non pocket grabbing case? - Samsung Infuse 4G

going to get this phone in a few days (infuse FTW) lol
anyways looking for a case to prevent damage in case of drops, dont care about screen scratch protecting.
basically i dont want it to grip my pocket (super easy to slide in and out)
and as small as possible
thanks

Try one of platinums cases
Android kicks apples ass.. Infused 2.1.0

& like where i could buy it

Best Buy I believe.
Think there's even another thread reviewing it.

Get a tpu case. Definitely non pocket grabbing. Harder than silicone and softer than plastic. extremely flexible. Had it on mine for about 2 months. Dropped my phone from 5 feet and it was fine. You can get them from amazon. About 9 bucks.

I have the silicrylic case from incipio and it's awesome.

I switched from the big brick pop casemate to a TPU case so much thinner and I'm sure its still protective. I rarely drop my phones.

I have an extra brand new incipio sylcrillic case that is on sale in the marketplace if you want it. PM me =P

I have a Ballistic HC. I use it in two modes. If I want to use the belt holster, I leave the outer shock membrane on the phone. It makes it fit into the holster better, makes the phone grippier in your hand, and adds an extra impact-absorbing layer.
When I want to pocket the phone, I ditch the outer rubber layer, and the phone becomes both smaller and less grippy, so that it slides pretty easily in and out of a pocket. The outer layer is plastic with a little shock give and finger grip.
I'll note that I long ago DITCHED the absolutely HORRIBLE, and embarrassing (for Ballistic) screen protector ( you just rip it out along with the loop of adhesive water seal junk) and have replaced it with a "no bubble" silk-top screen protector from the AT&T store. Very nice. A little less water resistant, but, it's worth it.

+1 for the body glove case. It's cheap, available on amazon, and it works. The only problem is the volume keys are exposed but I don't plan on being violent with my phone so that isn't a big deal IMO

Another +1 for the Body Glove here.
I accidentally left my phone on top of my car once, and didn't realize it till a few seconds later while driving about 30 down the road. Got out and found the phone in the middle of the street, still in the body glove, not a scratch on it.

The Incipio Silicrylic Case is what I use. I'm able to slide my phone in and out of my pocket with ease each and every time. Thinnest Case I've seen as well.

Body Glove case works very well for me. Its a harder plastic, so it doesn't stick to things. The size of the phone is what hinders the removal from my pocket. Plus I have big hands. You know what they say about that.

id say get a ballistic case for it if you dont put it all together and stop after the hard case its not bad getting it out of a pocket and its totally covered

If you're asking about a case that makes it so that the camera and phone are the "same" thickness (so that it lays flat instead of an angle) there are plenty of cases that do that. Notably, the Case Mate Tough and Speck Candyshell ( I own both).
If you're asking for like a plastic cover over it, you fail for wanting to cripple the amazing camera (for a phone).

Agreed, the Commuter case is great. I've only had mine since around Mother's Day but it definitely is sharp and sturdy without being bulky. (Apparently not all Otter Commuters are this good; bought one for my mom's Captivate at the same time, and the design feels flimsier. But the one for the Inspire rocks.)
Definitely feel better about sliding my phone in and out of my pocket now; no longer catches on the edge of my pocket when I do it fast, etc.
Started with a Body Glove case, not as bulky as Speck Candy shell, but the cut-out was a rectangle for all three rear-facing components (flash, lens & speaker). Lens would still stick out a couple milimeters.
Speck Candy is a big improvement, back is flush with the lens, I have no hesitation putting phone done on a table. Cutout around lens is tight, flash is wide enough for the small hole next to it (rear microphone for videos?), and the speaker opening is just right. Didn't take long to get used to the thickness of the case.
+2 On Speck Candyshell. (white one is super nice)...

I've got the white speck candyshell also, my previous case was the casemate tough and it was great but I wanted a little more bling with the colors. Both cases protect the camera very well a whole lot better than the body glove case. The one gripe I do have with the speck case is the freaking home button is a pain to press.

