Welp, thanks to slickdeals i was able to get out of my sprint contract with no early termination fee, i jumped on the t-mobile and got the 49.99 unlimited everything deal with my girlffriend and I.
I used to love my evo on the CM7 rom, but omg the sensation is just a whole lot better in every shape and form
-Battery life
My main gripe about the evo was the ****ty battery life, I did so many roms/kernel combos to find what woudl give me the best battery but in the end i felt i had to turn off so many cool features just to make my phone last all day. The sensation last all day with wifi/gps it last so long that i don't even have to worry about forgetting to charge it at night, Before with the evo if i forgot to charge my phone i would wake up to a dead phone....
-Signal
This is mainly t-mobile coverage but i have not lost a single call int he week i have had it and i get 4g inside my house and full bars(would roam in my house with sprint) The call quality is alot better as well
-Comparing both stock roms the sensation is alot better than the EVO, i don't even really want to venture into modding it as I am getting everything i need just on stock form
Anyone else make the switch from EVO to Sensation? I am happy i finally got a new phone, it's wicked fast!!
Should i even bother trying out new roms?
Yes you should try diff roms. Some pretty good ones just have to dedicate urself to one

Was with T-Mobile for about 7 years.
Went to Sprint for EVO 3D.
Hated Sprint signal (lack thereof).
Came back to T-Mobile and got the Sensation.
T-Mobile rocks, as does the Sensation, and after having tried all of the ROMs in the dev forum for it, I highly recommend Synergy ROM. That team does top-notch work, and I've used their stuff since WinMo 6.1, and they are truly tops.
Also, they have an updater app within their ROM so upgrading to newer builds later is much less time-consuming than other ROMs. It's also super-fast, super-stable, and has some nice UI touches the other ROMs lack. Try it out.
Oh, and welcome to TMO.

Yup Sprint for some reason BLOWS in my house and evern around town i can't get decent data connection, my highest ever speedtest was like 400kb/s.... in my house i would get 50-80kb/s... The sensation on the other hand gets like 3-4500kb/s the difference is ****ing insane! really glad i made the switch and coudn't be happier!
I am going to give the synergy rom a shot, I just don't want to try it and have certain things not working, I did like that rom on the evo too
Just went from evo to sensation. I love the sensation. Better in every aspect. I don't get 4g with the evo but do with tmo. The best combo I found with with the evo was stock Rom and kernel. The sensation I will root when I get the 2.3.4 update but won't put roms on until they get one that works well with the dual core CPUs.

I also switched from a cm7'd evo back in early July. Sensation blows the evo away in every way shape and form...
I will say it took me a while to find a decent sense ROM I was happy with since i'm waiting for CM7 for us. But i'm glad I switched everyone said Tmobile was a downgrade but has been a upgrade for me in every way in the area I live in!!

I was with sprint for 3 years, had instinct then EVO. Great service right up until the end, then it completely **** the bed, so I decided to stop giving good money for bad service. EVO was a solid phone though.
Former evo user here, too (by way of G2x and Nexus S)...
I'm on stock tmo 2.3.4, s-off and rooted of course. I've used titanium backup to de-bloat and get rid of the apps and widgets I don't need or want. I've tried a couple of roms, but at this point I'm happy with de-bloated stock. I'll probably feel differently in the future and need to breathe some fresh air into my Senny.
After using stock Android on the Nexus S and formerly on the evo, I really prefer the look of a stock sense rom over stock Android. It has some nice touches, and the included mail and messaging apps are pretty nice. I really appreciate the ability to preview up to 5 lines of an email in the mail app and the ability to send group texts and picture messages without a 3rd party app.
Of course, there are things I don't like, too. For example, I can't delete the homescreens I don't use and I can't remap the right rosie button to the browser without a mod. I also don't like how recent apps are in the notification pulldown (I know, there is a mod to remove the recent apps and many custom roms do) and that I can't customize the quick settings tab in the pulldown menu, but those are minor gripes.

