[Q] Rooting Sony Ericsson SK17i - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hi XDA Members,
I'm a newbie in term of using Android based phone. I've been reading a lot about rooting the phone which actually makes sense give you the super power to control the phone.
But here is my concern, is rooting the phone known as Cracking/Hacking the phone. Now is its a yes, I'm still willing to do that but would like to know if it will void its warranty. 2nd, if I root my phone and for any reason I would like to switch back to the orignal OS will it un-void the warranty as in the phone would be like I purchased it!!!
Waiting for input quite excited to explore the Android world...I have sony ericsson x10 mino pro *SK17i*...
Thanks,
Sam

Yeah you are correct, you have to use flashtool, SEUS or Pc Companion to flash back to stock rom/fw and your phone will no longer be rooted therefore warrenty is no longer void

Should I root my x10i now or wait?

Okay my question is simple, should I root my x10 now or wait for the 2.1 SE update.
Also does anybody have any info about the boot loader, I've seen various posts saying its been cracked, has it? And if not any idea how long before it is?
Thanks

Root is the way forward
Rooted now got bored so I rooted it just waiting for bootloader so I can flash 2.1 or 2.2 on

Would like to expand a little upon this thread. I am at the same position as OP was, and my only concern is that I heard some apps in the market are not available for rooted phone (instead of the other way around) due to some protection coding. Is that true? Are there any major apps that are particularly note worthy?

I haven't had any problems since my root, phone if anything works better, google and download an app called x10 root, this will root your phone without all the fuss. If you want to undo the root install universal androot and unroot it. They are not on the market though.
Hope this helps bud

Beware if you root be careful what you uninstall as some apps eg media and timescape are linked into the functionality of the phone.

Like above said, be careful what you remove. Titanium backup is what I used. Freeze stuff first to test.
First root I did i killed timescape, gave me no end of problems.

[Q] To root or not to root..thats the question!

Hey guys,
since more than a month i am using the xperia active from Sony Ericsson and i ve still guarantee on it.
It s an awesome smartphone, but sometimes the RAM is overloaded and it starts to lag.
Then the battery works for just a day, because of the background-apps, then i ve to charge it again... really annoying
Thats why i want to root my smartphone. Actually i ve ICS(4.0.4) on it (before it was 2.3 or sth.) and i would like to keep it, but on it i want superuser rights. Therefore i found "zergrush" from doomlord, but in other threads i just read thats for Android 2.2/2.3 ...
Is it possible to root my phone without loosing my guarantee (to make root "nearly" unseen after unroot, in case of warranty) on that device?
(sorry for my bad english, i hope you understood my situation and give me some answers )
greetings Red
You can try rooting using Doomlords method for ICS
Flash a stock kernel of 4.0.3
Root it using Doomlords kit
PS its a batch file
Flash back 4.0.4 kernel
Done !!!

Try at your own risk

So read a few threads beforehand !

Noo, dont root. Youll get stuck in fastboot and spend $12 on repairs!

Whether you're going to root it or not is up to u. However, if u do root and u want to make it unseen or unroot, flashing an official stock rom removes the root data.
i read a thread that made a few things clear, i cant remember who posted it (sorry) but it just said that if they cant prove that u rooting your phone is the cause of whatever wrnt rong with your phone, they will still have to fix it under the warranty.
I also never heard of anyone messing up their android as a result of rooting.
Im not saying jump into it and root your android, be careful as we are always warned that their are risks onvolved and developers knows best

For sure root it´s the best option for anyone that like to customize the system.
You should try superoneclick its a program which basically roots your your phone for you, gives you superuser and there shouldn't be drastic changes to your OS either
google it and download then go to youtube and follow a tutorial such as youtubeDOTcom/watch?v=lD4_wAj1WIY (sorry cant post links yet)
As for warranties I'm not sure but this is the safest and easiest method I'm aware of
but you should probably make sure it works on your phone and make a backup before you try it

[Q] check warranty on xperia rooted [HELP]

hey guys.
i have a xperia j (rooted) , i know that xperia's dont have binary counter , i guess .
so my question is how i check if my phone is available to warranty .
anyone?
Well, if you still have warranty left and your speakers stop working(or something like that). You can simply unroot with SuperSU, and your warranty magically returns!
Hope I helped and have a nice day!

Being rooted does not invalidate your warranty as the superuser apps are in the playstore.
This was a European Court ruling.

Sony Xperia Z1 Flashed, Now No Signal.

Hello,
I originaly had a UK 02 version of xperia z1, and had some issues with it when messing, i then flashed C6903_14.1.G.1.518_Generic UK_1276-0875_R8A.ftf firmware on it as i believed it was the stock one, and it works almost perfectly except i get no signal or service, just the red x next to the transparent signal bars. Does anyone know what this is and how to fix it, have i put the wrong rom on there?
Regards,
Andy

I'm sorry, you must take your phone to Sony Service, my Xperia Tipo has the same problem you didn't flash the correct firmware, although they may seem the same, the aren't you Should have gotten the firmware according to your device build number for example mine:
Sony Xperia Tipo [St21i]
I'm very sorry but your phone is completely useless until you take it to service, it cannot recognize you Sim card even though you can input your pin.
If you can find the correct firmware and flash it relock the boot loader unroot it and return it to sony.
Use the "I don't know what happend method while explaining "

So there is litrally no firmware available whatsoever that will enable me to get a signal?

Hi.
Lately I 've been bugging with the inability to operate the sd card and I was thinking to try rooting my Z3...
Still I dont want to change anything, but to get su in the console and to be able to use the SD...
Also I have warranty with Sony which I would like to keep.
So is there such un option? All I see in #dev is cyanogen or smth...

BTW...you shouldn't have any problems on 5.0.2, everything is working.
And yeah...root on Sony device won't void warranty.
You can always "unroot" your device...
I was using Z3 few days without root and stupid popups and banners destroyed me...
Z3 powered by Tapatalk
Thanks for the info.
Still the fix in lollipop ? is a workaround or is works like in ICS ?