I use the big bulky Seidio case. The triple case in one thing, and I love it. Yeah, a littele big, but it fully protects everything on my phone including the camera, no built-in screen protector to screw with the one I had installed, and its nice to be able to clip it to my hip on the go.
Bit big, not too cheap, but I work in an area that has a high-risk to have my phone dropped, banged into things, or even punted across the room by mistake. XD
Otterbox all the way. I have both the Commuter and Defender.
The Defender case is a thick and bulky case but it was a screen that protects the camera lens and screen "i removed the screen protector to use a zagg invisible shield". My Inpsire got ran over by a car 2 weeks ago while in the defender case and there is not a blemish on it. It turns the phone into a mini tank. I use this case when i go to the gym or out anywhere that i might really hurt the phone.
The Commuter case is very light weight and thin compared to the defender but still very strong. It makes the back of the phone nice a level, right around the camera it pops out a lil to keep it from rubbing when it is laying down. This is my everyday case.
IMO, you can not go wrong with either of these cases and the both go for 30- 40 dollars on amazon. If you want a light weight case go for the Commuter if you want something that will really protect the phone from anything "like getting run over by a car" get the Defender series. Remember the Desire HD is the same phone sure use it when you are searching. I hope this helps you pick a case.
otter
have to agree with the otterbox commuter... protects the camera fairly well... raises the back of the phone up to camera level so your lense wont touch anything
Spec case. It's awsome

Going to agree on the Speck cases. GF has the purple one and my only real gripe is that the plastic lip between the bottom of the screen and charging/audio ports feel like they it won't stand up to normal wear and tear or very long.
Case-mate barely there does the trick.
+1 for the cas-mate barely there! I own all 4 colours! I've got the amzer, the ringke and some TPU one from worst-buy and I always go back to the the case-mate.

Honest opinions on the 6 cases I've owned.

Being the case junkie that I am, I've experienced quite a few cases for my Inspire.
This is just to try to help anyone in deciding what case to get or not get. Also, if anyone is interested I'm selling some of these that I've used only for a day or so, I'll explain later in this post. These are ranked from my least favorite to most favorite. So, lets begin.
6. Speck Candyshell- Although many people are big fans of Speck, I just felt like they produced an clunky, ugly case for the phone. It basically added a second bezel to the Inspire and I really didn't like the look or feel. Although the protection is decent, it is way over priced and the aesthetics just don't do it for me. I actually returned this to the AT&T store the same day I bought it.
5. Seidio Surface II- Probably the most annoying case I've owned. Once I put it on, it took me over two hours to learn the 'trick' to getting it off. Although I like the soft touch finish and the protection is good for a sleek case, the hassle of taking it off and the ugly back camera cutout annoy me.
4. Otterbox Defender- Alas, the Defender. While I can say I felt like my phone was virtually indestructible with this case on, it was just a bit too much. I couldn't fit the phone in my jeans pocket and it would get covered with lint due to the rubber outer case. The screen protector scratched easily and felt strange as well. The protection though is a major selling point and probably a good investment for someone without an insurance policy. Protection good, making my phone a rubbery brick, not so good.
3. Otterbox Commuter- While it is much slimmer than the Defender, the Commuter offers decent protection with a few flaws. I really am not of fan of the plastic backing of the case, it's slippery and feels very fragile to me. Also, the port cover for the usb and headphone jack is annoying to maneuver in place and often times falls out. The case is decent protection and slim, but there are those couple things that bring it down.
2. Trident Aegis- It's protection + good looks + a decent price. The Aegis offers Defender-like protection in a variety of colors in a modern, attractive design. There is basically nothing wrong with this case besides the impossible-to-avoid-bulk and the semi-challenging installation.
1. My favorite case I've used to date: Case-Mate Tough. So far, this is perfection for me. It's sleek, it's protective, it has got a nice grip finish, it's everything without the trade-offs. You can bet that my phone rests in my Tough as I type this. It's the best of every world and it's even a value! I got mine for $16 shipped on eBay.
So, if you're in the market for a case and you stumble upon these, maybe you'll take my opinions into account, or maybe you wont. Thanks for reading.
Thanks for the reviews. I am using the seidio convert and like the defender, it is a bit much. I may have to try the case mate tough.
Again, thanks for the time to review these and the money spent lol.

