[Q] Flash a bit lost ?? - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

I want to do [TWEAK]Gingerbread Enhancerv6 but i have no idea how to put those files onto my phone?? i use odin because to me its the most simplest one to do and flash my phone , at the moment i have KG4 2.3.4 how can i get these files in there so i can get my phone smooth!! Thanks a lot guys

You need to flash drhonk's KG4 kernel. That'll give you root and CWM. Read carefully on instructions for that. You can go to YouTube and look for SamsungGalaxyS4GMods (phreshjoker). He has a video explaining how to flash GB ROMs and getting root.
After you get root and CWM working properly, put the GB Enhancer into your SD card. Leave it as a .zip file. Put it anywhere, it doesn't matter. Boot to CWM by pressing volume up, volume down, and power at the same time. Select "install file from zip" or something of the sort and choose the GB Enhancer .zip.
If you have questions, other questions, please read the bible. It pretty much has all the info, and quite frankly, not everyone here can spoon feed you info.

I have my phone rooted already, I found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194032&highlight=drhonk's+KG4+kernel going try this and i guess when that's done use CWM?

Flash it through Odin.

make sure to disable voodoo lagfix and system before you reboot.

Jesus Christ this is harder then i thought how in the world can i get in to Go to recovery (adb reboot recovery). makes no sense right now lol , also i flashed the file under PDA then whatt...? i try going to recovery and nothinggg

Relax and grab a beer!
Did you flash honks odin kg4 kernel?(it should go in pda)
Sip beer
If you did let it reboot.
sip beer
download quickboot from market if it's not there already.
sip beer
click quickboot
sip beer
select reboot recovery
sip beer
install zip from sd card
select tweeks
sip beer
reboot
swill beer and enjoy

OK fianily got it to CwM VooDoo Lagfix recovery mode 3.0.2.8x and when i go to install zip from sdcard i and pick from apply sdcard/update/zip or choose zip from sdcard when i hit choose zip from sdcard says E:can't mount /sdcard ... I also turned off Voodoo and system

did you check your mounts? make sure they are unmount, mount, mount, unmount.

Hey man its exactly like that when i try just to mount sdcard says error mounting sdcard , this is soo odd now

Hey fellow G2x's. I rooted my phone today and attempted to install CM7 nightly #56. FIrst of all...
I tried just downloading the rom via rom manaer, clicked wipe data and wipe cache. When I did it tried to install and asid "Could not open cm7nightlyetc..." And then it proceeded to reboot itself as if it was a new phone.
I then tried to do it via recovery. First whenever I click install from zip card then choose zip from sdcard, the only file I can see is LOST.DIR/ even though I deliberately moved the rom into the sdcard/. I was met with the same problem.
During both the encounters. a triangle with an ! appears, with a little android dude next to it. WHat does this mean? What do I need to do to fix this?

First rule of G2X/Tegra2 club... don't use Rom Manager. Use CWR for all your flashing needs. *Install CWR via NVFlash only.
Alright, I'm sorry but I came the G2.... And I was wondering what NVFlash is? I'm gonna google it, but it will be nice if you answer it too.
Setting up NVFlash
Here's the guide to setting up NVFlash. It's a moderately challenging process, but it's seamless after getting it put on your G2x. This is the only way to get CWM without issues. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054492
Oh, and remember to go into C: on your computer and make the folder "G2x". This is where you put the files from NVFlash.

