Is root for me? - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
Lately I 've been bugging with the inability to operate the sd card and I was thinking to try rooting my Z3...
Still I dont want to change anything, but to get su in the console and to be able to use the SD...
Also I have warranty with Sony which I would like to keep.
So is there such un option? All I see in #dev is cyanogen or smth...

BTW...you shouldn't have any problems on 5.0.2, everything is working.
And yeah...root on Sony device won't void warranty.
You can always "unroot" your device...
I was using Z3 few days without root and stupid popups and banners destroyed me...
Z3 powered by Tapatalk

Thanks for the info.
Still the fix in lollipop ? is a workaround or is works like in ICS ?

Motorola Defy Mini low internal storage space

Hello i recently bought a motorola defy mini 600mhz 512mb ram 150mb internal storage and a 16gb sd card.
I have a couple of apps and the internal storage is already full, this is my first android phone and i have heard of rooting but it hasnt been discovered for my phone.
Is it possible to set the sd card memory to be seen as internal memory?
And is it possible to install a new android version?
Thank you

What can we defy mini users do?
Only wait for the root method to be discovered?
Sent from my XT320 using XDA
i think so
Setting sd as internel memory is commonly referred to as "partitioning", where a part of the sd is used as internel mem...
However, for that, you require root access, and a kernel that supports init.d scripts...

How can i know when rooting becomes availible for the defy mini?
Sent from my XT320 using XDA
That is a difficult question to answer...
Does your device have a forum on xda? (Check in the legacy and low activity sub-forum)
If it has, things get a little easier since people can then come together and experiment with different methods...
I'm guessing it does not, so the next thing left is trial and error...
If you are willing to risk your warranty and a possible bricked device, you can try a few of the popular gb methods (I'm assuming your phone is on gb), like gingerbreak, superoneclick, or unviersal root tool etc...
HOWEVER, do this at your own risk, as you cannot hold anyone else responsible for any damages...
Also, from what I've heard, motorola phones usually have a locked bootloader...and unfortunately, I have no experience with such devices (as mine does not have a locked bootloader)...messing around with the bootloaders increases chances of bricking...

I doubt if SuperOneClick does the job. Rooting your phone is easy as 123 with that tool, but on some phones it turns out to nothing. I guess they already tried it.
It didn't work on my poor Mini...
It would be the best if you wait for an official method.
Sent from my GT-S5570 using XDA
Yeah i have already used it but it didnt work.
I hope the official method comes out soon because its quite long since the release of the phone.

Official method?
A phone gets root as people try to root it...there's nothing that the manufacturer does!
Its all trial and error...or some people study the source and find out ways to root!

Oh well by official method i was refering to a real coder or developer would find a way to root it.

I mean a method that is tested by some pro people that know how to root it.
By the way, you might want to read this thread.

Of course I don't try it since it is for Motorola phones only. And I have Samsung. Good luck though

That seems intresting but where do I get a rooted gingerbread userdata partition image (aka CG37) from?
I will try that method out and if it works or not I will report back.

So.. did someone managed to finally root the Defy Mini? How can a phone this cheap be so hard to root?
The processor in this phone can run from 600 to 800Mhz (as Qualcomm says), but it is blocked to 600 on the official room. This cpu should run fine at 900-1000Mhz. Also we would get even better performance if we manage to put a stock android on it and get rid of Motorola bloatware.
Din pacate inca nimica.
Unfortunatly nothing yet.
hey i dont know whether this works or not but i found a flashable zip to root....
www . mediafire . com/?6a863tfqb9pc2d9(note der r some space in links bcoz my links are not visible without space...so remove spaces in link and go to link)
flash this file in recovery and see whether this file roots motorola defy mini or not....
pls reply what happens...
i am just helping you all to get your phone rooted pls dont insult me if it doesnt root
What if it brakes or bricks my phone?

[Q] Please help me deal with emulated SD card.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S II plus running 4.2.2. Most of my apps are installed into my internal memory which shows up as my emulated sd card even though I have a 16gb class 10 sd card. I understand this is a Samsung design feature. I have two questions.
1) Can I install apps and save or download directly into my sd card without rooting my phone?
2) If I root my phone nd don't change the OS, would I still be able to update my phone according to Samsung OS updates?
Any help is appreciated. I'm having a tough time updating my apps as it says that I dont have enough memory. I am a noob. HELP PLEASE!!
For any big games. Use foldermount. Search on Google play

isn't root necessary?
Isn't a rooted phone the prerequisite to install folder mount? Google play listing says it needs root.

Wait.
Did you swap your internal SD with your external SD???
If so, and if you have formatted it, most likely it's a hard brick!
But I'm not sure, because I don't fully understand what you say!

@MatsPunt is correct.
You have killed your phone. Sony cannot repair it but if it's under warranty they will replace it with a new one.
I have posted many times about this vold.fstab swap trick hard-bricking these phones on this forum.
if using flashtool it also cannot helping

Superboot also didn't work for me.
Custom recovery like cwm and then flashing supersu is better in my opinion.

Firstly great choice leaving that other OS behind that's the best decision you have made.
Secondly the moto g is another great decision as its an amazing phone..
Yes root it, install xposed framework and gravitybox and customize your heart out.
I followed the guide over at modaco forums to root mine:
http://www.modaco.com/forum/751-motorola-moto-g/
There are two methods to root either work fine.

Ok I think the phone is fine, in apps I now have SuperSU.
Ok I now get a warning when I start the phone, so bootloader is unlocked, and I have superSU installed in apps, whats the next step, sorry for the newbie questions.

IMHO, you should use your phone without making those hacks for a while. You need root if you want to change something really specific on your phone or want to run some really specific apps. The vast majority of people doesn't need any of those.
That said, since you already rooted your phone, you might want to try using Xposed Framework (with gravitybox), Greenify and Titanium Backup. Search for those to see if that is something you might think is useful.

Ok just in case I mess something up along the way how do I do a factory reset?
I would read on xda a good bit before attempting to do anything as it's not for the faint hearted but as soon as you have enough knowledge you'll be fine.
I'm the sort of person who likes to root but even I haven't gotten around to unlocking the bootloader on the Moto G yet and I have it a month now, I only use it as a second phone after my HTC One, plus I only use a tablet and not a PC /Laptop so you can't do anything like this on a tablet which frankly I find bizzare given more people use tablets now then desktop computers and laptops but anyway read, read and read more and you'll be fine
