I used to use it on my Vega.
I changed it for a Xoom, but cannot use it on it. The wheel just spins on and on..
Edit: Do I need to be rooted to use it?

USB Tether GUI for Stock Firmware (Non-Rooted)

Hello all. I have an early Christmas present for all the Stock firmware users.
I have created a usb tethering application that should work for all Android devices regardless of root access. The code is and will always be GPL. I used the azilink android app written by aziwoqpd--> http://forum.xda-develoers.com/showthread.php?t=481162
I have to give him lots of credit, because without his app this would not work.
This has been tested on the G1 and the Motorolla Droid. It should work on the Hero, MyTouch(Confirmed working), etc... The GUI should install and work on all versions (x86, x86_64) of Windows starting with XP.
The GUI that I have written controls the adb port forwarding and openvpn connection while showing status. Please test this application and let me know how it goes.

has anyone tried this
So your telling me this is "wifi tether" for non rooted users?

Nope. This is USB Tether for non rooted users
Link is down for azilink, use this link instead for more information:
http://code.google.com/p/azilink/
Confirmed working on Windows 7, and doesn't require root.
Edit: The zip in original post contains the GUI, the apk, and open vpn. Start the apk, then click "connect" on the azilink-gui. Make sure "USB debugging" is enabled in Settings on your phone.
Thanks a lot.

Wifi tether and USB tether are two totally different methods of tethering.
Wifi tether doesn't utilize the usb cable to tether.

USB Tether requires the device to be connected to the Computer via USB.
Wifi tether allows users to wirelessly connect to your device via their Computer.

ADB is included in the azilink-gui installer. The only thing you will need to do manually is install the driver which is included in the install directory.

Download ADB from here:
http://azilink.googlecode.com/files/adb.zip
I'm not sure if ADB is built into the azilink-gui, so it's safe to just install it on your girlfriend's PC.

[RESOLVED] Charge root problem - adb drivers

Edit: Kept messing around until my Charge finally mounted itself again as a CD drive; then I opened the "drive" and quickly grabbed the USB driver package, which I installed from the desktop. Now my Charge is recognized and I was able to root using adb with no problem.
The driver package is an 8.1MB .exe file; PM me if you need it emailed to you.
Problem:
I'm trying to root my Charge and can't get adb to see the device. I have Samsung drivers installed and my Fascinate is seen just fine. Not only can I not access the Charge via adb, I can't even connect to USB storage to see the Micro-SD card on it.
Any help much appreciated!
Edit: Thanks to a post by imnuts on another forum, I learned that the Charge has its own drivers which can be installed if it is first connected with USB debugging turned OFF. It mounts as a virtual CD drive, from which the drivers can be installed. This at least allows me to open the SD card on the device. However, when I turn USB debugging back on, my computer STILL can't find the drivers and isn't happy with any directory I point it to.

Hi - Would really appreciate your help here. Thanks for the tip on turning debugging off to get to the phone so I could install the USB drivers. Problem now is that ADB just refuses to connect to it. It shows up asa disk drive in Devices, but when I do a kill-server then start-server then adb devices, it doesn't list any devices, and an adb shell just says device not found.
Do I need to reboot Windows, or the phone? Seems unlikely. I can open a window to the phone, but can't get access to install the Gingerbreak and su files I need to root it. Going crazy!
Thanks,
Eric
Try rebooting both. Couldn't hurt.
Oh yeah, and if you haven't make sure the phone is back in debug mode.

Well, I'll be a monkey's brother in law. I rebooted both, checked debig mode - and it wasn't on, to my surprise. I've turned it on and off a bunch of times, so...
Anyway, I was able to finally get adb working!!! Yaaaayyy! But now I'm trying to root it, and Superuser doesn't show as an app, and Root Explorer says the f-er isn't rooted. And the Gingersnap Root Utility I've been trying to use, says it's all good to go, but its not.
Gonna try a different method, but if anyone has any ideas, I'm open.
Thanks!!!!
Use gingerbreak.
You gotta download superuser from the market

If I could flash anything I'd be rooted already, wouldn't I? How do I flash? ROM Manager needs root. Vicious circle.
I've heard that its not possible to root the Charge using current methods since the f-ing update the other day.

Dude - THANK YOU!!!! I could not get those drivers to install!!!
Please - Stickie!!!
If you want the drivers and don't trust the sources posted anywhere (we're not trustworth ?) you can get them from the phone itself. They are located in the file /system/etc/autorun.iso and you can extract them from it.