Haha, I am also an accessory whore, I have about 20 cases for my iPod touch 4th gen(Not that I use it all) and Currently only own about 5 cases for my Inspire and about 20 micro usb cables...
I was looking into getting the otterbox defender, considering I have their case on every device I own besides my Inspire, but your review tempted me to not get it...
Thanks for doing the work for me

only one i've tried was the otterbox commuter and I really like it... but you're right.. the usb cover can be annoying at times
thanks for the reviews though... i might try out the case mate tough soon
I have the s line case from eBay. It is very small which means it prolly isn't the greatest protection but it fits into the pocket perfectly and isn't super gelly and stretchy.
Best part is its 5 dollars and offers nice grippy sides.
Seidio Surface II it is useless when trying to use an screen protector. I have try both clear coat and skinomi and it pulls both from the edges. DO NOT BUY !! I will give a shot to one of the Otterbox.
+1 for the Case Mate Tough Case, have one on my Nexus One and my Inspire, haven't looked back

+1 for the Otterbox commuter. I couldn't agree more with your review on that. I'm still a huge fan of it though....even aside from the annoying rubber piece near the bottom of the device lol.
I have the HTC Inspire Casemate Tough case, and it is AWESOME! It's a bit of a ***** to get the battery out when you have those times, but other than that, I love the dual-layer design, and awesome grip that it provides. Definitely better than the Body Glove case I bought for my Captivate.
I have been using the Casemate tough since I got my phone in the middle of May. I must say that I do like the way it feels. I don't think it is too bulky. Feels just right. Only thing I do not like about the case is the bottom rubber piece on the front side of the phone. It is flimsy and moves!
I just got the Otterbox Commuter and I like how it looks, but the back is too slick for me as well. I like how the bottom piece of the rubber is stopped in place by the plastic hard shell.
To give an idea of what I mean to some, I place my phone in my left pants pocket. Top pointing down. When I go to grab my phone, I tend to pull it by the bottom piece of the case like I used to do with my iPhone. Granted I have been getting accustomed to not doing that with the inspire due to its bigger shape, it is still a little annoying that the little rubber piece on the casemate is like that.
Does anyone have a suggestion on a similiar case?

So if removal was not a factor, would the Seidio be higher in your ratings? Also, do either the Seidio or CM Tough hang up like a silicone cover when you remove them from your pocket?

Cannot agree more! I too have been using this since I got the phone in mid-May and have been liking it so far. The other thing that I do not like is the inside rubbery protection tends to catch a lot of lint when put in the pockets. Other than it, the case is solid with a good look and feel.
i'm waiting on my commuter
i'll post some comments
Have any of you tried the Casemate Pop?
I have two Otterbox defenders and you are right about the lint problem, it drives me nuts but I have to admit that I don't mind the bulk. I came from a 5 year old WM smartphone that was a brick without a case, haha. So I don't mind a bulky phone.
The only reason I got the defender was that it has the plastic hinges for snapping it into adapters, so you can purchase mounts for it and put it in your car with a satisfying "click". That and I decided to opt out of insurance, since adding 6$ a month and a 150$ deductible seemed silly to me.
The phone is extremely slippery without any cover on it and the bottom half of the phone (where the antenna is) will crack or dent with the slightest impact because it is hollow.
The next thing I am going to build is a custom dock for the car, I just wish I didn't have to dismantle the entire dash to add an FM modulator to the antenna line . I have a bad habit of breaking plastic fasteners and rivets.
Thanks for the reviews, ill be avoiding the defender cases because of their size.

Just ordered a Defender, should be here in a day or so. Bulk doesn't bother me, I carried my last phone with a projector attached to it. I'm a mechanic and really want the best protection I can get. Know what you mean about those plastic clips.
For an FM modulator, I like the Motorola T505. It clips to your visor and you can use it to stream music and as a speakerphone. It just won't charge or hold your phone. Upload some pics when you get your dock finished though.
If the Sedio wasn't so difficult to remove it would be higher up, although it still scratches easily and allows a lot of dust to build up under the case. I've been soley using the tough since this post and my inspire has taken some nasty spills with no harm done at all. Also, I just took off my screen protector last week and have found using the phone without one is so much better. Anyone else agree?

Case mate barely there for me. I've always liked the minimal amount of casing and have been lucky enough so far to never need anything more. Anything bigger than this case seems too bulky for me. It's a quality case and has a nice matte feel to it.

