[Q] desire hd with issues please help - General Questions and Answers

hello i have a desire hd which i think is a fantastic phone. Now i have rooted using visionary and can put roms on that i choose i found the king rom 1.8 to be nice except for like what i have found on all the gingerbread roms i have tried is that my phone sounds like crap it is constantly feeding back and everyone i speak to complains about this ? i flashed the radio that is suited to the rom but no difference ? not only that but the a2dp bluetooth keeps stuttering which is totally unacceptable considering it was perfect in Froyo. I have not unrooted the phone but using clockwork i could flash back my original rom and voila the phone sounds perfect and my bluetooth is sweet. I consider this to be my best option afterall it is a phone and primarily thats what should work properly. My question is i have recieved notification to download an update which i did but got the little green robot and the exclamation mark in the triangle when trying to boot ? so ive flashed it back to original and all is ok. Is it possible to make my rooted phone load the update properly ? From what i read these standard roms and updates are suppose to be crap but at least everything works. Anyone got any suggestions as to how to get the update to work as i would like to move ahead software wise but at this stage with gingerbreads crappy phone quality and A2DP issues its not worth it.

I rooted, Flashed, Flashed Again, Then Exchanged lol

I did the ace hack kit and successfully got s-off and full root. I flashed att1 ROM, followed by LeeDroid with the stock kernel, then the Telus Kernel, I had no video support at all. Youtube would not play or even videos I taken with the actual phone would not play.
I then flashed AndroidRevolution with the Telus Kernel and same problem, No video support what so ever, and bad sound quality all together,
Then the audio fix came out and I followed those steps with each of the above mentioned ROM and then developed speaker phone and or microphone problems, Still no video support, and crappy GPS.
After 5 days of flashing ROM, KERNELS, & FIXES I felt like I went back to my captivate of somethings working well and other not working well or not at all,
I flashed back to the rooted stock ROM, to not have WI-FI working at all. Secured or Open, "obtaining IP address" is all it would show for hours. I've rebooted, several times to still trying to "obtain IP Address"
Went back to the UNROOTED stock rom, and the phone was still never the same. Still could not obtain an IP address, Sound was still crappy, and I headed back to my favorite electronics retailer and exchanged it for another one, Soon as the phone started and played it's boot sound, you could tell a world of difference.
I did a full wipe of data, system, cache, and davilk cache before flashing all the ROMs. So i still want root, but I'm not flashing anymore ROM's. Even when the factory kernel source code is released, I'm afraid the ROM flashing is going to be like most other phones, you gain something, you lose something. The Inspire Stock ROM I find to be quite nice, smooth, and fast. The bloatware sucks but once you get your apps on the desktop, you don't even have to open the app drawer to look at them.
So you're saying the phone has been out for one entire week and you're already giving up on it? Weak.
I hate that you had such issues! I have a Craptivate as well so I know exactly what you're talking about. I have to say though, I rooted my Inspire and loaded AFR001 the day the phone was released. I didn't have any problems, but I still updated to AFR002 when it came out. I flashed to stock first just to compare and I have to say, I have no gripes with the Inspire, it's running solid as hell! MUCH better than my Craptivate ever did. I hope I don't do anything to mess this phone up cause I feel like I may have gotten lucky with it & don't want to risk getting a lemon.
Budco, trust me when I tell you this, once we get source code, custom roms on this phone will be NOTHING like what is happening now. This phone is a week old. What we have is amazing when you consider that. Once source code drops and we get real kernels made from source for our hardware, things will be much better.
I have owned HTC phones before and I can tell you this from experience. The HTC custom rom experience is NOTHING like the Captivate.
The captivate ROMS are cobbled together like they are, because there isn't source code for froyo for that phone. There is source for its cousins the i9000 and the Armani and Rogers, but none for the ATT Captivate. This makes you give up one thing to get another etc.
A similar thing is what is happening now. We are seeing things built for the Desire HD and NOT our phone.
Just be patient.

not giving up, just waiting to see if a method is possible without downgrading to a European ROM.

