Force update of stock apps - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently rooted my phone so it wiped everything and I'm back to a clean phone but I am missing updates to stock apps. I thought they would get pushed on their own but its been three days now and they haven't updated. Anyway I can force an update? I already tried clearing market cache but it didn't work.

You mean updates like maps 5.9.0 and gmail 2.3.5? Then you'll have to wait until it's your device's turn for an autoupdate again. Basically it's rolled out in badges and it's not your turn now, maybe it'll take a few days.
Haven't heared of a way to force updates. Try signing in to Google servers, *#*#checkin#*#*, but I think that's for OS OTAs only.
Or you'll have someone send you the apks. If you have cwm recovery you can use gapp.zip from CM. Another option (root req) is to get market enabler, delete teh stock app via TB and then redownload it.

Try going to Market. It might not show Gmail under Updates, but I just opened the Gmail market page and it let me manually update to the latest version 2.3.5.

Looking at his name I think he's German as well, we don't have access to GMail app via the market here, we have to wait for OTA updates (or use market enabler).

I'm from India.
I managed to force an update by changing my carrier using market enabler to Verizon in the USA. The market and music app updated within a minute.

Thanks, I actually may have fixed it by accident. I used odin and again and used the PIT this time and then went into 3e and went to the option to delete user data and when the phone rebooted i went thru the setup guide and skipped everything. I then went to the market and it had me go thru the google sign up guide and i signed into my account and then i went into the manage applications and saw that the market version was 2.3.6 so Im not sure if what i did worked or if it was just me.
Just FYI it auto updates to the latest version. Had the same thing happen to a new Infuse I picked up today for my wife.
Hers hadn't updated after 10 minutes so did the following (posted on a Google help forum I can't link to because I'm noob):
Delete the market's cache and data and force close it, reboot your phone. After reboot start the market wait a minute go back to home and then restart the market.
This "worked" for me, but waiting a little longer or rebooting may have been what actually fixed it.

I did delete the cache and data and i waited like an hour and it didn't update. Whatever i did before worked.
Thanks for your help.
try downloading an app, it should then say updates available in the notification bar, it may automatically update or you can go into "my apps" and see the updates. if that doesnt work i guess i can pull the apk and post it
I got it figured out, but before it did update some apps.
It eventually changes, mine stayed liek that for 3 days i think then just changed to the new one...
i kind of like the old one tho.

Not a crisis, but could use some help

So after reading that the 2.3.6 update should not cause loss of root (i used zergrush oneclick), I decided to go ahead and do it OTA.
Unfortunately I was on a conference call for work and forgot to unfreeze the apps I had previously frozen with TiBu.
Started the update, it got to 75% and then said "update failed" and restarted. Everything seems fine.
I went into TiBu, unfroze everything and went back to update. I checked for the update and it is saying I am up-to-date, and to check back in 24 hours, but the phone is still on 2.3.5.
Any thoughts on how to force it tonight (or later if it does not want to do it on it's own)
Figured I would ask first before messing around anymore.
Yes push menu settings date and time uncheck automatic and change your date to a day from now manually then u can get the update

Thanks for the quick answer.
Unfortunately, while that did allow me to check again for updates, it is still saying my phone is up to date, despite showing as being on 2.3.5
I don't think the TiBu frozen apps prevented the OTA update... I was rooted using SuperOneClick 2.2 on 2.3.5. I did the OTA 2.3.6 update with 18 apps frozen with TiBu and it updated fine... I retained root... 18 apps still frozen... LauncherPro and all my widgits still functional. We're you on stock Recovery?

Vaguely embarrassed but I think so? I have a new kid so much less time to play with phones.
Took a stock phone, rooted with zergrush, added super user so I could use TiBu to freeze bloat and some of the advanced juice defender and widget locker capabilities and that is it.

Any solution for this yet?
I did the same thing, had mulitple apps and services frozen. I keep getting the already updated message.

Hope you guys can get it from the market like we can on tmobile. Anyhow, here is the rooted 2.3.6 rom. Please, after first boot, go back into recovery and fix permissions.

