Two solutions:
1) Don't hold the phone in landscape as problem is much worse when held like this..
2) Achieve S-OFF and install a custom ROM which should have a software fix.
If you need to know what S-OFF then you probably are S-ON. To see how to get S-OFF then use search within forum and google.
Look at other posts before creating a new thread......http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1036357

i did a research on s-off but could'nt find any topic to show how to s-off the HTC Desire S.
Any resolution for that?

There are two routes....
1) XTC Clip
this route invalidates your warranty...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076937&highlight=xtc
2) Software only method.....Although not released yet.....for our Device

No idea, I'm afraid. I'd also recommend that you don't ask that question in the thread as it will simply annoy the developers who are working on the solution as fast as they can.
It has been shown to work on the Desire S already, but isn't yet released. It's released for other devices which shows that its not vapour ware and is worth waiting for.
and yes I'd suggest waiting a fortnight to a month at least....before contemplating XTC

Google clock work mod there are some good guides available
You shouldn't be in such a hurry, as you're weeks to wait until you're soff and therefore loads of time to research and read, this forum is a great place to start

[Q] Rooting the Desire S

Ok first all i would like to say, i'm a new member, so don't get frustrtated if i ask questions which might sound like a pretty simple thing for experienced users, because you must remember when you first started it was difficult for you as well.
Basically i need to know if it is possible to 'root' the Desire S - Yes i am new to 'rooting' and everything, but i am getting myself familar with the terminology so hopefully will know a lot more soon. The reason i ask this is because, even on other sites, i can only find rooting guides for the original Desire but not the Desire S. I do understand this could be because this is a new phone, but would just like someone here to confirm that.
Also, if i do manage to 'root' the Desire S, would anyone recommend a ROM to put on it, and lead me to a guide which will help me in completing that task. Please note, from what i know, it would be good if it is a stable mod as i would like all features like wi-fi to still work. Thanks for your time, hope to hear from someone soon.
Kind Regards: Droidzz
seriously, even if you are new
use the search function
the half desire s forum is already full of "can i root" "how to root" "root" "rooooot?" threads ....
Before worrying about rooting you need to make sure that your device is S-OFF or S-ON. Search XDA to get instructions on how to do that.
IF you are very lucky and your device is S-OFF you'll can gain root access using either Gingerbreak or SuperOneClick root methods. (Again search XDA)
If you're like most people and stuck with a S-ON device you'll need to use an XTC Clip or wait for AlphaRev to S-OFF your device.
As the last guy said - read around on XDA. Plenty of people have asked the same questions before....
Hope that helps...
Thanks, for that buddy - Yes i have already searched the forum, and the internet, so i'm aware on how to 'root' the phone using the superoneclick method, however don't understand what's all this about the S-ON S-OFF anyone care to elaborate?

A Big Thanks and Sorry for beeing an annoying Noob with no time to search to much (The negative part of working too much is lack of time )
Even a temp root would be fine....
I searched a bit and saw root for Evo 3d And 4G! But in here in Sweden its Nither 4G or 3D! Just a Regular Sensation 3G!
with a little search, you find

Uh... First of all, Sensation = Sensation 4G. No other difference than branding. Second, you can get temp root on newest update because HTC didn't patch the exploit. Anything else?

s-off and radio off etc all those are needed to use custom roms and recoveries and permanent root... thats what i know well if im wrong please correct me...
1) This is NOT a development related thread. It should be in the Q&A section
2) Search, search and search
Time it took to post this thread and await the responses would have been much better spent searching, which in fact is about 2 posts down in this case...
Sensation's bootloader is locked ( s-on ) so there is'nt a way (yet) to s-off the device. We only have perm root for now that goes away when you reboot the phone ( so u have to repeat the method after every reboot ). The best and easiest way to do it is here: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1161283 . I know you are a noob and all but it would be better if did a little search before you started the thread ( the perm root method is very easy to find ). If you want to ask something the q&a section is where to do it. Anyway you will get it right the next time . Cheers

