Juice Defender and Juice Defender Plus doesn't seem to turn Wi-fi back on when I return to the house, unless I turn it back on manually. I had to disable JD. Anyone else had this problem or using a different battery ap that works?
Yeah I've had this same problem. I just manually turn it back on. Doesn't bother me much. It is a price to pay to save some juice.

I use juice defender also. Haven't noticed the wifi issue. Battery drain is my only complaint so far also. Other wise really love the phone. Maybe someone will come out with a stronger battery for it.
im going 16 hours on a full charge thanks to juice defender ultimate. battery life extended to 2.5x normal.
i use y5 on top of juice defender and wifi usually goes off and on as it should.
So this phone has a 2g toggle?

So ever since I first bought the G2x, I've always had juice defender a part of it. Now having done a factory reset, since May (when I got the phone) and not installing juice defender, it seems that I get the same if not better battery life without juice defender installed. Could juice defender just be adding to the battery drainage also?
Yea, I am in the same camp. Juice Defender really has done nothing way too much tweaking it. I have to say its like all of the purge from memory apps...you mileage might vary, but for me they aren't really helpful.
It seems to me that juice defender might be good for over-night, or for situations when I'm not going to be checking my phone for hours. Otherwise, the radio keeps getting turned on and off...on and off...everytime I wake the screen to text or something...that's in addition, of course, to the regularly scheduled times that it does it on its own.
But then again, instead of having it running all the time, I could probably get the same effect if I just went to airplane mode overnight.
Interesting point, OP...and gave me something to think about.
I'm gonna test that today, yesterday I got 15 hours with it on and set CPU profiles today ill turn off juice defender ultimate, ill keep u guys updated.

Yeah, I tested this week. Ifound no noticeable impact of juice except maybe overnight. During the day, and no impact, and perhaps even a negative impact.
I just manually toggle data off at night anyway.
There is really no reason to ever use juice defender when Tasker exists. It can do everything JD does and SO much more.
After testing pretty much every setting I could think of, the only things that made a significant difference is disabling data and GPS. I set up a screen off = data off, screen on = data on set and battery life WAS improved. However, I use Google Voice for all my texting, so I had to have some data, so I tried the same thing but reducing to just 2g and no improvement was noticed.
Keeping GPS off permanently but allowing it to run specifically on applications that need it helps too. Note that this is not possible on gingerbread except for CM7 and ROMs built off of CM's source. I imagine toggling bluetooth and/or WiFi would influence things too, but I never use either. No other setting resulted in a significant improvement in battery life.
Note that during all of these tests, I kept screen brightness to 18%, toggling to 25% when in direct sunlight and 0% in the dark. As for airplane mode at night; I plug the phone in at night and unplug when I wake up so this is a nonissue for me but AM is the best you will ever see your battery life without using things that require root.
And, of course, underclocking to minimum when screen is off improves more than everything else combined. Kernels and clock speeds matter far more than things like GPS or data connection.
Well I'm through testing today I got 11hrs and 18 min without juice defender compared to 15hr with it yesterday, and I used my phone less today, so juice defender gave me about 4 more hours, tomorrow I'm gonna use juice defender and 2g.

I don't use any battery management apps, I do use android assistant to close apps every once in a while
Yesterday with juicedefender set CPU profiles and 2g I got 20hrs battery life.

Oddly enough, the free version seemed to work better that the paid version. A lot of the time wifi and 4G will stay on even when not using the phone, and I have to manually turn off/on wifi depending on the situation. As stated, it does help when not using your phone for a while, but I'm no pro at it or anything, could be the settings.
Looking for a good battery saver anyone knows one? For inspire 4g
I think Juice Defender works fine and its free. It does its job of killing the mobile data when the screen is off.
Yea I use that already but it seems like my battery still be dying kinda to fast.
Juicedefender +1
+1 juice defender
if you have the money for it, buy juice defender ultimate bc u can customize the settings
honestly, I started out using a task killer and a few other apps, and too didn't see much benefit...
biggest thing that helped me was autostarts...but you'll need to learn how to root your phone...
not only will it help you take control over all the crap that runs in the background, but give you good insight as to how often things start up, for what looks like no really good reason.
between that... I only have 4 home screens and try not to have too many widgets that auto update...
also...no sure about your phone, but my vibrant had the wifi calling app on it, and that thing was a resource hog...~20% battery usage on avg...had to forcefully yank that one from my phone...
good luck
All 'smartphones' barely last a day under heavy use.
There is no magic app that will change that.
Turn off wifi + data and use it only to call or write sms and you will get 2-3 days maybe.
Juice Defender definitively. You'll not find out there better than that. If it's not enough for your usage, you should buy a spare battery and switch between them
Defender or more simple..
Juice Defender best. but sometimes, it can be confuse for newbie. Then you should try Deamon Controller, it is simple. You adjust wake and sleep Mhz of cpu, that's it. Don't forget Wifi, gps, data, bluetooth, sync etc. switch-off.. good luck..
juice defender is definitely the best. some say it kills the battery more than it maintains it. but a good app to use for sure!
No, battery saving apps are a joke.
Install BetterBatteryStats and take a look at your wakelocks. See what's killing your battery. Don't install a battery draining app to help save the battery... makes no sense.
Look into lowering your Wifi TxPower if you enable Wifi alot. Look for guides and tips, there's plenty out there.
I went from 7% loss overnight to about 4% after locating and removing evil apps and installing alternatives.
which battery saving app is good for i9000?
Does it actually work? Or does it work like as task manager killer, known to drain battery even more??