Welcome aboard the Sensation train.I came from the original Evo aswell(had it for a year) although my experince with my Evo isn't as bad as yours sounds.Sure battery life wasn't the greatest, but beside that i loved my Evo,especially with the great dev community it had.
That being said,I'm definetly loving my Sensation more and i think it's a worthy upgrade.Developement isn't as huge as the Evo was/is but it's slowly getting there.I recommend you S-OFF,root and try some of the great custom Roms in the dev section.my favs are InsertCoin and AHDR by Mike1986.Good luck and enjoy your new beast...It's gonna be an awsome ride with Icecream Sandwich coming this fall. Can't wait.
BTW how excatly did you get out of contract without ETF??!

I switched from the Evo to the Sensation and couldn't be happier. The phone is a huge improvement. Even stock, the battery life is awesome. T-Mobile service can be a little bit better but where I just moved to Sprint was horrible that's why I switched. My only gripe about the Sensation is its always switching from 2g to 4g. But from my understanding the area where I now live is new with 4g.

I really enjoyed the Inspire but I started to get all crazy reception issues where I couldnt make a call or receive sometimes. Anyone else having these issues? Someone at the att store said alot of ppl are complaining of this.
Yesterday I exchanged for the atrix and it felt a lil bit more snappy, nothing to wow me but I could make calls and receive, no issues at all. My main issue was it would hardly charge on usb from any pc I used, and it would get really hot trying so right there I said, this is going back. In less than 24hrs I was back at the AT&T store to get a new inspire.
I really dont want to have any reception issues, and I almost believe all the flashing roms, radios, kernels, I messed something up along the way. Heck, Im even scared to root now. I want to use the phone totally stock and make sure it works great whereever I am before I root even. I'm also wondering if rooting causes battery to drain quicker.
So I ask all you experienced Android users/developers. Am I right in believing that all the flashing I've done might of messed my reception? Even maybe rooting might have messed something up? If not, is there a way to make a complete backup right now, so I can go right back to this when I do begin to root and what not. I almost feel like the stock rom, when I went back to it and unrooted before I returned the last inspire made no difference. The new Inspire seems to hold a better signal now. So can I back up the current stock rom before I do anything?
Interested to hear what advice this drums up. I went from Atrix (painfully bad PenTile LCD, shamelessly locked down) to Inspire back to my old N1 because I got a few days of no signal and missed calls in the office. I read recently that there's some sort of leaked magical radio that fixes a lot of the issues, so I'm keeping an eye towards the Inspire. $20 at Costco is a worthy use of my contract upgrade.
Yeah, there are other phones coming down the pike. I'm stuck with AT&T and given this is an otherwise solid phone and how awesome HTC tech support has been with my N1 I don't want to go with another mfr. Also Optimus 3D has only 512MB RAM? WTF?
If you have patience, your issues will be ironed out. Inspire ROMs and development is still kind of early.
If you just be patient, GPS...reception....bugs....will all be a thing of the past. Both devices are excellent. HTC build quality and 'openness' is something to envy. Just relax, I think you made a wise choice.
Just out of curiosity, what rom were you running when you started having issues? I'm on stock with root and have yet to have any problems with gps or reception.

nailed my main problems right there (in bold)...
Nice to see you lingering in the inspire forums DG
I purchased the Inspire the day it came out and absolutely loved it. That one had major issues with the screen. It would not register my touch about 80% of the time. So I exchanged that one for another Inspire and the second one had all sorts of problems. Dropped calls, calls no received, no VM notification, random reboots, and of course the always popular, locked phone that required a battery pull.
At that point I just thought the Inspire was not that great of a phone so I exchanged for the Atrix. When the phone arrived I knew two seconds after it booted that I hated the phone. It felt cheap, it was tiny, and Motoblur reminded me too much of TouchWiz - which is a shame because the guts of the phone should have made it a monster but Moto has a long way to go with their Motoblur. Within 2 hours of getting the Atrix I took it back.
So, I am on my third Inspire and so far so good. No missed calls, dropped calls, texts, no reboots, no locks, no problems at all. Right now I am rooted running the stock rom. I have tried a few different roms - RCMiXHD_v5X, LeeDroid_HD v2.2.2, and Android Revolution 4G. I had GPS issues with LeeDroid and Revolution and data problems with RCMiXHD. The phone has performed pretty dang good with root+Stock so I will probably keep it that way. Hopefully a GB version will drop soon because I do like the extra features that brings.
Anyway, thats just my experience.
This thread is getting some good information placed in it, and a good OP as well.
My recommendation is that you follow the hack kit, but stick to ROMs based off of the Stock Inspire ROM for now. As much as I enjoy a UV/OC kernal, I can't say it's making a huge impact in my day-to-day use of this phone. I'm running AR 3.2, without any issues right now on the stock inspire radio, but my next flash will probably be a ROM like ClearDroid.
I also wish we had an easy stock backup procedure, but as far as i know we're stuck with the reflash + s-off combo.
As a side note: Where the heck did DG come from?! It's good to see you popping your head in here. I started with your Super-rooter and lived on Cognition and Perception for my Captivate.

