Protect the camera as in?
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA Premium App

If you're asking about a case that makes it so that the camera and phone are the "same" thickness (so that it lays flat instead of an angle) there are plenty of cases that do that. Notably, the Case Mate Tough and Speck Candyshell ( I own both).
If you're asking for like a plastic cover over it, you fail for wanting to cripple the amazing camera (for a phone).

The only ones I see that do is the amzer jelly and barely there

Agreed, the Commuter case is great. I've only had mine since around Mother's Day but it definitely is sharp and sturdy without being bulky. (Apparently not all Otter Commuters are this good; bought one for my mom's Captivate at the same time, and the design feels flimsier. But the one for the Inspire rocks.)
Definitely feel better about sliding my phone in and out of my pocket now; no longer catches on the edge of my pocket when I do it fast, etc.

Started with a Body Glove case, not as bulky as Speck Candy shell, but the cut-out was a rectangle for all three rear-facing components (flash, lens & speaker). Lens would still stick out a couple milimeters.
Speck Candy is a big improvement, back is flush with the lens, I have no hesitation putting phone done on a table. Cutout around lens is tight, flash is wide enough for the small hole next to it (rear microphone for videos?), and the speaker opening is just right. Didn't take long to get used to the thickness of the case.

+2 On Speck Candyshell. (white one is super nice)...

I've got the white speck candyshell also, my previous case was the casemate tough and it was great but I wanted a little more bling with the colors. Both cases protect the camera very well a whole lot better than the body glove case. The one gripe I do have with the speck case is the freaking home button is a pain to press.

I use the big bulky Seidio case. The triple case in one thing, and I love it. Yeah, a littele big, but it fully protects everything on my phone including the camera, no built-in screen protector to screw with the one I had installed, and its nice to be able to clip it to my hip on the go.
Bit big, not too cheap, but I work in an area that has a high-risk to have my phone dropped, banged into things, or even punted across the room by mistake. XD

Otterbox all the way. I have both the Commuter and Defender.
The Defender case is a thick and bulky case but it was a screen that protects the camera lens and screen "i removed the screen protector to use a zagg invisible shield". My Inpsire got ran over by a car 2 weeks ago while in the defender case and there is not a blemish on it. It turns the phone into a mini tank. I use this case when i go to the gym or out anywhere that i might really hurt the phone.
The Commuter case is very light weight and thin compared to the defender but still very strong. It makes the back of the phone nice a level, right around the camera it pops out a lil to keep it from rubbing when it is laying down. This is my everyday case.
IMO, you can not go wrong with either of these cases and the both go for 30- 40 dollars on amazon. If you want a light weight case go for the Commuter if you want something that will really protect the phone from anything "like getting run over by a car" get the Defender series. Remember the Desire HD is the same phone sure use it when you are searching. I hope this helps you pick a case.

otter
have to agree with the otterbox commuter... protects the camera fairly well... raises the back of the phone up to camera level so your lense wont touch anything

Spec case. It's awsome
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA Premium App

Going to agree on the Speck cases. GF has the purple one and my only real gripe is that the plastic lip between the bottom of the screen and charging/audio ports feel like they it won't stand up to normal wear and tear or very long.

Case-mate barely there does the trick.

+1 for the cas-mate barely there! I own all 4 colours! I've got the amzer, the ringke and some TPU one from worst-buy and I always go back to the the case-mate.

gps good?
i wanna get the white one but for $20 anyone know a cheaper place that has them?
plus they need more colors like dark blue

I think GPS lock has more to do with radio/rom combo. I'm running MIUI 1.5.27 and I get a lock in seconds. I've had no GPS issues whatsoever with these cases.

Just recently got the otterbox phone case for desire hd since they don't have one for inspire, its not as bulky and protective looking as the ones for iPhones and hate how the little rubber flap that covers the earpeice plugin and charger is loose.
Anyone have a good recommendation for a cover? I've already seen a shattered inspire screen and it scares me buddy told me he dropped it from like knee length to ground

I've got the Otterbox Commuter on mine and love it; if you want something with more protection, get the Otterbox Defender. And as far as the protective flap, I just sliced it off with a razor blade; just do it while the case is on and use the plastic as a guide.
Don't think they offer anything but the commuter case which is also what I have

I just bought a Speck case (at -- cough, cough, choke -- full retail at the AT&T store) but it is great! It feels soft enough to hold onto without it oozing out of my hand, but is actually pretty tough.
Like almost every case, it takes away from the sleekness of the naked phone but not so much so I feel I'm holding a brick. It also fits absolutely perfectly in every respect. I especially like the barely discernible lip all the way around the screen which should help protect the screen in case of a face-down fall.

