S-ON Rooting Guide - SO EASY this way! - HTC Desire S

I was clueless to what S-ON was on my phone (realised it was security on)
If you want to root and like me was getting confused by tonnes of guides and root information, follow this video:
Can't post link: youtube.com/watch?v=kvg0i8in96M&list=FLWd-A2r4xLxza36zUEKVGOQ&index=2&feature=plpp
This is not my video but I highly recommend it, it get's you rooted in 10 mins & no stress!
Also this guy has other good video's based around the Desire S which can help out those who are new to rooting...

Hello there and thanks a million for the demo.

Two solutions:
1) Don't hold the phone in landscape as problem is much worse when held like this..
2) Achieve S-OFF and install a custom ROM which should have a software fix.
If you need to know what S-OFF then you probably are S-ON. To see how to get S-OFF then use search within forum and google.
Look at other posts before creating a new thread......http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1036357
i did a research on s-off but could'nt find any topic to show how to s-off the HTC Desire S.
Any resolution for that?

No idea, I'm afraid. I'd also recommend that you don't ask that question in the thread as it will simply annoy the developers who are working on the solution as fast as they can.
It has been shown to work on the Desire S already, but isn't yet released. It's released for other devices which shows that its not vapour ware and is worth waiting for.
and yes I'd suggest waiting a fortnight to a month at least....before contemplating XTC

BEFORE you do anything make sure you read, read and re-read:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
BE CAREFUL, it's easy to brick the phone if you don't read and understand, especially if you start applying Firmware updates required for ICS. A few folks have managed to get the latest firmware applied and removed S-OFF, this is a problem as the revolutionary.io method to S-OFF won't work with the later Firmware versions.
Make sure you read the guides before you start, I can't stress this enough.
S-OFF switches off the security flag. (REQUIRED IN ORDER TO DO MOST THINGS)
Custom Recovery (e.g. CWM or 4EXT) allows you to install custom ROMs and other components.
The Custom ROMs are generally smaller in size and faster that the stock HTC one. You can also install different kernels allowing you to increase the CPU speed, e.g. 1.2GHz to 1.7GHz in some cases.
Another benefit is that you can use Titanium to backup and recover components of the ROM, data and apps. Another benefit is the ability to use nandroid ackup/recovery. Nandroid is a complete phone backup whereas Titanium is at a more granular level.
Before you do any of the above, do the following:
Go to Settings>About phone>Software information and make a note of the 'Software version' - this is the MOST important thing you need to make a note of.
Once you have that number, post back here so we can advise if an RUU is available to you for warranty purposes
Custom ROMs - better than stock

As abhishek89 has succeeded installing a custom ROM I hope he doesn't mind me asking a few questions in his tread.
I'm a beginner when it comes to custom ROM's and everything that has something to do with it. But I am interested in trying it out, just afraid of bricking my device .
So I hope you don't mind offering me some information EddyOS as i've seen your advice around the forum is always helpful!
I've looked up a few numbers and was wondering if I could proceed doing some things,
Android version: 2.3.4
HTC Sense version: 3.0
Softwarenumber: 1.50.206.1
I hope you don't mind! and if you need any more information regarding my device please ask!
Thanks,

I used an app called Cid Getter and it says that my CID is [CID is: ]: [O2___001]
I bought my phone in The Netherlands tho, so I don't know how the O2 got there, but I guess it's not a big deal ?
I've read trough most of the information about S-Off, Unlocking, Permanent Root, Clockwork etc. And I was just wondering if you could give me a ''go'' on starting all that stuff ? Sorry for asking that so many times!
So looking at my CID and Software information I can start S-Off and continue trough the rest of the tutorial ?
Android version: 2.3.4
HTC Sense version: 3.0

I have rooted two Sensations, the first via Revolutionary.io (only works up to HBOOT 1.18.0000) and the Juopunutbear on a replacement (under warranty, screen just stopped working one day nada to do with S-OFF).
The Juopunutbear method works just a bit frustrating on getting the timing right with the paper clip. Read up on it, it really does work and seems to work well.
I would thoroughly recommend getting S-OFF onto your phone, makes life sooooo much easier.

[Q] HELP!! How to root my desire s??

Hello everyone,
Okay, so i've installed the official ICS for my desire s and now i want to root it.. I mostly found threads which says rooting to gingerbread and ics and so on, and i am not sure whether it also appplies to me since i already have the official one?
And also, i do not know a single thing about rooting, but i've done a lot of research here and there to know a few basic things, but i am still unsure about it though..
Sooo, if I want to root my phone but still maintain the official ics, is that possible or does it defeat the whole purpose of rooting? and, what about those flashing the roms thing?
And, after rooting, will my current data in the phone still be there, e.g. my games progress and high score and so on, and all my contacts etc..
If anyone knows how to help me, I will be soooo thankful if u could just list out the steps which i can follow to root my phone?
Oh, and I've checked my HBOTT and Radio version if that helps.
HBOOT : 2.02.002
Radio : 3831.19.00.110
Thanks in advance!! Really desperate here.
Why do you want to root your phone?

Wrong reason dude. XDA does not condone piracy of any sort and if the only reason for you to root your phone is to play pirated games then you would be better leaving now.