First - the above is the truth - learned the hard way by many.
From the "triangle" comment, I would have thought you were not able to get into recovery anymore, but you said you had tried flashing in recovery - are you still able to get into recovery? Also, when you said you moved the file to the SD - internal or external?
You could re-download the ROM on you computer and/or move the one you downloaded when in USB connect mode if you can connect through USB. and then try flashing it again.
Otherwise - did you do an nandroid back-up first (add that to the G2X Club rules). If so, and you can get into recovery, you can restore it through recovery. If not, you are truly back to square one (except for rooted).
At some point, you need to NVflash a real recovery. The one-click method in the Dev section is the easier way to go. If you can't get into recovery (you only see the triangle and it only does a factory reset), then you HAVE to start there.
Yeah I am still able to get to recovery mode. And external sdcard.
I think i'm just gonna go staright to the NVFlash way. I have a history class today so I have a hour and a half to burn.
And thanks guys for all the inputs.
I'm loving my G2x so far. So fast and sleek
All you need to do is NVFlash once, just so you can get into recovery on a bootloop (Power+VolDown)
After you install NVFlash once, you can use RomManager all you want (I do).
Rom Manager will install a temp recovery initially, but it won't affect your permanent NVFlash recovery. So just do both. Rom Manager will work perfectly fine without doing a NVFlash, but an NVFlash just enables the option to get into recovery on a cold boot.
Every day, I launch Rom Manager and it will find the latest Nightly and download it plus Google Apps, prompts for Full Wipe, Backup, or Cache options, then it will reboot, flash the items, and reboot back into Android.
So, again, NVFlash just enables Power+VolDown to get into recovery but Rom Manager works great without it. You SHOULD do BOTH initially and just get it out of the way.
Alright thanks. I just installed via NVFlash and now I will try again to install CM7

Agree with all the above (I have and use both), except for making nandroids, which was not mentioned above. The only ones where I have had a check-sum issue with trying to restore are nandroids I did with ROM Manager. I would stick with doing them straight from recovery.
Others have had issues with flashing nightlies also, but I have not noticed that as I always head straight to recovery to flash.
Question - I had flashed real recoveries with ROM manager on MT4G - why the "false" recovery issue on G2X?
So player, once I have NVFLASH and CWM, I can download ROM manager to backup/restore/flash any ROM from the list without worrying about anything?
Hey, I installed the 4.0.0.3 and I still have the same problem. I can't see any roms I put on the SD card, and when I try to install it by naming it update.zip it gives me the same error. Any ideas?
OKay so here is what happens
Installing: /sdcard/update.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E:Can't open /sdcard/update.zip
(No such file or directoy)
Installation aborted
THere is definately a file there. I just named it that cause it wont shop up when i choose zip from sd card.
I would redownload the zip file over the computer, happened to me before with a different rom, make sure it doesnt unzip. and then drag it to your SD card.
Okay I am perfomring that now, will edit with results.
My goodness... I think you fixed it for me. I feel like an idoit. I've been saving it to hte internal Sdcard i didn't even know that was possible.
Damnit... same problem.
Yay I got it. Thanks so much guys for all the help.

The ROMs were probably going to the internal SD by default. Just move them with a file manager to the external SD (unless you set up recovery to use the internal SD).
Also, do not rename them update zip - leave the names as-is so you will know what your are dealing with if you have multiple ROMs .
Then you flash it as a zip file on SD card - not as "update.zip" - that would be for the OTA update - if we ever actually see one for the G2X!
Good job Gman
Different roms put the external SD card in different places.
By default Rom Manager is set to read/write to /sdcard/... not /sdcard/external_SD that is the norm with the stock(based) roms.
Once you have CM7 on there and everything setup under standard conditions, Rom Manager will work as it should.

[Q] Any chance I could get a hand "modding" my phone.

