Hello i recently bought a motorola defy mini 600mhz 512mb ram 150mb internal storage and a 16gb sd card.
I have a couple of apps and the internal storage is already full, this is my first android phone and i have heard of rooting but it hasnt been discovered for my phone.
Is it possible to set the sd card memory to be seen as internal memory?
And is it possible to install a new android version?
Thank you

What can we defy mini users do?
Only wait for the root method to be discovered?
Sent from my XT320 using XDA
i think so
Setting sd as internel memory is commonly referred to as "partitioning", where a part of the sd is used as internel mem...
However, for that, you require root access, and a kernel that supports init.d scripts...

How can i know when rooting becomes availible for the defy mini?
Sent from my XT320 using XDA
That is a difficult question to answer...
Does your device have a forum on xda? (Check in the legacy and low activity sub-forum)
If it has, things get a little easier since people can then come together and experiment with different methods...
I'm guessing it does not, so the next thing left is trial and error...
If you are willing to risk your warranty and a possible bricked device, you can try a few of the popular gb methods (I'm assuming your phone is on gb), like gingerbreak, superoneclick, or unviersal root tool etc...
HOWEVER, do this at your own risk, as you cannot hold anyone else responsible for any damages...
Also, from what I've heard, motorola phones usually have a locked bootloader...and unfortunately, I have no experience with such devices (as mine does not have a locked bootloader)...messing around with the bootloaders increases chances of bricking...
Sent from my GT S5670 using xda free, (coz the premium keeps force closing :banghead: )
I doubt if SuperOneClick does the job. Rooting your phone is easy as 123 with that tool, but on some phones it turns out to nothing. I guess they already tried it.
It didn't work on my poor Mini...
It would be the best if you wait for an official method.
Sent from my GT-S5570 using XDA
Yeah i have already used it but it didnt work.
I hope the official method comes out soon because its quite long since the release of the phone.
Sent from my XT320 using XDA
Official method?
A phone gets root as people try to root it...there's nothing that the manufacturer does!
Its all trial and error...or some people study the source and find out ways to root!
Sent from my GT S5670 using xda free, (coz the premium keeps force closing :banghead: )
Oh well by official method i was refering to a real coder or developer would find a way to root it.

By the way, you might want to read this thread.

I will try that method out and if it works or not I will report back.

So.. did someone managed to finally root the Defy Mini? How can a phone this cheap be so hard to root?
The processor in this phone can run from 600 to 800Mhz (as Qualcomm says), but it is blocked to 600 on the official room. This cpu should run fine at 900-1000Mhz. Also we would get even better performance if we manage to put a stock android on it and get rid of Motorola bloatware.
Din pacate inca nimica.
Unfortunatly nothing yet.
hey i dont know whether this works or not but i found a flashable zip to root....
www . mediafire . com/?6a863tfqb9pc2d9(note der r some space in links bcoz my links are not visible without space...so remove spaces in link and go to link)

For people who doesnt own a computer to root I know it's easy with the one click root... but its impossible to root without a computer :/ .
The mytouch 4g is the only phone I know of that can be rooted without a PC. And no root means no custom ROMs.

It's illegal to make rooting illegal.
There was a ruling on that late last year or earlier this year.
It is completely legal to modify your phone software but you run the risk of voiding the warranty.
It's not "illegal" in the "legal" sense - it's a violation of Google's rules to have an app that can root your phone on the market.

Visionary was used for devices with HTC's nand lock on devices with the second gen snapdragons like the MT4G, G2, and DHD (not so sure about any other devices).
The Nook Color had something similar. It's bootloader was built to load a rom off of the SD card if one would exist. So you could load Clockwork Mod and root without a PC (less downloading and setting up the microSD cards).
You'd waste less time focusing finding a PC to let you root the phone then trying to find a PC-Less-Root-Method since I don't think any exist.
I am planning on rooting my GFs Huawei Ascend with this guide:
http://androidforums.com/ascend-all...-step-rooting-instructions-huawei-ascend.html
Now I already have a rooted Evo 4G and I know with that there are risks of bricking. Are there any risks of bricking by doing the steps in that guide? (Cricket version) I plan to freeze all the apps they recommended as well. Or is there any better way to root this?
Use Gingerbreak.apk to root it.
Is there any link for it on XDA? Also why would I use that? Please explain