The Desire HD Defender Case will work for the Inspire 4G despite what they say. You just have to modify/remove the clear plastic flash covering for the 2nd microphone. I have one for my Inspire and fits like a glove.
The eBay "wave" case. $4 shipped. Takes awhile to get it, its coming from China, but worth the wait.
I returned a $30 body glove and a seido (sp?, from best buy). This one was better. Covers the camera area, fits snug, and has that rough texture that makes it easy to get a good grip, down the sides where your palm and fingers contact the phone when holding it.
Seriously. Best four bucks I've ever spent.
There's a separate thread here talking about this case, don't have the link handy.

I have the Best Buy Platinum case which is nothing more than a rebranded Seido Innocase II. I LOVE IT! Comes with a belt clip as well. The best part is it makes the whole phone feel sturdier (if that's possible). Slips in and out of pocket easy as well. The lip on the front makes it possible to pull phone out of pocket (unless tight jeans) without accidentally answering or hanging up on the call. The back lines up with the outer most part of the camera lens, thus the phone is all one thickness. I think this makes it easier to hold. Just slap a full face screen protector on the front before putting on the case and you're good to go.

I'm using the Case-mate. Similar to otterbox with a inner rubber liner and outer hard shell. I like the texture of the hard outer shell as it makes it easier to grip phone but still slides into pocket.

Honest opinions on the 6 cases I've owned.

Being the case junkie that I am, I've experienced quite a few cases for my Inspire.
This is just to try to help anyone in deciding what case to get or not get. Also, if anyone is interested I'm selling some of these that I've used only for a day or so, I'll explain later in this post. These are ranked from my least favorite to most favorite. So, lets begin.
6. Speck Candyshell- Although many people are big fans of Speck, I just felt like they produced an clunky, ugly case for the phone. It basically added a second bezel to the Inspire and I really didn't like the look or feel. Although the protection is decent, it is way over priced and the aesthetics just don't do it for me. I actually returned this to the AT&T store the same day I bought it.
5. Seidio Surface II- Probably the most annoying case I've owned. Once I put it on, it took me over two hours to learn the 'trick' to getting it off. Although I like the soft touch finish and the protection is good for a sleek case, the hassle of taking it off and the ugly back camera cutout annoy me.
4. Otterbox Defender- Alas, the Defender. While I can say I felt like my phone was virtually indestructible with this case on, it was just a bit too much. I couldn't fit the phone in my jeans pocket and it would get covered with lint due to the rubber outer case. The screen protector scratched easily and felt strange as well. The protection though is a major selling point and probably a good investment for someone without an insurance policy. Protection good, making my phone a rubbery brick, not so good.
3. Otterbox Commuter- While it is much slimmer than the Defender, the Commuter offers decent protection with a few flaws. I really am not of fan of the plastic backing of the case, it's slippery and feels very fragile to me. Also, the port cover for the usb and headphone jack is annoying to maneuver in place and often times falls out. The case is decent protection and slim, but there are those couple things that bring it down.
2. Trident Aegis- It's protection + good looks + a decent price. The Aegis offers Defender-like protection in a variety of colors in a modern, attractive design. There is basically nothing wrong with this case besides the impossible-to-avoid-bulk and the semi-challenging installation.
1. My favorite case I've used to date: Case-Mate Tough. So far, this is perfection for me. It's sleek, it's protective, it has got a nice grip finish, it's everything without the trade-offs. You can bet that my phone rests in my Tough as I type this. It's the best of every world and it's even a value! I got mine for $16 shipped on eBay.
So, if you're in the market for a case and you stumble upon these, maybe you'll take my opinions into account, or maybe you wont. Thanks for reading.
Thanks for the reviews. I am using the seidio convert and like the defender, it is a bit much. I may have to try the case mate tough.
Again, thanks for the time to review these and the money spent lol.

Haha, I am also an accessory whore, I have about 20 cases for my iPod touch 4th gen(Not that I use it all) and Currently only own about 5 cases for my Inspire and about 20 micro usb cables...
I was looking into getting the otterbox defender, considering I have their case on every device I own besides my Inspire, but your review tempted me to not get it...
Thanks for doing the work for me
otter
only one i've tried was the otterbox commuter and I really like it... but you're right.. the usb cover can be annoying at times
thanks for the reviews though... i might try out the case mate tough soon
I have the s line case from eBay. It is very small which means it prolly isn't the greatest protection but it fits into the pocket perfectly and isn't super gelly and stretchy.
Best part is its 5 dollars and offers nice grippy sides.
Seidio Surface II it is useless when trying to use an screen protector. I have try both clear coat and skinomi and it pulls both from the edges. DO NOT BUY !! I will give a shot to one of the Otterbox.
+1 for the Case Mate Tough Case, have one on my Nexus One and my Inspire, haven't looked back

