Anyone know the best battery saver that really works good? - General Questions and Answers

Looking for a good battery saver anyone knows one? For inspire 4g

I think Juice Defender works fine and its free. It does its job of killing the mobile data when the screen is off.

Yea I use that already but it seems like my battery still be dying kinda to fast.

Juicedefender +1

+1 juice defender
if you have the money for it, buy juice defender ultimate bc u can customize the settings

honestly, I started out using a task killer and a few other apps, and too didn't see much benefit...
biggest thing that helped me was autostarts...but you'll need to learn how to root your phone...
not only will it help you take control over all the crap that runs in the background, but give you good insight as to how often things start up, for what looks like no really good reason.
between that... I only have 4 home screens and try not to have too many widgets that auto update...
also...no sure about your phone, but my vibrant had the wifi calling app on it, and that thing was a resource hog...~20% battery usage on avg...had to forcefully yank that one from my phone...
good luck

All 'smartphones' barely last a day under heavy use.
There is no magic app that will change that.
Turn off wifi + data and use it only to call or write sms and you will get 2-3 days maybe.

Juice Defender definitively. You'll not find out there better than that. If it's not enough for your usage, you should buy a spare battery and switch between them

Defender or more simple..
Juice Defender best. but sometimes, it can be confuse for newbie. Then you should try Deamon Controller, it is simple. You adjust wake and sleep Mhz of cpu, that's it. Don't forget Wifi, gps, data, bluetooth, sync etc. switch-off.. good luck..

juice defender is definitely the best. some say it kills the battery more than it maintains it. but a good app to use for sure!

No, battery saving apps are a joke.
Install BetterBatteryStats and take a look at your wakelocks. See what's killing your battery. Don't install a battery draining app to help save the battery... makes no sense.
Look into lowering your Wifi TxPower if you enable Wifi alot. Look for guides and tips, there's plenty out there.
I went from 7% loss overnight to about 4% after locating and removing evil apps and installing alternatives.

which battery saving app is good for i9000?

Juice defender=placebo effect?

So ever since I first bought the G2x, I've always had juice defender a part of it. Now having done a factory reset, since May (when I got the phone) and not installing juice defender, it seems that I get the same if not better battery life without juice defender installed. Could juice defender just be adding to the battery drainage also?
Yea, I am in the same camp. Juice Defender really has done nothing way too much tweaking it. I have to say its like all of the purge from memory apps...you mileage might vary, but for me they aren't really helpful.
It seems to me that juice defender might be good for over-night, or for situations when I'm not going to be checking my phone for hours. Otherwise, the radio keeps getting turned on and off...on and off...everytime I wake the screen to text or something...that's in addition, of course, to the regularly scheduled times that it does it on its own.
But then again, instead of having it running all the time, I could probably get the same effect if I just went to airplane mode overnight.
Interesting point, OP...and gave me something to think about.
I'm gonna test that today, yesterday I got 15 hours with it on and set CPU profiles today ill turn off juice defender ultimate, ill keep u guys updated.

Yeah, I tested this week. Ifound no noticeable impact of juice except maybe overnight. During the day, and no impact, and perhaps even a negative impact.
I just manually toggle data off at night anyway.
There is really no reason to ever use juice defender when Tasker exists. It can do everything JD does and SO much more.
After testing pretty much every setting I could think of, the only things that made a significant difference is disabling data and GPS. I set up a screen off = data off, screen on = data on set and battery life WAS improved. However, I use Google Voice for all my texting, so I had to have some data, so I tried the same thing but reducing to just 2g and no improvement was noticed.
Keeping GPS off permanently but allowing it to run specifically on applications that need it helps too. Note that this is not possible on gingerbread except for CM7 and ROMs built off of CM's source. I imagine toggling bluetooth and/or WiFi would influence things too, but I never use either. No other setting resulted in a significant improvement in battery life.
Note that during all of these tests, I kept screen brightness to 18%, toggling to 25% when in direct sunlight and 0% in the dark. As for airplane mode at night; I plug the phone in at night and unplug when I wake up so this is a nonissue for me but AM is the best you will ever see your battery life without using things that require root.
And, of course, underclocking to minimum when screen is off improves more than everything else combined. Kernels and clock speeds matter far more than things like GPS or data connection.
Well I'm through testing today I got 11hrs and 18 min without juice defender compared to 15hr with it yesterday, and I used my phone less today, so juice defender gave me about 4 more hours, tomorrow I'm gonna use juice defender and 2g.