Im not sure which rom was the culprit, I dont want to bad mouth anyones work as it could of just been my doing and I definitely appreciate the hard work and effort the devs put in. But I did experience a few issues trying the revolution rom, I tried different versions. But I also tried several other roms so I cant really pinpoint. I know I like the revolution but would have to leave it because of issues, I kept trying though.
I cant really recall as battery life hasnt been a huge issue for me on the inspire, but for everyone that has rooted their phone, would you say battery life improved or worsened? I'm probably going to root later on tonight.
Oh and why no 'one click' root/unroot scripts for the Inspire yet? Just wondering, because even the atrix had a one click root script.

Yeah I meant more of a legit release not a leaked version. I have tried RCMix and Adroid Revolution and had issues with both. Nothing major but enough for me to go back to stock.
I'm having an oposite dilemma.. I first bought the Atrix and then after i noticed a little lag when unlocking the device i bought the Inspire.. I had the Atrix for 2 weeks and i have had the Inspire for 1 week.
What i have noticed about the Inspire is that when I try to open a .doc file thats only 62kb large, its not nearly as smooth as the Atrix with the scrolling and double tapping to zoom in. I dont know why this is... 62kb is pretty small. When i had the Atrix, it opened the same file super fast and there was no lag at all..
Also, with websites like adultswim and phonedog which has a lot of flash, the Inspire lags quite a bit compared to the Atrix which has little to no lag.
Im very tempted to go back to the Atrix and just live with the little bit of lag when unlocking.. IDK what i should do..

Well good luck in your decision. I dont doubt the Atrix was a tad faster at some things left stock, but that wasnt a main concern for me as I know on the Inspire a rom here a kernel there can remedy that.
I've actually opened .doc and .xls files close to that size on a daily basis with no real lag issue. Then again I'm using Documents To Go, app I used from my Blackberry days. Works pretty smoothly.

Though the Inspire is able the flash roms ....Atrix is by far a better phone. I've played with cousins Inspire, it doesn't compare to my Atrix

I m running the rooted stock rom self-cleaned from the ATT bloat with TiBU in chuck norris mode... No problem with my GPS, no problem with the reception... battery life around one day of pretty intensive use... I notice altough I m not having issues as i mentioned the signal's strength displayed is always pretty low (2/3 on 5)...
I tried ClearDroid but since it was pretty much the same as my 'self-purified' stock i just got back to it...
I don't think the reception's issue was related to the rooting itself... some device is just kinda defective from factory...
In the end it boils down to personal preferences.
I had both and got rid of the Atrix for the Inspire because of screen size and its speedy as is out the box. Don't really see the need for a Dual CoreS unless I'm gonna shell out more cash for the laptop Which I see is pointless since I might as well lug around my Vaio i7. In the end I'm happy with the Inspires build quality and performance.

