[Q] Mango and Skype - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have read a number of articles today mentioning Skype as a feature in the upcoming Mango update. Only problem is I am running Mango and as you all know there is no Skype integration. Has anyone heard anything more detailed about Microsoft's plans for Skype integration?

For what I have read Mango will be able to support a Skype app that will be release. The next update, which is supposedly a minor one called "Tango", will have the actual Skype integration into the WP7 OS.

Really ? I missed that, I just read that Mango supports front facing cameras and the API for Skype, but I didn't see that Tango will have Skype integration

Skype may either be included in the absolute final mango build or in some other update that hasn't been revealed yet. all we know are tango or Apollo, what about before or in between?

Integrated will be better...

Picture & Video Messaging On WP7??

I remember reading somewhere that its not possible to do video or picture messaging on windows phone 7 is that a carrier issue or did microsoft leave that out? will that be implemented in the future?
picture messaging works fine, its video messaging that is missing. Not sure when its gonna get added. Seems that was MS decision (though carriers could have pushed for it).

Picture messaging works fine, you can receive video messages, but you cannot send them (except that you can forward video messages that you have received).
Not on this phone
Interesting, no my htc surround on at&t does not receive video messages not to mention not being able to send them. This is my biggest beef with wp7. A good laugh at lunch would be appreciated. Dumb phones can do this. Is it too lowbrow for Ms and their metro UI? It may seem trite but the wp7 is a visual medium. Video messaging goes hand in hand with social networking and is sorely missed.
Have most WP7's always been able to receive video messages, or is that something that came with the NoDo update? I don't remember it ever working and the next day after installing the updates I received one.

There is no way a carrier pushed for the lack of video messaging in WP7, when every other smartphone OS on every other carrier does it.
Video messaging is never an issue for them because there are size limitations in MMS and most if not all phones compress (rather heavily) the video, anyways, just as they do teh photos.
It just sucks because a lot of people still have feature phones and Picture/Video MMS functionality is a must for communicating with these people.
Ask winpho support on twitter & they said they had no info when vid msgs were coming...Pisses me off.....

MMS messages can be sent & received but they just show a static image & don't play. This has been the case since before NoDo.

[Q] best video chat app?

I was wondering since Skype hasn't hit Android for video chat, what else can I use besides Tango..
Has anyone tried Gmail video chat? Does it work phone to computer or phone to phone?
thanks
Ryan
Look up ooVoo. It's relatively new so still has kinks to work out.
Gmail video chat is only computer to computer for now.
If you have yahoo, the Android client does video chat I believe, but only yahoo-to-yahoo.
There's no real big-scale solution for video chat on android right now. Hopefully in the near future. Don't hold your breath for Skype though, they don't seem to have any interest in releasing a general Android client.

How did you get oovoo to work on your Nexus? I thought it was for 2.2 only.

When you update to the Tango release, you will be able to send video messages. It's supposed to be out beginning of June. You will need to update to 7.5 first.
Sorry about posting in the other section, i didnt know where to do so.
@jessenic thanks i was unaware the 7 pro would get tango.
All Windows Phones will get the Tango update. Apllo (WP8) too, most likely.
I'm using Tango on my Trophy and it is able to send video messaging but one thing I don't get is why stop at video; how about audio, pdfs and other documents? Sometimes I wonder about what MS is thinking.

you are right. we have only a few options to send via sms/mms, what symbian device can for years now. its good that we can send in the future videos, and we also can voice recordings (audio) is that what you mean with audio? or do you think of *.mp3

Tango Update!

I just got my HTC HD7 Tango update in two installments and I still don't see the phone to sim contacts feature. I initially thought the Tango update will come in three installments as someone posted here some time ago but I got two....is there a problem? and can it be the reason why I don't see the phone to sim contact transfer feature?
Anyway my build number after install is (8773).
Which build is the (8779)?