I don't use any battery management apps, I do use android assistant to close apps every once in a while
Yesterday with juicedefender set CPU profiles and 2g I got 20hrs battery life.

Oddly enough, the free version seemed to work better that the paid version. A lot of the time wifi and 4G will stay on even when not using the phone, and I have to manually turn off/on wifi depending on the situation. As stated, it does help when not using your phone for a while, but I'm no pro at it or anything, could be the settings.

What's the best battery saver for inspire 4g??

Anyone knows a good battery saver for inspire 4g?
The best battery safer is no safer. Turn off autosync, GPS, WIFI. Put push mail to long intervals, decrease the brightness of your screen. But the best safer is: Don't use the phone at all as a smartphone but as a 2G phone only

Oh come one! another app which is running in the background?
Yup. Works great too.
DONT use any battery saver apps or similar as all they will do is make ur phone run all laggy
Lol. Okay guys listen. All you die hard "don't install anything on your phone ever, because it will make it laggy people" need to really give it up.
Sure, you could save battery by turning off every single option then remembering to turn them back on when you need to use them. But why? Not every user is super hardcore as you guys. I guarantee 90% of users in here have the ability to charge their phones thru out the day, be it in a car or at work etc. I for one like the fact that with juice defender, I can walk into my house and my phone will automatically connect to wifi and shut my data off, without me having to do anything. I like the fact that I can stop my apps from randomly connecting and syncing when I don't want them to and will only do so when I physically open them. I like the fact I can make my phone auto sync itself when and where I want it too. I'm sure most people are the same. Sure it runs in the background but at what cost? A tiny bit of extra juice that is unnoticable to the average, if any, user. Get over yourself people, phones are a convenience why are you always trying to make it an inconvenience by having to remember to switch things on and off in order to save a few minutes of battery time. Unless you don't have access at all to any sort of charging thru out the day, then your options are slim. But I'm willing to bet that's a very small majority of people. There are other apps out there besides juicedefender too. Like tasker, except I don't feel like going back to college just to figure out how to use it.
Bottom line. If you're worried that much about lag and battery, then smart phones just aren't for you yet. Wait a few years then try back.
To the original poster. Get juicedefender and install it, it does help battery life in day to day usage and causes no lag at all.
This is all just my opinion and personal preference tho. Do with it as you will.

Juice Defender on Sensation yes or no?

I used Juice Defender on my Vibrant and it seemed to help quite a bit. However, on the Sensation, because it is running gingerbread, I have read mixed reviews. Some say it helps, some say it doesn't. I'd like to know your experience with this or other batter saving apps!

If nothing, it starts/stops mobile data when you turn the screen on/off. That on its own is a huge battery saver. It also turns wifi off when it's out of range, and mobile data off when you have wifi.
These things obviously increase battery life, no question about it. Of course, if you never have mobile data on, and don't want to have it on, there is no point to having juice defender
I find that it perpetually signs me out of Gtalk
Hmm. I was debating whether to get the elite version on the market as it seems to have a lot of extra features. I didn't know there were mixed reviews with gingerbread. Thanks.

