[Q] Revert from new gingerbread? - General Questions and Answers

ok here goes can anyone point me in the direction of an ruu that works after upgrading to the new gingerbread on desire?

ok i'll explain a bit more. Iv'e updated to the newest version of gingerbread on my desire, its the official dev one from htc, my problem is my power button is broke so the rom is virtually useless to me, ive tried volume wake apps but they just dont work consistently, so my only option is to revert back using an ruu, the problem is, there doesnt seem to be one that works . anyone with any answer, even if its just to say there is'nt a way of sorting this, will be greatly appreciated

Why did I upgrade to Gingerbread 2.3.3 or, how do I reverse the damage?

So I got a little note today: new version of Gingerbread to update!
So I did.
Not thinking that it would unroot my phone, break my google voice, my swype, and otherwise wreak havoc on my life.
How do I get back what I had? It wasn't broke, why did I need to fix it?
Has anyone else had problems with 2.3.3? If i just root it the way I did last time (flashed clockwork without breaking open the bootloader (?), will it work?
WT
i ve installed gingerbread on my htc n have no problem,
maybe u should see the instruction carefully
Thanks for the reply.
There are no instructions.
My question - specifically - is around re-rooting the phone - if I will need to flash a different clockworkmod - and around why swype is broken, and if people think it will be fixed soon (from the swype side, presumably)
I already downloaded the previous version of voice and installed it with astro - it works again, thankfully. a little miffed that I've lost swype.
wondering what other nexus s owners are experiencing? especially those who rooted.
WT
Also, the screen definitely looks more off-white.
Can someone please enumerate the advantages of the update? NFC only? and now facebook doesn't sync? I'm not sure that was enough to update. Are other rooted nexus S owners avoiding this and flashing cyanogen?
There are certainly issues with 2.3.3 and some people are a bit fed up with them. Swype problems can usually be resolved by a re-install of the software. The Nexus S colour temperature change was intentional to make the appearance more accurate although i'm not sure everybody is having the same experience as a result. Some love it, some loathe it. Perhaps it's not consistent?
You can re-root by flashing the su.zip from chainsDD which at least solves that issue.
CM7 itself is not perfect yet but it's damn near close. Expect a finished release based around 2.3.3 sometime soon. I'm using the Release Candidate on my N1 and i've never been happier with my device.
Thanks. I'll have to oem unlock though, correct? Had been able to avoid that in 2.3.2 which I kind of liked.

You'd have to as you'd need to install a custom recovery to install the .zip. Aren't the Nexus S Bootloaders relockable? I'm sure i read that somewhere.

[Q] desire hd with issues please help

hello i have a desire hd which i think is a fantastic phone. Now i have rooted using visionary and can put roms on that i choose i found the king rom 1.8 to be nice except for like what i have found on all the gingerbread roms i have tried is that my phone sounds like crap it is constantly feeding back and everyone i speak to complains about this ? i flashed the radio that is suited to the rom but no difference ? not only that but the a2dp bluetooth keeps stuttering which is totally unacceptable considering it was perfect in Froyo. I have not unrooted the phone but using clockwork i could flash back my original rom and voila the phone sounds perfect and my bluetooth is sweet. I consider this to be my best option afterall it is a phone and primarily thats what should work properly. My question is i have recieved notification to download an update which i did but got the little green robot and the exclamation mark in the triangle when trying to boot ? so ive flashed it back to original and all is ok. Is it possible to make my rooted phone load the update properly ? From what i read these standard roms and updates are suppose to be crap but at least everything works. Anyone got any suggestions as to how to get the update to work as i would like to move ahead software wise but at this stage with gingerbreads crappy phone quality and A2DP issues its not worth it.

[Q] Advice for Android and Sensation newbie?

Hi there,
I just got my new HTC Sensation, and I'm coming from my old HD2. I'm finding it fairly easy to get to grips with, but just want some advice on what people would recommend doing to get the most out of my phone. I will install a new ICS rom sometime soon, but in the meantime, what can others suggest?
Also, I did pick up something - I tried turning on delivery reports for text messages, but they keep turning off. Is it something I'm doing wrong?
Thanks,
David
After you root I would use coindroid sense 4 rom it had allot of support and I'd very stable but Bluetooth doesn't work all the way I'd that is important to you and I would use rom toolbox with every rom you can change fonts change CPU speed it had root explorer and a bunch more features

Hi David,
HD2 was a really nice phone, but the Sensations is better.
Before starting with the hacking I would suggest give it a go with the stock ROM. Check for update of the firmware, while you are at it. ICS upgrade is widely available now, so your phone could be next.
After you have used the phone for some time, then have a look at the wide variety of custom ROMs available at xda. Read the instructions carefully and good luck flashing.

I was a coindroid user, but a few days ago I switched to aokp official.
is faster, lighter, almost all working (see cm9 bugs) and...well, is aosp looking!
I'm coming from a leo, too, here you will find lot of great roms, just flash
I suggest you to try official aokp, sense 4 and last version of arhd...
these are the best roms (I don't like cm9, try that too if you want)

Hi,
What is your hboot number?
Go to settings/power,and untick fastboot.
Power the phone off.
Power on holding volume down + power button.
You will see your hboot number.
If it is still below 1.27,then
DO NOT USE OTA(OVER THE AIR) UPDATE
Once you do this ,you will no longer be able to s-off your phone(using revolutionary)
This will then cause you no end of problems later, when you go to update to ICS...

[Q] Does whole disk encryption get lost in the shuffle?