Typed it in and got nothing. Using the android dialler when I pressed the last * the dialer cleared and did nothing.
Just installed the SDK so I could use (hopefully) ADB. When trying to install the Google driver rev4 windows says that rev 4 is no better than the one currently installed.
Also when I connect to the PC it says that the USB device is not recognised either.
I reckon my next thing to try flashing a new Rom via ROM manager.
well that didnt work in fact it has got considerably worse. I used ROM manager to download and install a new rom but didnt install the Gapps how daft do I feel now cos all I got is version of Blandroid running with no Android Market access to download ROM Manager.
I can access my WiFi network so I thought I would simply visit XDA via the mobile browser and download a fresh version of CM7 and then re-flash via ClockworkMod . However all I get is download fail error. I guess it doesn't know where to save the file.
So to recapp I have the following
a Nexus S (running Blandroid ROM)
a Win XP laptop that does not recognise my Nexus S (therefore cant install the Google driver to use ADB)
The Nexus S recovery is ClockworkMod and accessible.
I cannot accept that it is bricked (not just yet anyway)
I have another Laptop with Ubuntu installed. Will this help me in anyway to find a fix. I am not that experienced in Linux unfortunately.
1
i have the same problem. only thing you can try is.
pull out battery. let something metal touch the usb conecter .conecting the metal to a unload source(for static electricity.)
wait couple of hours, and try again.
if that didnt work.
2
open your nexus.
unplug all cables and screws from the main board.
again touch the usb conecter with something metal that has a ground source.
and try again.
the last step worked for me the 1st time pluging it in after i did that.
after that. usb didnt work again.
it probably has to do something with the usb phone charger and static electricity.
but i havent tested it.
will give that a try when I have a bit more time.
In the meantime I have been setting up ADB on my other laptop running Ubuntu 11.04. But unfortunately the Nexus S didnt register on the OS either. I thought you didnt need additional drivers for Linux only windows! I am really puzzled now as I thought the Linux option would have allowed me to flash a different ROM other than Blandroid (which isnt bad its just I dont have the Gapps installed)

you still have wifi/3G and CWM or bloothoot?
download the Gapps zip. put it on dropbox or any hosting site.download it trough your mobile browser and flash it trug CWM.
or use blutethoot to download it.
might be a short fix.until you get USB to work.
(this is how i do it cuz my usb doesnt work.)
I did try that but for some reason after stating that the download had started - Download Unsuccessful was displayed in the notification area. As useual I open a door only to find a brick wall on the other side.
In the meantime I am back with my HTC Hero.
Thanks for helping anyway!

Same PC with dual boot? Yeah, try another cord and a another PC. The fact that you plugged it in and it's recognized in some way in the tray says something is fubar. I just don't know if it is the phone though. Best of luck.
Nah, different laptop and different cable. Hope that it charges OK. Gonna have to get a WiFi file transfer app working to move files to and from.
glad to help out :3
there are allot of people that have this USB isue and its HW NS related. nothing we actually can do about it.plus it also happens after changing kernels and roms(i supose) overclocking might be 1 of the reasons thus the voltages not being original.
btw, sorry for my half assed english x3

My computer *did* connect at one point though... couldn't mount USB storage (wasn't prompted) but it did ask for a driver, and currently has a Samsug USB one installed. It won't accept the SDK driver (not 64-bit capable? Or NS4G? Idk...)

Reverse usb tethering(sharing internet connection on ur pc to i9003) beta 3

I found this helpful information to share with you
This guide will only work if you have rooted your device and with a Windows PC. We will not be liable for any damages arising from your use of this guide. Use the presented information at your own risk.
Remember that the tool is still beta software, so expect a lot of kinks and bugs. You can surf using Google Chrome, Firefox, Opera, or Dolphin Browser,GOOGLE PLAY MARKET although Google Chrome complains of not having an Internet connection even though it works. Ping and low-level ICMP packets don’t seem to work either.
Requirements
A rooted Android phone
Desktop or laptop computer running Windows
Working broadband Internet connection on the desktop or laptop
Android Software Development Kit (SDK) installed on the desktop or laptop (optional but recommended)
Instructions
1) Download the reverse tethering tools from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=829285&d=1324833033 and save the file to your computer. The ZIP file contains AndroidTool.exe (Android USB Tunnel tool for your Windows machine), ADB, and the Android APK (Beta Android USB Tunnel tool for your Android phone).
2) Extract the ZIP file to a folder on your computer.
Enable USB debugging on your phone by going to Settings > Applications > Development > USB Debugging.
3) Go to the folder where you extracted the ZIP file’s contents.
Run AndroidTool.exe.
Connect your phone to your PC using a USB cable.
In the Android USB Tunnel window, click on the Refresh Devices button.
From the list on the right of the detected devices, select a Domain Name Server (DNS) to use.
4) Click the Show Android Interface button. This will install the app and other needed binaries to your phone.
If the Superuser app on your phone asks whether to allow “USB Tunnel,” choose to allow the app. If the process crashes after receiving Superuser rights, close the Android USB Tunnel Windows application and repeat the procedure from the start.
5) Click on the Connect button on the Android USB Tunnel window on your computer.
6) Again, if the Superuser app on your phone asks, choose to allow “USB Tunnel.”
Congratulations! You have successfully reverse-tethered your Android phone to your PC.
Damn man this is cool.
Yeah ... it's cool ... but why I can't download files? I fail download file apk from market and other site. Bug?