It depends on your needs/preferences. Specs wise, yes the Atrix might be better but the Atrix does have its issues as well which irked me enough to come back to the Inspire which I liked so much I'm willing to give it a second try. One thing is for sure, I cant see myself getting another Motorola device anytime soon. Been there a few times, and had bad experiences with their locked devices. HTC has been the better experience for me so far and I'm enjoying the Inspire more than I did the Atrix.
Very true about preference...I like the Inspire's size wouldn't want to go bigger. Many hate motor for locking down the BL....but it seems like HTC will be doing the same on future devices

I upgraded from the captivate and I still own two captivates ( wifes and sons ) and every time I play around the captivates I am so glad I got the Inspire. I still believe the Captivate is an awesome phone but the Inspire definitely blows the captivate away and I could never go back lol
So even though I already made a long story lol yes its an awesome phone and in my opinion you will not regret it
Don't know if you know him, but I just got Adamholden developer of Phoenix, Supernova etc an HTC Inspire and he should be receiving it on Monday and will begin developing Phoenix on the Inspire. Just another good reason to get one lol

to be honest, i don't see it being worth using an upgrade for. If you have the 5$ monthly insurance, i would pay 125 bucks and have them send you an Inspire instead of a Captivate. Or buy a Inspire off craigslist. I guess thats just me. If i'm going to use an update, i want to know i'm making a good decision. In the future, i may even use updates for iphones and just resell them. At least you know you are getting the most money from your update
I sold my Captivate for 260 and bought my Inspire for 69 and haven't looked back. Loving it. Great to see you here too, Kizz. Remember you from Adams threads, which made the Captivated somewhat bearable. I've noticed DesignGears in here too, recently. Maybe Cognition for Inspire?

Actually, I am VERY familiar with Adam's work. I have been onboard with the Phoenix ROMS since 3.5. I've also used all the Supernova's. Hell, I even tried Fusion. I saw where you said that you were getting him an Inspire. That alone realllllly makes me want to go that route. The only thing that has kept me with the Cappy is the work that he does. I just wanna say that you guys do GREAT work and make our wives crazy and our phones amazing. Thank you!!!!

Yeah the 4G stuff was bs but I knew that going in and wasn't one of my reasons to get it as for resolution, play with inspire for a week or two and then play with the cappy. I can't stand playing on the cappy now just because, one its so slow compared to the inspire and I love the inspires resolution. It took me a bit to feel that way. I actually felt the same way you did . Almost took it back the first week cause of what you just posted lol and battery life . But again after a week of charging my inspire actually last just as long or longer than my cappy did.

Lol agreed , but looks like there working on the speeds now . Supposed to be this month sometime actually. Some have already seen the speed improvements . I don't blame you for being upset about the data speeds. Like I said I knew that going in. I was fine with the same speeds I had with the cappy.
Sent From My HTC Inspire 4G | [ROM] CoreDroid HD v5.0 GingerBread 2.3.3
The Cappy was definitely a great device and there are still things I miss from the device. The Screen, Easy Rooting Process, TW is not as intrusive as Sense. The abundant amount of Memory. 16gb on the Cappy and 8 on the inspire. I sold my Cappy on Craigs List. Bought Inspire from Craig too. Saving that Upgrade may try Verizon. AT&T locking out non market apps is bad too.
But moving on to the Inspire I have loved the Spot on GPS. Sense is a little heavy but I can live with it. HTC makes solid devices and I am sure we will get an update to 2.3 sometime. I still think the camera on the Cappy is better but I still like the Flash the Inspire has. The Inspire will be worth the upgrade but waiting for the new devices that are coming will be a good Idea too.
Speeds on both devices are good and on par with each other.
I recently came from a captivate. Overall, imo, the inspire is a better device. However, there are a couple of points where the captivate wins...screen resolution, speaker, slim design, more internal storage, and easy rooting. It all depends on what's more important to you.

screen resolution is the same on the captivate/inspire.
Put the inspire and cappy side by side, look at the screens and tell me they are the same...if you honestly think that, you need to have your eyes checked. Cappy screen is crisper and more brilliant.

Hello.
I currently have an X2 that I am moving away from. I do not want to upgrade my contact at this time, so I will be turning to 3rd party vendors to purchse a different phone.
The HTC Thunderbolt has my attention, however I recall this phone being plagued with problems since launch.
Now that we are 6 months removed, how has this phone faired? Have all the bugs/kinks been worked out?
My wife has an Incredible 2 and I always say I wish I had went with HTC over my Droid x2.
Please share your thoughts on the current state of the Thunderbolt!
It is awful. If you buy it you will probably cry your self to sleep every night.
But if you really want one you can bet the market will be flooded with them as soon as the trinity of phones is released (the Galaxy Nexus, the HTC Rezound, the Moto Droid Razor)
I know I will be returning mine to Best Buy since I future proofed it when I bought it from there.
Just my opinion though.

