Omega?Titan?blablabla~where's the Skype???!!! - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Microsoft said it'll be come out with mango but until now i can't see any windows phone device running Skype neither on 7720 leak rom nor on radar/titan/Fujitsu. I need Skype! and where is it???

Skype will be build into the System later with Tango or something like that.
Bevore this happens it should come as app.
And that will happen AFTER the release of Mango!

what is the point of releasing Skype and no device currently have the Front-Face Camera?

http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/01/htc-titan-and-radar-wp-7-mango-phones-revealed-we-go-hands/
Both have front facing cameras. I'm sure many more will be coming out this holiday season, too.

Wow I guess battery technology has really improved on these next gen devices. I would have thought a Skype video call would drain the battery quickly? Since no one ever seems to talk about battery life when bringing up Skype & front facing cameras I guess it's a non issue.

It was pretty clear that Skype would be an app in Mango and Mango hasn't been released yet so really you're not done waiting.

Please dear God tell us this is not a serious question. Most people who use Skype on any platform do so for voice chat. Leave the Apple video hype elsewhere, till this day alot of carriers are still not willing or will charge a arm and a leg for video chat and on alot of them the quality is total crap compare to a desktop or Lappy

I'm really stunned that hasn't been implemented in Mango! WTF? they purchased Skype in May, I'm not a software guy, but surely one of the largest companies in the world could have made progress on this!

Before ranting you should have your facts straight:
1) The deal hasn't gone through yet, still waiting for approval.
2) Microsoft purchased Skype when Mango was well underway so it was never going to be integrated in Mango, just offered as an app. Integration can only come in a future update.

Duh. I use Skype only for video call.

Skype with working video?

Hello Community,
is it possible to use skype with video on the GalaxyTab?
I read somethin that i would have to cook flash into a custom ROM and such; my english is quite bad and my cooking skills are even worse.
I was hoping you might be able to at least tell me if its possible - and if "yes", how?
Thanks!
Steve.
AFAIK, video on Skype isn't available for any device. Hopefully they'll update it soon for front facing cameras.
Sent from my HTC Desire
I Read somewhere that they will be releasing a version VERY soon with this. Perhaps during CES. Hopefully its not just on the Iphooey platform...
Why cant you make calls on 3g? only wifi in US.
I can make calls anywhere, no problem.
But my parents, sister, step-parents and grandparents do not have video-capable cellphones. Or their contracts do not include a data flatrate which would be necessary for video telephony.
That's why i was trying to use skype.
PS: I found a teaser here.
As I mentioned earlier;
http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/24/skype-finally-bringing-video-calling-to-mobile/
its for the Isheep... but hopefully we might get lucky. Sadly, this will be heavily carrier dependant. As long as they get a version out, I am confident the community here will get a working apk for any platform working and with 3G too.
I currently use Skype that has been hacked to work with 3G data (and even works with EDGE speeds). However, before Skype released their latest version, there were many apks that just didnt work. They either only worked for Skypeout in the US or was setup to work on particular networks. I am a happy camper now though. Just need a video app just like you do.
In the meantime, Tango is brilliant! I love it

Tango is a great alternative to any other app for face chatting.....granted, the quality of the video could use a bit of an improvement, but overall, best resource out there for us GTab owners

The problem with most of these alternative is the lack of desktop clients. When I travel for work, I'd quite like to use the Tab to keep in touch with the family, which really means I need either another Tab, or a desktop client.

ooVoo seems to have both tab & desktop client. i haven't tried it, because i hate to have to install yet another app to do another function that could have been provided by skype in the first place. maybe it is a good solution for short term until skype comes around and updates their software

LOL good catch,
for some reason i saw Sky fire, instead of Sky pe ...(that's the problem of quick reading too quickly )
it'll be a while before Android Skype catches up to its counterpart on other systems

and still having bugs with some phones models not working properly

Seeing how Skype is hiring more mobile developers, we'll probably see cross platform skype next year. If they can get their act together though.
I think google might beat em to the finish line with this feature supposedly coming in honeycomb.

[Q] Best Video chat software?

Currently running TnT lite 5.0.1 on my ViewSonic G tablet and have tried Qik (the version designed for the galaxy tab), but the sound didn't work. Tried fring, but the whole app just made funny noises and didn't work. Also tried Tango, but the app didn't recognize a phone number, so it wouldn't let me use the software with my tablet. All tests were done with the gf who has an HTC EVO, stock.
Has anyone had any luck with any specific combination of ROM's and apps? Or do you know of another app that would be best?
Notice to SKYPE... you're expected to be the industry leader here, so wtf are you doing so far behind the curve on mobile video chat???
Thanks for any help!
Been wondering about this myself. I don't understand why nobody is making a big deal out of this. What's the point of having a front facing camera if there ain't no video chatting program that works? I am particularly ugly... don't know why my boy friend is my boy friend in the first place. I wouldn't want to take pictures of myself in a million years.
Anyway, this is one of the reasons why I'm still hesitant to order this device.
Try Yahoo messenger+ video plugin. It wors perfectly for me. Sound and video. Tested yesterday.
Greetings
But with yahoo messenger you can't call people on other services like skype. Or can you?
No, only yahoo contacts, but at least is a solution. Skype is playing the cell companies game here, so it will take a long time before they offer a video solution.
So what is the XOOM using for this? Custom Motorola build of something or... ?
Ya, xoom supposedly has a kickass video chat possibility that they've been advertising for a while. What are they using?