I also have this tablet(purchased on black Friday from Walmart like everyone else) and mine doesn't seem to have that option anywhere. in fact, compared to the previous two android products I have, this device seems to lack ALOT of available functions. though I am capable of navigating a recovery menu at boot. but that doesn't do me any good for using pdanet. that seems to be my biggest road block. pdanet wont install because the onl;y way I can allow my device to connect to my pc with adp is using the adp updater in the recovery boot menu.

It is a hidden option that needs to be enabled. Follow this guide: www ninjaromeo com / enable-usb-debugging-developer-options-jelly-bean/
I just enabled this option on my Walmart BF 7" RCA RCT6378W2 tablet.
Sorry I had to mangle the link because XDA wont let me link external sources yet.
Glad I could help a few. Now, someone get on a functional recovery ;p
I have poked around a little at the stock recovery, backing it up, etc.. But am not brave enough to try and get CWM working on it.
I was able to use th Xposed framework for a few mod's no problem. Battery mod, reboot menu, hide navbar, etc.. But Xposed can only do so much.
Edit: I heard on reddit this tool also works for rooting. I have not tested it (already rooted with the other method).

Getting Debugging to work.
I was not drunk when I made this post...I have the RCT6378W2 if you go to about tablet in your settings and repeatedly tap the build number...the deveolper options will appear...I fell out of my seat when i discovered this.
On a side note...if you repeatedly tap the android version...a cute picture of the android jellybean will appear. Try it.

1: Install drivers. Seeing as RCA does not provide drivers, we had to find some that work. That's where PDANET comes in. Their drivers support a very wide range of Android devices. We are not installing it to tether. We just want the drivers it provides. So download PDANET, install, let it detect your device, install the drivers, and then afterwords you can uninstall it.
2: Enable Developer Options. Settings>About tablet> Tap Build Number a bunch of times till it's enabled.
3: Enable USB Debugging. Options>Developer Options>Click On (up top)>Then checkmark USB Debugging
That should clear up some of the confusion in this thread. How you root after step 3 is up to you. Personally, I did it with Kango. Which was straight forward. Connect device, hit a button, Say yes to a couple questions, reboot, presto done.

Thanks, that sorted things out.
To make clear, and aid in any other inquiries, I managed to find an ADP connection mode, among other android update features. with the device off, hold volume up while turning the device on. it should boot to an image of an android with an open chest panel and the words, "no command". if you push volume up again it will provide you with options and instructions on how to execute. you can manual update the device with an SDK through USB ADP mode this way. I'm not sure if that makes anything simpler or generates a work around but I hope it helps with future development for this device.
Well got root now we need a recovery...
For some reason when trying to make sure I can send adb commands to my tablet, I am showing no devices connected. I check in device manager and it shows up as Android ADB interface for the tablet. These drivers were installed with the latest version of PDANet. Thoughts or how were you all able to get the drivers fully loaded and working? I have developer options already enabled and USB debugging mode is checked.
Info: RCA RCT6378W2 Tablet
Android 4.2.2
Kernal 3.0.36+
PDANet+ 4.12
Windows 7 64 Bit (I also tried it on my windows 7 32 bit computer)

You need to create "adb_usb.ini" in "Users>Username>.android".
Inside "adb_usb.ini" insert "0x2207" and save.

I had this problem too. make sure you're using the most recent version of pdanet. for whatever reason the older version just hang there and dont work right.
Installed the latest pdanet. It wont install the driver. I checked the device manager and it still shows the device without the driver. not sure what else to try..