its not TERRIBLE..
but there are certainly better phones out there.
primary problem is the battery life.but if you are always near a charger, this is a non-issue.
i, for one, can't wait to get rid of my tbolt when the nexus is released.
Plagued with problems? The only problem I've ever have is the battery life but its to be expected with 4G LTE. Its a very solid phone all around
Being my city isn't mapped for 4G LTE till 2013, does this make a difference in terms of battery life, or does the phone still use the same juice with a 3g signal?

Will make a significant difference in battery life running 3g, uses far less juice running 3g.
I'm actually on the newest unrooted ruu, and there are honestly no problems. Phone rubs fast as ever, always get signal, battery life is even better.

I would suggest waiting until the beginning of November. 3 new phones are scheduled for the 10th & aroind that time people with Thunderbolts, Bionics, etc will try to get rid of them to move up & you'll be able to price haggle with them good.
Good advice - I will wait till then!
The TBOLT is not a bad phone at all, but I would wait and check some of the new ones coming out.
But honestly I do not understand why so many people down the tbolt, mine has been a super solid and great phone and I have no need or desire for anything else right now.
With extended battery, I have no issues at all. Fast, reliable and solid.

not to mention the Tbolt is indestructible(so long as the screen doesn't get hit). i got pissed one night while i was driving and threw it out the window. i stopped and went back to get it and it had some scratches on it but was still working perfectly.
although if it's anything like the HD2, don't let even the slightest drop of water anywhere near it.
The phone itself is a hell of a lot better than a good deal of what HTC has put out before. The software has been the only real problem and that's been almost completely worked out. I'm not sure there's any outstanding issues with functionality and reliability. An extra power-sucking core that's identical to the one in the Tbolt doesn't turn me on enough to be tempted to upgrade. I don't know anyone who's disappointed with it.
Personally I love my bolt and I'm not super worried about the uh "trinity" lol. The bionic was supposed to be this amazing phone but I saw one and frankly I would rather have my old bolt.
My name is Revos I'm a recovering flashaholic running Liquid Gingerbread 3.0
Ignore the Naysayers... It's a great phone. Rooted.. Mine is smooth as butter. Battery is not an issue of you plan right. I put my stock battery back in (with extended to fall back on). Lte is stinkin awesome. The screen (when not in direct sun) is perfectly acceptable.
Unrooted? Well, I can't tell you.. It's been too long. I rooted because I was tired of waiting for GB and the bloatware.

I am on 3g only. Don't even have my 4g radio on. With a Sense rom I get about 6 hours of medium use.
Milage may differ. I guess you should consider my opinion as biased bc I don't like Sense at all. Why did I buy HTC? I don't know?!

If I had an upgrade coming up I'd seriously consider the tbolt. 4g phone for $100 & a extended battery, sign me up. Seems that all the bugs are finally worked out & with GB finally close, it's a good deal.
This coming from a guy that had 3 bolts in 5 months. For what it can do & the price, its almost too good to pass up.

It's an amazing phone for the price. I'm running a BAMF GB sense 3.0 ROM and I spend most of the day checking on the forums or messaging my girlfriend, although a lot is on WiFi. On BAMF Forever I pull 30 hours on extended battery. And that's not with anything disabled that I use. I won't handicap a feature just for battery life.
It's insanely durable hardware wise as someone mentioned. And the developer support for it is rest good. It's a very nice time to purchase the Thunderbolt as well as a lot of people are getting ready to sell to go to the new rezound, formerly called Vigor, because it was hyped early on as the Thunderbolt 2.

X2- just root it and customize to your liking. New to the Bolt, but only issue I have is battery life. But from all I hear, common issue with 4g devices. Got Verizon to throw in extended battery with purchase, just haven't installed yet, looking into "slim" extended battery.