Its works good. There's a feature that turns off the radio when tthe screen is off. Works great

some will swear by juice defender, but from my personal usage of it i just got less battery from it.
I do use automateit though to turn off my data when the screen is off, and to turn data on when the screen is on. what i like about automateit is that it used less resources (at least according to watchdog lite) than juice defender. Also, it has the options to set a timelimit for the rules (an example would be to turn data off after 5 minutes of the screen being off).
Using automateit my battery went from 13 of light use to 17 hours of medium use (i read alot through pulse newsreader) and 48 hours when its light use (checking the time here and there at work). When doing both i tend to average at around 23 hours.
Best thing to do though is just to test juice defender and automateit on your device because your usage differs from everyone elses. (though use watchdog lite! cpu cycle watching is you best friend for getting better battery imo!)
thanks for the responses~
JD works. I prefer Green Power, though.
i use juice defender ultimate and i love it. it turns on/off radios on a schedule if you want, and even uses wifi when you're in certain areas (via cell tower association). i get decent life without it on gingerbeast (15-20 hours usu) but with it, ive gotten over 30 with regular use.
like was mentioned above, try them all out. automateit sounds good and is probably a lot lighter than juice defender but JD has a LOT of capabilities so don't just pass over it because it's a big app...look through all the advanced features and give it a fair shot. it tells you how much it's affected your battery life by and i'm almost always at double battery life thanks to the app
I used Juice Defender on my Vibrant and it seemed to help quite a bit. However, on the Sensation, because it is running gingerbread, I have read mixed reviews. Some say it helps, some say it doesn't. I'd like to know your experience with this or other batter saving apps!

If nothing, it starts/stops mobile data when you turn the screen on/off. That on its own is a huge battery saver. It also turns wifi off when it's out of range, and mobile data off when you have wifi.
These things obviously increase battery life, no question about it. Of course, if you never have mobile data on, and don't want to have it on, there is no point to having juice defender
I find that it perpetually signs me out of Gtalk
Hmm. I was debating whether to get the elite version on the market as it seems to have a lot of extra features. I didn't know there were mixed reviews with gingerbread. Thanks.

I get an issue with juice defender where after I've turned the screen back on there is still not mobile internet connection.
I have to manually put the phone into flight mode and back to get a connection, and sometimes even need to reboot.
I got pretty much the same advantage as JD without the hassle by just enabling 'Power Efficiency' in the 'Power' menu in the settings. It turns off background data like JD and allowed me to go a full day with fairly high usage and still have 30% at 8pm.
N.B. - Having background data off means your widgets and mail won't sync as often so I put a 'Sync all' widget on one of my homescreens so that when I wanted an update then I could pull everything down at once.
Hope this helps
I've been using juice defender but I think I will try your suggestion for a couple days and see if it makes a difference. Thanks!
If you check the "always allow mobile internet" button in your wireless settings will give you a good compromise between stock and how juice defender constantly kills the data connection. That setting for me is good for an extra 20-25% a day. Only thing I notice differently is emails may take a minute or two to arrive and Gtalk is signed out when I don't have the phone active.
Juice defender will just manage your apps, settings to save battery.. just to regulate your battery..
I am using Juice defender and it's saying 1.61x now, the battery last about 3 days(I am not a heavy user) but before that it didn't so I found it to be quite helpful
yeh me too... from 8 hours to 10 hours with juice defender..
Hi,
I've been playing with Juice Defender (free version on Balanced Profile) as well as Tasker. As far as I can see JD is more or less disabling the wifi and mobile data when it's not needed. I will say I've noticed an improvement in battery life with the free version of JD in balanced mode.
On the other side, I just recently turned off JD to try out Tasker. Right now I have Tasker turning off the mobile data and wifi when the screen is turned off then while the screen is still off Tasker turns on the wifi and mobile data every 30 min, and keeps it on for 5 min, then turns it back off again. and the last step is that Tasker will turn on wifi and mobile data when a user unlocks the screen.
So my question is - which one is better at saving battery? In my Better Battery Stats it seems that JD is not turning the wifi and mobile data off, rather just disconnecting wifi. Additionally with Tasker it seems in BBS I now have a "connectivityservice" that seems to have increased its battery usage (not always on/connected).
Thoughts?

OK you didn't mention how battery life improve with Tasker. See you could have easily got the results yourself as you already did half the work with juice defender. You just have to do the same with Tasker and compare the two.
Well the jury is still out on battery life with Tasker...I guess I was more wondering if anyone knew if that's all JD did (turn off wifi/mobile data). If that's the case then I'd assume Tasker would have similar effects on the battery...and since Tasker can do so much more, I'd probably buy that instead of the higher levels of JD.
So perhaps that's a better way to word my question.
Well the free version of DS battery saver does more as it closes all apps running in the background. Combine that with Greenify and you will see improvement in battery life.
also going to vouch for DS battery saver. ive seen many post good results with it.
I only turn data and wifi on when i use them though so im not too familiar with it.
I found I have better life with Llama, than I do with juice defender... And I used the paid version, tweaked to the hilt.
I have been using juice defender ultimate for almost a year and can say it was the best 4 or 5 bucks I could have spent. With the ultimate you have more options. I am usually up between 5 and 6 ever morning and unless I am making a ton of phone calls I can make it until 8 or 9 every night.