My understanding is the video chat in Honeycomb is through the GTalk server, which is awesome. Also quick note as I haven't seen it mentioned yet, Qik is actually owned by Skype.

May I ask where you got it from?
The oovoo site says my tablet doesn't qualify (running tnt 4.25)
And loading the oovoo apk I found on xda only force closes. (Even after moving it to system/app)

Isn't Skype eventually supposed to add video/camera support for tablets in the near future? Thought I recalled a couple of articles during CES about this.

(q) video call

Anybody can help me how to make video call on my infuse?thx
Qik is only program I found that worked properly with infuse. It worked good doing a video call with an iPhone 4.
There is an app called Clearsea in the market that is free for now that works very well. We use it on IPads for video conferencing to our video conference system in the office. But I think it can also do device to device video calls as well. Just has to be a SIP or H323 compliant device for it to function properly.
when we get gingerbread we can use google talk to make video calls. skype was working on a video chat release for android and was waiting verizon to give the ok until microsoft bought it. i think we will now have to wait until skype is fully working on windows phone 7 for a few months before they even consider releasing it.
Try Tango. They just updated to work with the infuse 4g. Me personally I like tango better they use Push Notification unlike other that have a process running synchronizing every X time killing battery. With tango I could completely shut it down and still get notified.

ill have to remove my foot from my mouth as it seems the first thing microsoft did with skpe was release video chat for android. its even been hacked to work with galaxy s and galaxy s2 phones with gingerbread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1148708 prolly would work on our phones too, and is yet another reason we need gingerbread!

yes. thats part of the point. seeing as everyone i know now has a phone with a front facing camera and a skype account, and iphones's facetime and android's google talk dont run on each others platforms, itd be really nice to have skype up and running now.

Skype 2 video available

The latest Skype update for Android is available to everyone, but it only enables video chat on four specific handsets. Fortunately, impatient modders have gone some way to correcting this profound injustice, by creating APKs that activate video calling on other handsets too. So far we've heard of successful ports on the Samsung Galaxy S II and the HTC Sensation, Thunderbolt and EVO 4G. If you've got some other handset with Android 2.3, a little experimentation with the APK might also be worth your while. However, we just tried it on an Xperia Arc and didn't get very far: the app ran, but efforts to communicate with an Xperia Neo resulted in one-way video, a locked landscape mode and plenty of awkwardness. Let us know if you fare better -- you'll find a Thunderbolt-specific download at the DroidLife source link, and a more general APK at TechPetals.
http://blogs.skype.com/en/2011/06/smile_skype_for_android_with_v.html
Figured I would drop this in here if anyone has some know how and wants to look into it to see if there is anyway for us to have this on our phone. Doubt it though considering it requires 2.3 which seems to be the standard for google video chat and stuff, but hey, its worth a shot!!!
Found some more info. Tested and still didn't work but apparently on our device but confirmed on the SGS2. Here is the link for the guy who got it working.

Im not familiar with knowing the ins and outs of editing an apk but this might be a start for someone who does
Probably requires GB.... I would think
yep. the official requires gb and in the list of device check. with device check removed, almost all with gingerbread can use it.
man, so much we can't do without gb. This phone should have launched with it.

Yeah, one of Google's big thing at IO was that they wanted to eliminate the fragmentation, yet I haven't seen anything to indicate they're taking steps to achieve this.
Unfortunately it's one big advantage Apple has... they take a hard line position that the carrier doesn't touch the OS software, nor prevent the deployment of the updates. Not sure why Google is such a wuss when it comes to holding the carriers accountable for the timely delivery of their updates. AT&T says it's because they have to ensure a quality user experience, but comon, what AT&T customer actually believes that crap? LOL

hey, this is gonna sound like a really dumb question and way off topic but can you tell me how your notified when someone posts. I personally have to try and remember the threads I participated in and see if someone replied. This seems very redundant but I don't see a better way to be notified. Thanks in advance
Is anyone's phone dying quickly after installing this. I even tried signing out and closing the app but my phone legit drains 10% an hour on standby. So I deleted the app. Now my wifi is turning on and off and can't keep a constant connection. Help?

I personally have seen no change since installing it, as for the wifi thing are you rooted and running any rom of sort of just stock? I have seen some wifi issues with the roms. Don't know if maybe the app sparked the problem or what but maybe you can backup your apps and reinstall. Good luck

The only true advantage that Apple has over Android is that they only more or less support one device. Android is spread amongst how many different devices? It's easy to put out lackluster updates to a single device, but putting out updates to 20+ different devices isn't so easy.
how are you guys even getting it to install? is it actually working?
yes please, can any one confirm that the video call on Skype is working on the infuse?
regards
no it is not working. installing the custom apk does give you the video call option, but if you press it, it goes into landscape to prepare for video call and then it does nothing. gingerbread is needed since it uses the frontfacing camera api.

Even if Skype supports video on the Infuse, I don't think I will start using it unless they address the battery usage.