+1 for the Otterbox commuter. I couldn't agree more with your review on that. I'm still a huge fan of it though....even aside from the annoying rubber piece near the bottom of the device lol.
I have the HTC Inspire Casemate Tough case, and it is AWESOME! It's a bit of a ***** to get the battery out when you have those times, but other than that, I love the dual-layer design, and awesome grip that it provides. Definitely better than the Body Glove case I bought for my Captivate.
I have been using the Casemate tough since I got my phone in the middle of May. I must say that I do like the way it feels. I don't think it is too bulky. Feels just right. Only thing I do not like about the case is the bottom rubber piece on the front side of the phone. It is flimsy and moves!
I just got the Otterbox Commuter and I like how it looks, but the back is too slick for me as well. I like how the bottom piece of the rubber is stopped in place by the plastic hard shell.
To give an idea of what I mean to some, I place my phone in my left pants pocket. Top pointing down. When I go to grab my phone, I tend to pull it by the bottom piece of the case like I used to do with my iPhone. Granted I have been getting accustomed to not doing that with the inspire due to its bigger shape, it is still a little annoying that the little rubber piece on the casemate is like that.
Does anyone have a suggestion on a similiar case?

So if removal was not a factor, would the Seidio be higher in your ratings? Also, do either the Seidio or CM Tough hang up like a silicone cover when you remove them from your pocket?

I agree with the OP about the candyshell speck case. It's waaaay to bulky and almost doubles the size of the phone. At first I gungho over it but now I can't stand it lol. I wish phone manafactuers would make the body more tough because the look of this phone is soooo sexy

Cannot agree more! I too have been using this since I got the phone in mid-May and have been liking it so far. The other thing that I do not like is the inside rubbery protection tends to catch a lot of lint when put in the pockets. Other than it, the case is solid with a good look and feel.
i'm waiting on my commuter
i'll post some comments
Have any of you tried the Casemate Pop?
I have two Otterbox defenders and you are right about the lint problem, it drives me nuts but I have to admit that I don't mind the bulk. I came from a 5 year old WM smartphone that was a brick without a case, haha. So I don't mind a bulky phone.
The only reason I got the defender was that it has the plastic hinges for snapping it into adapters, so you can purchase mounts for it and put it in your car with a satisfying "click". That and I decided to opt out of insurance, since adding 6$ a month and a 150$ deductible seemed silly to me.
The phone is extremely slippery without any cover on it and the bottom half of the phone (where the antenna is) will crack or dent with the slightest impact because it is hollow.
The next thing I am going to build is a custom dock for the car, I just wish I didn't have to dismantle the entire dash to add an FM modulator to the antenna line . I have a bad habit of breaking plastic fasteners and rivets.
Thanks for the reviews, ill be avoiding the defender cases because of their size.

Just ordered a Defender, should be here in a day or so. Bulk doesn't bother me, I carried my last phone with a projector attached to it. I'm a mechanic and really want the best protection I can get. Know what you mean about those plastic clips.
For an FM modulator, I like the Motorola T505. It clips to your visor and you can use it to stream music and as a speakerphone. It just won't charge or hold your phone. Upload some pics when you get your dock finished though.
If the Sedio wasn't so difficult to remove it would be higher up, although it still scratches easily and allows a lot of dust to build up under the case. I've been soley using the tough since this post and my inspire has taken some nasty spills with no harm done at all. Also, I just took off my screen protector last week and have found using the phone without one is so much better. Anyone else agree?

Case mate barely there for me. I've always liked the minimal amount of casing and have been lucky enough so far to never need anything more. Anything bigger than this case seems too bulky for me. It's a quality case and has a nice matte feel to it.