I get an issue with juice defender where after I've turned the screen back on there is still not mobile internet connection.
I have to manually put the phone into flight mode and back to get a connection, and sometimes even need to reboot.
I got pretty much the same advantage as JD without the hassle by just enabling 'Power Efficiency' in the 'Power' menu in the settings. It turns off background data like JD and allowed me to go a full day with fairly high usage and still have 30% at 8pm.
N.B. - Having background data off means your widgets and mail won't sync as often so I put a 'Sync all' widget on one of my homescreens so that when I wanted an update then I could pull everything down at once.
Hope this helps
I've been using juice defender but I think I will try your suggestion for a couple days and see if it makes a difference. Thanks!
If you check the "always allow mobile internet" button in your wireless settings will give you a good compromise between stock and how juice defender constantly kills the data connection. That setting for me is good for an extra 20-25% a day. Only thing I notice differently is emails may take a minute or two to arrive and Gtalk is signed out when I don't have the phone active.
Juice defender will just manage your apps, settings to save battery.. just to regulate your battery..
I am using Juice defender and it's saying 1.61x now, the battery last about 3 days(I am not a heavy user) but before that it didn't so I found it to be quite helpful
yeh me too... from 8 hours to 10 hours with juice defender..

battery app

Sorry if this has been asked
I just got my g2x and the battery isn't that good like the mytouch 4g
So can someone suggest a good app to download. I currently only have app killer
It really isnt good to use task killers on phones because it can screw with the Roms and such, but a good app to use would be something like Juice Defender. Hope this helped!
So get rid of task killer and download juice defender. Is there a specific set up I should use. I don't want it to interfere with me getting calls or text messages

It comes with several presets. I use balanced, doesn't effect radio(I don't think any of them do), but one kool thing it does is stop data when your screen is off. That alone gave me a extra 3 to 4 hours, easy. It has a lot of kool other features to help. Advanced task killer- no noticeable difference. Juice defender- anywhere from 3 to 5 hours.

Unless you buy the premium version of Juice Defender there is no way to configure for individual apps. I though data off when the screen goes off would be great, but if you need your POP Email in a timely manner it does not work so well.
I have not used it in a while, so someone correct me if I am wrong.
I am going to try Autostarts from the Android market tonight and see if stopping all the runaway apps helps.

If you have the free version of JD (I do) you can set up your schedule so that JD automagically enables data every few minutes to sync background data. I have it set up as 30 minutes.
Click the "custom" setup in JD. You can also buy the premium version which will give you much more control in the settings dept.
OP,
Used to come from MT4G?? I'm getting WAYYYYYY better battery life compared to my previous MT4G, but maybe that's just me. (I also like the G2x WAYYYY better)
I am also coming from a Mytouch 4G and so far only tried out 1 MIUI rom and still new but got 8 and a half hours of really heavy use with 10% when I got home which I think is pretty good I like this phone much better and notice it's way more faster and less laggy only thing is personally it's not as sexy looking as my white Mytouch 4G was I actually think the design of this phone is kind of weird hoping it looks a little better with a nice case.
For Juice Defender, YMMV. I tried it and my battery life was worse compared to without it.
I admit to using Andro Task Killer. Unlike other task killers it doesn't kill system tasks. I tested it and it improves my battery life by 15%.
Also, install a good firewall like DroidWall and ruthlessly deny internet access to any application that does not depend upon it. This will save you lots of battery life.
Get SetCPU and set a profile to tune your CPU frequency to the minimum when your screen is off.
I use watchdog. When a rogue app gets over 30% cpu running in the background I close it. Helped me more than juice defender.

Little bit of advice... App killers are not that great because they will kill all apps and then all those apps will start again draining more battery than they would just quietly running in the background
I also recommend watchdog to kill apps one by one if u want and monitor rogue alps

Task killers don't work like that.
As I wrote, I did my own testing and the correct use of a Andro Task Killer extends my battery life by 15%.

Actually they do, take a stock rom, unrooted and use a task killer to kill the ton of garbage running then wait a couple of minutes and check back again, there will be at least a few of those killed apps running again, if not more, not to mention any background services that are supposed to be running that likely didn't get killed.
If excess apps running are draining battery life either uninstall some, or if they are stock apps then root+freeze, no more irritating apps running in the background to drain battery life.
Edit: Also, apps like ATK run in the background as well, draining battery life as well, on top of the apps trying to run. Similar with Juice Defender, it's always running, I noticed improvement not only in system performance but battery life after I uninstalled Juice Defender.
The only "batery saver" app that does anything is the one from AnTutu, but it underclocks your CPU and who knows what else, so even that is a double edge sword.