I've been on this site a little over than an hour and a member for about 10 minutes now and i'm trying to find ways to better my devices performance, I am a little familiar with cyanogen mod and know that is is not yet available for the SGS4G and i know better than asking when it will be released. How ever I did see something called 'bionix Black Ice ROM' people i here seemed to be stoked about that. Now what exactly is that? will it help my phones performance? will it get rid of all the bloatware? next if it does help with all of that could somebody step by step walk me through the process or make a youtube vdeo showing how to install black ice step by step? i'm obviously new to all this and really don't wanna brick my phone.
thanks, GD
hi! welcome to the forums, btw! this is the best place to find out stuff about your phone. i was in your place about a month ago, so i know exactly how confused you are.
you should read this for everything referencing your phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117554
to answer your questions: yes. lol. no more bloat, everything will be much faster and basically you will have the phone of your dreams.
i am no expert, but i would root the phone using superoneclickroot. then download root explorer. get krylon's final cwm. download the rom (black ice or frost or w/e you prefer), download bali 3.1, the ext4 converter, and maybe a new modem (optional). flash those following the very well written guides by the devs and you should be ok.
everyone here is pretty awesome and we're all willing to help (even me...who barely knows anything).
Ok, i've already Rooted my phone. I guess now i need to download said programs. any links on these well written descriptive how to? because all the ones i saw confused the hell out of me and id like to believe i'm not completely retarded. Thank you for the welcome BTW.
i would start with krylon final cwm. his directions are pretty straightforward. i used root explorer to move the file where it needed to be.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1099374
i am assuming you downloaded the rom already from the CWM rom section in the bible. its up to you. im biased towards bionix frost, but black ice is just as amazing.
i would also dl the ext converter and bali 3.1 kernel as well. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1123039) (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1080871). place all of the zip files you download into the root of your sd card....which means that if you connect your phone to the computer and open it using windows explorer, it is that first window, which lists all of the folders. dont put these files in folders or anything.
once that is done, i restarted my phone in recovery shutting down fully and pressing the power+volume up+volume down. once there, i went to reinstall packages to get into cwm.
then when this loads, i wiped the system/factory reset and wiped the cache. then i went to mounts and storage and mounted my system. (the final mounting output should be: unmount, mount, mount, unmount). i then scrolled to "go back"
i choose install zip file from sd card. choose zip file, which should be the second option if my memory serves me right. scroll of ext converter and install that one. then when that is done, go back to install file from sd card, choose black ice or frost (i LOVE frost) and install that one. then when that is done, i flash my bali 3.1 uv kernel. when that is flashed, i click go back and choose reboot system. once that is done, you will see the galaxy s screen for like 5 min or so followed by the team whiskey logo. once you see this, it will take another minute or so to load up. once you see that the rom loads up...LET THE PHONE SIT FOR 10 minutes. i know it seems long, but just let it sit.
after 10 min or so, i would go into your about phone options and check and see that you have bali3.1 and that the rom is correct.

you can flash a modem too (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117331) using the same process as flashing any other zip file.
remember, the first option in choosing a zip file is update.zip from krylons final cwm. do not flash this after the rom/ext/whatever. im not sure if this has been addressed (im still a noob), but everytime i did that, i bricked my phone. lol. so just to answer your question before you wonder...cause i always wondered whether i should flash that or not. lol.
hope this helps. feel free to press the thank button.

LOL! that was more of a joke. the real credit goes to people like krylon and team whiskey, drhonk, dsexton, chadster, mad, raver, etc. they really made all this possible.
let us know how it goes. you can honestly flash all of this within 5 min (not including wait times to build the cache). once you get it down, you should check out some other posts because people are always coming up with creative tweaks to make things better.

Hi, i am very new and a noob at this site and rooting in general. Hear me out. Im stuck on getting the recovery on the phone. ADB push? Root explorer? I cannot find /system/bin.. PLz walk me tru.
If you rooted your phone, download root explorer from the market. then follow the guides I listed in the post. If you read through the threads, everything has already been asked.
Root explorer is a file manager that allows you to see everything. there are other explorers, like super manager, but I like root explorer. To push a file, download it to your computer, move it to your sd card, open root explorer, find the file, long press, click move, and then navigate to the destination folder and paste.
To get into recovery to flash roms, shut the phone off, then press power and the two volume buttons at the same time. You'll get to a screen with blue text. Click reinstall packages and you'll see krylon's cwm. Follow my previous post prior to going into download mode though.

im not sure what im missing- i have smooth maximus x, rom manager, and it has the recovery or whatev- but when i boot into recovery it boots the stock one- wtf! the menu for rom manager is not flashing the img. it says it is. just erased everything for nothing!problem?
If its going to the stock recovery, its working fine! when you are on stock recovery menu, choose install packages (or whatever it is) and that will get you into clockwork recovery.
But its not loading to clockworks revovery. It just goes to standard start up when that option is selected.
correction
Sorry correction- I try that, and it says "signature verififaction failed- installation aborted." Why?