That's Cool, I'm all for trying again, I'll just follow the threads and see what comes about.
Wipe data/cache and advanced dalvik then flash vfr003 from attn1. Near stock sound and everything works.

Youtube and JetVD videos work fine. I saw someone else advise to wipe data & cache when ROMing. That's the route I followed. I haven't had any problems yet. I hope you get this worked out.

install attn1s stock rom rooted. i've been using it for 3 days and its been perfect. perfect audio, perfect wifi, no issues whatsoever.
also, this should prolly be in general. just sayin.
I'm working on a solution for this, I almost have everything finished and put together for a stock Rom with sidelong and tethering
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I really think some of you are confused the only roms that video doesn't work are the ones that are for the desire hd (leedroid and Android revolution). All of attn1's versions have working video, at least for me they do. And leedroid did not. I totally agree with you that it is frustrating but you gotta remember we are using software that is not meant for our phones. In a way we are lucky to have this stuff this early. If you want a near stock experience go the rooted stock rom. From what I hear everything works as it should. The only thing I am dealing with is the poor in call sound quality with v003 but my stock in call quality was not perfect when I got the phone.

Eh... Is it just me that thinks this update is great?

Hi everyone.
Is it just me? I think this GB update is great. The phone is much faster, much more responsive, doesnt lock up, no wifi issues. Everything is great. I did like the older camera better but i mean comeon why are so many people's main complaint the camera lol.
Im sure we will be seeing more small updates as bugs are discovered just like in any software but all in all im happy with this update, im happy with this phone and I still love it as I did before

It's definitely a zillion times better than the stock ROM, but that's pretty easy to accomplish when your starting reference is absolute rock bottom worthless garbage.
my phone is a lot faster and my battery life is great camera sucks but not a big deal I guess.

Stock rom
Funny thing is my stock rom with Faux OC/UV when set at 1.0 ghz actually is snappier than the tooted Gingerbread OTA with all bloat removed. On Froyo when I would hit the home button over and over it woulp flip from Homescreen to Sense Preview instantly, blazing fast. When I do the same, with the identical ADW set-up the Sense preview lags. I seem to have more bugs with GB than my last Froyo setup.
Another annoyance, when the phone is asleep, when I hit power the display lights up immediately, but before I can get to the Widget Locker slider the display goes dark again. This never happened with Froyo.
Lastly, when in a call with phone to my ear with Froyo if I move the phone from my ear the dialpad woudl appear as if it was using one of accelerometer (or whatever device) to track my movement. On GB the display stays dark. If I hit power to access the dial pad, i.e. to hit an extension, the display again lights, but goes dark before I can hit the numbers.
This is all after a flashing stock froyo, unrooting and installing via the LG updater (which was an adventure as it took forever). After updating reinstalled CWM and flashed Xboarders 1.0 Rooted OTA).
Honestly, if the new baseband works with Froyo, and if someone tells me restoring my pre-GB Nandroid will let me retain the baseband I may just go back as things were really nice in my Froyo set-up.
I know many folks are loving GB, other it is hell, mine is not bad at all, but weird thing is my Froyo experience was actually better. If I can get the baseband on Froyo and the GPS locks with Froyo like it is now I will stick with Froyo.
cant we install a better camera-app?

No, it's not just you. I love the update and i'm quite happy with my phone.
And unlike everyone else posting on this thread, i'm not going to throw in some negative jab at the end either.
Camera app is the biggest let down for me. I've tried other camera apps on market but nothing compares to the lg one

G2X CM7
Could not agree more. I am super happy with the phone. Extremely responsive and I like the little changes in the looks as well. I also am happy with the darker keyboard.
All around I am happy I kept the phone.
My main gripe is that they were supposedly working on this update for a couple of months. So I just don't understand why the finished product doesn't have the LG Camera app. If this came out back in May, then I'd understand. If this OTA fixes the major software issues, then I'm fine. I do hope we actually get the Ice cream update next year though.
I love the update so far. Snappy, GPS locks instantly, I got to keep all my apps settings and data, and everything works great until now. I was rooted on Eagles's Blood GB, and just updated straight forward, no downgrading, no unrooting. (i did loose root, but hey, they'll crack this baby soon enough)