I DID a Search before, but i found Temp root for USA Sensation EVO 3D and 4G!
And if you read the TOpic it says
RUU EUROPE!
And Since the Sensation is 3g in Sweden And not 3D or 4G, i didnt dare testing before asking in here.
And since a Fourm is for Asking/discusting and talking so that is what i DID!
And if you read more i alsaw wrought Sorry for beeing a Noob, But i Work to much and own a company so the time is not on my side.. (So exprementing with a stoch phone and not knowing for sure if that temp root in here is working on EU phones is not so smart)

I have no more question. And if an OP can be kind enough to move this to the right section.

Well one, the Sensation EVO 3D isn't a device. It's the EVO 3D OR the Sensation. Also, if you read in this section of the forums, and check the temp-root threads, you would see how many people have EU Sensations.

[HELP THREAD] HTC Sensation | Ask any question | Noob friendly.

Hi guys. Had this idea for a while. There are a lot of people joining xda on daily basis, and there are a lot of repetitive questions being asked which fill up Development threads. Point them here.
First thing first. I strongly advise you to read THIS thread before posting ANYTHING on XDA.
Then, have a quick look at the links at the bottom of this post. You might find what you need right away.
Third. Even if you do get your question answered, please, do come back and read the links in this post to educate yourself. You'll be surprised how much time and frustration it will save you in the future.
ASK ANY QUESTION HERE,adb, drivers, superCID etc...... You will either get an answer or will get pointed in the right direction.
No abuse towards noobs or silly questions is tolerated here!

There is no way you can FAQ everything and to keep FAQ up to date is pain in the ass. Treat this thread as a chat.
Why wouldn't you SuperCID?
I put a question in the firmware/partition thread yesterday, still no answer so I'll kick off by asking it again.
I see a lot of people getting trouble with their CID when installing firmware, and the firmware package is constantly updated with new CID's, however it seems prudent to become SuperCID anyway.
Is there a reason for not wanting SuperCID? From my understanding it's just a "label" in the phone, so it doesn't affect signal strength / how good your radio works etc. So it seems weird to want to avoid SuperCID. Am I right?
The only reason I can think of is in case of warranty returns or so. But why are so many (with a working device) trying to install firmware with their original CID then?
I hope someone understands my question.

Yes you are right, If you want to go back to S-on sometime (which you'll only want in case of warranty returns), you'll need official firmware/hboot. However, S-on is a dangerous process, people have bricked their devices doing it.
The official firmware from that thread can be used for other purposes as well (If you're phone works better, you can switch to stock ROM/firmware and leave it S-off), but if you're not having troubles, I see no need to do that.
Also, you can make a NANDroid backup of your phone after you have rooted/S-off/CWM, so switching to Stock ROM won't be a problem.
For now, I wholeheartedly recommend Custom ROMs with the appropriate firmware.

S-on goes wrong if you do it on rooted phone only by the looks of it. Although, any of this nodding businessis potentially dangerous, all you can do is to learn as much as you can to minimise possibility of a brick.

And usually if you use an earlier RUU it will prompt you eventually for an OTA that will get up back to where you belong.

Do you mean can you replace the launcher with something that is different/more compact?
You can always try a different desktop launcher like Go Launcher or ADW but you will lose your ability to use Sense widgets. I don't know of anyone that has modified Sense Launcher to allow folders.
I don't want other launchers - sense stock is good, but I need something other for all programs menu - actually i've found AppFolders.
I just want to remap action on left button to app folder, for example. Is it possible in sense?

It is completely possible as the EVO people have done it as so:

But I don't see that option in the mod forums for us. I would even ask tommytomatoe how to do it for the Sensation.

Cyanogen updates are like Fight Club.
Rule number 1. You don't talk about Cyanogen updates.
Rule number 2. You don't talk about Cyanogen updates.
That aside.....CM9 is being worked on. That's the only update there is. It'll get here when it gets here. (And yeah...I'm drooling with anticipation too and it drives me bonkers that I have no idea when we'll get to see it But that's the way Cyanogen rolls.)