why are you using ROM manager to flash the recovery if your on SMX ? SMX has bali 2.2 in it wich has CWM built into the kernel so your recovery should be the RED voodoo CWM recovery by default. and if stock blue recovery is coming up for some reason yu should be able to reinstall packages cause SMX has the modded stock recovery already
No no no, I'm not on smx- I'm trying to install the darn thing. I'm still on the stock rom. When I boot into recovery there are 4 options-
Reboot now
Wipe data
Wipe cache
Install packages
When selecting install packages, it fails via signature verification. There are no cwm recovery options available, either.
ooh .. your problem is you have to be rooted which im sure you already are ..
then go to the CWM thread in the DEV section and apply the modded recovery to system/bin . this will make the recovery ignore the signature check so you can flash CWM then SMX
use root explorer or adb push this file
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2993191/recovery
to /system/bin
then put this file on the root of ur sd
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2993191/update.zip
and put maximus x rom on ur sd
reboot recovery
reinstall packages
now ur in cwm
- Wipe Data/Factory Reset
- Wipe Cache Partition
Go to mounts and storage
UNMOUNT CACHE
MOUNT DATA
MOUNT SDCARD
UNMOUNT SYSTEM
install zip from sd
choose zip from sd
look for maximus x rom install and u should be good
after you flash, go back to mounts and storage (before rebooting) and make sure your mounts look like this
UNMOUNT CACHE
MOUNT DATA
UNMOUNT SDCARD
UNMOUNT SYSTEM
this is as easy as i can put it
Thank you very muych for your persistence to help! I am a noob and cannot find the ty button. I'm a newb, I know.HOWEVER....…I am not a newb to this in general, and I have tried that already. I read that forum . Duh!this is what happens when trying to move the file to sys.bin:
Root explorer says:
Paste operation failed-
Does not say why. I found a solution! Another forum says to downgrade to stock recovery e2, then cwm will work. But I have to get odin and crap. So if there is something I'm STILL missing, and can't move the file there for that reason, don't hesitate to enlighten me.
you need to move the modded recovery to /system/bin/recovery, anything that tells you to downgrade is not correct, as we do not have anything to 'downgrade' to. The modded recovery from Krylon does the same thing. you should be following this:
1. download the recovery.zip from krylon
2. extract the .zip and copy the recovery file to your sdcard
3. use root explorer to copy the recovery from the sdcard to /system/bin/recovery
if it fails, make sure that /system is mounted as read write, rather than read only, there should be a button in root recovery to mount read/write.
Thank you sir! I was comitting a syntax error... maybe by attempting to copy the file from the wrong directory. No, the downgrade works... I was reffering to e2 recovery for samsung rather than e3 which requires signature ver. But that takes waaaaaay longer. So thank you. I was trying to copy the whole zip, rather than the actual file because I thought I had extracted it(stupid). But yeah. Ty! Will see if cwm works now.
Glad to hear that it worked for you, let me know how cwm works out for you, as well as whatever parts come after that for you. Don't forget the Thanks button if someone helps you
The files are in their proper places, all is right.
But when I boot into recovery, I am startled with fright!
For its still normal, its still stock-
So help me ill throw this phone like a rock!
Haha. But seriously. Still same issue.
FAILS TO INSTALL ANYTHING
"Signature verification failed- installation aborted."
It seems I will have to do it the hard way by installing e2. This was this issue for the galaxy s.
Why does no one else with a sidekick have to do this!!!!? Why is it not giving y'all signature verification errors! Why is there no video yet?
Sig verification issues relate to the recovery. it should still look like stock, as the original CWM is a fake flash. Make sure you have the cwm update.zip from Krylon's thread in your sdcard.
It is!!!!!! I think I'm going to cry.
Recovery is saved (overwrite) as instructed.
Update is on sd card as instructed.
Can't be corrupted, deleted files and tried again.
Boot into recovery and stock shows (as it should.)
Re-install from package (only option other than data wipe and reboot)
Whole signature failure
Signature verification failure
Installation aborted. :'(
i'll make you a script and a zip of everything to do this for you later, but that won't be until a bit later, still have to drive my girl home. in the meantime, can you try redownloading the cwm from ayo's original post? also, have you tried the rom manager version of cwm?
Roger that.
And it would be greatly appreciated. If it is, however, just another list of the instructions as mentione previously in this thread, or in the original rom post, forget it. But if there's something new then sure. Heck, a video would be great. I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one watching it either. And I will redownload all of it again(non-existant jesus christ) and try again in the meantime. Thank you again for your effort and supporth surely it must be that I am the only on with this issue. So I am unique on xda! Silly video...
i could even go so far as to skype someone to SHOW them ive got it right or what i have done, in which case i would hope for an "ah ha!now that thurz ya problem right thur neow."
Ok, I have a script for you, it's semi-tested? I already have root in my adb, so I can't test it as well, but it should work. let me know what happens. just unzip this, and run the run.bat.
this will reboot you into recovery after it's done, so make sure you're not doing anything on your phone when you run it.
https://sites.google.com/a/stephenduvick.com/www/files/sk4gtestoneclickroot.zip?attredirects=0&d=1
Credit to Noobnl for the original script, and krylon for the fake flash.
So how exactly do I run the run.bat? Its not an exe or script file... is there a command list I need to put in? (Gawd, the last custom rom I installed(cliq xt) was so much easier, before there even was a clockwork mod. It was easier, and that was when it was the hard way!) And my phone is already rooted, sure that doesn't matter though.