Well its not working for me. My phone is freezing a few times a day since the update. I had reboots before the update but never a freeze. I went into my local Tmobile store to check out the Sensation and the My touch 4G slide. The guy working there was shaking his head when I told him I was having these problems even with Gingerbread and he pulls his phone out of his pocket and its a G2X. He says he gets the same thing LOL! My GPS as gone from 3 mins lock to 5 mins to a lock after the update. I have a full upgrade credit but think I will wait for the Hercules in Sept.
I like the update. Works well for me.

It doesn't sound like you're running the stock GB? Also, it sounds like your proximity sensor isn't working, i.e., the phone always thinks your face is up against the phone and immediately turns-off the screen to avoid cheek dialing.
I'm digging the gb update and the new go launcher together. I think the screen looks alot better too. It just seems sharper and more vivid. My wife has the Samsung Exhibit and that is a really nice phone and comparing the two screens together is no competition. The g2x screen is so sharp it looks fake.

[Q] Bluetooth Headset Crackling / Popping noises

I have recently rooted my Infuse and installed the most recent CM7 Gingerbread ROM. It was smooth sailing and I have been successfully using for about 1 week. I am now encountering popping and crackling noises only on my Bluetooth headset during phone calls making it unusable. This post had some similar comments - (since I cannot post links Google "Static/popping/clicking sound. - Page 2" I have searched this forum and others without finding a solution. I have tried both a Motorola and Plantronics (Voyager Pro +) with the identical problem. I do not beleive it is the BT headset. Has anyone else experience this. Any suggestions for how to troubleshoot? I tried to revert back to the original Froyo Nandroid backup but I get a "Error while flashing boot image!" error so I cannot test to see if the problem exists with Froyo as well and is just an issue with the phone itself. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
This phone rocks!!
iirc cm7 on the infuse has issues with BT, can't help you further though..
maybe you can try the normal return to stock methods?

And there is your problem.
thank you both for the response. I have returned to stock and will try when I get home tonight to see of the issue is resolved. LinuxBozo, am I to extrapolate from your comment that the version is too bleeding edge for a production phone I should try a different version and or ROM? If I so which would you suggest? I would prefer to be using gingerbread over froyo and I really like the feature in CM7. Matter of fact if was awesome aside from the Bluetooth crackling and issue with not being able to remember previously paired BT devices upon reboot.
Thank you
If you want 100%, everything working as advertised on the box, CM7 is not for you. BT is flaky, and very basic right now, with audio (headsets, a2dp) being the most broken. As for something stable, and Gingerbread, you really cant' go wrong with the latest UCKJ4 leak, as it's basically an early look at what stock gingerbread will be. Otherwise, if you want something not so stock, I would say, look at Serendipity7, Sensation or Dlev.
Great feedback. Thank you!!!
Stock rom doesnt have any issues so it was a CM7 issue.

[Q] Why should i root?

I loved rooting my g1 and my mytouch slide 3g but i'm not sure if it's worth it with the sensation. i think the phone is great with the stock software and since it's already on 2.3.4, what are the benefits? it even has screen shot built in :/
please help!
The only thing that has me ever so slightly interested in rooting, is the Amaze camera mod, however I'm more inclined to sit tight and wait for an official update.
Having a Recovery based Backup through CWM and being able to backup with Titanium might be useful.
Also useful if you like removing bloatware.
.......
Mind you the phone works well as standard, so YMMV.
I like to root to have the newest updates.
In Swiss we had the problem that many branded Sensations had call problems (call aborted after one minute). A friend of mine had this problem, I with my rooted sensation not. So I rooted her device and flashed the newest Radio rom and the problem was gone...
You can also use the leaked Sense 3.5 Roms with a rooted phone ;-)
Look through all the threads in the development section and see all the things which you WONT get if you stay unrooted, all the things which you will miss out on, rooting gives you the ability to use programs which need lower level access than others, simply put you are missing out on a lot of features if you do not root, but hey no one has a gun to your head so make up your own mind, personally i find the whole rooting process worthwhile so i can flash custom roms and make my phone a better device to use.
The sensation on stock is a slow and underpar phone which could have been great, let down only by rushed development and poor handling of the code, if you flash a rom cooked up by one of XDA's dev's then you will see a huge difference in terms of performance and looks, there simply is no comparison.
Not rooted is like a computer but you are the user. While the rooted phone it acts like you are the admin you can do whatever you want to your precious phone.