I hate to say it but through the past year I've seen this thread explode then burn fizzle and slowly die.
There hasn't been any "new" development for this phone since mid year and it doesn't look like we will ever get gingerbread or any real interest in this phone from any hardcore developers. T-Mobile failed in ressurecting the sidekick imho it started off good but it quickly became a novelty and they just brushed it under the carpet. Even going so far as to not do exchanges on devices with known problems.
I love the sidekick line for the design of the phone and the full keyboard and basic reliability of the design. For those who don't know the company who designed and built the original sidekick phones "Sharp" came out with a new phone on at&t that looks similar to the older sidekick designs. Its also touch screen and has android. I havnt really looked at the specs on it tho. Just know it exists.
For now ill use this phone till it falls apart only because I can't afford a new one and T-Mobile has me by the balls on contract :-/ untill there's some kind of breakthrough with this phone I think I'm done posting on here till I get my next android device.
Id like to thank those who deserve it for helping me and the community

The sidekick was my first android phone an I am sad that more devs haven't seen this phone as the new G1 but at the same time i'm happy with the devs we have that are trying to learn new things an make better roms for our phones. I myself am also on contract with tmobile so it will be a while before i can upgrade my sidekick for another phone (maybe a galaxy note even if it means no 3g or 4g) Currently for stability i've been using a spare xperia x10 mini pro (loaded with miniCMpro an phone cost me $125 after shipping) an its a breath of fresh air not having the phone reboot at random or fcing in the background without showing whats going wrong though i do miss having least 2g speeds (running on edge on this phone) but I do hope one day the devs we have or a new one finds a way to bring our phone from being a unloved child to being a phone to be desired
hey
yea i got rid of my sidekick 4g i have a galaxy s device now and im loveing it the way i did was called tmobile and demanded that i speak to the loyalty department and demanded a new phone because of the issues or i was leaving and they basically gave me a 600 dollar phone for 99.99 dollars 50 rebate and theirs a lot of dev going on for this phone that i got now you can take the warranty route and exchange your device three times than get another device free its called warranty exchange and since its a 4g phone you have the option of getting another 4g phone but they choose it for u its overnight shipping so you basically HAVE to have insurrance in order for it to be 5 bucks with each exchange or otherwise you pay 20 bucks for each exchange without insurrance if it all works out go to gazelle.com and sell your sidekick they gave me 80 for it

I must admit though, I do feel that the earth stopped rotating for a moment upon this announcement. hehehe

While development and upgrades to Gingerbread may be non-existant (for now), the users on this community have brought out the best in my phone. I had the same outlook as you did soon after buying this phone and seeing that there wasn't a) A gingerbread update already available (seeing as how the phone was released in March and I got mine last month), and b) It didn't look like Gingerbread or ICS weren't going to be available anytime in the near future. Even with Fryo this phone still has a lot to offer. Revolution's ICS Domination ROM gave my phone new life and a new modem brought my down/up speeds up exponentialy.
I have hope that eventually we will see a Gingerbread update (or even ICS) since this phones specs aren't too differnt from that of the Nexus S. But if not, I'm still glad I chose to get a Sidekick one last time.
I'm giving up too we just gotta wait the devs got our bacl!

Once again I look on xda and find a small amount of dev work being done I'm glad people still are holding on to this device. It makes me happy. I came back after this post for a brief time because of new roms but wound up going back to an older rom after difficulties. I know most of you left here are new to this device but I wanted to let everyone know once again I'm leaving my sk4g. I will be moving to the HTC Amaze 4g forums one of my good friends got a new rezound and let me have her amaze for free ^_^ once I root it I will be switching my daily driver to that. I hope to see this phone someday get the respect it should have from the inital release. Thank you to all devs who prooved that this phone wasn't just a little toy for text addicted teens and actually could have been brought to greatness if it weren't for t-mobile dropping support. Also if we ever get gingerbread, ice cream sandwich or jellybean to run on the sk4g would someone please pm me and let me know I would love to see it ^_^ untill then goodbye all and once again a big thanx to all the devs who keep this section of xda from going into the inactive threads pile with all other discontinued phones ^_^

No problem. I myself have switched DD's, but still support this phone highly. Regardless, I wish you the best of luck. The SGSII is an amazing phone, and I hope the Amaze4G is just as well. If you're finally done with the SK4G, you could look into sending it do bhundven as he is a recognized developer as such I'm sure he can do wonderful things and teach us things we never knew. After he's done creating and testing and he gets his own (soon) he will send it back. Please get in contact with him.
If I at any point decide to leave the SK4G (which isn't in my immediate future but who knows) I will send it to the developer who DOES NOT have one or is not capable of getting one -- to keep.