[Q] [Help!!!] System Partition Not Converting

So I've been trying to install the Black Ice rom on my new SGS4G for a few days now. Its rooted, I've been able to Odin flash the Pda_Kd1.tar and i can flash the stock rooted white hawx rom just fine and then flash the Bali 3.2 kernel. The problem seems to happen when I install Black Ice or any rom that runs the voodo lag fix / ext4 system partition.
I've tried using the RFS format zip and then flashing the rom, but i still have the same problem. Either i can't get past the Samsung boot screen, or linda tells me that system is not accesible and then hangs.
I've searched through the forums and have tried everything i can find, but i feel like i'm missing a step.
Also i'm running KD1 obviously from the stock roms. i'm a newb to the SGS4G flashes, but definitely not to roms and flashing in general.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
This was discussed SO extensively in the Black Ice 2 thread. You will find many posts from RaverX3X and some other members saying what they did.
What I did was (I'm writing this out of memory):
1) Odin to KD1 (you must let it boot up first and everything)
2) Get CWM Final from krylon360's post
3) Flash Black Ice 2 - MAKE SURE YOU CHECK MOUNTS
4) Immediately flash Bali Kernal 3.X (any with Voodoo support)
5) Advanced -> Reboot CWM -> Red CWM
6) Make sure Voodoo lagfix is enabled on next boot and system
7) Reboot phone
8) Let phone sit for 10-15 minutes
That's what I did and it worked like a charm.
Sometimes, /system won't convert to ext4, even if your phone completely booted up. If that happens, you should read the whole Black Ice 2 thread for more details. I forgot how you were supposed to deal with that. However, I THINK you were supposed to (1)back up Black Ice 2 with CWM, (2)clean slate, (3)flash ext4 convertor by dsexton702, and (4)restore backup. That should put you in ext4 full.
On another note, you should read dsexton702's post on the /data ext4 mod. Interesting stuff.
That's the exact same process I went through the first 3 times. Then I went ahead and tried the RFS flash like the thread said to do and still the same problem. I also tried this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15314984&postcount=568 by comxpert and I was still not able to get past linda system unavailable.
Also if i install the white hawx stock rom and then try to install the black ice rom, after a full wipe or not, it seems like the black ice rom doesn't write to system because it'll still load the white hawx rom after a reboot. the only thing i can think of that might work is installing an odin flash that'll reformat the /system part to ext4 automatically, but i'm not sure of any rom or even if it's possible to odin flash something like that.
i have thought about trying to odin flash the GB rom and then working back to the black ice rom, but i'm a bit worried about how that'll work.
We don't have cwm for gb yet so that won't do any good. Some people have had luck flashing bali 2.1 to get it up and running then going back and flashing 3.1 later

