OK, with much research I found the answers to my own questions.
The hardware of the Wintec is the same as the ZTE V9 light minus the phone support
With that information you should be able to find all you need. There is a CM7 build for the device, a easy root using a modified version of Z4root, and overclock kernels available for the device.
Thanks for all the help,
Phil
P.S. I would post links and such but I am not allowed.

What about a custom recovery for this device? I've been searching everywhere but haven't found a thing.

That's cool but I really wish i could find more info for my tablet. mine isn't the light version with the 600mhz processor. it's the full version with the 1ghz processor. I would like to know which device mine would be a match for.

Yes I own a wintec light it is just a rebranded V9 light. In fact if you put cm7 on it and insert a att sim into the wintec you will get phone support but edge only data.

It's also got a magnetometer.
It also has a Flux Capacitor and a Hydrostatic Rejuvenator Switch but they are only used for time travel at this point and that is a feature that will be included in a future Jelly Bean release.

I am assuming you access through the micro usb OTG cable. Is there a way to get control of the JTAG signal though the USB and a special cable?
EDITED:
From the Hack Pack I cannot actually see any mention of JTAG connections on the block diagram. I have to assume no JTAG available on the nexus 7?

ODROID-U2 or GK802? Any thoughs?

Hi!
I have been using the MK802 as a basic netflix player, MX player and built in Chinese player work great, it tuns out the MK802 has a dedicated video decoder which actually decodes MKV 1080p files (no DTS because of the whole license thing sigh) but for anything other than movies, Its too slow. So I researched some stuff and found this developing board basically here is what I want to do
Run Netflix smoothly as well youtube, and maybe Comcast apps
Browse the web, stream music from my pc
http://www.hardkernel.com/renewal_2011/products/prdt_info.php
Exynos4412 Prime
2GBS of DDR3 Ram
I did some research and the benchmarks on the ODROIDU2 beat any board out there on benchmarks, however, I understand this is a developing board and not a consumer one. Doing more research, I came across the GK802
http://www.geekbuying.com/item/Unii...AM-8GB-ROM-TV-Box-Dongle----Black-312807.html
Freescale i.MX6 Quad Core CPU&GPU 1.2GHZ
1GB RAM + 8GB Flash
Android 4.0 OS (Android 4.1/4.2 upgradeable)
Support Full HD 1080P resolution play
True 1080P HD decoding the perfect hardware solution
Built in WiFi module 802.11b/g/n,max speed 150Mbs
Built-in Bluetooth makes you transport music ,data and listen to music freely
It seems the ODROIDU2 has problems doing HW acceleration and does it via software but the GK802 has fully HW acceleration decoding. I have yet to see any good reviews on both, anyway, which one do you guys recommend?
Thanks
Anyone?
Hey, I too have been looking at these two devices after looking for something with a bit more power than a Raspberry Pi. Both these units seem to have very good specs, but at the moment I am leaning towards the GK802 as I believe there may be more frequent updates as there has already been some, although I could be wrong... I would only be using the device for browsing the internet (YouTube) and playing videos (XBMC using MXplayer as no HW Acceleration yet) to convert my TV from 'dumb' to 'smart'. I would also like to know other peoples thoughts on these two devices.
Sorry I couldn't offer any advice 'TrueYears' as I would like to find out as well.

Get DTS working

Those are some very interesting results...
With the ODROID-U2 I believe it comes without an OS and you have to install Android onto a eMMC Card. Apparently (I have read) they used this instead of SD cards because eMMC Cards are faster. I have had a quick look on the web and cant find anywhere to purchase a eMMC card. Do have anymore information about this?
h t t p://com.odroid.com/sigong/nf_file_board/nfile_board_view.php?keyword=&tag=ODROID-U2&bid=149
(Sorry I couldn't make it a link as haven't done enough posts, remove spaces)
^^ You can get the emmc from hardkernel itself while buying the odroid.
oh ok, I must have missed that. Also I found out you can use a micro SD card instead of the eMMC.
Also have you considered the OUYA gaming console w w w.ouya.tv/
Runs Android, XBMC and full HD 1080p
No I have not. Its tegra 3 and it cannot handle 1080p MKV which is what I want. I used to have a Asus Prime with a Tegra 3 and it did not play 1080p MKV. These Chinese sticks have a custom housemade decoder for video playback
Hey,
I'm one of the developers on the ODROID platform.
Any product of the 4412 family can handle HW decode or Soft-decoded 1080 or 720 videos.
It works very well on Android using MX or Dice player.
Hi mdrjr,
It's great to have someone from the odroid team to answer some questions about the ODROID-U2
So just to confirm with your preivous post, the odroid-u2 can play 1080p mkv's smoothly in MX Player?
If I used a MicroSD instead of a eMMC card to run android would there be any performance difference?
How do you turn the unit off? Is there a switch, a power off button on android or do you just pull the plug?
Can you use a Bluetooth dongle with it such as this (Remove Spaces) h t t p://dx.com/p/super-mini-bluetooth-2-0-adapter-dongle-vista-compatible-11866
Do usb webcams work at all with it for things like skype? (Not a big issue if it doesn't)
I have seen videos of the odroid devices running Ubuntu. Is there a noob friendly guide on how to do this as I have practically no knowledge of this stuff
Thanks, sorry for all the questions
thedoctor903
Videos all over the web on 1080p mkv playing smooth
If you can run Android on SD then it should be the same speed
There is a switch
it has bluetooth with usb dongle
Yes Android/Linux supports webcams
Odroid is better then allwinner cpu for Mkv 1080p, they have odroid cases on ebay from GB.