TLS, that was very nice to ask that! If azcledel feels that he does not want to "give up" his sk4g, but instead loan it to me for 2 weeks, I would be happy to pay shipping to and from me.
The device would be returned in the same condition as I received it.

I would gladly if you were to pay shipping (I'm a broke ass college student with no job) haha. You ARE a recognized developer. I trust you.
PM me on here if you're up for it. I'm going to be at college nearly all day so I won't be able to even send it at least until tomorrow. (My day off).
I will concider sending it once I get access to a pc to root my amaze but I'm not sure I want to give it up yet the amaze is a dual core running a fresh stock ics 4.0.3 with sense 3.6 it all depends on what I can do to it and how I like it. Woah! Don't sell the Amaze 4G, it's..well...amazing! But yeah, just because it's 4.0.3 doesn't mean anything. You can find stable builds of 4.0.4 and 4.1.1 with Sense UI removed -- (if you want it that way) I got my GS II and like, 3 days later 4.0.4 officially came out with a newer radio too. But yeah, I understand the feeling of not wanting to consider dropping the SK4G in anyway (after all, it was and is my first Android smartphone and the first for which I've maintained a ROM for...) regardless, I'll admit to only buying the phone for 2 reasons...I was a teenager when the Sidekick was BOOMING around middle school and high school, and the price was so damn budget I had to get it.
Well so far I'm digging the amaze still hate not having a 5 row physical keyboard but the dev teams seem pretty informed we have ppl working on porting cyanogen mod 10 and jellybean. Right now I'm running a Rom with 4.0.3 had one running 4.0.4 but had problems sending/RECEIVING mms so I SWITCHED back. What's the point of comparing QWERTY Sidekick with a typical touchphone?.. There are over 9000 of them, many with JB.
I am thinking of buying my friends inspire off him and wondered how it is?
How is battery life?
What is the best rom? Is sense 3.5 any good? Never had a sense phone.
I noticed with the roms you have to have s-off? What is that and how is it done?
My biggest concern is the sense music player "iPod ish" in behavior?
Code:
I am thinking of buying my friends inspire off him and wondered how it is?
I really like mine. I mean, it's not some uber powerful phone that rules them all or anything, but it's higher up in the chain.
Code:
How is battery life?
Battery life is pretty decent, but it really depends on the usage. Screen brightness, playing games, how much you text/call, if you have data, gps, and sync on all the time; just regular smartphone stuff.
Code:
What is the best rom? Is sense 3.5 any good? Never had a sense phone.
There isn't really a "best rom", it's a matter of preference. You can get a stable 2.3.5 rom, such as Android Revolution, or an alpha release of an ICS rom (there are a few, just check the Android Development section.) I really enjoyed the CM7 mod because of the performance and stability; but I had an aosp ICS rom that was just wonderful, but pretty unstable. If you can deal with instability, get an ICS rom for sure.
Sense is really really nice (IMO). But again, it's all preference.
Code:
I noticed with the roms you have to have s-off? What is that and how is it done?
S-off means the phone security is off, and you can flash roms and have root. You get s-off when you root.
NOTE: I'm not a root-master by any means, so I could probably be wrong on that. Please don't take my word for it.
Code:
My biggest concern is the sense music player "iPod ish" in behavior?
You can get a third party music player. I really like PowerAmp, would recommend that, or WinAmp.
U should go to YouTube and type in inspire review and read comments. I always do that before purchasing a new phone.