[Q] Apps not downloading from Google Play

Is anyone else having issues getting apps to download? It started for me after flashing back to stock so I could check out the toggles mod. Since I froze updater.apk in order to stop the OTA update notification, I assumed that was the cause. Now, I'm running 77.8.10 with the stock kernel and I still have the problem. Apps look like they are going to update or download but just hang there and I eventually get error 495. The only thing that works for me is wiping the cache/dalvik cache--within a few days, the problem comes back.
I've had problems with the play store too, but I thought it was more of a connection issue. It'd start to go through the process of dl'ing but would hang as soon as I click accept. It adds the app to the installed list and show that its queued, but would never download. I'd have to cycle my wifi to get it to go again.
That's the only problem I've had with the play store.

Hi there;
I reinstall the stock rom on my nexus 5. At the beginning all my apps get well installed. But I see that Zooper Pro Widget didn't install, I try to install it manually but I receive the message error RPC:S-3...
I found a thread on XDA a tried everything were mentioned there but nothing works .
The problem seems to be with Zooper cause I can install other application without problems.
Any idea ?
Did you install the latest stock image, 4.4.3? Maybe zopper isn't compatible with it yet

Got the same issue at the moment with an app (Scrum Poker).
I tried clearing stuff (google play and google play services - didn't touch the play framework data yet) but to no avail. The app is constantly nagging me about updates and I will probably end up uninstalling it.

I hope you will have the same luck I have. I had to wait just one day and everyhing seems to be good now.
It seems that's a a random issue. I was updating my apps when I only had this error with CM Browser.
This is happening to me too, I thought that it's because I rooted with towelroot.
I had to download the apk using apk downloader chrome extension and sideload it.
I could not update using play store. I uninstalled it tried to install it fresh but I still got the error. After I sideloaded it, I uninstalled it and tried to install it directly from Google play and it worked!
Edit: the apps that I could not update were gtasks and badland.

Did the same, and now I don't get the nag about the update. Guess there was something odd, since I had to "force" to download the latest, so maybe the error is actually on google's side and I have been resetting and reconfiguring stuff like a mad man for nothing
Exactly.I cleared data for Google play and Google play services, uninstalled updates for Google play, I even cleared data for Google framework but nothing helped. It could be a Google issue.

More tests:
I can install a new app or uninstall an app and then reinstall it without a problem.
It seems that only apps that have updates generate this error.
*EDIT* There's a new update for rayman fiesta run and the update worked so the problem could be fixed already
*EDIT2* I uninstalled Badland and it still gives the error when I try to install it fresh.

I'm assuming this is perhaps an issue on Google's end somehow. I've never had this error, as I've always been stock/rooted. However, I am now getting this error when trying to update the ESPN Sportscenter app. I figure I'll just wait to see if it resolves itself.

+1
Yesterday I was finally able to install CM Browser. I didn't do anything to fix it.
In my case force downloading the latest version from play store (using the chrome extension on my desktop) did the trick. It seems that the version that google was serving me by default was 2.3 though it was notifying me that it had an update ready.
Guess it's some sort of caching issue, but for me it was annoying (was so close to reset the phone).

Just an update from my post above. I was getting the error all day yesterday trying to update the Sportscenter app. This morning, it updated fine. I didn't do anything at all. I guess a little patience does go a long way.

App Updates?

Hey,
So I have flashed my Nexus 5 back to pure stock in preparation for Lollipop.
The problem I'm having is; although many of the stock apps require updates and show this on an individual basis on the store - the usual long list of apps requiring an update in the 'my apps' section is missing. I like being able to click update all, and I don't want to trawl through and update every app individually. I have tried clearing the cache in settings, restarting, logging out and back into my Google account, but none of these have worked.
My Nexus 5 is only a few weeks old, and the stock I installed was from the Google Developer page, so it should be working in theory. It's also set to update automatically over Wi-Fi. Any advice?
Could be because those apps have permissions changes if they didn't auto update. I've noticed that I have to click apps individually when the permissions change from the update.

Sorry for the off topic, but why did you do this?
I was worried in case the OTA update would not push through with my device being on CM11.
And I'd much rather be on Lollipop than CM11

Yeah but there will be rooted flashable zips available before the OTA anyway, and OTA is about the crappiest way to update too. Just seems a lot of effort for nothing.
True, I was getting tired of CM11 anyways. I look forward to the zip!