Look, why don't you run your own tests with Andro Task Killer? What you wrote is not completely accurate, and does not change the fact that I get 15% more battery life with my task killer, Period.
That is because some apps spawn background tasks that stay running after you close the app. These background tasks are made difficult to identify without using an advanced task manager like Elixir. They might use your data connection to send background data, or a poorly written app can keep your phone awake. Both ruins battery life.
I use jd ultimate being able to have your antennas off saves batteries period. Not to mention the hundreds of features to tweak it i get substantial battery savings with jd. I am unfortunatly against task killers... i use antek to just freeze the annoying apps instead of killing them over and over and keeping another uneccesary app running...
Making bad decision's one at a time.
Oh p.s. owning a g2x=bad battery life period.

Thanks

Battery saver apps

I really need a better battery life for my business phone. My last 3 androids have all had a 20% battery by 3pm....
All of the battery apps claim to turn off network when screen goes blank and so on... however I still have bars of service imidiately after turning screen on. Will I still receive phone calls?
Root your phone, under clock when screen off and manually turn off your interwebz...
Rooted MT3G XM-8 Even Moar Stripped with XDA Premium..
FB is one of the bad culprits. I generally use Autokiller on strict to tweak the Android process things and it works good.
Did you try Juice defender? It's the only one I've tried and works fine so far. My battery last 30% longer after using it, and it wasn't tweaked.
If you don't want the hassle of underclocking, then just go for apps like Green Power and Juice Defender. Set it to turn on every 15 minutes during the day and totally off during the night when you sleep; you'll be surprised how much time you can squeeze out of your battery.
You must use battery saver pro or juice defender and task killer
Okay, task killing apps randomly won't always improve your battery life, for an example, if you kill let's say a play on tv app which is a system app, you might end up wasting more battery as it re-starts.
Juice Defender
I can personally vouche for Juice Defender Ultimate. I love this app, it's always the first I install when I get a new phone. It's saved me at least 3 hours of battery per day. I have the extended battery upgrade on my HTC Rezound, and I used to be at around 30-40% after a day at school (somewhat heavy 4G use, like listening to Grooveshark, browsing the web frequently, etc). Now, with the same, if not more usage, I'm at close to 60% by the end of the day, and it lasts me usually until around 9 at night.
So, Juice Defender=awesomeness. And you're going to want the Ultimate version for extra settings, definitely worth it.
I personally found that Easy Battery Saver which is free on the market gives me the best battery life even better than JuiceDefender which I found hard to believe till I saw the results. My Motorola Atrix has really bad battery life usually only lasts me about 5 hours without the app but with the app it lasts up to 8 or so which is a pretty swell improvement if I say so myself.
I would also say that Juice Defender is a good app... saves quite alot of battery.
but all of the apps using data in the background (facebook etc.) are the battery life drainers
Use juice defender
I use Juice Defender myself. works fine. you can edit what you want on or off. Also memory killer works but you need root

I can second the votes for JuiceDefender - it's done wonders for me.
For the rest of your questions...
Even when an app is toggling your data connection for you it won't affect your cellular connection. You'll still see bars of service (though without a data indicator next to it like "3G" or "H").
You will also still receive phone calls and text messages as (again) your network service remains untouched. Emails or other data services will be delayed until the app enables data.
Try out Bataria. I really notice a difference using it.

it depends what version of android it has with 2.2 or higher i read that they manage memory pretty well so the task killers might actually take more battery rather than save it. If your Phone 4G you will save alot of battery by turning it to 3g and only turning on 4g when you need the speed

Task killers are never necessary on Android. Apps to manage and toggle data and radios are far more useful - and can be quite beneficial to your battery life.