I have an extra brand new incipio sylcrillic case that is on sale in the marketplace if you want it. PM me =P
I have a Ballistic HC. I use it in two modes. If I want to use the belt holster, I leave the outer shock membrane on the phone. It makes it fit into the holster better, makes the phone grippier in your hand, and adds an extra impact-absorbing layer.
When I want to pocket the phone, I ditch the outer rubber layer, and the phone becomes both smaller and less grippy, so that it slides pretty easily in and out of a pocket. The outer layer is plastic with a little shock give and finger grip.
I'll note that I long ago DITCHED the absolutely HORRIBLE, and embarrassing (for Ballistic) screen protector ( you just rip it out along with the loop of adhesive water seal junk) and have replaced it with a "no bubble" silk-top screen protector from the AT&T store. Very nice. A little less water resistant, but, it's worth it.
+1 for the body glove case. It's cheap, available on amazon, and it works. The only problem is the volume keys are exposed but I don't plan on being violent with my phone so that isn't a big deal IMO
Another +1 for the Body Glove here.
I accidentally left my phone on top of my car once, and didn't realize it till a few seconds later while driving about 30 down the road. Got out and found the phone in the middle of the street, still in the body glove, not a scratch on it.
The Incipio Silicrylic Case is what I use. I'm able to slide my phone in and out of my pocket with ease each and every time. Thinnest Case I've seen as well.
Body Glove case works very well for me. Its a harder plastic, so it doesn't stick to things. The size of the phone is what hinders the removal from my pocket. Plus I have big hands. You know what they say about that.

id say get a ballistic case for it if you dont put it all together and stop after the hard case its not bad getting it out of a pocket and its totally covered

Anybody else using one of the HTC blue or orange plastic cases?

One of the cases as shown here: www.theunwired.net/?item=photoview-hands-on-with-htc-s-design-cases-for-the-htc-one-x
Anybody else using one? I dropped by an AT&T store today and picked one up. First of all, $30 is utterly ridiculous for a thin, flimsy piece of plastic. It is indeed a perfect fit, and it adds almost no bulk. I have two concerns though:
1) It is so thin that it does not protrude past the camera bulge, so even with this case on, the camera bulge will be touching whatever surface the camera is lying on.
2) Other concern, also related to its thinness, is whether this thing provides any benefit whatsoever. It's so ridiculously thin that it just doesn't seem to offer any protection. I guess it protects the matte back surface of the phone itself from fingerprints/smudges/etc. But it would seem to provide little to zero impact protection.
On the whole, I'm not sure what I think about it. Looks decent, fits perfectly, but doesn't protect the camera and might not provide any protection whatsoever for anything because it's so thin. If it were $10 or $15, tha'd be one thing -- but for $30, I'm leaning towards thinking this thing isn't worth it.
It seems to be a good choice for those people that really hate cases because of the added bulk, but nevertheless need the mental satisfaction that they are at least doing something to protect the phone.
Other thoughts?
Edit: I will also add that, as compared to the naked phone, the case blocks access to the power button ever so slightly. Still pretty easy to push, though, so not a major negative.
IMO those cheap orange/blue cases are just for a splash of color. They add no additional protection to the phone, screen or camera lens.
I havent found which case Im going with, but it wont be one of those cheap thin neon ones.
It's basically a vanity cover LOL. I have one for two reasons only; to make it less slippery in the hand and to protect the back side from scratches.
I didn't like the case selection in the AT&T store at the time I picked up the phone so I went with the blue HTC thin case just to have something on there. The camera bulge not being protected is a concern, it would have been nice if they could have somehow addressed that with this thin case. The glass protecting the lens is recessed a little such that it will not contact flat surfaces when the phone is placed backside down but eventually I'm sure the plastic silver ring will show signs of wear (wouldn't be surprised if it's painted and the paint wears through).
I'm waiting to see what other cases Otterbox comes up with. I may go with a Defender series but would like to see it in other colors.
I doubt it'll protect the back from scratches. The bands will probably catch dirt between them and the body.
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
We have 2 threads in this forum with pics of the blue case. I have one and really like it. It doesn't offer much in the way of drop protection, but doesn't add any extra bulk to the phone either. As far as dust getting under the bands, I doubt that will be a problem. The case fits extremely tight.

Picked one up today. It's exactly what I was looking for. I think this will keep the corners from denting if dropped, and it will certainly protect the back from damage.
There's little-to-no shock absorption, but I think it will offer protection against minor drops, much like Incipio's famous feather.

Picked up the blue one today. Yea its hard to justify it.. I paid $20 for it since I'm on premier, but it's still too much. Really only worth $5... but you pay for the name and design/quality.
I do see use to it, however I might return it because sometimes I feel like I need stronger protection.
Pros:
The case is so thin that its negligible
Protects the corners and edges during a drop
Protects the back from being worn and losing the matte finish from your hands or sliding on a desk
Cons:
Doesnt protect screen from impact
Doesnt protect from getting scratched in a pocket
Expensive
As far as protecting the camera, it would take a fairly thick case to do that.

I picked up the orange one. I like the gray and orange contrast with a gray and orange wallpaper. It simpley for cosemetic looks than protection. I saw on AT&T website they have a red gel case I'm interested but might look on Amazon. I had the candy case they had but they so hard to snap on / off, I'm concerned I'll break the phone taking it off.
I have the orange, it's ok. It makes the back of the phone very slippery, it's hard to hold with hand.