I agree with all above.
I've rooted every android phone i've ever had, starting from the original desire.
It enables you to tinker with, and improve, on so many things. I also had incredible heat with my sensation on stock. I rooted it and it stopped.
I wouldn't even ponder the thought of keeping an android phone stock anymore.

WIND MOBILE XT720 users

Hey people,
This is for us Wind phone users.
SFB is to bring the phone back to a pre-OR rooted state correct?
So we have one for our phones?
If someone has an 2.1 nandroid of just after they rooted and OR installed.. I would really like it.. I think I lost my original.
James
Here's the Stock Wind ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20930893&postcount=59
thank you! I did not find that post in my searches.
I tried to load some of these fake ICS like rom builds last night and crashed the phone.
So I had to go back to stock.. used the Brightpoint SBF .. worked fine, and you know.. after all the playing I have done with the phone.. it was simple and FAST.. but then quickly 2.1 eclair became too simple and I remember why I am playing with ROMS
James
Which ROMs are you playing with? I agree, 2.1 is just not developed enough but 2.2 seems to be perfect for this device. I've played with the CM6 Rom (which would give me random freezes) and the Bravo one (which I'm currently using and is my personal favourite).
you need to keep an eye on the apps you have running in the background
that's why you experience those random slow downs, it doesn't actually freeze
unless you really mean freeze as in you need to wait for more than 5 minutes and still not back to normal and need to take out the battery to reboot
because if it's so, then i don't have that problem
Thanks for the rom I need this.
CM6 was the first I installed and I can't rule out the possibility that it slowed down on me but bravo seems more stable and more polished, like if the phone came stock with it I probably wouldn't try anything else. Not a lot of eye candy, but our device simply doesn't have the hardware to be so pretty. Plus im not eager to use roms that don't use our hardware (buttons, leds, etc.)
Bravo is a really good ROM, no need to apologize.
Hmm I didn't mean to sound like I didn't appreciate CM6. I can understand why so many like it, and I am glad there are people who are willing to give some time to make our phones even better than the day we bought them.
I want to give the miui rom a try too. Can anyone comment on its functionality(especially other Wind users)?
Sent from my modded Herotab C8. (genesis) using XDA App
I find that the MIUI rom is a tad slow and unresponsive. The good news is that just about everything works. Lack of memory causes frequent slowdowns and crashes though.
Personally, I've had trouble getting WIND 3g working on everything but CM6, miui and bravo... I don't know why.
hey guys... my question is twofold:
1) i find all the nandroid, sbf, everything a bit confusing... and im just wondering how to use this wind stock rom to bring back my phone to the original wind rom, is it as simple as putting the file into the Openrecovery/Updates folder and booting into Open Recovery and Applying the update? or will just doing that mess things up?
2) a few months back i installed the cm6 rom for xt720, since then ive had huge problems with the radio - such as not being able to make calls or send texts. calls and texts will usually eventually work - depending on where i am, but i have to try them several to several dozen times before they do. i checked out my radio baseband and it is not the same as it should be for wind. will reflashing to this stock wind rom reset my baseband as well? i tried using the baseband update from this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1241685) to reset the baseband, but it didnt actually change it.
thanks for anyone who can answer these (noobish) questions
Not sure if you got a reply or not..
With the original ROM you need to use an SBF - I have it, it has been posted here.
Search and you will find the tools you need to re-flash - you need a windows computer, and some software you can download - a clean original ROM cannot be flashed by OR because OR is not in the phone originally.
2. YES putting the phone back to original will be truly original.
James