[Q] Updating my new Desire S

Hello,
First of all, thanks for this great forum, i'm new to android and being here is really helpful.
I've read some of the guides posted, still i'd like to have some tips and infos.
I'm from Italy and my Desire S is still working on Gingerbread (!). I would like to update the firmware, if not to Jelly Bean (since the custom one is still beta, but advise me here), at least to ICS, but i don't know the routine to follow (ROOT, then Flash one of the custom ROMS? Being in S-Off mode is needed i guess). Another thing i don't get is flashing radios..
Help would be really appreciated, THANKS.
There is nothing to tell you that you can't find by reading the stickies and understanding what to do.

If you haven't messed with your phone, i.e. rooted it, flashed any fancy thirty party rom, etc, and the phone is running official HTC ROM and in the exact same state as you bought it, I'd suggest OTA and upgrade to official ICS since you are new to android. Go to setting - about phone then update from there.
If you'd like to try other ROMs then there's plenty guide in this forum already.
Imo official 4.0.4 is a bad idea.
1) It has bugs
2) hboot 2.02 cannot be downgraded without htcdev

My Desire S is new and "untouched". For what i had got, the official htc release is to be installed manually and has some issues, so I had thought a custom and more recent ROM would have been better.

Then use revolutionary (S-OFF) not unlock via htcdev.com, 4ext recovery and you are good to go
If you are on Sense 3 you will have to downgrade in order to use Revolutionary.io
And of course I concider the ROM in my signature as the best to date

If you are going custom better not use OTA
Revolutionary will install custom recovery so the next thing will be a backup of your stock ROM and installing the Rom.zip from the sdcard via the recovery. No rooting, because all custom ROMs are pre-rooted.
My ROM is ICS, there is no complete stable JB yet but once you have s-off you can try them all within minutes. And do not forget to sync/backup your data (contacts, etc) to Google or with some app from the Play Store. And read some guides before starting anything. I am just giving you directions not a tutorial

So why do you "root"? Just to unlock the phone without touching the FW?
Going custom i guess it's the only way, because htc is not going to update anymore, so better learn how to.
Anyway THANKS A LOT, it's more clear now

Yes you can root your current software (the stock one) if you need just root for an app or something specific without changing the software.
But going custom means to run Android and Sense version which you will never have officially. And they all come pre-rooted

They have different versions, because they are ported from different devices and there are difference between them. Not only visual but also performance.
More info about each ROM you will find in the first post of its thread.

The best app for applications and data backup is titanium backup. It also allows you to make a flashable update zip you can flash after installing a new rom

Ok, and for saving an image of my stock ROM, just in case i need to go back?
Nandroid backup is a part of the recovery and not an app.
Start reading instead of asking, please. The procedure is covered a million times in a million places.
To the answering guys, (almost) off-topic:
I have a riddle for you, or actually, a somewhat sad observation to share and see your opinions. Since this thread is one of the examples for what I'm going to talk about, and it's useless anyway, I won't feel any remorse diverting it.
I've seen several threads during the last couple of weeks where a random noob got the best out of one of the knowledgeable members of the community - in this and other forums - and they helped him instead of sending him to read stuff that he was supposed to be reading to know the answer.
In absolutely all of those threads, noob questions continued and deteriorated to the most basic ones. There wasn't even one thread where the noob wouldn't continue with flood of basic FAQ-sort of questions.
I've wrote in a couple of them more or less what I wrote here - an unpleasant message to stop the flood of baby questions.
All of the noobs were offended.
All of the noobs actually searched and found their answer after that message, and stopped the flood (with a message that here, they were so great they actually found everything themselves).
It's kinda sad, don't you think? Quite a few times bad treatment seems the most efficient way to achieve the best results... Guess there's no miraculous other way I'm missing, or maybe there is?
(P.S. I'm also moderating a local motorcyclists forum, and keeping the same harsh line in technical sub-forum. Works 100% for >5 years already. But sometimes it gets you wondering about human nature...)