there is hardly a chance of bricking your phone by rooting. and i think z4root is the way to go (its easy to use, gets you rooted in under a minute)
What about superoneclick? I was reading it in the thread. It enables third party apps too. I haven't read about any deleted SD cards with z4 though. But I have with soc and Gingerbreak

well all rooting methods do the same thing: they get you rooted. its just that some are easier to do than the others and some work on certain android versions. i recommended z4root because all you have to do is open the app and hit permanent root. for superoneclick, you need to connect your phone to the computer, enable usb debugging, etc (its not much of a hassle, but why not just root on your phone?)
and heres the link for gingerbreak:

Yea and her phone has that option to do so. I guess I will just use Z4 and freeze the apps I can that are safe, and then maybe put a ROM on it, probably not though. Also, is there any chance of data on phone (SDCARD / Contacts) being deleted? I saw in the GB thread or maybe SOC that SD CARD can sometimes get formatted.

Don't say z4root won't work, it never works unless you're on eclair. I'm saying you can't make a post simply stating something doesn't install on this forum, you gotta at least say "when I try to install it says 'application not installed'" or the like.
Like I said before, you shouldn't expect it to work anyways, so why make a post saying it won't work? Don't tell me how was I supposed to know that, because googling z4root will yield you some results from 2 or 3 years ago.
I also suggested you try unlock root and superoneclick, because the poster before you said to try superoneclick as well and my translation of your post was that you chose to ignore that suggestion.

Hey guys,
since more than a month i am using the xperia active from Sony Ericsson and i ve still guarantee on it.
It s an awesome smartphone, but sometimes the RAM is overloaded and it starts to lag.
Then the battery works for just a day, because of the background-apps, then i ve to charge it again... really annoying
Thats why i want to root my smartphone. Actually i ve ICS(4.0.4) on it (before it was 2.3 or sth.) and i would like to keep it, but on it i want superuser rights. Therefore i found "zergrush" from doomlord, but in other threads i just read thats for Android 2.2/2.3 ...
Is it possible to root my phone without loosing my guarantee (to make root "nearly" unseen after unroot, in case of warranty) on that device?
(sorry for my bad english, i hope you understood my situation and give me some answers )
greetings Red
You can try rooting using Doomlords method for ICS
Flash a stock kernel of 4.0.3
Root it using Doomlords kit
PS its a batch file
Flash back 4.0.4 kernel
Done !!!

For sure root it´s the best option for anyone that like to customize the system.
You should try superoneclick its a program which basically roots your your phone for you, gives you superuser and there shouldn't be drastic changes to your OS either
google it and download then go to youtube and follow a tutorial such as youtubeDOTcom/watch?v=lD4_wAj1WIY (sorry cant post links yet)
As for warranties I'm not sure but this is the safest and easiest method I'm aware of
but you should probably make sure it works on your phone and make a backup before you try it

A step by step guide will be unlikely. Making a rom comes from experience and knowledge. It will take alot of work to get that done on your aunts phone. Honestly i don't think its worth it, there is so much involved in trying to develop a rom for a phone. I would just experiment with the phone, do some theming and become use to how the phone works and functions, remember...its all experience

what are the downfalls/cons of rooting this?(im the type of person who likes to know what the outcome can become)
Advantages
1)You can install a custom ROM
2) You can upgrade or downgrade your phone
3)You can link apps to SD or make a part of your SD card internal memory
4)Performance will be better than stock ROM
Disadvantages
1)You can Soft brick your phone
But you can also unbrick by some methods (This will happen if you don't follow instructions carefully )
2) You can hard brick your phone
(You will have to buy another phone or replace your motherboard)
3)You void your warranty by rooting.
