battery while flashing, it should not brick it. A bricked phone is almost always accomplished by someone not reading and following directions correctly.
Flashing radios and kernels are for more advanced/power users. Most of the time you are probably fine with your current radio and if you have no issues there is no reason to have to do it.
Flashing ROMs is much safer and is usually all you need to turn your phone into a beast.
Thanks!

Hi there, I have had this problem before. I am no dev so I can't explain the technical issue, but this usually happens when you flash a mod that's not compatible with your ROM... if its compatible and your ROM has updated, the mod sometimes needs to be updated to be compatible with the latest version of your ROM.
Reflashing your ROM will completely fix the issue. I hate to say it, but ALWAYS do backups before flashing anything through recovery!!!

He's not rooted it seems. You first need to calm down. Then, go to settings -> About phone and see what build you have. If it's 2.20 then go here. If it's 1.73 or 1.82 go here. If it's 1.85 then go here. Once rooted, if you have anything but 2.20 you won't need to flash the boot.img seperately. In order to flash the boot.img go here.

That happened to me on my old LG G2X. I tried to do something similar with a different program. It was messing with SystemUI.apk. I had created a backup before it did its work so I just replaced it, rebooted and it was fine. Might not be the same problem just because the symptoms are similar. If you had an unmodified SystemUI.apk file you could probably just overwrite it. Worst case, just flash a new ROM.
But yeah, in the future always take backups before you do anything like that. I learned that the hard way a few times.