Hi,
I just checked the ODROID website and the A/C adapter. The specifications are as follows:
ODROID can't be powered by micro-USB port.
AC 100~240 Volt input
DC 5Volt / 2A output
Switching mode power adapter
Plug specification : inner diameter 0.8mm and outer diameter 2.5mm
^^^You can just measure the plug size of your PSP Charger and see if it is the same I guess...

* Yea odroid is way better, 1080P will be smooth.
* eMMC is twice as fast than class 10 card = better performance
* There is a switch
* Yea
* Yes most of them will, try logitech ones if you hasn't bought one yet.
* Yes ubuntu images are available and its easy to setup.
Good luck and it has awesome GPU too (mali - 400mp)

I wish I had ordered two actually. I have the SD and the eMMC. eMMC is running CM10.1, so I figured I'd install Ubuntu on the SD, the SD is indeed very slow compared to the eMMC (tested Ubuntu on the SD AND eMMC).

+1 (but that's only on Android right? Ubuntu(any linux?) does not have had the luxury of getting HW acceleration till now *sigh*)
AFAIK, ODROID-U2 have been compared to early Intel i3's proc
As of now, I have my eyes set on the the U2 (only things sucks is the $30 bar for the shipping..wtf!? )

Hi,
I recon that you're from India too
I have a few questions before I order a ODROID-U2:
- What about the customs/taxes etc.? How much had you paid for yours?
- The forums are nearly full of thread of discussions going on between Samsung and ARM to open the Mali driver
And afaik ODROID-XX does not support HW acceleration in Ubuntu/any Linux distro.
So, what do you feel about it? Will we really get out hands on it? There must've been some experiments in the community about this issue. Do you know of any successful attempt on ODROIDs? (except for those AllWinner A10s thingy :| )
- Even if I get the ODROID-U2 and considering the trend of the silicon companies. Will the community get the middle finger in-case of HW acceleration support on Linux?
^^ I'm from India as well. I got a bunch of other stuff along with my U2 (total bill around 12k). Was slapped with a 1.6k duty + arnd 400 charges from fedex. So total around 14k..
No idea/opinion about whether linux hw acceleration support will see the light of the day. On the odroid forums, someone has made some drivers available for hw acceleration but no idea if they work. Neither did I test them, nor do I have any know how about gfx hw/drivers to read through it to see if it is the real deal.

Hi,
Thanks for replying!
That's 2k in customs/taxes
Holy F4*k!?
Yeah, I just fired en email to the Hardkernal customer support and they did replied as "all invoices will be same as your purchasing".
That's just too stupid and sad.. :'(
Any idea where else I can get the same for low $$ ? :|
I am also eyeing on Cubieboard (in fact have been an active member on their forums long ago) but I suppose you can't get the performance juice out of it to swiftly use ubuntu. (also its having just 1gb of RAM whereas the U2 has like 2 GB )

[Q] Custom ROM for Ramos X10F anyone?