[Q] Innocase Active x vs. Otterbox Commuter

They both seem good but which one provides the best protection for the Epic?
I believe the Otterbox does. But its way too thick and ugly. Id stick with the Active X case just because it already provides good protection, in a slimmer more stylish way.
I've seen several people says the Otterbox clips scratch the keyboard and need to be broken off. That's why the seideo cases have their clips at the top and bottom rather than the sides.
I have the Otterbox Commuter and it's pretty good.
It does add a little bit of bulk to the phone, but it is well protected.
And it certainly does NOT clip the slide-out keyboard or anything like that...everything on it fits like a glove. The top half (bezel) has one side that is chamfered to avoid any possible contact when sliding out the keyboard. Maybe someone else put that bezel on backwards, or they revised the Otterbox for the Epic.
Overall, I'm happy with it...and it came with a good screen protector as well.
My colleagues use the Innocase and it's a great product. It has saved their phones from breaking from being dropped (and in one case thrown) around and landing on marble floors.
I am not sure how great it is for repelling water. I'm assuming that the Otterbox would be better for that.

I just ordered a Seido case since the cheap one i bought at a mall kiosk clips' broke on the front protector. How bad are teh scratches?
I have the active X case the case clips for teh back of the phone clip onto the metallic looking part of the phone so I don't see where scratches would occur. The clips for the face protector is at the extreme top and bottom of the phone as well so I don't see any scratches on my phone.
I think Otterbox is the best protection but they seem too bulky and ugly to me.
Ugly wtf its a case....... and its not bulky its just a little husky
Sent From My Cyan Samurai
love my seido case. adds just the right amount of bulk to the phone.
I also like the belt holster for the Active X case. I usually carry my phone there rather than in my pocket. No way the Otterbox would fit comfortably in my pocket.
I have the Otterbox and my wife has the Innocase.
The Otterbox has given me no trouble while my wife's Innocase has broken 2 clips without having ever pulled it off.
Plus the Otterbox comes with a screen protector.
again. ugly wtf?
I have the otterbox and it doesn't scratch up keyboard. And it protects well from drops. And if its bulky or "husky" that just makes it a tight fit into your pocket and les likely to drop I with good grip. And on the terms of protecting your phone I suggest getting the flygrip as well if you text one handed often

Otterbox Defender vs Trident Kraken II [10/19 update]

For anyone who is up in the air between the top 2 rugged cases, the Kraken II is made much better for the Charge.
The belt clip on the holster for my Defender snapped the other day when it caught on the armrest of my chair so I went ahead and ordered a red Kraken II off of ebay since I had wanted to give one a try anyways. Got it today and everything about it is better. The holster holds the phone much more securely, the silicone is underneath the plastic so no more will it start coming off all the time like the Defender's did, and you can get it in colors . The level of dust protection is also a lot better thanks to mesh screens over the speaker and earpiece.
Hope this helps anyone deciding
Update 10/19!!!!
Forget everything I said above. I now hate Trident. Their plastic feels great and seems nice at first but is insanely cheap! A small piece next to the charger port broke off last night and this morning before I left for work I went to clip it onto my belt and when I went to squeeze the clip a little it snapped. Absolute junk. Thinking of just going to the standard Verizon case/holster combo and keeping it clipped inside my pocket at this point.
For what would you need such a case on this phone? I have dropped mine (naked) on concrete repeatedly with no harm (to the screen/internals).
I actually like the Defender better than the Kraken. I think it just looks better, sleek, and more stylish. The kraken does have color, but it looks cheap in my opinion. My family has the Defender case on all of our Droid Charge(s). No issues with them whatsoever. I just like having all around protection for my phone, although I have never dropped it (yet), I know it'll stay safe when I do.
I recently bought a Otterbox Defender Case. It definitley makes the phone much more bulky but I gues thats price for protection. I honestly am looking for reasons to take it off and put my old case back on but I fear that once I do I will drop my phone and it will shatter into a million pieces....hahaha. I n all honesty, it feels solid and indestructible now, my only complaint is its bulk and how lint kinda sticks to the rubber...I give it a 10/10 for purpose alone and a 7,8/10 in aestethics...

