I am using Weapon g2x 2.4 and Faux's 0.1.3 kernel. I am unable to get any Gps locks so far. Any suggestions on how to fix this issue?
Try going to stock and getting the OTA 2.3.3 update. It contains a new baseband that reportedly gives better GPS lock.
Go to maps>settings delete cache let it get your position and download positioning data.
Close maps open navigation, you should be getting instant locks.

Same here, but it usually stays locked for a lot longer than 2 minutes...but it'll just randomly lose its lock (even under a clear open sky) and then it will not return until you reboot.
Yes, I have new baseband.
Yes, I have cleared and re-downloaded AGPS data.
I'm on CM7. I flashed back to stock and had the same issues.
Sometimes I get a near-instant lock. Sometimes it take 5 minutes to lock. Sometimes it won't lock at all.
Interestingly, when I open up a GPS utility app when the phone is trying to lock, it's obvious that the phone can see plenty of satellites (shows like 8 or 9 green bars, indicating different satellites), but the phone still takes forever to figure out its position. So it doesn't seem to be a problem with the antennas not receiving a strong signal from the satellites, but that it can't "figure out" its position using that data...
I have the same thing,
when opening GPS status, after a few seconds the phone sees ~6-8 satellites but it fails to lock on them most of the times.
after a while, a long while it can go wither way, either it locks with the same satellites that he have seen or added slowly more satellites and locks when he reaches 10 or so.
also if i see how scattered the satellites are then i see that they are not too scattered as oppose to opening the same software in GSII or my old vibrant phone.
i wonder why 3,4 satellites are not enough to get a lock.
My gps currently locks on right away. I'm also using weapon g2x.
Where do I get the new baeband and how do I install it?
I am using Cyanogen 7.1.
Baseband:
M6600A-SCAUTNZ-2.0.9720T 1 [MAR 27 2011 10:00:00] MP:TRUGLE_08.09.02R_MDM
Unfortunately the only way to get the new baseband is to update through the lg updater tool.
Make a nandroid backup of your current configuration in CWM, then revert to stock froyo. You dont need to unroot or any nonsense like that.
Once you have froyo, use the lg updater. You will lose CWM, so re-flash it using the nvflash method. (Don't worry, you dont need to be rooted just go ahead and flash it.)
Once you've re-flashed CWM, restore the nandroid of CM7.1.

I would also say make sure your doing a proper wipe when your flashing. And also that your using the recommended radio for the rom your using.
My gps works fine, using coredroid ... I did a full wipe though before installing
I full wipe before each install or restore. Gonna try radio reflash and see if that helps.

But I'm not the OP . I am into GPS stuff tho this is cool . I am on my way to work but will check this out.
I have found that when my historical GPS data is wiped I have to use market apps like GPS Fix or GPS Essentials as an aid to getting lock again. I don't know if these really do anything...what it does do is have you watching the screen standing outside with open sky for 10 or so minutes as the # of satellites increases until it gets me within a 7 or so meter accuracy radius (lock). Then GPS behaves much better going forward with quicker acquisition times and such.
I had the same issue, reflashing the stock radio worked for me. This happened across several ROMs so I am not sure when the problems started. The ROM I am using now works best with the stock radio, flashed it and all problems were gone. I used GPS Status to lock, now I lock within seconds.

My gps stopped working on my first Inspire. Got spotty, then died completely, no matter what ROM. I restored to stock with s-on, same issue. Brought it to a warranty center and exchanged it. The new one locks better than the.old one ever did (and I thought the old was great) and has worked fine ever since. Might just be a bad chip.

Since this was developed for Gingerbread, and I'm still stock, I think I will wait either until I root, or get the OTA if not rooted, then try this out .
I have noticed, or seem to have, that when I am not toggling my GPS on and off as much over time the more accurate and quick it gets. I had profiles toggling it based on conditions. I started getting rid of those conditions vs. GPS, and I get locks much quicker. Of course it sucks the battery big time, but I am plugged in a lot. And I have a quick toggle I just have to keep in mind if I'm out and don't really need it and need the battery instead.
After changing several Roms I lost my GPS as well. First I did a full wipe, factory reset, all cashe, ect. Did a clean install (with certain roms I found having a clean reboot between installing add-ons helps). I then Installed the GPS Script for US ran the GPS Test App free from the market and get a lock on 9+ sats in under 25 sec.
no one mentioned this when they brought up reflashing hte radio, but make sure you have a matching RIL for the radio. i've had so many headaches over gps that were fixed by making sure i have the right RIL lol. for an easy way to download and flash RIL, check out the gtg4556 (i think thats right) section in ROM Manager and look for the RIL flasher. AWESOME tooL
Finally got around to fooling with this thing... lol... GPS is working again. I decided to go ahead and unroot to make sure it wasn't a hardware issue and it wasn't. Started working again when put back to stock. So, I rerooted and its still working. I'm assuming it was a radio mixup between roms or something. Thanks for all the responses.

Since I flashed the radio / ROM combination in my sig my GPS is behaving like one would expect. I had an HTC Tilt1 one and the GPS was good. I have been disappointed with the performance of the Inspire's GPS, but no longer. Locks under 10 seconds and sometimes under 5. Good. I like it when things like this are resolved.
If your gps stops working altogether, you can usually fix it by just re-flashing the radio. You don't need to unroot and go back to stock.