Hello
I recently purchased a Ramos X10F on an impulse buy on a trip to the PP last month. I had been waiting longer than a year for an 8" 4:3 device that was not Apple with expandable memory and this one just made me succumb. Also I fell for the false data in marketing it as a cortex A9 and I thought a quad core A9 should be faster than my dual core A9 in the n7000. Actually it is a A5 or A7 (device details in cpuz mention some A7 blah).
The device has great potential to be an ipad mini killer (at $165) as the hardware fit and finish is very good, the screen is IPS and it weighs only 360 grams. I can hold it in one had lying in bed without tiring myself. However performance is marred by the stock android 4.1.1. Intially I thought it was slow nand flash as when I enabled cpu stats, the nand-rw-flash process appeared to be the top process for a longish time, each time it stalled. However I later discovered, the device is very laggy when Wifi is on while actual WiFi throughput is very good - I get almost full speed 16mbs in the speedtest.net results. Unfortunately even with entropy seeder and a deadline or noop scheduler, the lagginess is only partially improved. Also the old linux/android decision of using input to randomize and seed the entropy is only good for desktops not servers or touchpads. I have to tap a few times to get a app screen to respond inexplicably and suddenly and it shows that the OS was waiting on input. The device is best for streaming as typically once the app is opened I never have a problem with lag a it is typically 15 to 30 mins of viewing before switching apps. Otherwise the poor performance means a task that should take normal time (like reading news in the morning for 15 mins) takes more than twice the time as I have to struggle with the slow app launches and screen loading mostly. But if Wifi is switched off and content is cached, everything is smooth and much better. Battery life is decent with display brightness set around or below 10% typically.
So my recommendation for a new buyer is - dont buy until a custom ROM is made available. Dont fall for the x10pro video on the utube yet. Real world performance is not the same. Once the smoothness of the 4.4.x is acheived it will be a killer product. (It is not a weak cpu either, it is responsive and smooth with wifi off. Although the chip does not support out-of-order execution)
I would like to upgrade the android from its 4.1.1 to a 4.4.x version. Also this version is vulnerable to heartbleed and the openssl bug that came after that in June 2014. The omnirom 4.4.3 on my n7000 is really smooth and I am hoping somebody will develop a custom rom for this device.
But I dont see a custom ROM or CWM for this anywhere. I installed a CWM recovery for another ATM7029 device (yarvik) and it boots, but I forgot about the display driver compatibility and I can no longer view the menu in recovery mode. Otherwise rooted it and running ok.
The specifications of the device are as follows:
OS: Android 4.1.1
CPU: Quad Core ATM7029
GPU: Vivante GC1000
RAM 1GB,DDR3 --> False. Real RAM is 686MB.
Storage 8GB
Screen: Capacitive Touchscreen, 1024*768 Full resolution Screen
Size: 7.85 inch
Resolution: 1024*768 Pixels
Flash: Support Flash 11.0 and HTML 5
Extend Card Support TF card up to 32GB extended
Camera Dual Camera Front 2.0M,Back 5.0M
Gravity Sensor Yes
Multi-Touch Yes, 5 points touch
Android Market Yes
Skype Yes
Email and Browser: Yes, built in
WIFI: Yes, 802.11 b/g/n
3G : support external 3G dongle
OTG Function: Support USB Mouse,Keyboard (2.4GHz)
Support:FAT,FAT32,NTFS
Earphone Interface 3.5mm
Battery: 4000mAh
Link to the device blurb: http://www.ramos-tablet.com/ramos-x...et-mini-7-85-inch-screen-dual-camera-16g.html
What do I need to submit for a developer to build a custom rom for this device? Some kind of dump? Also need a recovery manager with the right display driver. Either TWRP or CWM.
I hope a developer will volunteer.
Thanks

Did you manage to find Firmware ? I have very common issue and I am also lookig for it... Maybe someone knows which firmware I can use as a substitute?
I need this firmware too. my tablet is a Growing GTQ788x but the board have the same reference.

Oreo just dropped for Tmobile

More news after reboot
The download was very fast and the whole install took about 10 minutes.
After a couple of reboots, everything is running slugish. This is probably expected since we have been on 7.0 for over 2 years.
This phone is doing a lot of thinking & that is just probably why it's sluggish.
I imagine that after a day or so the speed will increase.
Every thing looks good so far!
Settings
Here is the proof of the install.
Yep just got it. So far so good.
Thanks for heads up. Downloading now, hopefully performance will.improve as phone has been sluggish last couple months.
Audio : Bluetooth
I am loving the improved sound with Bluetooth speakers. There are some codecs that are very impressive. How can we configure them?
Do we need some special app to load & configure them?
SBC – the standard mandatory Bluetooth audio codec. Can vary greatly in quality depending on the capabilities of the connected hardware. Adds significant lossy compression in many cases, as its bit rate ranges between 192 and 320 kbps.
AAC – A popular license-free lossy codec used by many services, including YouTube. Wireless version typically supported by Apple products. Standard 250 kbps transmission offers compression comparative to a high-quality MP3.
atpX – Qualcomm’s proprietary codec that uses differential sub-band transmission to save on data-rate, unlike ACC or MP3. Offers a fixed 4:1 compression ratio versus CD quality files, transferring at 352 kbps.
aptX HD – a higher quality version of aptX that offers support for 24-bit files at 48 kHz. Is still lossy, but transmits more data at 576 kbps.
LDAC – Sony’s proprietary Bluetooth codec. Like SBC, it comes in a selection of quality options but these range from 330 kbps up to 990 kbps, meaning it potentially transfers the most data out of every Bluetooth audio codec available. The highest quality option supports 24-bit, 96 kHz audio.

Great find on bluetooth capabilities. The option to set this is located in settings, developer options.
Yep, have it already