[Q] Easiest way to get JB on HOX

Sorry that I am a noob, but I have been reading threads for a couple hours and haven't found a source that will answer my question.
What is the easiest way to get JB on my HOX?
I have ran into some that seem easy but only to find that I need a CID of HTC_xxx where mine is CWS_001. After a post directing me to this forum I have continued to try to find something to help me get JB and no luck. If there is a post that describes this please reply with it, or if anyone would be kind enough to post directions on how to do this that would be greatly appreciated.
Again, sorry that I am a noob at this, first Android phone, switched from iOS after Apple's disappointing "new phone", aka iPhone 4s with an extra row of icons.
Thanks!

First, you can use this tool to easily root your phone, (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1952426), then flash any JB ROM you like and just follow the instructions.

You have to change your CID from the AT&T default before you can unlock anyway. Once you do that, it doesn't matter anymore.

The CID will be changed to 1111111 before you can unlock your phone and then root, so don't worry about that. Happy flashing!

Ok...all these noobs getting the phone for free are now pissing me off completely. If you want to overcome being a noob, you have to put in time to read and search. DO NOT DO ANYTHING BEFORE FEELING COMFORTABLE WITH THE INFORMATION AT HAND
Being a noob means you should have at least watched the noob video when signing up. If you did not you broke the first rule of XDA and you need to watch it. If you did watch it(which I suspect you did not) you would know to search and read before posting. The community is here to answer questions we all have, but not questions that have been answered over and over again. Nor to spoon feed you.
oh ****...i know whats going to happen after he gets it rooted.......Don't you?? i see a brick coming up from attempting to flash the EVO OTA.
zac507, there is no official jb sense for our phone. someone should of stated that in the first reply shame on ALL of you. if you read his OP you would see he already tried flashing the endeavoru jb rom which is why he got the CID error.

Here are GREAT guides for noobs basically from start to finish here. When I was first starting I made a Q&A thread ONLY after reading enough to where I was confused and not confident in going forward without consulting others.....The key here is that you need to read and understand what you are doing first before you ask for help otherwise what good is the help?
Anyways, good luck reading and hopefully everything goes well

Thank you to everyone (except Chef). I will continue to read and do research before rooting or flashing my phone.
Chef, I have read through the forums quite a lot, asked others who have flashed other Android devices and watched many video tutorials on the subject. But before doing anything I wanted to ask a specific question that I did not see in the forums to get a clear and concise answer. Since I PAID for my phone, I do not want to brick it, hence my thread. I suggest you pull your over-inflated tech ego out of your swollen rear and learn to read. I said I was a noob at this. Noobs have questions. People on forums answer questions to help them. You, on the other hand, just act like a prick and contribute nothing to the thread. Thanks for absolutely no helpful information, please stop posting on any forum if this is how you do it.
Again, thank you to everyone else who replied. You were very helpful!

Where do I begin to correct this post?
First, let's start with the fact that you asked "what is the easiest way to get JB on HOX?" Well assuming you read, and searched and etc. you wouldn't need to ask that question considering you would have had the answer already because you in fact read and you would know that you can flash countless JB roms if bootloader unlocked and rooted.
My over inflated tech ego must have got in the way though. Even though you asked a question which is so similar to all the other JB related questions asked on this forum.
Obviously you need to continue to read(skimming and reading are different) considering the fact that you try to run an international RUU on your phone...
I was looking out for your best interest, if you want to take it to a personal level and call me a prick so be it, but I sure hope I help ingrained the fact that you need to read more before tinkering.
I think my rear is swollen I should go lay down
Zac, if you have any trouble or need help I for one would be willing to help, sent you a pm so we don't offend anyone else in here.

awesome devs and kernel over there too
my question is
isnt the current stock from HOX cool enough?

Where the heck is "over there"? I assume some other device.
If somebody with 400+ posts on here doesn't get the purpose of custom ROMs, what the heck have you been doing here all this time?