Downloaded a few ROMs and have been searching around here for a little while now, decided to join. Right now I'm using LeeDroid 3.3.1 (BFS) with Sense 3.0. GPS has been spotty on pretty much every other ROM so I just downloaded angeldeath's northeast USA zip file and I'm going to see how it works later. I still can't figure out why some places within a 15 mile radius I'll have 10 satellite fixes and other places my phone seems to be completely ineffective at locating even 1. I'm curious how the battery is going to last with this ROM.

Well, I have no gps signal still. I'm getting irritated. It found a max of 3 satellites but lost them just as soon as finding them. Signal switching between 3g and H constantly which is interesting. I love the format of this ROM but this GPS problem is not making me happy.

Interestingly enough I downloaded that app from the market and set it at north America then noticed GPS Status and GPS Test both were recording between 3-5 sat fixes while Navigation (google) status was stuck at "searching for GPS". Seems like the problem is with Google not the phone, but I have no idea how to get it to recognize a signal.

2.1mbps download/1.5mbps upload and consistant service inside my house so far -- haven't been able to check the gps though. I accidentally downloaded and flashed the "GPS Libraries and AGPS support for HD2 Gingerbread" file last night at 2am when I was about to fall asleep, thought it was angeldeath's file and just didn't pay attention. I was hoping it wouldn't hurt anything and reinstalled the backed up ROM from 2 days previous just to be safe, still hoping it didn't hurt the phone at all :/

I really reccomend trying this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=953630
My GPS travails with the Inspire are: Stock; sucks bad! Rooted and a few custom ROM's; pretty good no real issues. The aforementioned + the solution contained in the above post? Wow. I get locks...indoors now. Let me say that again. I get locks, indoors. If not locks it often picks up some satellites, indoors. I haven't tried it as a nav with the car though yet.
I guess I'm really lucky. The longest mine has ever gone before a lock indoors is two minutes.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using the power of the dark side.
Yeah, I think there's something seriously wrong with the phone, which I will spend the next few hours attempting to figure out. I finally got the nav to work relatively well and now it just shuts down whenever it feels like it (the entire phone). I tried unrooting and turning S-on. it unrooted but it's still set on S-off so I'm rooting again to see if I can't get it to set it back on. This is just pissing me off lol.
Followed ace-hack and had the software version 1.32 or something on the phone after I was done, back to s-off. Backing up that ROM right now. I pulled up the GPS with that old radio, RIL, and software package in my house and it fired up and got a lock within less than 30 seconds...no other apps necessary. I took the phone off the charger, didn't shut down on me so wish me luck! I'm going to flash ClearDroid and start from there I guess...with the newest software update for that phone and the newest radio from ATT...
I have searched around but cant find a reasonable answer.

To fix I tried gps fix and gps test. they work for the moment but after a reboot or after a few minutes with no use, the issue is back

Welcome to six months ago. But seriously, this is a known issue, were you encountering it on stock?
There's a few ways of fixing it, none work every time. I personally can't get my locks under a minute no matter what.
I have the same issue (upgrade Weapon 2.6 from 2.5) as OP.
I have to reset the data/clear dalvik cache and reinstall weapon 2.6. GPS works great, lock under 7 sec.
Yeah I tried stock, and I tried re-installing 2.6, thing is I never tried using the GPS before.
I finally aquired navigon and It literally takes like 5 minutes to lock on.

Your first lock on a new device (or rom, which is basically the same thing) will always be slow, that's just a limitation of GPS technology. It's all the subsequent locks you have to worry about.

OK I know the first is long but not every time I want to use GPS. I have a Milestone 2, it locks on within seconds. I actually still use it as my primary GPS but come on, this G2x is suppose to run circles around a Milestone 2 (droid 2)
I am trying Eagle Bloods (2.3.5) will let you all know
aaaah i miss nokia phones...instant lock in the basement
I am using CM7 latest nightly with the July 15th baseband.
This works every time for me, get an instant lock:
-Turn on GPS
-Hard Reboot (hold vol up+power)
-open maps
-wait for lock (for the circle around the arrow to disappear, ~10 seconds)
-exit maps and go into navigation
-enter destination
-Boom! Instant navigation
Not sure if it'll work on weapon but give it a shot. I'm actually curious to find out if I'm the only one this works for.
Yeah no luck here. It locks after 5 minutes or so, I used GPS fix and others but still damn! My milestone would lock instantly. Might just be a g2x thing. Or because I am in europe. Oh well guess I will have to make do, getting tired of changing roms 3 times a day to find out.
What kills me is there are so many good things about this phone but all the simple stuff is what makes it crappy. Like the GPS, and no led lights. My old Sony x8 has led lights I mean come on now

I am not worried about it. The phone is great for what I use it for on a daily basis. I just have this navigon app and liked it on the ms2. I will just have to start the GPS really early before a big trip.

This leads me to believe that GB breaks the GPS. This also may be why we don't have ota yet. Can anyone with gps problems verify that they are or are not on GB?