Hey all,
I was intending to ask this question in the Android Revolution thread, but on account of my new-ness, the system wants me to ask it here. That said, I did search the thread for keywords, and it doesn't look like anyone has discussed / addressed this issue from the angle I'm inquiring about.
(Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098849&highlight=encryption)
Basically, I've read a lot of people talking about not wanting to have to enable whole device encryption on their phones, and it appears that there was some complication with how Exchange policies tried to force them to. I'm approaching this from the opposite perspective. I want to enable whole disk/device encryption on my phone, and I'm wondering if, and if so why, the feature is removed in ICS roms.
I'm a bit of a security freak, and whole disk encryption is something I'd like to have on the phone. So is this something that has been taken out intentionally (implying that there's no demand for it, and a rom won't likely bring it back), or is it just a compatibility issue (suggesting that someone might be working on it, and I just need to sit tight).
I'd finish by noting that I've never really had much success getting a response on XDA. If I'm approaching this wrong, please tell me.
Did you manage to sort this in the end?
It seems that HTC have removed this feature from the stock ROM for no real reason other than to force you to update to a newer phone if you want it.
I can't even S-OFF mine with Revolutionary so if I just had a patch to enable this feature on the stock ROM (I have the HTC Dev unlock working fine) that'd be excellent.

Nope, unfortunately not.
Nobody seems to have (or want to share) an explanation to this issue. To be frank, I find it somewhat odd that there has been complete silence on an issue that is so fundamental to mobile security.
But, as mentioned, no luck figuring this one out. I'm using Revolutionary now, it works great, but no whole disk encryption.
No one cares about security around these parts by the looks of it.
CM9 has disk encryption apparently, as should any ICS ROM not based on Sense 3.6. I have the latest HBOOT but I've just found a guide which should help me run CM9 on my phone anyway, so I'll give that a shot and see what happens

yes..try other roms..as the stock ICS roms and custom sense ROMS didnt have this feature afaik
so mobile security is your concern and if it is a must have thing
you can flash cm9 as you said it has that feature
and also with just unlocked bootloader and 3.32 firmware you can flash any custom rom ..and i think i no need to link the guide to you too as it seems you have already found it
good luck
Got CM9 running fine but the data encryption doesn't work at the moment. I just get a picture of an Android robot in half and nothing happens. Hopefully this will be fixed for the upcoming release candidate, we will see.

Downgrade HTC Sense to Sense 2.3

Hi all,
I recently updated my 'unrooted' HTC Desire S from HTC Sense 2.3 to Sense 3.0. Ever since then the phone has been acting up and become slower in general. Is there any way to downgrade the phone back to Sense 2.3 without rooting as I am really skeptical about it, and please nobody say "oh it's fine it's safe" because nothing anyone, or anything, can say to persuade me. (No disrespect)
I have been to countless shopfronts that might have the slightest thing to do with mobile phones and on many occasions I have gotten the answer people have successfully done this in the past. I, and many other people as I have seen from other forums really want to downgrade without rooting.
If anyone can give me an answer, any help, or even a point in the right direction that would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Ronald
It might be worth waiting for sence 4.0 as it surpose to be a lighter version of sence so should run better. Im on 3.0 too and find it a bit sluggish at times but there should be an update soon.
Hi Ronald,
it is possible with a temporary root, that is not modifying your device. Look for a downgrade guide in the index.
You need zegrush exploit to gain temp root in order to change the main version (to "trick" the device that you are updating it while actually downgrading), then use the oldest RUU available for your brand/region. This process will leave no trace that the device was ever manipulated. Keep in mind that this process will also delete all your data and installed apps.
Good luck

Take ammibudha's advice. Your phone will be just like from the box, like 1 year or so ago, when you bought it. Don't be affraid, you still will be able to receive OTA.

It was more than an year ago when I got the device (it was my first Android) but I remember that I was impressed by the weather animations and I think that the sound was present too. But I am not completely sure about this.
EDIT: check this
Uhmm, i think they didn't.
If I remember correctly, i had to disable weather sounds in weather app with the very original ROM. It was like 1 year ago, when i bought my phone. Weather widget was making that funny weather soudns.
But im unsure about clock with weather.
I found that sense 2.1 had smoother scrolling between home screens because it didn't have that stupid 3d carousel effect. I also found that the weather sounds were better quality than sense 3.0 ones. the update to 2.3.5 improved the smoothness and scrolling within apps. I found that everything apart from the scrolling between home screens is smoother on sense 3 I still don't think it's worth going back to sense 2.1 though
+1
Don't like that stupid rotating cube effect.
I build software for downgrad Sense and HBOOT.
I need 10 posts for publish...
Thanks for the advice

Hi, thanks for the advice but I'm pretty sure that htc have stopped releasing updates for the desire s aside from some minor bug fixes but not OS changes. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Thanks again,

Thank you so much for such a quick reply. If possible could you please send me a guide to this temporary root. Also could you tell me what differences this root has from the conventional root and does it have any devastating risks like normal rooting such as bricking one's phone, because if that's the case I would have to consider paying $100 or so for a 3rd party phone repair specialist to do the job, that way if anything goes wrong their liable and not some guy that failed to root his phone [me].
Regards
Ronald
The major difference between this root and conventional is that this one is temporary. Once you've rebooted, you're no longer rooted. You could easyly do it yourself, check the INDEX and search for "downgrade hboot without using htcdev unlock". Considering your mainversion (2.10 or higher) you should use zergrush for 2.10.xxx or tacoroot if > 2.10.xxx.