What's a premier account. Will a fan discount get me the case for $20?
Go to the At&t store and get the Zagg for the whole phone. You can protect the back with that so you don't have the worry about the spaces in the case. Then get an egrips for the back and you have it covered for grip. The crystal clear egrip looks really good on the back.
Had to return it cause its so thin and delicate it started cracking.

Mine also cracked when I took it off to return the phone, despite the fact that I thought I was being super careful.

I'm using the blue one currently. I like how minimalistic it is. Even through Barely There cases was a bit bulky on the One X

Tired of Commuter, Any suggestions?

Ok so ive had the blue/black Otterbox commuter now for a few weeks and I did like it at first but now im just sick of it, makes the phone a little to thick for how often i use it and just has gotten on my nerves, anyone able to recommend something with about the same protection maybe a little bit more thin?
also, ill probably ship this one off to someone when i get a replacment
Felt the same way with my commuter. From what I've red its the thinnest one of that type of case. The tridents look cooler, but myself I just got an incipio feather shine and I love it. Provides more drop protection than you would think, but looks way cool
Same protection? Get the Incipio Silicrylic case, looks tons better than the Otter box.
If you want a sleeker case overall, get the Seidio Surface case, with kickstand.

yeah i been eyeballing the seido....hows the grip on it?, if the commuter had grip i could deal with the thickness
Pretty good, not a glossy finish and the kickstand doesn't add a weird bump like with the Seidio Active. Lmk if you want pics comparing the normal Surface with the Surface kickstand.

sure
Had a Best Buy gift card so I grabbed that platinum series case/holster combo and I like it. Pretty protective and slimmer than the Commuter for sure.
I used to use the Commuter on all my iPhones, but the one for the One X is just too hard to get on and off for me. I wanted a slimmer case that didn't leave the camera lens hanging out the back (and I didn't want to break the bank either). I found this one on eBay and it's fantastic. And only $7.95, too. The seller ships super fast, too (from California to Kentucky in 2 days).

Incipio NGP here. I like the softer feel and the decent protection around the edges. The included screen protector is rather lousy, but you can use the coupon to get XtremeGuard for next to nothing. You will have to cut it down a bit to work well with the ngp and not lift at the edges.
i havent gotten mine yet for the One X but i ordered the Barely There case by Case Logic, i had it for my Inspire 4g and another for my Galaxy S2 Skyrocket, cant wait to get mine for this phone, they are thing light and stay on, they arent going to protect from drops like the commuter but they will keep it from getting scratched to hell on the back.

Have you noticed the the silicone on the silicryilc to be loose at all? The top and and bottom worry me because they lack the plastic coverage.

Will not protect the lens cover at all. If you are worried about "scratching like hell" you might want something more substantial.
really cause the other two i have had were fine even the Inspire which had the lens that flared out like the HOX kinda sucks now ill look into another case maybe the incipio feather? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007ZT4UWI/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00 or this as from the pictures it looks like it helps with the lens.

I ordered both the feather and the ngp from Incipio. Sent the feather back to because the protection was too minimal. Love the ngp so far. Not too bulky not too flimsy. The provided screen protector sucks big time tho. Incipio has versions for both hox models make sure you get the right one. Order from Incipio direct, indirect same price

Graced with a sleek painted aluminum finish on a durable hard shell exterior and fitting both World and AT&T versions of the phone.....
I wonder how that works or fits?????

I am more worried about the side of the case being so flexible. Compared to my old HTC Sensation's otterbox case which was more rigid.
Apart from that, i like the case.
I dropped mine and cracked the screen, it was seriously the smallest drop ever for a phone and still broke. Most fragile phone I've ever had given how many other of my HTC's have been used like a football.
So once its fixed/replaced, I wont be taking a 2nd chance despite hating cases.
Thought about the Incipio feather Ultralight but based on the comments, sounds like it won't offer any decent protection. Might order the NGP Semi-Rigid Soft Shell Case instead. But from the photos, does the case sit over the buttons or are there cut outs?
What are the other options as far as minimal size but decent protection? I'll take my chances breaking it again before using some bulky ugly case!
HTC - NGP
Pretty sure there is only a single NGP that fits the international and AT&T version. The case covers the buttons but all are functional. I purchased the Nillkin Scub first which is very sleek but didn't offer a substantial lip around the screen. The NGP offers good protection without being bulky. Because it's designed for the international version the cutouts don't line up perfectly (microphone and speaker) but all the buttons and ports work fine. Had to make a small cut to get one of my power cords to fit.