Battery Life, 3+ hours with the screen on 100% like watching videos and games, 6 hours
of talk time, about 24 hours of standby time, but thats with a new battery, and taking
steps to improve battery life.
I have only tried a few ROMs, the three I like are:
Android Revolution HD - looks pretty, runs like a stock rom but tweaked
CoreDroid HD - Seams a little more tweaked in some areas, has a lot of good stuff built-in
BlackICE - Good battery life, no extra junk, CyanogenMod based
Like others have said, you are just going to have to try a few ROMs and see what you like,
I will say that with the Sense ROMS I ended up using scrips to remove a lot of stuff in my
effort to save on battery life, thats why I settled on a CyanogenMod based ROM.
Battery Life
This was my first non-Blackberry phone and I was completely disappointed. If I leave my phone at work on my desk, checking a few emails, texts, etc, I will run out of battery by the end of the day. I noticed that Facebook app was sometimes using 15% of the battery life. Deleting that helped. Also when I installed ICS the battery seems to have improved slightly.
Rom
Completely new to Roms but I installed one on here by existz. Google for AOSPX since I can't post links yet.
It's basically as close as you can get to the plain ol' ICS. Since his newest version has been coming out I've had virtually no issues. Was never really a fan of Sense. Some of the HTC stuff is nice, but I've always been a fan of less.
Phone
The phone is heavy. Which kind of gives it a sturdy feel, but it hasn't been in my experience. The added weight means if you drop it, it will hit with some force. I learned the hard way when the screen shattered completely from a 3 foot drop. Haven't had any issues since I got a gel skin for it though.
The inspire was my first android, after being an iPhone owner, I was quite happy to change.
I can't comment from experience but I like this phone a lot. I've also been using existz from and its awesome. Rooting the inspire is super easy.
The battery life isn't great, but I have chargers every where; home, car and work managing the phones resources helps, like turning off wifi, data, by, and GPS when not using them.
I don't think you can go wrong with the inspire for free or for cheap.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA
The Inspire is a nice phone to have due to its big screen. I've had it for 6 months already and i can't complain I recently rooted my phone to Rcmix3d 4.0 and it works even better
I've had mine for a little less than a year and have had no major issues. I switched from a Blackberry and this is a drastic improvement.
I wouldn't get to hung up on the ROM since it is extremely easy to root and flash a new ROM. I rooted mine a few weeks ago and flashed ICS (Redemption) to it and it works great.
It is easy to find music apps so I wouldn't stress about that either.
Battery life is decent but it does decrease over time. It may be worth investing in a new one if it is really bad.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA
I have had my inspire for almost a year and a half and its a great phone. I was slightly disappointed with the battery, but I always Cary a charger with me. It is deffanately a rugged phone. My frient bought one and stoped it down a flight of stairs without a case or screen protector and it came through with minor scraches, he also lives his inspire and after having nothing but iPhones he absolutely loves it. Oh, BTW the best Rom I have found is one called Virtuous Affinity, it is a mod of RCMix, and it is more stable. Overall the inspire is a great, reliable phone.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA
I say get one dude, I have a iphone for regular use and the inspire for work, has not failed me yet. The battery life is excellent atleast for me, I do not use it really heavy so I get good battery life
Get one, it's a very good phone, battery sucks, but it is all together a very sound phone. Rooting it was a snap (did my first root ever, last week, woot woot!) And I got to say that I don't know why I didn't do it sooner! Right now I am running CM7, I have flashed a few other ones, but I have come to find the stability of this ROM is phenomenal, awesome work by the Cyan Mod team! I still have a lot to learn about the full capabilities of root, but if you're looking for a starter Android, this is the way to go.

I like mine. I bought it last July and have been using it since. I shattered the digitizer in Nov but bought a replacement from ebay for about $50. The phone still works great. I have AOSPx on it and it is very smooth.

Do it.. I came from a Samsung captivate. My plan wasn't due for an upgrade yet so I managed to get an old new old stock inspire off craigslist.. so totally love this phone. Just root it and play with some roms. I've used cm7 which I wasn't very fond of leedroid which I loved, coredroid which was meh ok, cleatdroid which was good but now I'm using virtouos affinity which I'm really liking..

i love mine. never ever have any problem with it. i love the fact that its highly supported with alot of new roms, so i have a tons of choice to install to the phone: from basic clean GB rom, to ICS with sense, now i can even have my inspire with Samsung Galaxy s3 theme how nice that is. the only thing i wish the phone could have is front camera.
Go for it bro, root it, enjoy the features of rooting