Yeah Black Ice is though to flash but worth it...This is what you do if you want it.
you will need Krylon360's update.zip file for CWM. Put this file in the root of your SD Card.
Then you will need Whitehawkx ODIN KD1
Then you will need DrHonk's KD1 flashable thur CWM
and last but not least Krylon's Black Ice Room
1 - Put Krylon's update.zip file in root of your SD Card.
2 - place drhonk's T959VUVKD1_Deodexed_U1.zip file in a folder in your SD Card make sure you know where it is. you will need to find it to flash this later.
3 - Now you will need to Odin Whitehawkx PDA_KD1.tar.md5 file. make sure when you flash this the re-partition box is NOT checked and place this file in the PDA Section from ODIN.
4 - After flash. It will leave your phone in recovery, unplug your phone from PC and go into reinstall packages and apply the update.zip. Flash it. go to advanced and reboot recovery.
5 - now go to reinstall packages/ mounts and storage and make sure your mounts look like this
UNMOUNT/CACHE
MOUNT/DATA
MOUNT/SDCARD
UNMOUNT/SYSTEM
This is how the mounts should look every time before we flash anything in the phone. or in this guide when is said to check your mounts.
6 - go back and install zip from sd card/choose zip/ and find drhonk's T959VUVKD1_Deodexed_U1.zip
7 - after this is done lets go back and go to mounts and storage and make sure your mounts look the same as before. if they don't, click on them untill they look like that.
8 - install zip from SD Card/choose zip now you will flash Krylon 360's Black Ice. after this is done. check your mounts again as they need to look the same as before then go to advanced and reboot recovery. check your mounts again. go back and reboot system.

trying this now, looking good so far...
I've always told my buddies how great the android/xda community is, but i've never appreciated it more than now. Finally getting everything to boot. I think it was ssmokey727's process of doing the cwm flashes without fully loading the rom that did it for me. I greatly appreciate the quick responses.

[Q] Installing Hellfire Phoenix

I'm about to get a g2x very soon, and i heard that the stock rom sucks and that Hellfire Pheonix's is best. The instructions given on the op was not very beginner friendly, so i'm a bit confuse. This is going to be my first android and i would appreciate it if someone could link me to some sort of reference and tutorial for the installation of Hellfire Phoenix.
I've searched and google, but i had no luck. If you guys know if a detailed tutorial is out there, then just tell me and i'll put more effort into finding my answer. Thank you very much.
EDIT: To be more specific, what threw me off was "DO NOT use CWM to load the rom to your SD card. CWM has been known to cause file corruption when using it to transfer the zip file.". From all the tutorials that i've read and seen, they all use cwm. what are the alternatives?

What it means is don't boot into CWM and mount usb storage and copy files to sd card from there because it is known to corrupt the file and then could end up in a bad flash and it could harm ur phone.
When ur gonna copy the rom ur gonna flash to ur sd card, make sure ur booted into android first and mount usb storage from there.
Hope this helped

Correct.
Now, to fully answer your question:
Ok, adding this in after I wrote this to make things clearer: before starting make sure you:
1. Have G2x scrubber in the root of your SD card
2. Have the zip for your ROM (HFP in this case) in the root of your SD card
3. Have a copy of gapps (Google Apps) in the root of your sd card, get it here
4. After flashing CWM make a back-up (nandroid) of your stock ROM via CWM
First you need to flash Clockwork Mod (CWM) on your phone go here for that:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847
Also, note: NEVER use ROM manager to flash CWM.
Second grab G2x scrubber from the HFP thread.
Next boot into CWM by holding volume down and power at the same time as the phone starts up. I find it helpful to count to three (eg, one one thousand, two one thousand, etc) after the blue and white (as opposed to plain white) LG logo first appears, that way you will have your finger off the power button when CWM starts. And in case it needs to be explained: you navigate CWM via the volume keys and make selections with the power button.
So, having downloaded G2x scrubber to your phone, go to "install zip from SD card" then "choose zip from SDcard" and navigate to G2x scrubber, run it twice.
Once that is done, use the same install zip option and this time choose the HFP zip.
Next select the gapps zip and flash it.
You're all done. Reboot and enjoy.
Thanks for the helpful replies! I feel very confident about modding my g2x when i get it now!
EDIT: Do i need to root my phone if i'm going to install HFP?

No, just use NVFlasher to flash ClockWorkMod Recovery, then flash your rom. You'll be rooted when you finish.
I found good guides on TheUnlockr. There are links in the thread discussing Hellfire Sandwich (HFS). If you don't need wifi calling or the ability to take video I would recommend using HFS v1.2. It is an update to ICS (Android 4.0.x) but it is not completely stable yet.