Mine dropped from ceiling level of a Lowe's retail building while up on power equipment once. Try that without one of these cases.
Also I would like to say that the way the belt holster is made on the Kraken saved my butt. I almost snapped it the first day I had it (in the exact same way I did the Defender holster) but the Kraken's holster is made with a detachable clip so instead of breaking it flew into 3 pieces that snapped right back together.

All OtterBox cases do the lint thing & it drives me nuts. The Incipio does the same thing.
I finally settled on the BodyGlove as it gives an awesome grip on the phone & does not attract link AT ALL.

updated first post. Forget everything, Trident is junk
Have you looked at the Otterbox Commuter for the charge?
Not as "industrial-strength" as the Defender, but extremely well made and it does a great job of protecting the phone while still leaving all buttons and slots/openings usab;e and/or easily accessible....
The holster is kinda important to me. Going to try the standard Verizon case/holster combo.
I am using the Verizon holster with a Casemate case. Works very well. Only thing I don't like about the holster is that the clip sticks up kind of high and will dig into your belly in certain positions. Might be a belly issue though LOL
I have Trident Kraken II case and I broke holster clip. Emailed Trident and they replaced clip within a couple days via mail.....good customer service.
Not sure which Otterbox case I have but this damn thing is tough as nails. I'm in the Army and this thing has taken a beating. I've dropped it out of a vehicle going 35 and nothing happened to it. Dropped it from about 10 feet up as well and nothing. I'll post pics as soon as I can so you guys know which one it is. I just know it's 3 pieces (2 plastic then the gummy like cover).

I've not had any issues with the Trident case, itself, but I did have an issue with the belt clip breaking clear apart when I tried to take it off. Now I need to see if they offer any sort of warranty ala Otterbox...

Trident Kraken

I'm looking for a replacement for my Otterbox Defender, I'm not very happy with it at all. The outer silicone layer is falling off my case because its becoming too loose, and the hard inner part is cracked to hell and back. And I've only had the case since September and hasn't had any major falls!
So I'm looking into the Kraken case, and from what the website says, it has a built-in screen protector, but on the actual page where you buy it is a self-applicable screen protector. So I was just looking for some feedback and actual answers? Which is it? And is the case any good?
Or are there other suggestions for a rugged case?
I myself returned it. The case is very heavy, the plastic feels cheap, and its not smooth so you feel all these bumps etc in your hand. It doesnt lock into the belt clip easy enough to actually be useable. I have a belt on my pants and the thing was so heavy that it pulled my pants down a good 2 inches. The screen protector is also one you have to put on it there is no built in one. I would email otterbox, they have replaced my stuff several times, all they did was ask me for a about date i bought it, and asked me for a picture of the damaged case all i had to do was write the date on piece of paper and include it in the picture and they sent me new one within like maybe a week to two weeks at no cost.
I would really recommend the Ballistic SG. it's under 19$, but is superb. The best part is the buttons remain perfectly usable.
Do pair it with a wet application screen protector, but the design should generally prevent any part of the screen impacting any surface.

I'll 2nd the Ballistic SG. Had it since June and still love it. The only car dock I liked was the ibolt, but the phone wouldn't fit with the case on, so I had to mod the ibolt with a Dremel to make it fit. This case would be perfect if it had a compatible car and desk dock accessory option.
i wouldnt really say ballastic is what this person is looking for to me its like mid range protection id assume they ment same level as otterbox and the ballastic gels lip is not anywheres as big as the one on the otterbox so , ans skin to me is kinda thin id just email otterbox ask for replacement.
I've gone through two replacements for my Defender since I first posted. Sure Otterbox has had no problem sending them to me free of charge. But this is ridiculous. Its just not sturdy enough. It feels like cheap plastic.
I've also looked into the Ballistic cases. But the one I really want they don't make for my phone. Sad day.
i honestly cant find anything i like for one x i wish i didnt get this thing im trying to trade it out. but im using generic ballastics case. it does job not as cheapy feeling but the rubber does leave some like smudges on back of my phone if u find anything let me know.

Indeed. These things are great. They've gone up in price a bit, but are still really worth it. The rubber part never stretches out because of the plastic and ballistic that goes around it sort of keeps it nice and tight on your phone. Definitely worth getting.
